Making it a Cingular exclusive is a deal breaker, though.  Since it's quad band, I suppose it might be unlockable, but the question is how well will it work on another network (e.g., T-Mobile).

And how much it will cost w/o the 2 year plan.  I'm guessing it will add $200, at least.

Acually I don't think you can even buy it without a 2 year. If I understand what they are saying correctly.
1763  Non-Gaming / Off-Topic / Re: iPhone - Ridiculous Disappointment? on: January 10, 2007, 05:06:26 AM
I'll admit that the interface and all of the applications it can do is really slick. The tilt sensor and other things it can do sound really cool.

My issues are that it is 500 dollars with a 2 year contract that is just crazy for a phone. Really they shouldn't of named it an iPhone because that is what most people are going to see, and say the same thing as that. I'm sure that overall the phone part is really immaterial to everything else that it can do. It's a pocket mac that can make phone calls.

I think that the screen is going to get scratched all to hell unless it is made from some space age polimer that doesn't get scratched. It's going to get finger prints all over it and I don't think the entire thing being a touch screen is a great idea. I mean if it is made of the same thing as the nano is good luck keeping it looking pretty as you throw it in and grab it out of your pocket all the time. And you can't put a cover over it since you need to be able to use the touch screen, I think at best it is going a flip thing or something around it but you need to keep the screen free so no matter what it's going to get scratched.

I'm no mac fanboy, I think most of there stuff is overpriced and there are better products that do more out there. I'll say it looks cool and I'm curious what will happen after this first little iteration and what other companies do to combat it if it takes off.

If you aren't in a burning hurry, Dell has sales every so often, where they clear out some inventory.  This happens every few months, and can you save a few hundy.

A few hundred, easily. Got a steal on my custom built (as you can choose what you want in your laptop out of a set of parts via Dell) Inspiron E1505. Now, if I could only tell ATI to shove off and install the damned drivers they have for download (but refuse to install because 'I should get my drivers from the manufacturer' bullshit)...

For ATI mobility chips since standard catalyst drivers don't seem to work, give the Omega drivers a shot. They worked in my old laptop although I had nothing but trouble with ATI in that laptop so I went Nvidia this time around and it seems to be working fabulously.

All of the ATIs I saw on Dell said they used shared memory.

Well for anyone that watched it, I thought it was pretty good. Does Samuel L. Jackson do the voices for both the Afro Samurai and his little friend person? Overall if you like Samurai Champloo I'm sure you'll like Afro Samurai, granted it is a lot gorier.

Well anime being Japanese you get some that overly "cutsie" I've found the good anime to have less "cutsiness" than the other kind. That the stories seem more serious and more to the point instead of the random cute character you get every now and then. Sometimes they can pull the cutsiness off without dragging down the entire movie or series with it. Like they were able to pull off Ed in Cowboy Bepop. Anime is really good with action and suspense but you get totally thrown out of it when a character just starts acting like a total idiot for no apparent reason. Full Metal Alchemist had this, overall it was a good series but when the cutsiness came in it just destroyed it for me.

That's my take on it anyway.

No no no, do NOT watch this unless you are _really_ into the anime scene, not doing drugs or alcohol, and happy with your romantic life.
It's a kewl series, but the creator himself had to spend a couple months in a mental institution upon completion.

I watch Evangelion on Adult Swim and I'll throw in that it is pretty...weird. Kinda cool, but, weird.

I truly recommend the Ghost in the Shell: Stand alone Complex. It is the series that was made after movie. The visuals are very nice and you get to know the characters better and there is a lot of action aid some episodes make you think also. Cowboy Bepop as was said before.

I'll throw in my hat for Samuai Champloo unless you want total Sci/Fi. I found it enjoyable, the animation style is different though. I think some of voices in Samurai Champloo are the same that were in Cowboy Bepop.

I shot my grandpas rifle he gave us, it's a 270 and I never shot one before so I didn't expect the total cannon like action of it. That thing is fun to shoot. Along with my colt python which is also a lot of fun to shot with the whole spin the revolver and snap it shut action. I have quite a few fun guns to shoot now smile

Which means if I don't do something early I will most likely have it also. But since it seems like the industry for diabities is so huge I doubt much will come with this. I hope that since it is Canada that something might happen.

Once you get out into 0.0 space the game pretty much changes. That is, what I think anyway, where the true fun begins. Because you aren't bound by anything anymore, you really do create what you want out there. I mean the SA, CA war down in the south lasted for over a year. Fighting over a region. The difference between EVE and other games is that you have a reason to fight. You are acually fighting over something instead of just grinding out honor points to get that omg supar knife. Instead you are fighting over territory and resources and the right to be out there. And you can lose stuff, you can lose a lot. What other MMO has that?

