1  Non-Gaming / Hardware / Software Hell / Re: Looking for quality headset to work with both PS4 AND Xbox One on: January 23, 2014, 12:22:23 AM
Wow, so the Astro A50's are $299 on the Astro website, yet I can get the exact same headset from Gamestop for $224.99?
2  Non-Gaming / Hardware / Software Hell / Re: Looking for quality headset to work with both PS4 AND Xbox One on: January 22, 2014, 03:56:34 PM
Thanks Turtle!  I'm checking out the Astro website now.  Since this is the first time that I'm an early adopter in a new console generation I figured some really good headsets would be a great investment.  When you live in apartments and have neighbours, you can't really have the big surround sound system.  Great headsets are the next best thing.
3  Non-Gaming / Hardware / Software Hell / Looking for quality headset to work with both PS4 AND Xbox One on: January 22, 2014, 05:46:05 AM
Title says it all.  I have both  a PS4 and Xbox one and only want to spend money on one headset.  I'm looking for both audio and mic quality and I'm willing to spend for it.  Is there something out there that does or will work with both?
4  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: Next gen purchase poll on: June 13, 2013, 06:27:46 AM
I'm a huge gamer and I have the excess income so I will be getting both.  The 360 will be for ever day use with cable tv, but I have a feeling I will use the PS4 more for games, particularly because I like their first party exclusives more.

I'm willing to give them one more shot for DAIII in hopes it can be what DAO was for me, which is the best rpg in a decade.  It sounds like they are taking the criticisms of DAII to heart.  I also thin CD projeckt does a great job in storytelling.  can't wait for Witcher 3 and especially Cyberpunk 2077.
6  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: New Xbox: Always online, no second-hand games, 50GB Blu-ray and new kinect(EDGE) on: April 10, 2013, 06:24:52 AM
"Always On" or Always Connected is a deal breaker for me.  Sure internet is reliable, but it's still not as reliable as say the power in my house.  It will randomly drop once or twice a month.  plus this also means we would be dependent on a connection back to MS servers, and I would be shocked if they have not learned a lesson from the mistakes of Diablo III and SimCity.  If these rumors turn out to be true, then Sony will surely win this generation.  MS may have missed the boat on just how important this is to there consumer.
7  Gaming / Portable Gaming & Apps / Re: Holiday deal for a 3DS XL or Vita? on: December 05, 2012, 09:20:06 PM
Just saw that pricing on the 3DS XL.  May have to jump though I was starting to lean toward the Vita, since I know I will be getting a WiiU at some point and I can get my Zelda/Monster Hunter fix that way.
8  Gaming / Portable Gaming & Apps / Re: Holiday deal for a 3DS XL or Vita? on: December 04, 2012, 09:38:29 PM
Looking back, I am so upset I missed the PS Vita deal on Amazon.  I still don't truly know which system I want to buy yet.  Both have certain games coming out that i would love to have on a portable system. Final fantasy X HD on Vita and two Monster Hunter games on 3DS along with Dragon Quest VII.
9  Gaming / Portable Gaming & Apps / Holiday deal for a 3DS XL or Vita? on: December 04, 2012, 07:18:07 AM
With my new job which will have me doing quite a bit of travelling, I have decided to buy a portable gaming system.  unfortunately, i have now missed the black friday deals.  Is it normal to at least have a couple sales on hardware like this before Christmas?  I would hate to buy one now and then see some awesome deal a week later. Right now I see the $199 3DS XL bundle with Mario Kart 7, amd some $249 game tie in bundles for the Vita.  I'm mostly an RPG and strategy player so none of these games is a big seller for me.

Does anyone expect another great deal before the holiday is over?

I know it's cliché to say, but it's true.  After Bioware was purchased by EA, their overall quality went to crap.  DA3, Strar Wars MMO, Mass Effect (Wasn't bad but could have been so much better. And the ending, oy vey!).  I'm truly hoping for a return to what was so great about DA Orgins, but I'm not pre ordering.  Bioware has lost that ability with me.

I really don't think it was KOA that doomed them.  It was having such a HUGE staff working simultaneously on Project Copernicus.  Instead of a 300 employee team, they should have stayed in the 80's and worked on one game at a time, built a following and some success and THEN went for the big MMO.  AAA MMO's are very costly.  BIG mistake trying to start off the company making one.

38 Studios was founded to make the MMO, they only bought Big Huge Games a couple years ago to re-work their action RPG into a game in the same universe.

Then they had flawed logic from the get go.  They burned through all of that taxpayer money and all we saw were a couple screenshots and some flyover video.

