To pat myself on the back for getting a new job I picked up The Witch Watch by Shamus Young, available in numerous formats. I haven't finished it yet, but I'm enjoying it - it has something of a Gaimen/Pratchett feel to it, though maybe a bit dryer. He's the dude that put together DM of the Rings and wrote a pretty decent fan-fic of System Shock called Free Radical which is a free download on the first link above.

Definitely enjoyed it. The only down side is that my local NBC affiliate airs high school football on Friday nights, so here's hoping that they continue to re-air Grimm Sunday mornings at 1.03a.

One question: did they say why the queen herself is stuck there with no memory? I believe it was explained that the curse affects everyone. Though with Rumplestiltskin as the creator of the curse, I'm betting that he remains pretty much unaffected by it.

I'm pretty sure the odds of having every number 1 less are exactly the same as winning the lottery Technically that's not quite true. If one of your numbers is the highest possible number in the lottery, there's no way you're going to be one less than each the winning numbers. The difference is slight, but it's there. So the winning strategy would be to always choose the highest number possible, so you can never lose to this close call...

shovel the driveway by hand this year and buy one in march for 75% off! Sort of what we did last year. Bought a smallish cheap-o snowblower off of craigslist last year and then splurged on something much nicer late in the season. It was a used model, but reconditioned and took me pleasantly through the end of last year's long winter. Even dumped the old cheap-o back through craigslist for about what I paid.

It took me many many tries as well. I'm pretty sure the EMPs will stun him and then you can take some potshots at him. Once he starts tossing the grenades, there seems to be a pretty predictable pattern where he doesn't change direction, tosses out a cluster in front, then ~45 degrees to either side, then 90 to either side, before he swivels to actually target you. If I remember right, I took advantage of this and stunned him each time he tried to target me, then circle around and hit him with whatever I could. I never found any of the stuff in the room (other than the barrels) until after I defeated him.

This reminds me - I need to get to the optometrist.
I used to wear glasses, starting around 16 years ago after starting a carrier as a programmer. One thing that annoyed the hell out of me was the clip on sunglasses that worked with my glasses. Since my specs didn't really hug my skulll too closely, the clip-ons only blocked what was directly in front of me. Since it wasn't the 80's, that wasn't a particularly large conical section, so I tended to squint a lot even with my "sunglasses" on.
So, a few years back I decided to give contacts a shot. It took a few months of testing to find something comfortable, and then I contracted pink-eye from one of my spawn. This managed to swell into blepharitis which took around ~9 months to dissipate (without contacts or glasses, which had broken by now), which is fortunate (Ironrod will attest, I think).
My eyes have since cleared up. But there are frequent times when I just get a damn headache from working in front of the PC (sometimes accompanied by nausea).
Being near sighted in one eye and far sighted in the other is somewhat problematic. I can generally get around just fine. But driving down the road, one eye can tend to draw miy attention to the bugs on the windshield. When I first first realized I needed glasses (~17 years ago), I was heading to a wedding in the Chicago area and kept missing exits, since I couldn't read them until it was too late (before that I knew the names of all of the exits I used and didn't need to actually read anything).
It will be an interesting experiment - glasses while working, and nothing while driving...

Aye, 30% is a significant hike.
It's also possible that you have aged into a new rate bracket. For auto rates it tends to roughly resemble an inverted bell curve with the lowest rates somewhere around 40. Any marital status changes or kids getting to be around 15 (these also affect rates)?
Also, some carriers use your credit score in their rate calculation.
It's possible that they are trying to get rid of some of their inventory in a certain demographic and boosting rates with that group to encourage them to leave. Think "too many eggs in one basket".