Been a long time gone, Constantinople
Now it's Turkish delight on a moonlit night

Every gal in Constantinople
Lives in Istanbul, not Constantinople
So if you've a date in Constantinople
She'll be waiting in Istanbul

Even old New York was once New Amsterdam
Why they changed it I can't say
People just liked it better that way

So take me back to Constantinople
No, you can't go back to Constantinople
Been a long time gone, Constantinople
Why did Constantinople get the works
That's nobody's business but the Turks

1779  Gaming / Multiplayer Madness (MMO or otherwise) / Re: Eve Online on: December 05, 2006, 05:11:05 PM
The contract system is the new escrow. I'd say it is now very similar to the AH in WoW. You can search for specific things, you can now do auctions on items. You can specify which region you want to search in. Also take out loans and a lot of other things that escrow could never do. Only issues is that you can't really sort after you searched and that if you search in another region you can't buy that until you get to that region.

The gang system got an overhaul also, the commanders can call out and tag targets. Tagging has been in the game for a bit acually.

Well the thing with that is that there are a lot of spam bots for blogspot, so more often than not you get more spam than you do acual conversation.

1784  Gaming / Multiplayer Madness (MMO or otherwise) / Re: Eve Online on: November 29, 2006, 06:05:01 PM
Well, if you remember. I was talking about instajumps in how they help so much. Well a big issue was that since bookmarks are stored on there servers and instajumps were used so much everyone had a ton of them, so they just put in a warp within 0km option. Basically you have instajumps everywhere. So instead of moving that stupid 15km everytime you warp you can just warp right to the gate and jump. Sadly the autopilot still does 15km but it's still a lot better than it was berfore you just need to do it manually.

It makes doing those rediculous 27 jump trips so much easier, instead of sitting there for 2 hours you can do it in 30 minutes, in a battleship.

I'm still bouncing around, my tales of wo and all that down in 0.0. Now I'm back up in empire and Gen and I started a new corp. So if anyone that wants to start out and mess around with eve, always will to take on new people and answer questions and help out how we can smile. All the vet guys on here know how we work so. SkyLander ingame you can just send me a mail or I'll acually check this thread heh.

Revelations adds a bunch of stuff, some new battlehips and battlecruisers, the idea of Rigs which are basically implants for ships. Ditched the escrow system for this new contract system. I haven't really messed around with it that much. You can also reverse enigneer things in the hopes of getting a blueprint out of it so it helps with research a bit. Revamps the gang system turning it more into a true fleet with seperate wing commander and squads, when you get into major fleet combat. And a bunch of other little tweaks and so forth. Can finally just warp to 0 so travel time is greatly reduced and you don't have to worry about instajumps and bookmarks really anymore.  All I got off of the top of my after playing a few hours today.

So like I said I've been around eve for over 3 years now so shoot me a mail or whatever if you have any questions.

1789  Non-Gaming / Off-Topic / Re: TV advice on: November 12, 2006, 01:27:11 AM
Don't buy off brand TVs. Main brands are always better. You are looking for HDMI ports and compenent inputs specifically and usually the off brand ones have signicantly less than regular TVs do. Safe bet is to just stick with Samsung at the moment they are still considered the best in TVs from what I understand.

Laptop should be fine, just make sure the resolution for the output matches the reslolution of the TV. Supported resolutions are usually in the manual.

May I ask what city/state you live in?

I think around 20 states now have "Old West" style laws where you can kill anyone in your home OR outside of your home if you feel in the least bit threatened. These laws tend to remove criminal AND civil liability where action occurs.  Michigan enacted one on September 26th that authorizes lethal force for anyone, even if they aren't on your property any longer..  Here is the current status of Lethal Force Laws;

In fact, this might be pretty odd, but I actively PLAN for the situation in my mind, and reherse it, and have preparations throughout the house for such an event. The wife and kids, well they know what button to push (part of the nice little renovation and gutting of the house last year included an integrated security/video system with hidden panic buttons in every room), and where the panic room is, so thats what is important for them.  Me, well, I go for the weaponry.  icon_wink

My advice, take this incident, learn from it, and plan for the next one.  Even if it doesn't happen, it will be great assurances on your mind when you can't be home with the wife/kids.  It is really a tragic thing to have your private space invaded, nothing makes anyone feel more vulnerable or angry..  So I know EXACTLY what you are feeling..

About the preparation thing, my dad used to know a guy that he shot with. When his house was being built he had metal plates installed in key areas of the home and a map of where they were so in the event of a robbery or something else he knew which walls to hide behind knowing the other person can't shoot through them.

That is planning.
