Some server info. I downloaded the latest server client to the save on the server that I listed above and it appears to be more stable. Haven't had as many timeouts, furnaces appear to be working (arrow animation doesn't but smelting DOES occur). Hopefully this behavior is typical. Starting to shape up though......

That's odd. I was pretty sure I deleted the old version. Doesn't make much sense. Anyway I must have deleted the wrong one, just for cases like this, I made the uploader to keep one rotation of each users save (apparently - I know myself too well  icon_biggrin). Destructors link is still active and you can grab the save from there. That way, I'm the only one losing any work....which I didn't do much to begin with. Sorry guys.

Ok,
Sorry for the delay guys. Lot's going on and not a lot of time to play Minecraft  crybaby

I didn't get much more done on my slide, spend most of the time exploring around and through caves that I located off in the distance. Nothing to spectacular though.  icon_frown

The save has been uploaded and is ready to go.

Looks like the furnaces are officially still buggy but hopefully that goes away:

As for development, I was going to update the game yesterday, but kind of forgot.. Iíve fixed furnaces in SMP and added volume and mouse sensitivity sliders in the options. Iíve got TWO meetings today despite me trying hard not to have any at all, so the Friday update will probably happen at around midnight my time.

that was interesting.  seems to be crashing more for me that it did before, maybe it was from bringing the save game over to MP.

Yeah - I'm not too sure. It seems to be hit or miss. The issue (i believe) is that the client is still doing work which causes a data mismatch between the clients and the server. I think it's going to be awesome once it works well. I'm definitely looking forward to it.

OK. I played for a small time last night and worked on the slide a bit more. Nothing really worth posting more pictures over though. I'll post some tomorrow. I did get the save up and running on a server and it run OK. Things don't work quite right: redstone, ovens, ect...  Get on and play around with it if you want. If you post your name within minecraft on here, I will give you OP status on the server so you can give yourself stuff. For those that don't know these might be helpful:

Give player stuff: /give <player name> <id> <amount (64 max)>
Teleport to player: /tp <player to move> <player to goto> (this has been helpful for when someone gets stuck - falls through bedrock and doesn't die, as health doesn't go down on the server)>

The best place to get which ids are what you are looking for is here:
http://minecraftwiki.net/wiki/Data_values

Once the game is full featured, I would like to do things legitimately, however, as it currently stands the stove are buggy at best.

For the time being I definitely think the save rotation is still the way to go but wanted to let everyone see it in MP and maybe get on at the same time to play around with just to get the feel for it. Thoughts? Opinions?

Server IP: 66.7.219.115

I am going to start on it when I get home. Mp is getting better too. Going to put the save up on a server and see how, it runs. If its good, we can start doing that. I know the ovens still don't work without trickery. Ill post updates later.

Not sure who is next but have at it! You'll be somewhere in the base I built, looking around on the surface will give you your bearings, just watch out for the creepers.  oh, and if it's night avoid the forested area......

FYI - Mediafire has been down/not working pretty much all day for me. When it does seem to work it never sends the file my way. Care to try uploading it to the other site instead?

I just tried Slabety's site again and it hasn't been fixed yet (still no link given).   I'll give rapidshare a shot.

Yeah Slabety is having issues trying to determine why the file is timing out.

Finally got it. Sorry guys, been really busy and haven't had a lot of time to look at it. It appears to be working now (just uploaded a 32Meg ZIP file and it appears to be good. Let me know if you have any trouble think it should do something different even. Thanks.

Don't mean to intrude upon this thread, but how do you install these texture mods?  I can't find any file or folder on my computer except for minecraft.exe.  I have no idea where to put the mods!

Minecraft stores the files for your options and game files in your user directory. In Windows 7 (All my computers are running Win 7) it is located here:
C:\Users\*username*\AppData\Roaming\.minecraft\bin

There should be a minecraft.jar file. This is a compressed java file that you can open and view the contents with an archive program (WinRAR and 7zip to name a few). You just plop the files in the appropriate places and you are good to go.

Hey all. I spent a few minutes and threw together a way for everyone to upload to Minecraft Resource if you want.
http://minecraftresource.com/gaming_trend_save.php
All you have to do is put in your Username as it appears here on GamingTrend and the group password is FeedTheNeed. It will upload the file and prefix your username to it and give you the link to the file which you can just put right into the post here. Let me know if anyone has trouble with it. The next time you upload it will delete the old one.

