2361  Non-Gaming / Trading Forum / LTB Geforce 8800GT on: January 26, 2009, 08:28:04 PM
I'm looking for a Geforce 8800GT to pair with my existing card. Does anyone out there have a spare one they want to unload. Right now I have the vanilla XFX Geforce 8800GT 512 Mb version. Any manufacturer should do though as long as it is the same chip set.

It sounds like my worst fears for the co-op gameplay may be true. I loved RE 4, but If I had to babysit a brain dead AI team mate the entire time, the game would have been ruined. I hope the team mate isn't annoying.

How do we think we'd do this? Open up discussion on a particular section at a time so people don't have to worry about getting spoiled?

Ah...I was thinking one thread per game, but I hadn't considered the issue of spoilers.

One thread per game section would be one way to do it, but I wonder if that would fracture the discussion so much that it would be hard to follow, and it would clutter up the forums.

A couple of other ideas...

  • Have only one thread, but ask people to mark things with spoilers.
  • Have two threads, one for general impressions and discussion, and another thread for plot/story spoiler elements.

I'd lean toward the simpler one thread plan, and ask people to take care to use spoiler tags with direct spoilers. To a certain degree, I'd expect that it will be impossible to prevent some foreknowledge from coming out in even general discussions about the game, but I'd imagine we could still talk about the game and avoid ruining the game for people. At certain points, we might ever "release" the spoiler restrictions on earlier segments of the game. For example, after the second week, we could not worry about spoiler tags for the first 10 levels of a game, or the 30% of the story, or whatever. If that doesn't work, we could try something else the second game.

I'm open to other ideas and feedback, though. As I was writing the first post up, I stumbled onto a small web community that was doing something similar to this. I'll see if I can find that again and learn what they did about handling spoilers.

I would go with one thread and use the hide spoiler function. These games are all old though and most people will have a clue as to what will happen with the story.

Anybody know what the resolutions are for BGE?  I would play it on my Eee PC if I could.  I voted for Deus Ex cause i've never finished it and I think it would play on my EEE pc.

I believe it goes down to 640x480 and has standard resolutions from there. The PC version is essentially a console port.

I'm down for any of these games. Although I voted for BG&E, because I just got in a trade on the PS2 and I never finished it the first time I played it. I got hit with a gamestoping PC bug near the end and never went back.

2367  Gaming / Analog Gaming / Re: Game of the Month Club? on: January 23, 2009, 09:14:05 PM
Why don't you cross post this over in Console gaming and pick a couple of multiplatform games to post on a poll. We then let the people vote on what the game of the month in February will be. For example you could give the option of, Beyond Good and Evil, Resident Evil 4, The Darkness, Tomb Raider Anniversary. These are all multiplatform and that way no matter which one wins people will be able to play the winning game.

Unless the quest is to unlock a skill for your class or get a cool appearance item, the only reason to do a grey quest is for the do N quests in a zone deeds.

Yeah I would agree, the only real reason to do grey quests is for Deed work or loot drops.

Well, I've been playing for a little over a week now and have to say I'm completely in love with this game!! The storyline and the locations are what really hit this one home for me; everything is exactly where it should be geographically and the look is just perfect.  I played a few different characters and settled on a level 18 Champion on the roleplaying server.  I'm not sure how many characters I will level up, but I'm going to at least take this one up to 60 and enjoy the ride.  I find myself not much caring about levels right now... I'm just enjoying doing all the quests and deeds that are available.

Of note, I've never played an MMO with a more mature playerbase than this one.  Never a problem finding help with quests or people being asses.  It's a nice change.

The player base is definitely a huge improvement over WoW. Rarely have I been pissed at another player in this game. Most of the time people go out of their way to be friendly, not steal a kill, help out, etc. It's a nice change of pace.

+1

It's called Terminator 3 and stars Arnold. How can it be anything but "official". And it was a worthy sequel. Not as good as Judgement Day, but still pretty damn entertaining.

I could be wrong here, but I thought I read that the new Terminator movies in production are working around T3, also there is no denying that the TV show completely disregards T3 (and is superior IMO).

OK...need some advice from those who've pushed through the majority of Middle Earth. Where would you go to quest alone from 35-40?

