2361  Gaming / Multiplayer Madness (MMO or otherwise) / Re: LOTRO: Book 7 Update on: March 23, 2009, 07:32:34 PM
Well I got the new comp up and running and played all weekend. I really dig the added content. I know I'm probably starting to sound like a Turbine fanboy but I really do think they have a great game here and they sure as hell support it above and beyoind what some other MMO companies do.

Probably my favorite addition is a quest tracker. One complaint that some people had about the game was the vague quest directions. Now that complaint is gone since Turbine has added an optional quest tracker that will highlight areas of the map where you have quest objectives. It works a lot like the WoW quest helper plugin and I find it to be really helpful.

Yeah, I'm somewhat disappointed in the game so far (though still enjoying it) but I think Sheva's AI is quite competent.

I am enjoying the game thus far, but I find I am running into two issues:

1)  Sheva will, at times, stand there and do nothing.  My wife was watching me play and she said, "Is she ever going to shoot anything?"
2)  I keep running out of ammo.  I killed the chainsaw dude with my last bullet.  I then had to go through the next section with basically nothing and had to stab things to death (running through most of my health restorers) until I finally came into some ammo.  I wish you could buy it.

I found that if you buy the capacity upgrade, you get a full clip with it...but yeah it would be nice to be able to buy ammo.  I am also running really tight.

I use the clip upgrade trick too. I have also found that the knife is really effective against zombies that are trying to come in through windows. You can literally sit there and swing away while the Zombies keep coming back for more all the while you take 0 damage. Saves ammo that way.

If I could summarize my feelings for why this series isn't good it would be "Because I really don't care about any of the characters". With the exception Echo they are all reprehensible on some level and Echo is hard to care about because she changes every week and the one time she is the same she will no doubt say "Did I fall asleep". I hope ep 6 is better but I don't have much Faith.

Yeah im pretty sure it's the Pal version, but all versions are region free, so the DLC should work with it. Worst case scenario is you fake a PAL PSN account to get the DLC content.

I don't want to derail this thread, but what's different in this MMO than in others? I've played WoW and AoC, and found them pretty boring.
(I am however a pretty big fan of LotR).

Being a big fan of the books may be what's different for you. Turbine has created an extremely accurate recreation of the LoTR world. Everything from town location, roads, building location, etc is exactly where it should be. Even the side characters are where they should be. Butterbur is there, The Rangers are a big part of the story, Bill is there, etc. Also, the game follows a main storyline that you progress through, as well as an abundance of side quests.

I've played through chapter 2 entirely in co-op and I have to say that co-op play is outstanding. Still haven't tried single player yet. I will say the graphics are good but I don't think they are the best we have seen this gen. Metal Solid 4 still holds that crown for me.

I find it hard to believe that the Netherlands beat The Dominican Republic twice, but they did, I watched the second game it was an 11 inning defensive battle. The Netherlands won in the bottom of the 11th by a first base catching error that allowed the winning run to advance. It was pretty intense,

The model I'm currently looking at is the top of the line, looks like a machinegun and actually has a belt fed dart mechanism firing at about 3 darts a second.  Oh, and it's held Jessie Ventura style.  I'm actually considering getting it and a lot of extra belts and darts (via nerf's handy parts and supplies shop) for some terminator chaingun action.  Even thinking about loading the belts with 1 out of 3 being screamer darts, which have that whistling effect.

My 10 year old son has the one you are talking about. I have to admit that it is pretty awesome. That thing throws darts like crazy. The only bad part about it is that it takes 6 D batteries to power it. It's also kind of heavy for a 10 year old but he doesn't seem to mind. Good stuff.

Most definitely check this one out. From what I can tell it is a remake of the first game with all kinds of new stuff thrown in. You may want to be familiar with the Riddick Universe before you fire it up, but it's not a must. If you have the collectors edition of Pitch Black there is a cool bonus storyline thing that sheds light into events before and after the game.

I'm all for more mature games on the Wii, but I've seen a couple of previews for Madworld now, and it looks kind of...boring. Once you get past the "ohmigodlookatallthatblood" there doesn't look to be much game there. You seem to run around aimlessly in a contained environment just killing guys over and over again. Hopefully I'm wrong because the Wii could use a good core gamer title to get the ball rolling.

X-Play had a video preview of the game on Monday and I didn't come away very impressed. It looked like a below average beat-em up with unique graphics. I hope I am wrong.