And nice base. Only problem I see with the Deko texture though (or however it's spelled) - the glass is WAY too busy for my liking.

Could not agree with you more. I modified it to only be the bare frame around the glass.

Better?

Here is the updated terrain.png if you wish to update it. Other than that, I really like that texture pack.

Hey Everyone,
Being a minecraft player myself and constantly looking ways to change the games appearance and even behavior on occasion. I wanted to create a site that would allow people to upload things they use (tile sets, skins, mods, tutorials/guides, and map saves (not implemented yet)) and I though this might be a good place to mention it first. Bear in mind there is nothing on it yet but if there is anything you would like to contribute, please do.
It is obviously WordPress based right now and I hope that (if it take off) I will be able to dedicate time to writing a custom CMS to handle it a little more the way I want it to be handled. We'll see what happens. To upload, you need to merely signup for an account (account name and e-mail is all you need). It will send you an e-mail with your password in it that you can change as soon as you log in. The downloads need to be images or in a ZIP file. The server will not allow you to upload any other file type. I recommend describing your upload as detailed as possible.
Most importantly, let me know what you think. It's rather "primitive" at this point and I'm looking for feedback for what should be done first to make it a better product. Arkon is also going to give me a hand at trying to figure out what can be done with it to enhance it as well. Please let us know if you think of anything that would be a great addition or how something should be done differently and of course, if you find any bugs or flaws of any type. You can let us know on here or use the contact us page within the site. Either way, we will get it. Thanks and have fun.

I have been on the fence for a while on whether or not to get it as while MW2 is a great came, I get pissed at all the stupid crap in the game a lot. These lists are definitely a nudge in the right direction (assuming they don't change too much). Hoo-ah!

Decided to try and tackle a water slide. Has a self loading entrance that the boat goes in and lifts it up to the top. Then it redirectys the cart to the right direction and begins the ride. Has a lift mid-way through as well and will recycle to the entrance at the end.

Some distant screen screens. Not really any difference between them so no descriptions necessary:

I'll post the save tomorrow evening and hopefully it will be done and fully working (try to get water to do exactly what you want is apparently rather tricky).

The NE exploring is most likely me. That tower is the one I built hoping I could find that location again. As I said, there were a ton of mines over that way. OK. Didn't have as much time to play this time through as I would have hoped, but I was able to finish my bridge that I was working on and replace any resource I took from storage (I think). It turned out OK. I may tweak a few minor imperfections on my next round but other than that. I like the result. I also spent a lot of my time exploring a new part of the world that I stumbled upon. This place was HUGE! Had caves and inlets galore within a huge mountain range. I did build a pillar with flames at the top to guide me (or someone else) back there if they get near it, but I was unable to find my way home (was probably much easier than I was making it) so I don't have a clue as to where it was. I am sure there are a TON of resources there though if we ever run short. Below are some screens of my bridge project.  Let me know what you think.

Side view of it. Halfway across the bridge when building, I noticed a small island that I could connect it to if I went that way so I decided to go with it, so now it connects 3 islands.

Side view showing the other side that doesn't have any paths going to it.

A photo looking up in between the waterfalls from either side. Pretty neat view. You can see that I just put floating blocks of dirt to hold up torches to light the path from underneath. The lighting of the bridge may change my next time round. This was relatively simple to do so I went with it to try and get everything done..

Simple picture of one of the entrances to the bridge.

Finally a view from within the bridge.

I don't know if I was the only person in the world that didn't know about this "glitch" but it was news to me so I figured I'd mention it. If you are in a boat and go under a waterfall, it lifts the boat in to the stream - at a high rate of speed as well. It was fun playing with that.  icon_smile

I uploaded the save to a domain I was going to use just for Minecraft stuff like this and you can find that download link here: http://minecraftresource.com/gamingtrend_save/World5.zip. I was thinking about making a little form that would allow everyone to upload the save to that server as long as you supply the password that we designate (to prevent random people from uploading random crap).

Anyway, I believe Arkon said Destructor was up next. Have at it.

