I have seen major lags issues (both FPS and network) and this has been on my super Rig (nVidia based) as well as a couple of my spare rigs (both ATI and nVidia). I think the issue is more fundamental than a driver issue or related to a specific card type (this is what lack of BETA testing does). When in game my card is NOT being utilized. My processor is doing a lot of work (which I don't think should be the case).

There are a lot of issues with the servers as well. My server crashes a couple of times a day, and there are times when I (yes the freaking admin) can't connect to it or get on it and I have to use the admin panel to restart it. They also won't let me access the logs and when I put a ticket in they close it as not important since they limited everything to a single host (gameservers.com) they are SWAMPED and unable to help everyone until they get the major issues ironed out the affect everyone.

If they could iron out these stupid issues - I personally think the game is awesome and much better than MW2. Here hoping for the best.

Wait.... There's fishing?

I have built a fishing rod and tried it out, but have not actually caught a fish yet.  I did see on the wiki that they give you less health back than pork, apparently, so I'm not sure what the point is.  Much easier to see and kill a pig.

You could always fish for pigs....    icon_smile
4  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: Minecraft Succession - GT Style on: November 09, 2010, 07:59:20 PM
Update for both tomorrow:
General fixes:
* players and mobs in lava or fire no longer spam sound effects
* getting hit with a higher damage while recovering from a smaller one now works as intended
* lava flows further in the Nether
* zombie pigs eventually forgives
* added support for custom texture packs
* fixed duplicate buttons when resizing screens
* zombie pigs and ghasts no longer get hurt by fire or lava
* fixed volume sliders now saving properly

Multiplayer fixes:
* hellworld=true no longer overwrites old save chunks. Player positions will still break if you switch it on a running server, though
* boats are now visible to other players
* minecarts move nicer
* fishing kinda sorta works, but needs more work
* sheep and cows look like sheep and cows now
* buckets work now
* fixed stairs being really difficult to destroy
* increased the timeout before “Took too long to log in”
* made it possible to ride carts and boats (pigs should work too..)

Yeah. I have a server pre-ordered and anyone here is more than welcome on it at any time. I don't expect to have too many people personally - we are just a small group of people that play together (I suppose you could call it a clan).

PhaseChangeGaming [PCG] is the group name we go by.
Is is a ranked server
I will be providing a public chat server eventually if the in-game chat is insufficient (they have been amazing so far - so maybe this won't be necessary).

My name in there will be Paronity. Contact me if you need anything or want to be a regular member and we'll add you to the list.

I jumped on the server the other night and didn't crash in the same spots I used to, so that's a plus.

Being that health still doesn't work correctly, it still isn't good enough IMO. Part of the fun is building the stuff while surviving and if you can't die, takes a little away from it.

Anyone have any interest in taking the save for a bit? I have a few days before I'll have any time.

What does Notch mean on his blog about the patch?

"The server update is not mandatory, but you might want to update just to make sure."

What is a server update and how do you do one?

Edit: Sorry should have put this in the main MC thread.

Probably means the server version of the software. Not anything that needs to be done if you are just using the client.

The server is up and running with the latest edition of the save. I did not have time to play though and test things but in the two minutes I did I noticed that mobs and animals don't die still as well as health is still not removed when you get hit of fall.

If no one else wants to I'll take it for a bit.  Has anyone tried setting up a server since the update?

I was kind of assuming it wouldn't be worth it yet, since Notch said his/their first priority now was working on Survival Multiplayer bugs and features.

This is true, but he did say that he fixed a lot of the annoying bugs. I'll set it up this weekend on my server and see how it goes.

The save has been uploaded:

Just worked more on the sky bridge than anything else. I am decently far away from home base apparently. I am still working on the overviewr. Still doesn't want to render everything. I don't have a ton of time to figure it out at this point but I will continue to when I can.

