So forcing legal owners who have dial up off is somehow a good solution?

No it's not. MOre servers is a good solution.
1763  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / HL2 Offline Mode -* First Post Edit *- on: November 16, 2004, 11:11:42 PM
I think the problem isn't with the technology but how many servers they have and the amount of bandwidth available to them. If they had more resources at launch I think it would have gone off more smoothly. As it is though, we're screwed until more people are done unlocking the game. I wonder how many dialup folks are using steam right now; those people need to be logging off.

I'm nearly tempted to dispute the charges on my card now. I really want to play the game, in a bad way, but they should have had more bandwidth and more servers to authenticate. I thought all people had to do was connect once and the game would be unlocked. I didn't know you had to stay online to continue playing. There needs to be some middle ground here. So as long as people are online playing we'll never get in.

This is kinda lame. I've been a supporter of STeam for a long time. However, I am starting to lose my patience now. I was reading the impressions of HL2 at work all day from various websites and my excitement is barely containable. I want to play NOW. It's on my HD right now, it's right there, but I can't play it because I can't connect to Steam.

It rocks when it works. Servers being hammered and I cannot login to unlock my already paid for product.

1770  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Half Life 2 - the reviews are in on: November 16, 2004, 04:26:38 AM
AI is lacking, story isn't very good, the game is easy, and the length is only 15-20 hours long

The AI for your team mates sometimes will block you in corridors (fixable) but in gunfights they perform splendid. The enemy AI is VERY good. The story leaves you hanging (just liek HALO 2 did and I loved the story so I disagree with the reviewer) and that is to be expected since Gabe said that there will be a Half-Life 3.

The game is easy? Relative and depends on difficulty setting.

15-20 hours long? That is a long time for a FPS. The original Half-Life i beat in less time. Halo 2 I beat in half the time. I love the experience and the game. 15-20 hours IS a long time for the genre.

I knew the story would end leaving you wanting more. That is the point and I like it because I know that a sequel is coming to complete the franchise at some point.

1772  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / OK I GIVE! IM OVERLOADED on: November 13, 2004, 06:23:20 PM
I would most definitely say this has been the best year for new game releases. (Console and PC combined; I play both and do not descriminate between the two.)

I am trying my best to not get into Everquest II before I play and finish Half-Life 2. I am enjoying Halo 2 (going to play it on legendary soon) both the singleplayer and multiplayer. I fiddled around with EQ II a little and now I am ready for some HL2!

Let's get it on!
1773  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Half Life 2 released in Savannah Georgia on: November 11, 2004, 10:56:45 PM

That just doesn't seem to be a very good marketing idea IMO.

I would wager that the majority of computer users have access to the internet. You can get a free or very cheap dial-up connection to activate your steam account and copy of HL2.

1776  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Halo 2 - It's ON! (impressions thread) on: November 09, 2004, 03:14:26 AM
I'm leaving my house pretty soon to head to EB Games for the midnight release! (Took off Tuesday! WOOT!)

Jaler is my name on live.

I won't be getting on live until I finish the game so it might be 2 or 3 days before you see me.

I can't wait! Listened to Chapter 12 (the last 4 audio files) from the I Love Bee's radio drama again tonight to get me pumped up! Oh the endings to each of those files is great.

Great how the radio drama is taking place during Master Chief's (Spartan 117) story in the books. Really get's you pumped up and ready to kick some Covenant ass!
1777  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Halo 2 Reviews - IGN/Gamespot/Gamespy (Poss. Spoilers) on: November 08, 2004, 12:56:38 AM
I don't think a single review has said that the single player is "horrible." I'm buying Halo 2 specifically for the single player campaign because I enjoy the story and mythos that surrounds the Halo universe. I've read all the books, played the I Love Bee's ARG (listen to the radio drama if you haven't! It is long and builds up to Halo 2! The voice acting is incredible.) I was expecting a game that was around the same length as the first game (I beat Halo in under 9 hours) and I also expected an ending that was probably going to be short and sweet. THe first Halo DID end very quickly and left you hanging as well; and no there was no sense of conclusion to the first games ending either.

