It would take about 2 seconds to program that option in.

Ugh... I start twitching when I read stuff like that, seeing as it's one of my pet peeves. For your own safety, try to never say that sentence out loud while in the vicinity of a programmer. Fists may start flying in random directions.
Its hard to win with you isn't it Tilt? I try to conceed a point and still you shit on it. Would it take 2 seconds to program the option in? Hell no, it's a figure of speech.

I do agree that the preview should be skippable. It would take about 2 seconds to program that option in.

how exactly does a 1 minute preview upset you? Also, I wasn't aware that previews are an American thing.

Whenever I see regular American TV productions (which isn't often, admittedly), every time they return from a commercial break there's a summary of what's going to be shown in the upcoming 5-10 minutes, just to keep the viewer interested.

There were a bunch of people who jumped into the thread to say things like "I like the previews," which for them was apparently reason enough for me to like them too. That is what truly puzzles me. Why can't we have choice in a game series that is entirely built around that concept? Am I the only one to see the irony here?

I haven't really seen the preview at each commercial thing on American TV so I'm not sure what you mean by that. A lot of serialized shows will show a preview at the end, but it's usually 20-30 seconds long and shown during the credits. So again it's usually not a big deal.

As for the irony thing, I wasn't trying to change your mind, but this is a video game discussion board, so I was trying to discuss why previews would bother someone enough to actually complain about them. I could see if they were Metal Gear Solid style 20 minute unskippable videos but in TellTale's case they are usually pretty short.

I will admit that one weird thing that bothers me about TellTale games (And any other dev that does this) is when they have a list of the developer's pets in the end credits. That shit drives me nuts. The credits are long enough as it is without adding in a list of 200 pets who really had nothing to do with the game.

Finished the first episode today, and it was very enjoyable. I kind of saw the ending coming (not the details, but the gist of it), but it was still effective.

I just wish Telltale would stop with their fucking mandatory previews at the end of every episode. It's like they're doing their hardest to piss off non-American players who aren't used to (and don't want) that kind of thing. They're essentially telling us that they're so desperate to show us an ad at the end of the episode we paid for that we're not allowed to skip it in any way. They even put it before your final results and the credits, which means jumping back to the menu isn't an option either. I end up turning off the sound and leaving the room until it's safe to come back, and no game should ever force me to do shit like that. I've complained to them about this before, but they ignore feedback on this issue. Every single time I play one of their games, I enjoy it up until the moment the preview comes up, which results in me feeling mildly angry by the time I turn the game off. That's not something they should encourage.

I don't get this complaint at all. Other than the fact that you don't like previews, how exactly does a 1 minute preview upset you? Also, I wasn't aware that previews are an American thing. Personally I enjoy them.

Oh yeah I totally forgot about that!!  I guess I'm constantly surprised that she isn't dead yet.

I know. I bet the writers could kill her off screen and it would take a couple of episodes before we even realized she was gone.

I finished Episode 1 up this morning. I was not expecting the end at all, which made the entire episode even more enjoyable.

Spoiler for Hiden:
But come on this is Game of Thrones we should know that everyone is susceptible to a quick death.

The choices you are presented with really do seem huge at the time you are making them. I will no doubt go back and play it with opposite choices.

I can't say that I'm a fan of the graphics style they use with this game though. It seems like they are going for a look that makes the gamelook like a moving painting, but everything in the background is way to blurry for my tastes. It's not going to ruin the game for me, but I wish they would tone the blurriness down a bit.

Also, on the PS4 I didn't notice any of the audio issues Ron talked about in his review. So your mileage may vary on that complaint.

Which still doesn't mean another actor can't come along and best that, or just do every bit as good with his own take.

And again, critical assessment can be altered by the actor's untimely death. Which still means it was great performance. But just because the actor that made it died, doesn't mean another actor can't come along and do just as well.

I'm just tired of all the, "Oh noes! No one can possibly do better!" talk.

I think Mark Hammil's mind and voice in Jared Leto's body would be perfect and blow Ledger out of the water. Assuming the script was decent.

Also, they do have a priest...

Isn't the Woodberry chick gay? (Sorry I have no idea what her name is, as she is now the least interesting character on the show).

I don't know if they'll catch up in terms of life time sales, BUT maybe it will be enough for Microsoft to finally release the actual sold amount instead of the shipped to retailer amount.

All in all though you have to hand it to Microsoft for listening to gamers and righting the ship.

Ran into a small bug last night.  I was turning in a requisition and saw the quest market pop over the officer, but when I talked to them, all I got was the VO, not the dialog wheel.  I went to another quest person, got the same result.  Thankfully, it worked after a game restart, so I didn't lose much time.

This has happened to me several times with the PS4 version. I just saved and then loaded the save and it fixed the issue. Still it's a bug that should be fixed.

Sort of. I've been to the blacksmith, but Bianca isn't listed as an option at either the "Craft Weapons" or "Modify Weapons" station.  There's no dialog option that seems to upgrade it either.

I'm sure I'm just missing something obvious here...

Did you switch to Verric's character in the blacksmith screen? I upgraded Bianca at the blacksmith but I'm pretty sure you have to press down or up on the D-pad to cycle your characters. Otherwise all you get in the upgrade screen is the unequipped items and the items your currently selected character is wearing.

