2361  Non-Gaming / Off-Topic / Re: British people are ugly on: November 12, 2009, 04:55:59 PM

Quote from: Canuck on November 12, 2009, 03:28:40 AM

In the latest addition to stuff we already knew, a dating site for beautiful people concluded that Britons are among the ugliest in the world with only 1 in 8 men being accepted to the site and only 3 in 20 women!  Granted, Canadians didn't fare much better with only 23 and 24 percent respectively.  Apparently Norwegian women are pretty hot though.
Do any of our 'so ugly their mommas put a paper bag over their faces before kissing them' British members have any response? biggrin

I tried getting on that beautiful people web site to see who was getting accepted, but they blocked public access to it. I have the feeling that it is the type of thing that most people would be excluded from.
2362  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: What is the best name you've ever given to a game character? And why? on: November 11, 2009, 04:03:16 PM
Sometimes I will name my RPG characters after people on GT. I use Yellowking, Msduncan, CeeKay, Kightshade, etc. I really enjoy making Brett female characters.

The Glade girl?  Really?  The Progressive one I can see, as she bears a faint resemblance to Lauren Graham.  But Glade?  Nuh uh.

The problem, I think, is the word "girl." The Glade lady looks to be 40ish in that pic (never seen her on the TV so I don't know), whereas the Progressive girl -- whose name is clearly Flo -- is probably 25-30 (based again on the pic provided). Not really a fair contest. I would buy products from either of them, though. Or both of them at the same time.

I know Glade is air spray, but what's Progressive?

According to her IMDB progressive girl is almost 40.

I watched both this and the free UFC event. After watching both the one thing that really sticks out at me is that the Strikeforce announcer is really annoying. Not Frank Shamrock, the other one that puts on the entirely fake voice and over inflects everything. Good lord is he bad. Also the first Strikeforce fight was pretty lame, and the wrestling style entrances are corny. Other than that I enjoyed the Strikeforce event just as much as the UFC one.

played the demo, & was pretty satisfied with it. while the game takes a hit by having traditional anime-style (ie, non-cell-shaded) cutscenes, the gameplay sections are pretty true-to-form (if a bit stripped-down), & the controls work very well. again, i'm just happy they're doing anything to keep the franchise alive, &, as much as i'd've preferred a ps3 sequel, this looks & feels close enough to the original to be very acceptable to me - looking forward to the real deal smile ...

How much of a hit do the graphics and draw distance take?

The unfortunate truth of any major political race these days is that it's all about making your opponent look worse than you. Not making yourself look good. I blame the Clintons and Karl Rove, but I know they didn't invent it, they just perfected it.

Funny how the libertards are chastising brett for doing exactly what they did when Bush was in office.

And they'll know we are Christian by our love....

Never cared for that song.

Also, wash your finger before you point at my spots. At least I'm aware of my own hypocrisy unlike the the pillars of left-wing thought on this board.

Edit: Sorry to call you on it, btw.

When most of the left criticized Bush it was for things like: outing CIA agents, getting the nation in to an unnecessary war (and lying in the process), no bid contracts, having closed door secret energy meetings, squandering good will after 9/11, lowering taxes and raising spending, crushing the 4th, 5th, and 8th amendments, Guantanamo, torture, pandering to the religious right, etc. Not for skipping a memorial event in Germany.

Anyone willing to give up Demon's Souls yet? I have several PS3 and Wii games I could trade. Here's a list:

NHL 2K10
Mana Khemia 2 -PS2
Cross Edge
Phantom Brave: We Meet Again- Wii
Tenchu Stealth Assassins - The Wii one
Dead Space

I have more but I can't think of them all off the top of my head, ask if you don't see something you want.

I have a full review coming by weeks end. But I can still say that I haven't noticed any slow down at all in the single player version for the PS3. I think it auto installs on the PS3 too. So if you own the 360 version try installing it to see if that helps with the slow down.

Definitely give the show at least 3 episode to see if you like it. It really takes off about mid way through season 1. I really like the show.

I think my favorite part is that the vampires are actually pretty bad ass and could kill a normal human without much of a problem. Also we get a lot of TnA.

I didn't read the article, but am curious...

Is Skirmishing something a character can do at an early level, or is it for high level characters only?

The very little I have read makes it sound like a super idea.

From what I understand it is something that can be done by almost every lvl, the skirmish instances will scale to player lvl and number of players.

So far word of mouth is saying Live is the better game this year.  I am looking for a 3rd game for the Toys R Us Sale this week.  How do people like 2K10 and Live so far?

This is just my opinion I have played a ton of Live 10 online already pretty lag free I also rented 2k10 played 1 game online with it laggy almost every basket was scored in the paint it's going back to GF this week.
Also the 2kcam still stutters a little when the camera swings around changing ends.

I'm playing the PS3 version of 2K10 and I haven't noticed the camera stutter at all. I haven't tried an online game yet though, so I'm not sure if it is lag free on the PS3 or not.

Broken Steel is cool because it lets you keep playing after you beat the game and it adds 10 more levels to the cap. So if you already beat it then I would say definately get broken Steel and load up a save just prior to beating the game, then repeat the victory. Once you watch the end credits Broken Steel opens up and starts.

I don't buy it at all. ATi just launched their newest cards, which kill Nvidia's 200 series on the price for performance scale. But Nvidia is just around the corner with their next product line. It only makes sense that they would scale back the 200 line when the new line is getting ready to launch. The writer asserts that Nvidia doesn't have a new line coming any time soon, but I simply don't believe this.

Just because you wouldn't want it, doesn't mean other people wouldn't want it. If Harmonix were to do a once a year band-only game, and a once a year main engine game I would be very interested.

I'm gonna go ahead and predict that if they made a game with just Yes, REM, and Radiohead in it, the game would sell less than Beatles RB. WHich means there is no way in hell that they would ever make a game with just one of those bands in it.

It may be a bit premature to say this without finishing it, but Risen may be the best CRPG I have ever played. I like the British tough guy humor in the dialog (almost reminds me of the movie Snatch). I like the long drawn out melee battles with all the positioning, blocking, parrying, etc. I like that I got my ass handed to me by anything I tried to fight for the first 5 hours of playing. The world has been utterly believable in almost every detail. No loads between areas. Great character advancement with a big variety of things to learn. I like all the traps, secrets, and puzzles in the dungeons. Other than the cringe-worthy jump animation I can't think of anything I don't like about Risen.

Ultima Underworld, Gothic, and Arx Fatalis were my favorites before, but this has topped all of them so far. Unless something goes horribly wrong in the second half of the game, I may have found a new favorite CRPG.

That's good to hear, because that is my exact favorites list as well. Now I just need time to play the game.
