I'll start off by saying that I'm somewhat disappointed in this title. For a startup company, Avalanche really had a potential hit. Now granted it may still be. This is (after all) my opinion....

First off, the game does have fantastic vistas and landscape graphics. However, that appears to be where the eye candy ends. The character graphics and animations are somewhat 'cartoony' and not very polished compared to the work that went in the the rest of the expansive scenery and the graphics in other 360 titles.

You get the feeling that it's not quite done.

Second, the gameplay seems to be a bit 'buggy'. Of all of the 360 titles I own, NEVER have I had to physically reboot my console so many times. From complete lock ups to distortred polygons making vehicles either float or "phase" through sides of buildings or mountains. It gets frustrating.

Again - you get the feeling that it's not quite done.

Finally, (I could go on trust me...) The game is TOOooooooooo flipping easy! Yea, it's GREAT if all you care about are getting those oh-so-valuable achievements. But come on already - auto-targeting? Where the heck is the challenge to this? It's almost boring! Enemy bullets for one don't do NEAR the damage they should and its just too easy to take out entire cartels. C'mon Avalanche, give us a challenge. An option in the settings menu to turn on/off targeting or adjust the difficulty (ala' Call Of Duty 2) would have been nice.

Hmmmm... maybe next time we won't be in such a hurry Avalanche?

With all of that said, the game is fun to just wander around and get lost in. The grappling gun is fun to take on helicopters. I also heard a rumor about a sub. If that's true, I might throw in a few more points. But for now, this is definately a "rent me only" title....

Ahhhhh....RRoD (Red Rings of Death)

Got good news and bad news....

The bad news? Your 360 is toast.
The good news? Microsoft will fully compensate you and repair it at no cost to you. Heck, they'll even ship you a box to mail it back to them all stamped and everything. Seems like Microsoft has egg on their faces...

That's good news? The bad news of the good news is that Microsoft has gotten ass cheap when it comes to shipping - it used to be 2 days, now it's a week (at best). Expect a 3 week turnaround when you go the Microsoft route.

Well, I guess "not-so-bad news" is a better word for it!! Either way, at least MS is correcting their screw up at no cost to you (other than time). Guys that I know are renting 360s from places like block buster, throwing their HDDs on them and gaming away. Others are catching up on the latest PS2, PSP & DS titles.

While it sucks big time, there are ways to survive the dreaded RRoD.

IGN did a pretty good write up on the dreaded symptom as well:

Best of luck to ya.

Has Microsoft come and actually told everyone what the problem is? If it's something like the power supply or disk drive, I'd be a case cracking mofo... If you want something done right, ya gotta do it yourself....

To hell with the warranty.

When I hear the words 'Artistic Style' one game comes to mind - Assassin's Creed. If you haven't seen the trailer for this game, I highly recommend it.

The cinematics of this title are nothing short of amazing. Although I haven't had the opportunity to get my hands on it to take it for a test drive, I can only hope that the gameplay is every bit as good as the eye candy displayed in the trailer. This once PS3 only title was recently announced that it is coming to the Xbox360!!

Wow TML, that's a pretty relative question.
A pink DS with cute little Barbie or Hello Kitty stickers on it would definitely = GAY.
A pink DS wih the Pepto Bismol logo on it would definitely - NOT GAY.

It's all in the presentation.....

All I gotta say is that I've always been a console hater. I always hung around in the PC gamer camp and still do for the most part. That is until the Xbox360.

I kid you not-

The 360 is unbelievable. Coming from a hardcore PC gamer, that says alot! The 360 also does so much more than just game. If you have Windows Media Center, the 360 will pull content down from the server and stream it to any TV in the house. Come December when the HD drive releases, it'll add that much more functionality to it.

When you add everything up, the 360 is just flat out a good deal.

This weekend saw nothing but TEST DRIVE UNLIMITED pumping out of my 360 in all of it's 1080i goodness!!!
I'm 100% addicted to this game. Atari really nailed the digitization of the island of Oahu. I'm pretty familiar with the streets there and on more than one occasion, I've had that "deja-vu" experience when driving down the roads! Awesome, awesome game.

It's currently on my favorites list!!

The only game in my cross hairs this week is 360's Just Cause. I'm really jonesin' to explore that 250 thousand square acres!!

Oh, brand new here. Glad to be onboard!!

Welcome aboard!
No offense to you or anyone here, but I am finding it a tad fishy to be scanning the gaming boards and seeing a scattering of very enthusiastic posts for Just Cause that seem suspiciously like viral marketing, surrounded by post after post of people who have actually played the game saying it's complete crap. Again, I'm not accusing anyone, but it just seems a little odd... :icon_confused:
I think I'll wait for the serious review sites to weigh in.

[edited to add] scores are lukewarm but not terrible:
IGN 68%
GameSpot 72%
GameSpy 60%

Thanks!!

Nah, nothing viral here. Just an avid gamer thats recently migrated from a staunch PC gaming background to the 360 console. It's the only console that's managed to tear me away from my keyboard and mouse!!

As far a Just Cause goes, I'm attracted to the open endedness of it. That's about it. I like games that I can wander around and get lost in. Saint's Row is another game that great for "doing your own thing".

The only reason I found Gaming Trend is because I was looking for an old buddy of mine - Ron Burke who started ConsoleGold. Was surprised when I found it was gone! Does anyone if if Ron is around anymore??

OMG!!
I'm definitely going to get this. I used to play Guild Wars religiously. Kind of set it aside once I got my Xbox360. It looks like I've been missing out!!!

I'll be jumping back into Guild Wars tonight!

Thanks for the heads up!
