It's the basics, what I always do if there is no easy explanation as to what could be causing it.

I agree here. I have had this work when nothing else made sense.

2563  Non-Gaming / Hardware / Software Hell / Re: Phenom II not what AMD hoped? on: January 09, 2009, 08:28:37 PM
As far as I can tell from various benchmark sites, the i7 is about two to three times faster than the Phenom II and only about $50 more on the low end. The i7 is tough to beat.

looks like it's there, but i don't know what speeds to expect.

sweet.  holding around 280kb.  not great by comparison to normal speeds this way, but at least i'm not in the public server pool.

Lol, I would say they are getting hammered. Nothing like making an announcement at CES to get traffic. Good luck getting the DL to actually start, it keeps giving me a too busy error.

Vista is running smooth for me, so I think I'll just wait a bit.  Does anyone even have drivers ready for the W7 beta yet?

Nvidia claims on their site that Windows 7 will automatically DL their beta drivers. I'm hoping it does this for most hardware.

I am because I need to back up and reformat my main comp anyway. I'm hoping they post it for DL before I leave from work since my download speeds are much faster here than at home.

If Derrick Thomas gets in I would consider a trip to Canton. He helped make me both a Chiefs fan and a Bama fan.

I've been to the induction ceremony a couple of times (I live in Canton), it really is kind of boring. I would compare it to a college graduation ceremony, only with famous football stars and a lot of news people.

If you do go make sure you stick around for the Hall of Fame game on the Monday after. This is a cool event because you get to watch a pro football game on what is essentially a really nice high school football stadium. No matter where you sit you will be really close to the action. And if you are in the first 20 rows or so you will be closer than you can get anywhere in most stadiums.
2572  Non-Gaming / Hardware / Software Hell / Re: Pulled trigger new CPU - dont work on: January 08, 2009, 12:47:54 AM
My first thought is that it probably isnt your power supply. PCs dont require that much power to post, and yours wont even get that far. My guess is that you are having some sort of incompatibility, between the mobo, CPU, bios and perhaps RAM. As weird as this may sound try taking out all of your ram except one stick. Make sure the stick is in the primary ram slot. Then try rebooting and see what happens. Short of that I would make sure that the Bios you updated to supports the CPU you put in.

Is anything happening on Elendilmir with GT?

Blackjack and I are both on there. Look me up as Hanton. We're in separate guilds, but I like mine pretty well. It's a casual guild with friendly people who are usually willing to help out if they can. While its not a huge guild there is almost always someone on and at peak times there are usually several people on. Look me up in game if you need anything.

Hanton: lvl 47 Warden
Kiniki: lvl 10 Rune Keeper

Both on Elendilmir

I create new desktop icons and they don't appear. Other than that problem the PC works good. I can change my desktop background and that still doesn't make the icons reappear. Any ideas?

Thinking about giving it a whirl again from the start.

I started a newbie three weeks ago and I have never had a problem finding a group when I need it. In fact most groups fill up and if someone drops out it is usually pretty easy to find a replacement. Of course this may vary by server. But on Eledilmir it;s pretty easy.

Good news. The Mayor isn't dropping the case. I can only hope that since this happened to an elected official he can keep the heat on the cops. Cops need to reform their Drug War SWAT tactics and this kind of publicity is the only way it will happen.

Calvo, who said he's become increasingly concerned with the tactics officers employ in drug warrants, had also requested copies and reports from other searches the county has done in addition to his own.

Beyond the obvious paramilitary police BS that went on here, this case really shows that this sort of thing can happen to ANYONE and as a society we should not tolerate it. For some reason the Drug War has made it OK for our Police to dress up and act like commandos in a war zone and then treat the people they are supposed to protect as the "enemy". It's scary and un-American.

Hate to say it, but anti-aliasing isn't even there for them to enable. I'm with you on wishing Nintendo had included it.

Are you sure? I mean we have had AA technology going back to the freaking Geforce 256 (or whatever it was called) and the Voodoo 3. If ATI didn't even include it at all on their chip I would be surprised.

..."Ragile... it must be Italian", " I think that says Fragile"...

I am really considering going to the museum this year around Christmas time.

I was just there on Saturday. My Wife is really in to the movie and she loved it. You can take a tour of the house, there is a separate museum and a separate gift shop. The whole thing took about an hour to tour. I wouldn't recommend going to Cleveland just to see the house, but if you are in the area any way then it's a fun little stop. The odd part is that it is literally in the middle of a neighborhood. So it is surrounded by residential houses. And there is a bar/restaurant within 100 feet of the house. It's weird.
