Non-Gaming / Hardware / Software Hell / PVR DVR - whatever you call 'em (a PC that acts like a TiVo)

Interested in this now that I've heard about it more since Dish's DVRs are pretty shitty overall. Can you set up timers and have it record a show for a hole season even if the times change and the like. Or do you just do a 7:00 to 7:30 timer.
I mean does it search the name or is it time based. Tivo and UltimateTV were name based you could setup something and it would record it even if it changed times. Dish is now finally getting around to that. In a recent update with there DVRs. If we could find a program that lets us do 2 tuners and be able to set it up so it records the show so that it only records new shows throughout a season and when the season ends it stops recording. That sort of thing.

Non-Gaming / Hardware / Software Hell / Windows 98 or Windows XP?

All the spiffy affects in xp can be turned off and down for low end systems. The mininmum reqs for xp is 128meg i believe. Also if anti spyware I recommend this: http://www.javacoolsoftware.com/spywareblaster.htmlYou just install and turn it on and it just runs in the background, it prevents all of the random spyware cookies that you get from the internet. I'm not sure about gator or installed spyware. This just prevents little unknown spyware things. you need adaware and spybot s&d to get rid of those. The only problem is that since it just sits there and does its thinkg I keep forgetting to update it. It needs and auto updater The firewall that comes with xp should be ok, you friend might get annoying with it later on. A good free one is zonealarm which i think you were thinking about. It is pretty easy you just need to set it up for him.

You might want to take a look at the next generation of "micro displays" its like a rear projection unit but its only 16" deep. Most have an LCD engine in them but you can find them with DLP or DILA. So the picture looks very good. Be prepared to replace a $300 lamp every 3000 hours. But that is the same for any type of projection unit , LCD or DILA or DLP. Plasmas have been dropping in price with the introduction of large size LCD displays they are at a price sweet spot now if you want anything at the 42" size If I was going to pick a unit I would go with the Sony Grand Wega 50 inch micro display. If you can find one with out the built in HD tunners you can save $600 and its rated number 1 by consumer reports.
Hope that helps

Heres and interesting thing, see how many times you can shoot in between the ipods without acually shooting the ipod. I hear about 4 or 5 shots and I was able to do it for a little bit before I click one to many times and hit the ipod.
Vastily more entertaining than acually shooting the ipod.
[edit hole crap I thought I was in the off topic fortum, I'm so bored I'm shooting ipods and forgetting what forum I am in when I make a bs post.]
[edit 2 and I can't type.]

In trap town I got surprised buy a headcrab zombie dude, only have my grav gun out cause i was messing around earlier and low on health I start grabbing random things and chucking them at him. First grabbed a table and through it at him only shoved him back a bit. Grabbed crate...nothin... trying to find more stuff and grabbed a paint bucket which proceeded to make the redish plane zombie into a new eggshell white zombie. Just kinda stared at that one. finally stumbled upon a saw blade and proceeded to slice the zombie in half

TSS used to be a great show, little bit of everything tech. I thought it went downhill when they got there live audience and new set. Alteast to me. It turned so corporate and canned.

Acually its not technically a remake, since in willy wonka and the chocolate factory he passed the factory on to charlie and just left. This is a sequel. Hence Charlie and the chocolate factory

Thanks mb, the world of Hi Def really does seem like a total gamble, in that picture quality and be totally different between 2 different recievers. Also seems that if you want HD local channels you need to get an antennea or rabbit ears even.
So it really does seem a crapshoot whether you get what you pay for, or your fighting to get a better quality reciever. Although dish just totally lowered the price of there 921 PVR HD reciever to combat Directvs HDTivo from 999 down to 540. So HD through dish does seem to cost substancially less than DirecTV atm.