I'm not finished yet, but I must say this game is easily in my top 5 rpg's of all time, probably top 3 and it's just splitting hairs from there.  The opening sequences and play in chapter 2 on king Heslet's (sp?) side was awesome!

Does anyone else want to play in this game world as a Sorcerer?  They do some amazing stuff...

This game is kicking my butt.  Yeah, yeah I know, RTFM...I guess I have gotten spoiled by games actually offering a tutorial to teach you key concepts to where the manual is not needed.   I had the same issue with the tutorials disappearing before I could read them.  Took me until Flotsam to figure out how the heck to use a potion.

I died probably 15-20 times when I had to battle 6 or so guys trying to open the gate to the temple/monastery.  I quit 3 or 4 times out of frustration.  Finally dropped it down to easy.

I guess I am not cut out for action style games.  The difficulty for me is detracting from being able to enjoy the story.

The fights can be pretty tough.  One thing that really helped me out was the use of Quen.  being able to get hit twice for no damage every 30 seconds helps a lot.  Also using Quen in conjunction with yarden gives me a little breathing room when fighting multiple enemies.

Just wanted to add that I am loving this game.  It's what Dragon Age 2 should have been.

So I went and pre ordered over steam.  When on the 17th will i actually be able to play the game.  Is there a normal time when the games are availanble to be played upon release?

Hark, if you have someone who is in the beta already that trust you, they can just give you their login info and you can patch up.  Then just sign in with your info once you get your beta invite.

20  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: New Last Remnant details and screens on: November 25, 2008, 10:50:58 PM
The battle system might be an acquired taste, but if you like it, then the game is worth it.  Plus like I said earlier installing to the hard drive is a must or the stutters and slowness will absolutely ruin the experience.
21  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: New Last Remnant details and screens on: November 25, 2008, 09:45:05 PM
The story after finishing disk one is more in the realm of Final Fantasy XII in that it's about a scarce, valuable resource (remnants) political intrigue and backstabbing.  The battle system is almost becoming like a graphical (and deeper) version of chess.  With unions having their pluses and minuses depending on the party members you place in them and the formations you give them.  Also where you are on the board in relation to your enemies becomes more important as the game moves along.  I'm really surprised at the depth of the battle system that's there, I'm constantly switching out members and formations to try and get the most out of a union.
22  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: New Last Remnant details and screens on: November 25, 2008, 03:15:04 PM
Just finished disk one last night and I must say the story has definitely picked up.  The end battles to disk one were very intense and definitely enjoyable.  I LOVE rpg's but find that I rarely finish them.  I find that I have actually come to like the battle system so much that I'll definitely be finishing this one.  It takes about 10 hours to really get a feel for how deep it is, but once you do, there is a TON of strategy there.
23  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: New Last Remnant details and screens on: November 23, 2008, 09:39:56 PM
Well my initial impressions have not changed with another 6 hours in the game.  It's all about the gameplay.  The graphics are good, but not earth shattering, and the story is your standard stuff so far.  What makes this worth purchasing is the depth of the gameplay, from having unions (multiple parties), to putting them in formations, to recruiting or finding leaders to join your party.  The battle itself has a fair amount of strategy to it and seems like it can get pretty epic.  I'll keep you guys posted, the deeper I get into the game.
24  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: New Last Remnant details and screens on: November 22, 2008, 10:23:53 PM
Well I'm about 4 hours into the game and I like the combat system so far, it different and you can tell i can get pretty deep.  On the framerate side, it is a MUST that you install the game to your hard drive.  I first tried playing without doing so and it was a technical nightmare, just choppy as hell.  I immediately went back and installed the game and it actually runs pretty smooth now.  I haven't come to a huge battle yet so maybe there will be slowdown there, but after the install the game runs just fine so far.
25  Gaming / Multiplayer Madness (MMO or otherwise) / Re: Star Wars: The Old Republic announced on: October 22, 2008, 07:03:51 PM
This already has my interest for the pure fact that it's Bioware.  And the fact that they want to make story important is HUGE for me.  The thing i love most about MMO's is unraveling the lore and I think Bioware is going to have tons of starwars lore to be uncovered.  To bad it's gonna be a year plus before this hits.  I'll have to occupy my time with Fallout 3, Warhammer, a next gen God of War and plenty of other games not even known about yet.
26  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: In which I pimp the new Fallout 3 site on: October 09, 2008, 06:27:55 AM
So I'm buying NBA 2K9 tomorrow and putting a preorder on Fallout 3, I just don't know which version 360, PS3 or PC.  360 has early DLC, PS3 is reliable and PC "might" look and play better.  You guys think it will look and play better on my pc?  (specs below)

 Core 2 1.86
 2GB RAM
 GeForce 880 GTS

I'm thinking I should go PC, but the 360 and PS3 provide a little more convenience.

