Non-Gaming / Off-Topic / VOOM!

The family is scoping out a new 50-60 inch Sony Wega  with HDTV. Since we will have a HDTV that either has the tuner built in or is HD Ready we are wondering what is the best way to go HDTV wise. Right now we got Dish network and for 10 bucks more a month you can get 5 HD channels but no local HD channels and you have to buy the HD reciever out of pocket, no spiffy deals.
Charter HDTV looks to be similar to Dish but you can get local with it. Granted there is nowhere on the charter site that I can find out if charter has an HD DVR reciever. Granted if possible we would like to not go with charter they turned out to be overly expensive.
Also looked at VOOM! which looks interesting with 35 HD channels(!) but for install you can do 499(!) which is excessive to say least when we installed our last dish by ourselves. Also the everything pack is 89 a month which isn't to bad all things considering. Also says nothing about local channels in HD and VOOM! doesn't have a DVR box yet from what I could tell.
Havent looked at DirecTVs options for HD I'm scoping those out atm.
Any info would be appreciated on whether they have experience with HD stuff or the 50-60 inch Sony Wega rear projection tv  Thanks in advanced!

I voted. There was actually some interesting statewide stuff to vote on. I voted for prop 70, which would expand casinos on tribal land. Against the DNA prop, which would allow collection of samples from people caught in the criminal justice system, and for our stem cell proposition. Oh yeah, and for revamping the 3 strikes law.
It's gonna be like watching a football game tonight, watching all the scores come in. Bah why did ya vote to let casinos expand on tribal land that is slowly but surely nuking our main cash flow here in reno

I have had directv and I now have Dish.
The quality is good I don't think I've had an outage quite yet even with the crazy weather Reno has.
Someone once said the TIVO is a dedicated DVR with a satallite box while the Dish DVR is a satallite box with DVR shoved into it, thats a pretty correct statement. The 710 has been pretty rock solid even with its ass backwards design the 521s atleast for us can get screwy at times, like freezing and so forth, but most of the time they work great and do what they do. I have mine record 3 separate programs in a day. The 710 is a dual tuner box so that you can record and watch something else at the same time even though its weird.
DirecTV is like the high end you pay a lot of extra costs for little things and you throw a TIVO on top of it its just more money at them. While if you just keep a certain level of subscription it deals withe everything and you get a DVR out of it. So basically you get a lot more stuff for less. When you go through DISH. Its great though I doubt I would go back to Directv after having all the options and local channels through Dish. Also we didn't do a contract we can cancel and do something else whenever the hell we want to.

Non-Gaming / Hardware / Software Hell / Most effective PC cooling solution...

How do the heat pipes work exactly? There was a post on GG that showed a heat pipe on there vid card, and it basically surrounded the entire vid card. I'm assuming it has something to do with the chemical in the heat pipe, and that its basically a self contained mini water cooling type solution.
Also Zaxxon I have that fan and that thing is a beast. You turn it to full and it sounds like a dust buster. You have it on about half way and you down here at all. So when I'm alone or start gaming I turn it on full. If i go to lan parties or something I turn it down.
I believe it goes the slowest speed if you don't have any of the knobs hooked up.