Even the Gamespot review (I hate Gamespot and IGN both. Note: rrmorton: By greatest game of all time for the Xbox I think they meant to date, and would change their opinion if something came along to trump it) said that the missions, action, audio, and fun factor are excellent in the single player. Let's not forget that they did give the game a 9.4 and not a 4.4. THe game isn't a disapointment by no stretch in their eyes.  I think some people just like to find minor little things to bitch about and cling to those critiques like a rabid dog. I'm guilty of doing the same thing.

Just because one guy doesn't like the story doesn't mean others won't. I stand by my opinion that the majority of Halo fans, especially those who really are involved in the story and know what is going on, will love the single player campaign.

Now no one go and spoil this for me, I want to experience the game I've been looking forward to with virgin eyes.

Oh, and I hope I can play with some of you online after I beat the single player.

I go by Jaler.
1779  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / New EGM Scores (Careful...some Halo 2 SPOILERS within) on: November 06, 2004, 12:26:24 AM
Then I'm guessing the ending will be only a little longer than the first Halo based on what was said after my reply.

I am certainly glad this will be a trilogy! I wonder if Bungie will do an ARG like ILB for Halo 3? Any news on more books?
1780  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / GTA: SA Impressions on: November 05, 2004, 08:56:03 PM
Well, I really never enjoyed the previous GTA's to be honest. I was amazed that this one kept me as long as it did. I personally just found the game boring after awhile.
1781  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / New EGM Scores (Careful...some Halo 2 SPOILERS within) on: November 05, 2004, 08:49:34 PM
The ending might be a negative because that particular reviewer might just not like the ending himself. Maybe it leaves you wanting more, or maybe something happens that is a real bummer? I'm pretty certain BUngie is not doing a another Halo game, so maybe they wanted a longer more dramatic ending (if you remember the first Halo did not have a long ending in the least).

*Spoilers possible*

The Halo Universe is actually pretty depressing when you get down to it, and it might not have the happiest of endings (which is my current guess after reading all the books and studying the Bungie lore) so you're left feeling like it was all for naught. I personally don't see the humans or covenant coming out on top, I also think John might end up being hurt. I already know Cortana will most likely bug out completely and start becoming less reliable. Okay, I don't KNOW that, but if everything I read about smart A.I.'s is true, she certainly won't be herself this time around. Maybe not at the begining but certainly near the end of the game.

I'm not tripping on some other guy's opinion regarding the ending of a game. That sorta thing will vary from person to person and I'm guessing that those of us who really enjoy the story will be satisfied more than dissapointed.
1782  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / GTA: SA Impressions on: November 04, 2004, 04:46:34 AM
Well I'm tired of GTA: SA already. Played about 42 hours and I'm done with it. The radio stations are nice and the audio is absolutely slammin', but I have grown tired of the game. I'll pretty much gameshark/actionreplay my way through the rest then trade it in for game credits towards EQ II and Halo 2.

1784  Non-Gaming / Off-Topic / Why everyone should vote: on: November 02, 2004, 12:30:16 AM
He's talking about not voting at all......

That doesn't change the arguement in the least. If someone chooses not to vote for something that does not make their opinions less valid.
1785  Non-Gaming / Off-Topic / Why everyone should vote: on: November 02, 2004, 12:18:25 AM
Then the people who don't vote bitch and moan and whine about things being bad or not good enough when in that case they don't have a leg to stand on.

Saying that someone's opinion isn't valid because they didn't vote for a republican or democrat is asinine.

What if a person wanted to vote but they couldn't get into the voting booths on time to vote? What if someone got injured and had to go to the hospital the day of the elections? What if that person was injured on their way to cast their vote? So you're telling me that you will ignore their opinion because they didn't vote? That is absurd, immature, and illogical.

We all have a right to voice our opinion and every single one of those opinions should be considered. The moment you start specializing you start to stagnate or erode into a system that is no longer strong but weak.
Even U2K the Greatest in all his ramblings has the right to say what he believes. That doesn't mean those things are right or wrong or the best way to live your life (which is certainly subjective), but they are another way to live. Gather information so you have resources to draw upon; do not let your own beliefs cloud the bigger picture.  Someone might have a very good opinion; no matter if they voted or not.

