I will say this though.  I heard the new score by Tyler Bates on Cinemagic and it is really good.  I will even say it's better than John Carpenters original Halloween score.

Tyler Bates is a talentless hack.

I'd be disappointed with the lack of exploration if there had been anything interesting to find while exploring in ME1.  I explored all the planets, and it was just a waste of time because all you ever found was minerals, pointless collectibles, or cookie-cutter side missions.  If there's nothing in interesting to find, exploration is just a chore.

That's just the point.  All of that was interesting to me.  I loved coming across the mummified remains of a long dead Saurian on some barren world.  Even though I would come across the same thing on another planet.  I loved that stuff.  It was not boring to me.  My imagination would soar.

ya kepow frown  i thought it made the world so much more real to wander into an unexplored system on the normandy, scan several planets and asteroid belts, perhaps finding signs of habitation on one or two, then sending in a dropship.  then wandering the landscape, usually encountering geth outposts, mineral deposits or some ancient historical artifact.  again, made it seem like a living, breathing REAL (and OPEN) world.  it was what made me feel like i was actually exploring the world, not just moving from one "level" to the next.

even some of the story missions were great when they included the mako.  taking it across those enormous distances and high snowy passes, then disembarking at several points when id locate survivors or a sealed hardpoint.  incorporating both large open outdoor expanses with tight base infiltrations in one seemless environ... oh man i have to stop now im getting even more bummed frown
how did i only JUST find this out???

I'm so with Doopri on this one.  I got the game here and I'm hesitating to open it.  I cannot stress how much I'm disappointed that the planetside exploration is gone.  That was the soul of the first game.  Doopri explained it beautifully.  I really am disappointed and all the excitement I had for this launch was basically sucked out of me.

Not sure what to do now.  I guess like Doopri I will wait until I hear more about this dumbed down for the masses "scanning" of planets is.

Wow.  Talk about being sucker punched in the gut.  Like Doopri, I was avoiding all info too.  Wish I had not.

Stop it!  Stop it!  STOP IT!  You are all killing me!  Stop talking about awesome mind blowing trailers and characters and whatever!  I seriously cannot believe how pumped I am for this game.  And I thought I had it bad waiting for my damn Nook to ship.

Barring unforeseen circumstances, I've decided that I'm definitely taking a sick day next Tuesday.  First time ever doing this.  There is no way in hell I can be at work knowing people are playing the game and I'm not.  The galaxy must be explored!

Oh Liara my love.  Will you still be there for me?  Will I find someone new?  I can't wait!!!

The last time I was this stoked for a game was waiting for KOTOR 2.

How in the world do some of you finish this game (or any game) so fast?  Do you guys work and/or go to school?  Do you guys just blaze straight on through?  Do you play just the one game forsaken all others until done?  Do you breathe?  Do you skip going to the bathroom?  Do you guys utilize Witch Time to slow time down while playing?  It's mind boggling to me.  I'm still in Vigrid City (Chapter 1?).  I will probably finish this up sometime around June/July.

I have never in my life finished a game in a week or less.  Heck, I have never finished a game in less than 6-months or so.  I would really like to know how you do it?

I play games really, really slow.  I want to take them all in.  I feel that ripping through a game in a week will make me miss something or not appreciate all that a game has to offer.  Plus, I never play a game twice.  Ever.  Dragon Age I will be playing all this year.  Mass Effect 2 I will be playing well into 2011.

What's the secret?

Are you trolling or are you being serious?  Cause I don't understand how you expect everyone to take a minimum of 6 months to 1 year to finish a game, especially for FPSes which on average are 6-8 hours long.

Let's do some simple math.  Take a 10-hour game...even if you only play 30 minutes a day (which is nothing even for a work day), that would be twenty days to finish.  I'm not even factoring in weekends or offdays, where you have much more time.  Now let's take your "6 month minimum" philosophy... you would be playing less than 3.5 minutes per day to finish the game!

Again, are you being serious?

IIRC, Starshifter once said he refused to make his characters in RPG's run because he felt that running around breaks the immersion of what people would actually be doing.  While I can respect that sort of dedication for role-playing, it would drive me (and 99.9999% of all gamers) absolutely batty to try and play games that way.

Proof!

KePow - I am serious.  I was just curious as to how people finish games so quickly.  Your formula would work except it doesn't mention one thing:  multiple games.  That's part of my problem.  I will sometimes play 3-4 games in an hour.  15 min of Bayonetta, a quick hockey game in 2K10, 10 mins of Batman, etc.  That's how it is every night for me.

Plus, proner and Gratch hit the nail on the head.  I do play games agonizingly slow.  Good find proner on the KoToR stuff.  I do walk my characters instead of run.  I know.  Weird.  But, that's me and it's the way I enjoy games.  For example, I'm walking Bayonetta through the streets of Vigrid and looking around at the scenery etc. because that's what I imagine she would be doing.  I've got problems.  nod

I've tried playing quick but I just can't do it.

I will see this movie because I love and grew up with the A-Team.  I'm curious.  However, I'm not too happy.  Certain shows from my childhood I don't want touched.  Battlestar Galactica was butchered (in my opinion folks so don't flame).  Now I'm concerned about A-Team.  If they ever decide to make an Emergency! movie I will go postal.  Emegency! is sacred to me.  Don't touch it Hollywood.