Yeah it was kinda slow, but again if you look at it as the lull just after the HUGE storm, it does make sense.  I think have just about had enough of Emo-Starbuck tho...I am ready to move on.  I guess I can't go far though with 3 eps left.

As for a battle- remember, one jump and Galactica is toast...but with Hera kidnapped...I think we are getting ready for a big old fight.

I am assuming it will all end *well* but that being a very relative term.  Still way better than most shows and really it is a fun show to watch.

Here's my question. Did Boomer actually make the jump or did she hit the side of the ship and explode? I thought she exploded. I didn't watch next weeks previews though so they may have showed more.

They could always go with a younger Hal Jordan. Which is probably what they will do. Kyle Rayner pisses off the GL purists to no end. I personally like Kyle Rayner and his style of using the ring, but a lot of the GL fans hated what they did to Hal and how they vilified him.

Got the names mixed up I guess Alex was Kyle's girlfriend, my bad

Just a big filler episode with nothing exciting happening. And as others have pointed out, Adama making a really stupid out of character decision.

Short of the XM radio channels that DirecTV has included, no. But I have to wonder how you can screw up something that you would consider to be relatively simple. They had a monopoly on Satellite radio. With the basic idea that you would get all the good radio songs without the commercials and stupid DJs. But from what I am reading now, when Sirius and XM merged, Sirius nuked all the original good XM channels and now you have ads seeping there way in to the channel lineup which has short playlists and DJs all the time.

With the bailout the guy that caused all these issues for people is keeping his job and paying Howard Sterns and Co. 100m a year.

Reading that post I can tell you don't have Sirius or XM and haven't listened to it for more than 5 minutes if ever.
1: There are absolutely NO commercials on the music channels.
2: I really can't say that any of the DJ's suck because they hardly ever talk and when they do they mostly introduce the songs. Per hour I would guess the DJs talk less than 5 minutes on any given music channel.
3: The short play list. I see this complaint a lot, and it's true if all you do is listen to the 1960's rock channel that only plays 1960's rock you will have a limited play list. But the thing is, there are 60 other freaking music channels that play all kinds of different music 24/7.
4: The guy: Mel Karmizan is the guy and he arguably saved satellite radio. Both Sirius and XM were bleeding money and in the red. If the merge hadn't gone through it is very likely that XM would have gone belly up with Sirius right behind it. Now that they have merged their operating costs are WAY down and they are actually operating in the black right now. On top of that their next biggest problem was their debt, which it looks like he just solved that problem too. So how can anyone say Mel Karmizan is doing a bad job?
5: Howard Stern: When Howard signed with Sirius they had about 200,000 subscribers. just one year after he signed they had 3 million and 2 years after that just prior to the merger they had 8 million. You tell me who else in radio could have garnered that many subscribers?

Spoiler for Hiden:
The dumbass is in the US illegally, he abducts the president's husband, and then he has the nerve to have an American girlfriend who has his cell phone number. Not only that he uses her address to route bank funds, basically giving the feds a big stinking glowing red arrow pointing right to him. Dumb ass. On top of that he has the nerve to just walk around town after kidnapping the Presdient's husband. If the President was using her brain she would have issued a state, local and fed manhunt for the dumb ass as soon as she knew he stole the CIP device. Also, Jack has Duboku's cell phone number, can't they use that as a starting point to track his cell phone location via satellite?

I saw it yesterday. If you're a fan of Friday the 13th (as I am) or slasher flicks in general then this one fits the bill. Tons of killing (I counted 13 by Jason alone), tons of nudity for no other reason than to have nudity. A bunch of early 20 year olds who you know will eventually get killed. The formula was classic.

I wouldn't say it is a remake though. It is more of a continuation of the movies after part 2. You have to pretend like parts 3-10 never happened. At the beginning of the movie parts 1 and 2 are summed up real quick and bam it's on to this one. Zombie Jason is gone and instead we get a more human, yet still super natural hulking and unstoppable Jason with a little bit more intelligence than past Jasons.

All in all I really liked it and it was the best Friday the 13th to come out in a long time.

When your competition is free, what do you expect?

Yeah but going back to the competition after having satellite is like going back to dial up after having DSL, it is painful. Sirius will make it through the year one wa or another, there are talks of a hostile take over though and that may shake things up. But 20 million or so subscriptions will keep it afloat.