Well i went on a Vesperia binge this weekend and I'm now 30 hours deep and still really enjoying the game.  This is my first tales game and I'm really surprised at how grown up this game is.  Yes the charecters are quiry, enduring and a bit on the cute side, but a lot of the themes are pretty adult.  Wish I had one extra day off to play.

OK, after seeing reviews, youtube videos and some impressions, I'm in.  Think I'll be off to eb after work to pick this up.  Between it and the start of college football my whole weekend is now taken up.

For some reason I'm really excited about this game.  I love RPG's already, but this seems to have the little things i look for in a great RPG nowadays.  No random battles from unseen enemies, a sort of open world look (Looks almost like an mmorpg), a different/unique battle syatem, and of course the Square brand.  Day one purchase for me.

Jade Empire
Deus Ex
Kid Icarus (Maybe not a last gen game, but I want to see it anyway)
Syphon Filter
A Next Gen Mana game.

It's good to know others feel the same way I do.  I'm really enjoying my PS3 and feel good about the purchase.  one thing I do think this will do is make me a bit more of a selective buyer.  When I first got my 360 I remember buying every game I thought was halfway decent.  Today games I bought in the first 6 months would only get rented if that.  Now that I have both, I can see myself buying only highly rated games due to the fact that I will be buying the best exclusives on both.  Any games on the fringe will get a rental first.

I can see it already.

MLB 08 in March PS3
GTAIV in April 360
Too Human in May 360
MGS4 in June PS3
Ninja Gaiden 2 in June 360
Soul Caliber IV in July PS3

Then you still have Gears 2, Final Fantasy XIII, Forced Unleashed, Bionic Commando, Killzone 2, Fable2, Fallout 3, and more.  I'll be in gaming nirvana this year. nod
40  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Things I've noticed now that I have a 360 and a PS3. on: February 25, 2008, 03:20:51 AM
So I got a PS3 last week, and while I have not bought any games yet, I've been a busy bee downloading demos and videos.  After about a week there are certain things that have really come to light for me in comparing what I do and don't like about both consoles.

1. The 360 is loud as hell!  This did not bother me so much before, but after playing games on the PS3 and not hearing anything from the console, to going back to the 360 and hearing it churn, I must say the 360 is 10 times louder than the PS3.  If they make a quieter version down the road, I might have to buy it just for that.

2. The PS3 controller is too light and the 360 controller is the best console controller EVER.  I picked up the PS3 controller for the first time and thought it just felt cheap.  It didn't feel solid at all and the R2 and L2 buttons just felt wrong.  On the filp side, everything about the 360 controller feels right.  It curves perfectly in the palm of your hands while playing, the trigger buttons feel natural, and the indention on the stick buttons give it a great feel.  It also feels a LOT more sturdy.  I think it's because of the rumble technology inside that gives it more weight.  Anyway, I just think the 360 controller is perfect in every way and I pretty much felt that way from the beginning, but playing with the PS3 controller just further confirms it.

3. Xbox Live and the Live store is eons better than what the PS3 is using right now.  Hopefully this changes with the introduction of home, but for right now xbox live has it beat by a wide margin.

4. The PS3 is the first console I will truly use as a media player and not just a game machine.  Even though previous consoles could play dvd's, I never really used them that way.  hell the 360 is loud to even think about using it for anything but gaming.  it would irritate the crap out of me to hear that churning during slow parts of movies.  in games it's fine, it movies, not so much.  I've already gone out and bought some blueray dvd's and I continue to look for deals in order to add to my small collection.  The fact that the PS3 is quiet and future proof for bluray helps make the decision to use it for movies an easy one.

5.  The PS3 is more feature rich than the normal 360.  An embedded network adapter, usb support, expandable hard drive and yes blueray does mean that I'll probably get more bang for my buck out of a PS3, as long as they have some good exclusives because.....

6. I'll still buy multi platform games for my 360.  The 360 still feels like a better overall gaming machine.  While the PS3 is definitely a really good machine for gaming, the controller, xbox live (My friends list), and achievements all give the gaming experience an overall better feel on the 360.  This could change a bit with home, but nothing will change that controller (Did i mention it's the best EVER nod), as it just makes the action feel better on the 360.  in the end though the PS3 will get more use because it's become my defacto dvd/blueray player.

So there you go.  Anything you guys who have both notice between the two?