Back in the "amateur Olympic days", it was the same countries ad nauseum, too.  Furthermore, only 13 (which you can make a case as being just 9 with the USSA/Unified Team/Russia, Germany/West Germany, and Czechoslovakia/Czech Republic messes) countries have won a medal in men's ice hockey in the 21 Winter Olympics where ice hockey has been played.  Sort of defeats your argument, doesn't it?

As usual, you are wrong.  You cannot make a case for combining them.  They were different countries/teams.  Case closed.  And nobody can argue that olympic hockey is better now than it was in the past.  No way.  Not even you with your infinite hockey wisdom can admit that.  Sorry.  Olympic hockey sucks now.

USA
Soviet Union
Sweden
Canada
East Germany
West Germany
Norway
Finland
Austria
Italy
Japan
France
Switzerland
Czechoslovakia
Romania
Liechtenstein
Netherlands

ALL previous hockey teams.  I count 17.

The best part about the Kindle so far (and it would hold true with the Nook) is that it has encouraged and allowed me to read more. I find myself wanting to read more to lighten my backlog so I can buy more books because....well, because buying books for the Kindle is fun! And it allows me to read more because I can do it one-handed while carrying around a baby.  icon_biggrin I used to read 5-6 books at a time, and would spend hours reading. As I got older and took on more responsibility, that dwindled to 30 minutes or less a night. The Kindle has really sparked my love of reading again, and that's definitely worth the entry fee.

Yellowking hit the nail on the head.  This is what I expect too.  I love new technology.  I love to read.  Have not been reading much in recent years.  This will be a marriage made in heaven.  It will help me regain a lost passion.  It's nice to know others feel the same way.

Just ordered my Nook!  headbang  It will ship on Feb 1st.  No big deal.  I can wait.  Really excited to get this though.  I did tons of research on it and the Kindle.  I decided on the Nook because I like the virtual keyboard more than a dedicated one and I like having the ability to change out the battery myself and expand the memory with a Micro SD card.  I also like the way it looks.  Shallow I know, but true nonetheless.  Nothing wrong at all with the Kindle as well.  I got to see and try out my former wife's Kindle and it is really nice.  Would have went with it if I did not see the Nook.

You can't go wrong with either one.  After all, we just want to read right?  I can't wait to start Jordan's Wheel of Time series when I receive my Nook.  Oh, and all those early reviews slamming it are ridiculous and very shortsighted.  It will only improve with further software updates.  And one was already released.  There is nothing wrong with the hardware.  I would understand the slamming reviews if there was something really wrong with the hardware.  But there is not.  Even the Kindle had its hiccups in the beginning and has improved steadily into what is now a really amazing e-reader.

Everyone enjoy your Nook and/or Kindle.  We all win!

- no way to give orders to multiple characters at the same time on consoles. On a PC you can pause the game and give orders to your chars - you go here, you go there, you cast Fireball,  you Taunt. Once you unpause, your chars will complete their orders and then switch to their AI routines. On consoles, the moment you switch from a charcter, he forgets your order and will act according to his AI routines (which are influenced by Tactics), so you basically control one character and the rest are doing what AI thinks needs to be done. Huge difference, that affects the type of game you end up playing..

This is not true.  While holding pause you can issue an order for each character. Just press RB or LB to go to each character and give the order while paused.  Then when you un-pause the characters will carry out that one order that you gave and then immediately go back to the tactics.  I do this all the time on the Xbox version.

I'd play another Force Unleashed type of game, or a more refined Jedi Knight/Jedi Academy style of game, but ultimately I want to be able to control a character and wield a lightsaber, not watch characters wield lightsabers while I queue up mathematically determined attacks.

I don't necessarily need a continuation of the Force Unleashed storyline, but an action RPG would be my dream Star Wars game.  Sort of a Mass Effect/Force Unleashed amalgam.  I just can't get into turn-based gameplay.

We're going to work on this Pete.  You are not a lost cause yet.  You will be visited by three gaming spirits over the next three days to point out your error-like ways.  And the third spirit of gaming future will point out everything you will miss if you don't change this foolish notion of yours.  If you're good enough and open your mind they might get it all done in one night and you won't miss anything.  It's up to you.  thumbsup

I see and understand what you guys are saying about Mages and crowd control and healing.  However, I'm early in the game so I don't have all the spells and abilities.  Where the heck is this Wynn?  If she is that valuable where can I find her?  All I have is Morrigan who does not have sleep crowd control spells.  I guess I need to be more patient.

I just wish that you can move a party member to a certain spot on the battlefield while paused.  Unless I'm missing it I don't think you can.

First off, you can (at least the PC version anyway) - just click on a point of terrain and they'll move there once you unpause the game.

Second off, Morrigan is one power (or is it two) away from learning Sleep when you first get her. Check her lines closely and work towards them. They really change the battlefield.

As far as Wynn goes (just location info below):

Spoiler for Hiden:
When you first get access to the world map, head towards the Mage Tower (or more accurately, the docks outside of said tower). You'll find her within.

Keep in mind though that all she really is is a Mage specced down the healing lines. Any Mage can technically become her given enough levels and such.

Thanks.  That helps.  I usually auto level my party members (except my character).  Guess I will not do that now.  I don't think you can point to the ground in the console version and have the character move there.  I tried it and it does not work.
