41  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / [ps3] Audio from streamed sources problem on: June 29, 2013, 08:49:00 PM
Hey all,

This is an odd problem and it did not start happening until after the latest update.

Audio output ia completely fine when I play games and movies from their disk or the HD, but, the moment I try to stream a movie the audio stops working completely. It actually stops all audio output and forces me to restart my receiver and ps3. Any solutions?

43  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: EA and the Wii U on: May 18, 2013, 02:52:37 PM
I agree that Nintendo should have pulled out of the hardware market years ago, and focused on software for the next generation of consoles.  Nintendo's handheld market is very strong currently; but I can see that losing ground to smartphones in the coming years since there are far more smartphone users than Nintendo DS users.

This month hasn't been good for Nintendo news, and the only good thing right now is that Nintendo is still very much a strong company that has options. I do not believe Nintendo will go bankrupt, but they will have to change their business model if they want to survive into the next 2 generations of the gaming market.

Whelp, this just knocked Bioshock: Infinite off my GOTY winner after just 4 hours of gameplay.

I'm running it on the highest settings and I'm getting no slowdown at all.

System Specs:

Windows 8 64-bit
Intel i7 2600k cpu @3.4k (8 CPUs)
2x Nvidia GTX 580s OC'ed SLi
Intel 520 SSD - 256gb
8gb RAM

His girlfriend was unreliable, so he went out to find a stable relationship.

According to a signed -- though undated -- statement newly released by the Smoking Gun, Andrew Mendoza of Danavang, Texas, was waiting for his girlfriend to call one night and told himself that if he didn't hear from her, he would go next door and "mess with the neighbor's horse." She didn't call.

The document details the encounter in graphic detail before stating, "I was trying to make the horse have a baby. I was thinking it would have a horseman baby. I ain't going to lie, I blew a nut in the horse."

47  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: [PS3] Ni No Kuni: Wrath of the White Witch on: February 08, 2013, 04:57:12 PM
Concerning combat:

I didn't really enjoy combat in Ni No Kuni and I am not a "gotta catch'em all" kind of person so monster hunting doesn't appeal to me in the slightest.

Alignment is not important and can be ignored completely. The combat isn't so challenging that you will ever need any specific monster for a particular boss fight. The mite that you get at the beginning of the game is more than sufficient but you can replace him with whatever your heart desires since it really won't make a difference. Basically, use what monsters that you like and don't fret about "combat efficiency."

With that said, if you want to make farming for experience a breeze you should tame a "Monolith" monster and use his "Yoo-Hoo!" ability to force all of the enemies to attack him; and then have your AI buddies go all out to tear down the enemies. You will usually take only 1 hp of damage per swing/ability from most enemies that way.

Concerning the story:

I liked it to a point but I must say that the ending seemed to be rushed. I was shocked that there wasn't in any way an ending cinematic, literally you just kill the boss and it's roll credits (which features an amazing song). Everything up until about midway through the story was fantastic and then it fell apart.

I also did not like Oliver. I was hoping that he was in a coma and it was all a dream. He's a 13 year old kid running around a neighborhood and his mother just died.... Not a single thing is out of place with him living in a big ol' house by himself. Seriously? It bothers me that not even a single NPC said "I guess he'll have to live with his uncle/aunt/grandparents." That of course just added to my overall disappointment with the story.

Game play:

Meh. (I'm at work so I have to stop here for now.)

This always amazes me. It really is sad, but.. How do you not take a break after 40 hrs?!? Really. I play sometimes for many hrs, but I get up and you know piss, grab a beer or water, a snack etc! Like I said sad it is, but wow.

maybe he did, all the article said was that he didn't eat.

You can go that long without food, but usually not water. That's my understanding.
the article states  that he also died upon standing up. Im going to guess that he died of a blood clot or heart attack after the blood from his torso rushed to his legs. Although, maybe he hadnt eaten or drank anything for awhile before checking into tbe room. Again, we have no real information. Just that he collapsed after standing up.

