2561  Gaming / Multiplayer Madness (MMO or otherwise) / Re: LOTORO Volume 2: Mines of Moria (impressions/screens) on: December 03, 2008, 03:54:18 PM

Quote from: Lockdown on December 03, 2008, 01:58:02 PM

OK - I'm pretty much back in full-swing with LOTRO.  Of course, now I have the exact same problem I always have in MMO's.  I love the class I am playing until I group with another class and watch them do their stuff.  Which causes me to want to play their class.  Until I see another class do something awesome, which makes me want to play their class.  It's a never ending circle of "the grass is always greener" that I suffer from in no other aspect of my life other than choosing MMO character classes.  Seriously, just go ahead and add onto the pile of "You are a total nerd" tokens I am accumulating by my computer desk.

Also, now that I've had more time to spend with the Warden (currently lvl.18), I have come to the following conclusions:
1.  One of the most fun solo classes I've ever played in an MMO.
2.  Other than 'semi-tanking' and above average dps - he doesn't exactly offer the group anything special.  He is a "selfish" class in terms of group play.
3.  His gambit system offers more flexibility to the way he plays as he levels higher and gets more options.  In other words, he just gets more fun to play as time goes on.  He can "change" his role in a fight literally during the fight.  Pretty damn neat.
4.  He plays "fast".  I don't know how to explain this except to contrast it with something like the Loremaster.  The Warden wades in and just goes to work.  Bam-Bam-Bam-Gambit!  Bam-Bam-Gambit!  Bam-Bam-Bam-Gambit!  Great fun.

My Ward is up to lvl 23 and at lvl 22 you get a really kick ass DPS attack, it uses sword ,shield, sword, then i's a three hit combo attack for about 50 each hit. I can down most lvl 22s with a knock down spear, then a crit strike, then follow up with the 3 hit gambit. By that time they are mostly dead.

2563  Gaming / Multiplayer Madness (MMO or otherwise) / Re: LOTRO or Warhammer on: December 02, 2008, 05:39:42 PM
depth and variety of PvE content and places to adventure in, along with a generally helpful and relatively mature community. So for me, it's the place to be.

I agree with that statement about LoTR 100%. I would also add in that it has a better storyline and quests associated with the storyline, than any other MMO I have ever played. This is thanks in large part to the Book system. I love the fact that they still have a TON of more content they can add to the game. Rohan, Gondor, Mordor, all of that needs to be added and will probably take several expansions to do so.

Those lvl 50 items are nice. My guy is up tp lvl 17 now, so that 16 javelin would be good. Can you mail those in game or do we have to actually meet up?

Sounds good to me. I am wondering if Javelins are a woodworking skill or a weaponsmithing skill? If they are woodworking, I can make you javelins.  Well, if you were on Elemendril anyway.  tear

Fishing is just a hobby and AFIK the fish aren't really worth keeping. I think there was some player talk of making them at least modest food buff items (maybe equivalent of basic rations) so the hobby would have a little utilitarian value.

Can you see if you can make me a javelin for my 15 warden?

2568  Gaming / Multiplayer Madness (MMO or otherwise) / Re: LOTORO Volume 2: Mines of Moria (impressions/screens) on: November 21, 2008, 02:25:46 PM
The Warden can use just about every single handed melee weapon right away. In theory it's supposed to be best with Spears (javelin has its own separate slot for tossing), but I've not to Level 6 seen any spear-specific melee skills.

There is a Gambit I think is unlocked at 6 or 7 that looks like it is designed for a spear. But im not sure if it requires it. You have to hit the shield then attack combo, then the gambit activates.

What's your Warden's name? I will look you up tonight. I should be on a good bit after work.

Does anyone have a socket 939 Motherboard with a PCI Express slot laying around? I could trade you a PS3, PSP, DS, or Wii game for it. I found an Acer online for $38.00 but I would rather trade for one if someone out there has one they want to get rid of.

Anybody know a safe site to purchase cd-key online? The local store will not have the expansion until over 2 weeks from now so the only way for me to play before that is to install the new woltk client from worldofwarcraft site and then buy the cd-key online.

Can't you buy a digital copy directly from Blizzard?

Appears most of the channels are Sirius channels. Hair Nation in, Boneyard out. Lithium in, Lucy out, etc. We XM users will be getting a Punk/Ska channel back. Lost my XCountry but am interested in Outlaw Country and how it compares.

I'm not a huge country fan but I do listen to Outlaw Country quite a bit. They have some good DJs like Hillbilly Jim (yes the wrestler) and some Imus guy with a chick who whistles when she talks (think John McCain whistle times 10). They also have a show with Johny Knoxville on Saturdays sometimes. If you like Jerry Reid, Willy Nelson, Hank Williams Jr., etc.. then you should like Outlaw Country.

I had the play session with Turbine last night. I'm going to be writing a preview for you guys today. If there is anything you would like me to address let me know. I can confirm that the Donkeys do cost money. You also have to gain Reputation within Moria in order to buy one. Once you buy one you can use them anywhere, not just in Moria.

Hey guys I thought I would let you  know that Yellowking and I are going to be playing Mines of Moria with the game's developers tonight. Is there anything you guys want us to ask while we are playing? I think what they are going to do is give us pre-rolled high lvl toons and take us on a tour of all the new content. I would be happy to ask any questions that you guys have. It starts in a couple of hours so there's not a lot of time to think about it.

Un-fucking-believable how many ignorant people we have down here in Florida and Georgia who wouldn't even consider voting for Obama. (Hell, I've offended people just by telling them I'm voting for him!) McCain will take Georgia, no doubt about it.. probably Florida too, though it's still up in the air. I really wouldn't consider Georgia politics as a reflection of the general voting population. Has a Democrat ever won the state of Georgia?

Sony released patch 1.20 yesterday. The patch didn't list what was fixed, but I was able to play the game for 3 solid hours in a 16x16 room without crashing once. That would have never happened pre patch.

After reading through some of those suggestion threads I was able to improve my play a little bit. You can still get killed unexpectedly but that is the nature of the game.

Beast from 20,000 Fathom's
Day of the Triffids
Godzilla vs. Mothra

Right now though I'm sitting on pins and needles.  Cinemagic's survival is up in the air as dickhead Mel Karmazin, the new CEO dick of Sirius/XM is basically gutting XM to pieces.  If I ever met this guy in person I would sock him right in the mouth.  Over 80 XM employee's have already been canned.  The new combined channel list is supposed to be out the weekend of November 14th-16th.  I really don't know what is going to happen to Cinemagic.  If it goes, I'm cancelling.  Why?  Well, Cinemagic is all I listen to.  It's worth it.  You will not find something this unique on radio anywhere.

With the merger we were all lied to.  This was not a merger.  It was a take over and dismantling of XM  It was supposed to be a combining of like channels from each service and keeping what is unique.  What a mess.

Holy cow Starshifter you really love your cinemagic. Personally I think you are jumping the gun on the Mel Karmazin hate, wait until the new channel lineup is announced. I have a feeling Cinemagic will stay, what they intend to cut are the channels that are duplicates. No sense in having two all 60's channels.
