1801  Non-Gaming / Off-Topic / Re: In Honor of My New Firearm... on: September 08, 2006, 11:42:36 PM
My Dad gave me this for my 21st birthday:

Reminds me that I need to clean it since I last shot it....

Oh this was the original home defense gun, which has now been replaced by my Dads glock .40 which he loves. It has a home defense load which has the 1st shot as BBs then a soft shot then hollow point and FMJ. Make sure the 1st shot is the BBs so you know that if the gun gets taken from you the 1st shot won't kill you, just hurt like hell.

It is also wireless so you can log in from it and download music. It sounds very interesting acually. If it does more than the Ipod and it costs a lot less, just as user friendly I think it'll do well.

I mentioned at both OO and BC that this is a really good album and only got a couple responses agreeing. Now if they had some big titted women in the band or on the cover I probably could have gotten more people interested but alas it has neither.

To me it's like they made every song a tribute to an influence. One song channels Black Sabbath, another Led Zepplin, another the Beatles, there's even a little Jethro Tull flute in a song, Love Train has a neat little Rolling Stones sounding opening.

This is by far my favorite album of the last 5 years.

Kratz said "nice" and that was all that needed to be said.

1810  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Supreme Commander - Um.. I'll take one. on: May 12, 2006, 11:59:34 PM
I'll upgrade for this too. I mean shit, it's TA. What other game let me build 10 big berthas and Then I let them all fire at will at anything red and you could just hear the thunder of the artillery. It acually sounded like artillery.....Where I spent hours building enough power generators to get my vulcan able to fire continuously. Watching that chaingun rip through anything and everything and see the shells fly everywhere.

Or make a 100 fighters and watching them go into a V on the map as they all fired at one thing.  Or that same 100 fighters colliding into another 100 fighters turning into a giant dog fight.

No other game has been able to match the scale of TA. The only game that could do it, is anothter TA. And from that shitty quality video camera, I felt sorry for that little strip of land.

It looks like they've done it again. Long live TA.

Not sure if this would be any help or not but what about the navy or army or something? They all pretty much have a university program you do a couple years in the navy or something see the world and all that some skills and make friends and basically they rebuild you from the ground up. Might give focus to your life and it might not.

Either I speak wisdom or my I'm speaking out of my ass I'm not sure.

1826  Non-Gaming / Off-Topic / Desktop Thread 3/05 on: March 06, 2005, 10:44:49 PM
The style is called vector art, basically what you do is take a regular picture and out line it getting every little detail or no detail and then filling it in with different colors. Like the lady I got now the picture it was based off of was horrible it was blurry and bad but the vector artist took that really bad picture and made what my BG is, and  I think it is stunning.

That is a link to the vector art section in deviant art sorted by favorites so you get the best first. I think vectoring anything is kind of like taking a picture in black and white. Sometimes you get caught up in the detail of a picture but if you vector it it brings out a lot of other things you never saw before.

1829  Non-Gaming / Hardware / Software Hell / PVR DVR - whatever you call 'em (a PC that acts like a TiVo) on: January 19, 2005, 02:41:38 AM
Interested in this now that I've heard about it more since Dish's DVRs are pretty shitty overall. Can you set up timers and have it record a show for a hole season even if the times change and the like. Or do you just do a 7:00 to 7:30 timer.

I mean does it search the name or is it time based. Tivo and UltimateTV were name based you could setup something and it would record it even if it changed times. Dish is now finally getting around to that. In a recent update with there DVRs. If we could find a program that lets us do 2 tuners and be able to set it up so it records the show so that it only records new shows throughout a season and when the season ends it stops recording. That sort of thing.

1836  Non-Gaming / Hardware / Software Hell / Windows 98 or Windows XP? on: December 31, 2004, 11:51:11 PM
All the spiffy affects in xp can be turned off and down for low end systems. The mininmum reqs for xp is 128meg i believe. Also if anti spyware I recommend this:

You just install and turn it on and it just runs in the background, it prevents all of the random spyware cookies that you get from the internet. I'm not sure about gator or installed spyware. This just prevents little unknown spyware things. you need adaware and spybot s&d to get rid of those. The only problem is that since it just sits there and does its thinkg I keep forgetting to update it. It needs and auto updater slywink

The firewall that comes with xp should be ok, you friend might get annoying with it later on. A good free one is zonealarm which i think you were thinking about. It is pretty easy you just need to set it up for him.

1838  Non-Gaming / Off-Topic / Flat Screen TV pros/cons on: December 25, 2004, 01:43:01 AM
You might want to take a look at the next generation of "micro displays" its like a rear projection unit but its only 16" deep.  Most have an LCD engine in them but you can find them with DLP or DILA. So the picture looks very good. Be prepared to replace a $300 lamp every 3000 hours. But that is the same for any type of projection unit , LCD or DILA or DLP.  Plasmas have been dropping in price with the introduction of large size LCD displays they are at a price sweet spot now if you want anything at the 42" size
If I was going to pick a unit I would go with the Sony Grand Wega 50 inch micro display. If you can find one with out the built in HD tunners you  can save $600 and its rated number 1 by consumer reports.

Hope that helps