I mean no disrespect if these events actually happened, but I have a really hard time believing them.  Even people who are high as a kite on drugs remember to eat every so often.  For someone to actually die because of playing a game for too long would require a perfect storm of events and conditions.  For it to happen on a regular basis just seems impossible.

A little research and you'd see that it happens and is very real, especially in Korea and Japan where it isn't unusual for them to play for days without getting up. It isn't just the lack of food/water that is killing them but blood clots formed in the legs from inactivity. Keep in mind that these individuals aren't exactly healthy and probably have a history of sitting in one place a lot, so they most likely have poor circulation to begin with.

Incorrect and it's why drug addicts are incredibly thin.  Also, they don't usually die from blood clots because they're not sitting in one spot for 40+ hours.

yeah, I'm loving the ranger's 10 arrow shot, especially in dungeons where there are chokepoints.  since I got Ranger maxed out I may switch back to Strider to get the last two levels and then try Mystic Archer.  I still have a ways to go though-  I did all the Wyrm Hunt quests up to the audience and have been doing sidequests plus exploring in the meantime.

I'm not sure why the heal spells the mage has get a bad rap-  they're great for not having to micromanage everyone's health in a big fight.  sure, they have to stand still, but most of the time I find Winter casting a big spell in a stupid position it's not the green healing glow spell but an offensive one.  I've noticed the pawn AI seems kinda off in regards to having curatives:  Winter always has some but never seems to use them to bring her health back to full, and the hired pawns will pop them like candy even if they really aren't needed.

Mystic Archer's damage is based on magic damage. So, it might not be all that powerful if you haven't raised mage/sorcerer up.

you can not use VQ in inferno, if that's what you mean. if you keep 4 skills on CD for no reason other to regen mana you are dead. you also can't spam bears anymore. I'm 60, i've played my WD for over 80 some hours. I know about all the VQ builds.

a range of emotions...

I'm not talking about VQ. There are runes for poison dart, spiders, and soul walk that rebuild your mana. Though, the build I use I'm never mana starved.

I'll personally be waiting to upgrade my video cards when nVidia releases the cards for DX12. I'm currently running two EVGA Superclocked GTX 580's in SLi mode  and that is only slightly slower than the 690/680Sli.  In some cases 2 GTX 580's beat the 690 and the 680's in SLi. As for Ivy Bridge I'm waiting as well. My Sandy Bridge i7 2600k runs at 5ghz (Stock is 3.8ghz) without any stability issues on an air cooled system at 67 degrees celsius when running the Prime95 torture test. Temps are around 29-51 degrees during normal use. The IVy Bridge chipset runs hotter and isn't as overclocker friendly as Sanddy Bridge is currently.

The devs did say that they are working on balancing and damage values after this build.  They think they made the critters too tough and the players too weak.  The fun of balancing....
I've been enjoying the difficulty but  still quite low level.

So far, (after playing necro, ranger, warrior, engineer, thief), thief is my favorite.  It's easy to comprehend and pretty acrobatic in practice.  I wanted to love my necro but I wasn't "getting it" yet -- seemed to be very reactive to what others are doing around me, no non-awkward solo build that I could construct -- although switching between dagger and staff was kind of fun.  I've tried 3 weapons (dagger, pistol and sword -- with the various off-hand options) with my thief and each has had a distinct and comprehensible play style.

It was when I was playing my thief that the game began to click for me.

Necro really takes off with axe/warhorn, esp. if you are going minion heavy. Staff necro might be ok for party support, but it was subpar for solo in my experience.

I'll have to put some thoughts together later, going to get some sleep now.
I have completely eliminated pets from my Hotbar as they're useless. Instead I'm going scepter/dagger for massive bleed conditions and speed movement glyph and life force glyph. I can kill packs of enemies without any difficulty at all.
