4121  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: Accessibility to Live Arcade games when M$ sends back new 360? on: August 24, 2007, 05:14:10 PM

Quote from: PeteRock on August 24, 2007, 05:06:37 PM

I have downloaded well over $150 worth of Live Arcade games onto my hard drive.  And my wife plays the hell out of almost every one of the titles I've downloaded under her own profile.  As many of you know, recently my 360 shit the bed and they sent back a new unit.  My wife used to spend a great deal of time playing all of the Live Arcade titles on our original 360, and now with our new 360 all of the Arcade titles only list the trial version under her profile.

I understand that Arcade titles are accessible to all profiles on the original 360, but if you were to travel to a friend's house with your hard drive the games would only be accessible to the profile that downloaded them and only if you're signed in to Live.  In this case it's MY F-ING 360, but I'm in a situation where my hard drive is connected to a new 360, and so I'm subject to the BS I described above.

Is there a way around this?  Because right now my wife is pissed?  As am I, since there is no F-ing way I'm paying for all of the same titles again.   icon_mad

I think you might have to call MS tech support on this.  if I understand your issue the Live Arcade games you d/l under your profile arenot accessible to your spouse under her profile?

Spoiler for Hiden:
When the office filled with steam I immediately turned around and went back out and didn't go back in until the steam cleared so for me that guy was just an enemy wandering the room like normal.

The one that got me was the guy jumping out in the funeral parlor.  I knew it was going to happen but just didn't know where

Spoiler for Hiden:
Yep, I did the same thing instead he came out of one of the storage freezers.  What did scare me was when you get the Shotgun for the first time.  The Lights go out except the one you are under and you hear the running footsteps towards and splicers jumping at you in the circle.  Good fun!

You realize that the Ageia physics isn't just for hardware, it is also a software physics middleware solution, right?  It's just that they also have a hardware board to help accelerate it or add further enhancements.

I kinda figured that out after I couldn't play the demo and it said it was looking for some physx dll  icon_wink
I don't think I have any other games that ever used it, so I just thought it was going to be an useless process for something I don't have running in the background.  When I saw something about it showing up in the system tray I decided to axe it.

Doesn't bioshock uses that software?  I could have sworn when I d/l the PC demo it had to install that on my rig to play the demo.  Anyway, tried the demo last night and I'm not impressed...I'll wait for impressions

Personally, I like the hacking mechanic, and find it a fun and rather tense mini-game, but there are several safes I have found that I would classify as hard, if only because you start with two looping sections and have to immediately find and open up a new path. It's not easy.

Does anyone know if you're able to hack into machines right off the bat, or are you not able to start hacking into machines until a little later in the game?  Right now I've only made it far enough to see a Big Daddy absolutely pulverize a splicer that was trying to harm a Little Sister.  No hacking icons have come up yet when I come across a machine (the only one being the lightning bolt vending machine), so I'm assuming I learn to later, or else I'm doing something wrong.  Haven't played much, so that might be part of the problem (just not far enough in the game).

It will come later.  You should be getting a vending machine soon and there will be a secbot that you can hack,  You will know it when you see it

You have to click on the square for the weapon to appear in.  If it's a spell that will equip your cleric with the weapon I believe you will have unequip the main hand weapon and then cast the spell.  This game is very rule specific.  I actually had to take a couple of feats for my cleric that I normally wouldn't have bothered with.  If you have a spell that requires hand movements well forgot equiping a shield unles you take to feat to be able to case spells without hand movements

In the medical area you will see a blast furnace with a dead body on the slab. There is a security camera near by so hack that first. You can press "A" at the slab and the body will go into the furnace. Allow for some time to go by, I went upstairs and finished that room and when I returned to the slab there was an Engineering Tonic sitting in a pile of ash.

WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!

After reading reviews and playing just a few minutes of the demo I've decided that I must have this game.  And because I'm so excited about the game I only played the demo for a few minutes so as not to spoil anything.  The reviews are just ridiculously high, even for the stingy review sites.  I wouldn't be able to call myself a gamer if I were to skip such an intriguing title.