I'm not trying to attack you; I’m just trying to understand why it is you think that way. It seems close-minded and a bit self-destructive.

I get a license to complain by voting.

We all have a license to complain.  Your saying that if someone doesn't vote for Black or White that they can't complain about the lack of Grey?
Seems a bit crazy to me.
1786  Non-Gaming / Off-Topic / The Road To The Grudge Is Paved In Suck on: October 31, 2004, 09:07:01 PM
As a note to my previous post:

The ONE movie to really freak me out was The Exorcist. I was about 10 years olds when I first saw that. My mother and her boyfriend were watching the movie in the living room while I was in my room playing Final Fantasy on the Nintendo 8-bit console. Well, I was hearing some freaky noises coming from the living room and decided to save my game and go check out what the racket was all about.

My mother and her boyfriend were sitting on the couch huddled together and I walked up and sat down infront of the TV and leaned against the couch. My mom in all her wisdom warned me that this movie is very scary and I should probably go to my room. (I had the destict feeling that she was trying to get rid of me so I said, "I'll be alright. I like scary movies."

Bad attitude. Parents are surprisingly wise at times.

So there she was on the bed. all green and grey and nasty looking. And then I heard the most disturbing voice in cinema history project itself from my mothers stereo. The voice of a demon. The voice of perversion. The voice of EVIL.

"Your mother sucks cocks in Hell, Karras, you faithless slime"

I went to bed that night scared shitless and believing that a demon would possess me.

Fast forward. I am now 25 and when I watch The Exorcist I laugh at the demons comments. I understood why my mother and her boyfriend laughed now too. The is some funny dialog coming out of that little girls mouth.

Though I can see why the movie can be scary for some.

Well I should admit that I have been watching horror movies since I was about 4-5 years old. My mother is a huge fan of horror movies; so I grew up watching them. So I've gotten used to them all.

I called my local EB and they said that they should have enough for anyone with a preorder tonight at 7pm.

So I'm not too worried, just hope I don't end up waiting in line too long.

Hmm, maybe I should call my EB to see if there is a line yet. I refuse to wait 4-5 hours outside a store for a game. A Game Console sure, but never a single game. Well maybe for Halo 2.

I might just die of excitement!

Then think in acouple of weeks HALO 2 and then Half-Life 2 and soon Grand Turismo 4!!! OMG!! AND THE LORD OF THE RINGS: EE!!!!!!!

You suck for making me excited. I just realised how close all this stuff is to being released.

7pm is the time for my local EB Games. I'm going up there at 6pm to see if there is a line, if not I'll park my vehicle and wait. If a line starts forming all get out and join the line. I have a feeling it's going to be packed at 6pm though, and I'll just have to wait until tomorrow. No biggie.

1797  Non-Gaming / Off-Topic / How bout that new mustang? on: October 25, 2004, 06:41:33 PM
The new Mustang is a Mustang.

I'm sorry but this:

Never, ever, EVER, NEVER, said MUSTANG to me. Always seemed like a very girly car. Doesn't even look like a Mustang.

However the new Mustang does look and oozes (sp?) Mustang from every pore.

1969 Mustang:

1967 Mustang:

1966 Mustang:

Now here again is the new Mustang:

backend of that mustang looks a lot like the 66-67 mustang.

Looks like a Mustang to me, and I'm glad for got it right this time around.

1799  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / GTA: SA Impressions on: October 25, 2004, 04:34:48 PM
I don't know what you mean by the game not having much gameplay or as good of gameplay. Reading all the features that are in GTA: SA and comparing them to the previous GTA games makes GTA: SA seem like it has a lot more gameplay than GTA III or VC by a long shot.

I don't know why playing a black guy would make it seem like you won't have the feeling of playing someone who is an extension of yourself. So you don't enjoy games that feature a female as the lead character? Or is it okay if she's white? I think you need to clarify your thought process for us else you'll come across as a racist; and you do come across as being racist.

Not that there is anything wrong with that.

...throws it in the trash in my opinion.

With comments like that you're only reinforcing my belief that you're waving this titles off because it stars a black guy.