A little update on what I've done last night. I spent a decent amount of time just looking around at what all you have done. Lot's of things to look at.  icon_biggrin I wanted to build a bridge of some type to connect these two islands that I was going to start working with. I decided a mid-air bridge with water surrounding it might be pretty cool. Here are some snaps of mid-progress:

From the side looking up at it.

From inside the tunnel. I think it would be cooler if the floor had water underneath as well. I also have some interesting ideas on lighting it in a specific way as well.

Directly underneath of it.

I'm a little torn as to how to finish it up. I have a few things that I want to change yet to make it a little more unique. For example, I want the walkway to have water underneath as well, so it would essentially be a mid-air water tunnel. Then there is one thing I'm in the middle of so I'll see what your opinions are. You think I should keep the water enclosed as it is, or should I break the bottom of the glass and have the entire thing be a waterfall?

-Slabety

P.S - I'll post the save this evening once I'm done.
69  Non-Gaming / Hardware / Software Hell / Re: New laptop with Windows 7 - Blue Screen of death x 7 on: August 23, 2010, 05:14:14 PM
Is your computer set to reboot automatically on failure or do you have time to read what comes up on the screen. The "random" things that come up for BSOD's actually can provide some direction to where to begin troubleshooting as far as to start with HDD, RAM, or Driver. If it IS a driver issue (which ATI seems to be behind with drivers more than I think they should be. - their hardware is fantastic, drivers are just lacking), it will usually have a driver file in the BSOD telling you which file did something it wasn't supposed to.

Key things to take away from a blue screen are the set of words 3 lines from the top of the screen usually all in capital letters (not all BSOD's have this - but when in Windows(as opposed to booting up) they typically do), in all capital letters such as "IRQL_NOT_LESS_THAN_OR_EQUAL" or something like that. Also, if it's a driver issue, it will list the driver file that did it at the bottom of the blue-screen. If you can get that information it would be a lot better to send you in the right direction.

With video cards, I have seen a lot of issues that appear to be driver related but end up being something entirely different. Either way, I hope you get everything straitened out.

P.S. - If your computer reboots on failure Right-click My Computer->Properties->Advanced System Settings(on left)->Advanced tab->Startup and Recovery Section and click on settings. Uncheck the automatically restart box. Next time it fails it will wait for you to turn it off.

(Sorry if you knew most of that, just giving everything I can to try and help).

Vista had a lot of core issuescaround the display handling since they changed so much about it. They obviously did a terrible job.

In order for that function to work, the app or game would have to meet certain requirements. If the developer did anything weird with the screen output or resolution it may not work.

I would recommend contacting them to see what they say. Maybe they will put a bug in for it.

75  Non-Gaming / Hardware / Software Hell / Re: YouTube replies..how to add a link? on: August 18, 2010, 08:56:06 PM
I don't think there is an easy way to do it. I read somewhere once
that you can use javascript to turn your text upside down which then can't be parsed as a link by their check but the browser can still interpret it.

Also, youtube automatically creates comments that contain a time into a time link. For example"what he did at 2:13 was awesome". They would make the time a link that when clicked goes to that place in the video. Maybe these were what you saw as well.

Did you have any luck getting this taken care of? The black edition just means the multiplier is unlocked. What motherboard are you running and i could probably tell you where to go to see the multiplier. I've overclocked a lot of machines and i never have hood luck with the application style tools (with the exception of gfx cards).

The os would most likely not report the black edition as it is an internal setting of the proc and not reoprted from the bios.

Agreed,
Hello everyone, this is my first post. Woo!

I too have been using Windows 7 since it was released as BETA and went to several of the technet events for it. I have never had any major issues with it and in my opinion consider it to be a good upgrade from Windows XP unlike Vista which is a close competitor for worst Windows OS ever running with Windows ME. When my customers ask me what OS I recommend I now am confident in telling them to use Windows 7 64-bit instead of hiding from Vista.

Some of the manufacturers of drivers were a bit behind the game at first when it came to 64-bit drivers, but all new parts and products are well supported and most are very stable (some better than there 32-bit counterparts honestly). You'd be hard pressed to find a new piece of hardware that's 64-bit drivers were flakey (unless they just make bad drivers - insert many companies name's here)  icon_smile