10  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: Minecraft Succession - GT Style on: November 03, 2010, 12:38:42 PM
OK. Sorry for the delay. Been working on several things. First, I walked for quite a ways to get it to generate new chunks to the east of the main site. Once over there I ran into a rather large winter biome and looked for a place to call home in this new world. I stumbles across a large pillar in the middle of a rather large mountain range and knew this was THE place to go for.

I started by build access from each side to the entry shaft and then tunneled up to somewhere near the top.

This is where I started to hollow it out for floor 1. I then shafted along on corner to the very top.

Then I flattened it of and topped it with a pyramid. I also added a skywalk connection here.

Just a view looking out over the sky walk.

This image is just showing that there are a lot of nice looking mountains with faces that could be used for some rather interesting builds. I am still working on connecting the skywalk to the main base for now.

Some notes I've noticed, confirm if true. There appears to be more resources. By this I mean the quantity of veins has stayed the some but the amount in each vein has increased. Each vein of coal is typically yielding around 15 pieces for me in the new chunks. 8-12 for iron. And so on. Seems that more animals and mobs are spawning than there used to be as well. I have not build a portal or messed with the nether yet as I was working to give us a main base in the new chunks. I will continue to do the sky bridge throughout today (wife is sick and had to take a day off work so I have a lot of time) and I will up-load tonight.

I'm looking into the overviewer. IT appears that the update may have caused it to flip out a bit. It cuts off. The east side should go a good bit further than what it is showing. The source code is posted at github and it looks like they have made some changes but not released a version to implement them as of yet. I will keep an eye on it. Also, it appears that multi-player is getting closer to being stable enough to start using as the primary play mode  so we can set up a server and start using it. I will continue to test and play with it as well.

Once I upload, who is next?
11  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: Minecraft Succession - GT Style on: October 27, 2010, 11:37:50 PM
OK. After lots and lots (and lots) of mining I have my huge area clear.

View from above. Now to put my evil plan to work. I even took extra time to go an extra layer down so that I could lay dirt across the whole thing (since I had so much of it - and so it would look the same).

Just a picture of the chests that were used to store the plethora of dirt and stone that was mined. I found a good bit of coal, iron, and gold too. I also had to tear down a good bit of trees which I replanted on the other side of the hill. Is anyone interested in the save now? Just didn't want to upload if it's going to be me grabbing it again.  icon_biggrin

Let me know and I'll upload it ASAP.

Yeah. I hosted a server for every COD there was until they removed them. I have to go through a company now rather than using my own hardware (http://www.gameservers.com/blackops/), but it will at least be better than p2p hosting.

if no one else wants to I can give the save a spin.

One of the caves I just located while clearing land has a rather sizable amount of obsidian to harvest... Just need to do it.

Anyway, I have had my fill for a couple of days. Been clearing out a lot of land to make way for a couple of projects that I am going to put all in the same place. Issue is, I need flat land. It's been a painstaking couple of days thus far and have a lot more to go. But I'm convinced it WILL be worth it (I  think).  icon_confused

Just a couple of shots of the land that I am starting to clear:

The overview is a little different (harder to see IMO) because it's using the textures from the texture pack I'm using. Didn't really think that through before starting to use one.

I wonder if we'll be able to bresk down lanterns so we can move them without needing to rebuild them. I'm thinking of placing a lot of torches around just in case- that'd be a ton of free lanterns!

OK,

I was able to cleanup the slide a bit more. Just need to modify the turns to make them a little more "speed friendly". Will work on this my next time through. I was able to collect a good bit of resources to continue the sky-bridge as well (although didn't really work on building it too much).

Picture of the resources waiting. Pretty much took out two more beaches and working on a 3rd (the 3rd one is rather huge). Should take a while to deplete that one. I pretty much tossed more stuff in the ovens every time I needed to run back to the base for anything. Unfortunately, we are running low on coal. I found a decent amount but it is used in smelting and there are over 150 torches on standby for the sky-bridge too.

I planted some trees at the home away from home so there would be access to some wood if need be. I had to run to the other side of the hill the two times I needed to get some wood. Felt this was quicker :-).