I'm so anxious to play that my friend and his wife can even sense the anticipation and knowing that I won't have my 360 back until Wednesday have invited me and my wife over for dinner on Tuesday specifically so that I can play the game on their 360 and won't have to wait until Wednesday to play.

I'm also going to grab Madden '08.  I'll finally have my 360 back this Wednesday and can't wait to get back to gaming.

You can use it to buy off machines you can hack.  Instead playing the hacking mini-game you can just use cash to get a instant hack.  I'm sure there are other uses in the game as well

From the Eurogamer review, which is pretty well written:

"So, yes, the atmosphere and artwork is undeniably the thing that effortlessly grabs hold of the player, but BioShock is so much than an immersive tech demo poster child thanks to the amount of credibility that's been infused into every part of the game world: be it the combat, the exploration, the narrative, or the puzzling. It's a game that breaks down so well however you want to deconstruct it. And unlike so many shooters, this isn't a game that wilfully funnels you through narrow environments. The overarching nature of the game is still admittedly linear, but it's the kind of linearity that allows the player to poke around to your heart's content, and flit back and forth as and when you fancy sniffing out a few more secrets from a previously neglected area (and believe me, there'll be plenty). It's a game that will entice you to look at its map to explore, scavenge and go off the beaten track. And it's not just about the treasure hunt, either. With its subtle audio narrative forming as you go along, there's an even greater incentive to take you time - not only to discover yet more hidden audio diaries from the lost inhabitants, but because you're almost always rewarded for your explorational persistence."

Now granted, the reviewer sounds like he wants to have Bioshock's babies, but it's still a very compelling take on the game.

for anyone who wants to read LD's post but prefer the black background.

Thanks I had to high-light it to read it initially....silly LD

Okay...see, I'm about to run that quest, and the first thing I thought was 'I need to bring +1 (aka Magic) weapons with me.'  I expected possible incorporeal creatures. smile   Now I'm looking forward to putting some of my gold to use and hiring another cleric to go with me. smile  Turn Undead FTW!

Yeah, carefully with the quest. After I wiped I decided to run the Elf quest instead.  Probably will start over after I get a better feel fo rthe game, but I am liking it.

Thank you....after reading that list....I feel much better about the title.  I just wish I knew how old it was.  (His current 8/8 impressions of the game don't address any of my concerns, though the FAQ mention of a DM mode makes me happy.  )

Even if I have to use preset maps, DM vs the players would be cool for Multiplay.

Just rolled up a few different characters and I didn't see a option to multi-class or dual class.  I'll see what's up once I level. As for impression I rolled up a half elf psion warrior and jumped into the game.  You can roll up as many charaters as you want, but quest seems to have a character limit.  The first quest I just completed had me taking out some goblin brigands.  I grabbed a cleric and went hunting.  Travel is handled like Tales of the World.  You basically warp from town to different areas.  AI seems decent.  My PC must have failed their spot checks as the goblins used stealth to sneak up on my Cleric.  Combat seems okay amd not overly cpmplex if you know D&D. The manual which I haven't really read seem sparse.  Basically no information on classes and abilities, but everything is explained in game, but a nice manual would have been nice. We took out the three goblins and headed back to town.  XP seems kind of high as they awarded for killing the goblins, not losing a PC and obtaining a chest.  I got XP for each.

Anyway, that's early impressions...more later

Talked to Gamestop, local and corporate.  Both are 'gathering more information' to see if they will break the date.  As it stands, their talking point is "TRU only got a few copies so it won't affect our sales in any way.  We are holding to our street date for now."  The 'gathering' and 'for now' suggests we might see differently very soon, but when I called TRU (a few here in AZ) they were RUUUUUUDE rude rude rude about telling me that "No - nobody is selling them.  Whatever you heard, you were mistaken."  I explained the pictures and gamertags and they told me that I'm just "completely wrong".  Wow...bad day?

Thanks, Ron.   I'm thinking the Gamestop , Walmart and Target will be sticking with the street date
