3843  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Console RPG challenge of sort on: December 20, 2005, 03:15:23 PM
Like many here it seems that RPG's are grounded in cliche'  too many reuse the prince/farmer/peasant/disgraced warrior who must save/avert/return/banish  something or other.  So I lay down the gauntlet to see if anyone can come up with a orginial idea or theme for a RPG.

Honestly, I don't think it can be done. I'm curious to see if anyone here can do it.  Imo, RPG are about high adventure.

3845  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / DS or PSP? on: December 19, 2005, 07:48:12 PM
Buy the PSP as some of the new games are starting to come out.  The DS is actually fun if you want to play  with a make believe dog or fuck around in some piece of shit town while looking for a fishing pole

I can recommend the Hunter's Blade Trilogy.  Really High adventure in that series.

Xbox 360 Will Remain Scarce

Microsoft launches console in Japan, says it will be in short supply for months.

Martyn Williams, IDG News Service
Monday, December 12, 2005

TOKYO -- Shortages of Xbox 360 consoles in the U.S. and Europe aren't expected to be resolved anytime soon, a Microsoft executive said Saturday after the company launched the console in Japan.

"Eventually we will catch up, who knows when that will be. Demand is just stunning, overwhelming," said Peter Moore, marketing and publishing corporate vice president of Microsoft's home and entertainment division, in an interview.

Demand Started Strong
When Microsoft launched the console on November 22 in North America, long queues of people formed outside many retailers.

"We knew we had one of the hottest products for the holidays on our hands but even I was stunned by reports the next morning of fights breaking out and guns being drawn," Moore said.

As a result, the Xbox 360 has become one of the hottest products on the eBay online auction site.

"The hunt for the 360 seems to be a keen sport now. We are replenishing the channels every week and a lot of retailers, quite frankly, took more preorders than they had stock coming in and they are only now fulfilling those. So for the consumers in Europe and the U.S. who think they can just walk up and buy one, I don't know when that is going to happen."

The consoles are currently being produced for Microsoft by two companies, Singapore's Flextronics International and Taiwan's Wistron. A third manufacturer, Canada's Celestica, will begin production in late January or early February, said Moore. All three companies will produce the Xbox 360 at their respective factories in China.

Microsoft CEO's Sons Suffer
Among those inconvenienced by the shortage has been Steve Ballmer, Microsoft's chief executive officer. Ballmer said last week that his children had yet to get an Xbox 360 because he hadn't been able to buy one and Sarbanes-Oxley rules prevented him from getting a free console.

"He's right, he's a section 16 officer that operates under Sarbanes-Oxley," said Moore. "I can't give him one, even if I had one, because he can't accept it and I don't think he pre-ordered it from our local BestBuy, which he lives pretty close to, so Steve is [out of luck] right now."

"I'm sure the Ballmer boys aren't happy with that because he has to get in line at retail like everybody else," said Moore. "He can come to my house if he needs games to play."

Ok heres my story I went to the Gaithersburg Maryland Target this morning 8 am was told " Sorry none came in not till January." I was like ya whatever.... Went to Guest Services asked them to do a merchandise search # 207210001 The lady told me they had none but the stores in Germantown (301)515-6882 had 4 and the store in wheaton (301)946-8006 also had for.  I thn beat feet to Germantown got their at 815am asked if they had any was told no...  Told them what I was told by the Guest Services in Gaithersburg and they did a search said " Ohh my I told 2 people already we did'nt get any" He then went to get mine I bought it and so did one guy that was also at the Gaithersburg store with me and found the same info I got.

So for all you people calling out their the people on the floors at Target dont know what they have you have to talk to guest services and have them do the merchandise search# 207210001 to find out where they are.

I am at work and will post a link to my pic of my receit and be online tonight.  Thank you to the person that made that post with the merchandise number you are the one I thank for my 360 cheers!!!!

I have a lvl 60 Tauren Shaman, 60 Orc Warrior, 49 Undead Warlock and a 39 Druid.  The Warlock is a good class and with Blizz redoing some of  the talents its even better, but it still a slow kill class.  The Change to Death Coil has made survivablility better.   I still feel that the class needs another form of CC.  Fear is just to iffy to use at times.  As it might cause more harm than good

When the doors open, we both head to the electronics department where we a promptly told that they got one premium system in. Guess who left empty handed?

Not a cheapshot at all.  I have a running commentary over in the sports forum detailing my progression.

FYI-I'm 7-1 with the Baltimore Ravens heading into a game against the Jacksonville Jaguars! :p

edit-I know some where upset about not having the Training Camp and Salary Cap shit in there, but I wasn't one of them.  Thats the last thing I care about in a Football game

[thread_hijack]

I must be completely misinformed... I thought I'd read that Madden on the 360 had the franchise/season mode chopped out to get the title out on release day?  Is that mode still in the game then?

Yep, the franchise and season mode is in game but is really scaled back.  None of the training camp and salary cap stuff.  It bother alot of folks but didn't hurt me at all

Cinn. Bengals at Baltimore Ravens

This was a match-up between two teams with only one lose a piece.  Whomever won would have the lead in the AFC North. The game is a defensive struggle from the get go.  Neither teams can establish the run and short passes seem the order of the day.  My Ravens are able to get two fields goals by the middle of the second quarter.  With less the 2 min left in the game the Ravens finally able to establish a run game.   Jamal Lewis caps the quarter with a 25 yd run for a TD 13-0 Ravens

Third quarter opens up with the Ravens getting the kick-off.  B.J. Sams fumbles and the Bengals recover deep in the Ravens territory.  This seems to unnerve the Ravens as the first play from scrimmage is a quick pass from Carson Palmer to Chad Johnson for a easy TD. 13-7 Ravens up.  The Next kick-off goes off without a hitch.  The first play from scriammage the Ravens QB is sacked and he fumles.  The ball  is recovered by the Bengals who score. 14-13 Bengals

After this there would be no more scoring from the Bengals as the Ravens finally clamp down on the Bengals in thier house.  The Ravens eventually win with sticking with the run.  Jamal Lewis ends up with 105 rushing and 3 TD.  Final score 27-14 Ravens

Next up the Jacksonville Jaguars

I still find it amusing that many of you bash the PSP when it hasn't been out as long as the DS.

Just seems rather short-sighted, but to each their own I guess.  I enjoy my PSP and find that I am getting my money worth and in the end thats all that matter to me :p

On the time aspect, well, the PSP's been out almost as long, and at least as long as the time that passed by the time the DS hit its stride.  But in addition to that, I also recall people ripping on the DS when it launched for not having many games, but those same people giving the PSP a pass because the tech was so "cool".

Your second point, however, I can't argue with.  slywink  That's what it really comes down to.  I can always agree with someone who simply says they prefer something, but I have a hard time resisting arguments when people start throwing around hard and fast statements about the worthlessness of, say, the DS or the Revolution.  It's just like the people who were originally ripping the X-Box apart just because it was done by Microsoft, when the evidence was in place that they were putting together a solid gaming machine.  (Which is what it turned out to be)

I don't see many people giving the PSP a pass due to the tech stand-point, but I do see your point.

As a side note My 11yr old niece has just requested a DS from me for XMAS.   Sigh, the blood traitor slywink Tongue