Initial official release of the slide. This is a view of it from the sky-bridge. I went ahead and connected the top of the slide with the bridge as well for easy access. Added some mood lighting and removed any stone (that were obvious) that didn't need to be there. I tidied up the water a little as well and re-formed some of the flow issues it had (there are still some to deal with). It IS fully functional but as I said earlier, chance of boat breaking are fairly high due to the turns not being wide enough. I made it through couple of times by steering the boat with it. I want it to be fully automatic though so you don't have to control it.

I also added a secret room in the home away from home. 100,000 internets to the first person to find it. icon_biggrin

Here is the save link at my site:

http://minecraftresource.com/gamingtrend/Slabety_World5.zip

The issues you saw Arkon must be related to your internet connection. I havent really change anything (except increased the timeouts slightly) but it seems to be working. Hopefully it will work for you next time. I did, however, notice a rather stupid issue with the uploader. I'm checking username and password after the POST occurs. That means it uploads the entire file to the server and THEN checks username and password. Will throw you to the page to upload again and throw the entire download away if either of them are wrong. Of course, I know this from actually doing so when uploading this time.....Will be fixed by the next time someone has to upload.

I will update the map in the overview link that I posted earlier shortly with the new version of the map. Will post again once it's done. Arkon, If I may suggest updating your post with the things we all know about in case outsiders to this thread want to see. Like with a link to the overview that I posted so everyone can see the current state of the save without going through the whole thread looking for posts as I intend to update those maps every time someone posts a new upload. I intend on making the server do it on submit eventually, but for some reason my server hates running python scripts that use multi-threading. Just a thought though.

Ok. Here are a few minor update images of the slide. All I got right now, spent a lot of time smelting more stuff for the skywalk and exploring some of the caves in the mountains.

A view of the complete projected from the side.

Front.

Parts added to complete and throw you near the entrance.

I did successfully make it down the slide with a new boat. After a time or two the boat will break as of right now. I will eventually fix some of the corners to be a little smoother and easier on the boat (for now just kind of steer with the boat as you go). I'll upload the save tomorrow evening. Goals for tomorrow are simply to build more of the skywalk and get more resources collected. I have a few very minor projects in mind but we'll see how much time I get.
33  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: Minecraft Succession - GT Style on: October 01, 2010, 01:51:20 PM
I spent some time trying to get this Google Maps powered view of our map (full with zooming and moving around). After some tinkering I did finally get it to work correctly. Check it out below:

http://minecraftresource.com/gamingtrend/overview/index.html

Looks pretty cool. We have a ton of unused space in the mountains. May have to look into taking care of that problem and build something over there. As far as the save goes. I got the slide done, still needs some tweaking though. Boats still break every now and then and the corners aren't perfect. I have also been making a lot of stone and glass to work on the skywalk a bit. Post up some pics tonight and I'll upload tomorrow night.

I modified the timeouts again. The bandwidth limit is nowhere close to being reached and neither is the HDD space allotted for that domain. The only thing I can figure is that your internet was slow enough to still hit the elevated time limits that I placed. If you want, go ahead and try it at your next opportunity and see if it works. Let me know.

Remember, if all else fails, you can use wood to power the furnace. And there's infinite wood (assuming you replant it).

Very true, but tends to require reloading the wood frequently...but I suppose it is better than using up my entire coal reserve.

I have no major projects planned for my next run. Just some tidying up and finishing my slide (hopefully). I will go tunneling for some more resources for the cause!

has it got Dedicated servers for the 360/PS3 version or is this just PC?

Probably just PC. I would imagine that XBOX and PS3 will use there own systems. Microsoft is obviously going to use XBOX live. Why would they pass an opportunity to make more money? icon_biggrin

P.S: Turns out it is like BF BC2. Gamerserver.com was selected to be the dedicated company to host these servers.

not sure what you mean, since BF:BC2 uses Live and is dedicated

That is what I mean.....   MS will use live and there are independent dedicated servers for the PC.