BUT my GOTY goes to Middle Earth: Shadow of Mordor. It was the prefect mix of action, item collection and story. It also didn't hurt having the game set in the Lotr universe.

You can shoot them with a fire arrow, then execute them. It's easy if you have the double combat finisher ability unlocked.
I tried that for almost two hours yesterday.  I went through the motions, had them glowing with blue fire and hit the execution and got the ground execution animation.  Game didn't count it as an execution though, only a burning death.  had that happen twice.  Also tried branding them then tossing them into a fire, but that didn't work.

I've found a few different videos of some alternative methods, so I'll try that.

You have to make sure they are Brutes for it to work, Just find one of the big guys with two axes and you should be able to do it with the fire arrow into execute combo.

I'm with you on that. I thought this was the worst episode in a long time. Beth is a lame character and I really don't care what happens to her. So that made all the other "bad" characters they introduced even less interesting to me. The ideal ending to that episode would be a horde finding the hospital and killing everyone inside including Beth. That way we can get back to Rick and crew.

The only thing that wasn't clicking with me was that, apart from the one jerky/creepy guy, I'm not sure what Beth experienced there initially that made her so clearly against the place.

I mean, yes, she seems to have been abducted, but she wouldn't really know that.  As far as she knows, she got rescued and has to do some very minor, menial work in exchange for safe shelter, food, protection and medical care.  Sure the pasty dude had a clear rapey vibe and the "leader" is preachy and less in charge than she thinks, but what's so bad, otherwise?

I couldn't give you examples without rewatching it, but I seem to remember from the very beginning things were off. There were a few comments from cops right off the bat. I could be misremembering though because I expected something to be off. Nothing ever is normal.

Oh, there was a lot of talk about how awful it was, but I just wasn't seeing it, really.  On the surface, it seemed like a pretty good deal, but Beth seemed upset to be there right out of the gate.

I got this game for PC yesterday and played it until I reached the second "bonfire". It seems very promising so far. Lots of people are talking about constant crashes and instability, but I haven't seen anything of the sort. On the other hand, my PC is pretty powerful, enough to run this game at a stable 60 fps on very high detail.

I'm about 7 hours in now and I'm not sure what you mean by "bonfire". Anyway the game has been pretty stable on the PS4. I did run into one bug though. My character got killed, but for some reason the game failed to load to the death screen. Instead my guy kept laying on the ground, dead, BUT I could move him around. So I drank a health potion and it did refill my health, but I was still laying on the ground able to move my guy around like some kind of weird human skateboard. So I took that opportunity to explore parts of the area I hadn't gone to yet, and wouldn't you know it I got attacked and since I was technically dead I couldn't fight back, once my health was down to zero I died again and this time the game reloaded properly and I was even able to go back and reclaim my lost XP.

All in all though the game has been solid and I'm really enjoying it. Is it as hard as Dark Souls? NO, but that may be a good thing, it's still plenty hard and if you are that good at it then you can always choose to forgo the save spots.

I went through it and it does load your characters in then it looks at your achievements and loads them in too. So I don't know if that helps with the decisions it makes for you or not, but I found the default decisions to be really close to what actually happened in my play through of both games and the DLC. I did make some changes to it but overall it was already close to what I remember happening in the games.
71  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: [PC/PS4/XB1] Lords of the Fallen on: October 29, 2014, 02:03:41 PM
I have about 3 more hours into the game now and I'm really digging it. Anyone who likes Dark Souls should love this game.

The only real complaint I have is that you can tell a small studio made the game, because the visuals, while mostly excellent, don't have the same level of polish that AAA games have. There's lots of artifacting and the frame rate seems to drop at random times.

Another small complaint I have is that the boss characters are actually easier to defeat than some of the regular monsters, at least through the 4th boss. While they each require a different strategy, they don't hit nearly as hard as some of the regular monsters and they are usually slower too, which makes it much easier to pick them apart if you take your time.

I went ahead and pre-ordered it and I got about an hour of play time in this morning on the PS4 version. My short take is that it will scratch my Dark Souls itch until Bloodborne comes out. It does seem to be more forgiving in that there are optional save spots scattered around that you can use if you want to. The trade off is that once you use a save spot your combat multiplier resets. Building up the multiplier increases the XP you get from monster kills and the loot drops get better with higher multipliers.

As for the story it is pretty light so far.  After an hour of play time I honestly don't know who my character is or why he's fighting monsters, so maybe that will improve and maybe it won't.

My short take is that if you like Dark Souls then you will probably like Lords of the Fallen, but I do need more play time to be sure.

If they include live sporting events then we are one step closer to really being able to ditch cable. Now we just need ESPN to get on the band wagon.

How does CBS enter the "makes a cable subscription worth it" equation?  Are there some extra CBS sports channels not available over-the-air?

Where I live I can't get a good over the air signal on any local station. Which means I need Satellite (for the sake of the argument it's the same thing as cable)  in order to watch any local sporting event. Thus I hope they include Live sporting events as part of the subscription, I don't want to wait 24 hours or even 1 hour to be able to watch a football game, etc.