Would Fornost City have any soloable quests? What about Evendim?

I'm currently level 34, soloed just about everything I can around Bree-land, the North Downs, and the Lone-Lands, plus would like to stay in the general area at least until I have a mount to make long trips more tolerable. I'm on Brandywine, so the population is high enough that I never have an issues finding a fellowship for the huge amount of group quests I have...but I just don't always have enough time to really commit to a fellowship and hate to bail on one after a 1/2 hour in the midst of some huge battle...makes me feel dirty.

There are some great quests for you in Evindim. Make sure to grab Reforging the Sword from Aragorn in Rivendale. This is a long quest line that mostly takes place in Evindim. You can also find soloable stuff in the Trollshaws. So Evindim and Trollshaws.

First of all throw out part 3, it is being written off as not being official cannon.

questions 1 and 2 are answered in the TV series. There are several ways to incapacitate the various terminators and reprogram them.

3. I like bacon.

4. I assume they made it through because they took on human forms, and the skin was real enough to pass through.

5. Pay no attention to T3.

Remember when Superman came back, they used the lame excuse that his coffin contained an opening that allowed the sun to come in and heal him over time.

That's not what happened at all. When Superman died, the Kryptonian artifact known as the Eradicator decided to continue Superman's work. Since the Eradicator is blinded by bright light, it stole Superman's body, and placed him inside what was basically a giant Kryptonian birthing matrix (the same sort of device that originally transported Kal-El to Earth). The matrix channeled sunlight energy through Superman, and converted it to a form that the Eradicator could absorb to become one of the four leads in "Reign of the Supermen." At the same time, it was effectively like electro-shocking Superman to "reboot" him -- combined with the stored solar enregy in his cells this ended up having an effect like shocking a patient who's heart has stopped -- it reanimated him.

Yes, it's still sci-fi silly, but nothing along the lines of "the lid wasn't closed on his coffin."

Umm, isn't that what I said, but in a much less nerdier fashion.

Just want to mention that I switched over to Windows 7 this weekend and LOTRO runs so much better it's amazing.  Coming from XP I not only get 15-20fps more (with the same settings) but I also get the benefit of the directx 10 enhancements (Windows 7 comes with directx 11) and it loads quicker.  I've never gotten 60 fps in Bree before with every option on highest or next to highest (except for shadows which look amazing at medium).  I have it locked at 60 but before it was locked I was looking at 90-120 fps in the starting areas.

Putting some more time in now that I have a 80 and a 79 in WoW...I WILL hit Moria one day.

I switched over from XP too, my problem is that when I run the game on my 4:3 monitor the game dsiplays in 16:9, with the black bars at the top and bottom. If I select auto size, 4:3, or 16:9 it it doesn't change anything. Any ideas? I'm running a Geforce 8800gt with the updated nvidia driver from windows update.

It amazes me when a conservative shouts up and down about protecting the 2nd Amendment, but at the same time will think that this was a good decision. The entire Constitution needs protected in my opinion. I truly do not understand why some people think the Police should be able to do whatever they want. wait.. PeteRock is going to be the new Batman?

as for Bats being back, I'm not so sure.  there was a pretty big build-up to this (including Batman actually having a heart attack, showing his age could be catching up with him) and they have a big event coming up called 'The Battle for the Cowl' which involves both Batman and Detective comics going on hiatus for a few months plus the ending of the Birds of Prey, Robin and Nightwing standalone series.

then again they are bringing the Barry Allen Flash back from the dead after all these years, so who knows?

Bringing Barry Allen back pisses me off. He used to be the one guy who actually stayed dead and died in a cool way. Besides that Wally West really did become the Flash to me and wasn't just a replacement. I'm glad I stopped reading comics 4 years ago.
2379  Non-Gaming / Off-Topic / Re: Where were you the day Batman....(spoiler) on: January 15, 2009, 02:36:35 PM
Agreed with most of the above. There is no way he will stay dead. Besides this is mostly a repeat from the 90's when he broke his back and they had to go through the whole Batman's replacement storyline. Will Nightwing be Batman, if not him then who? blah blah blah.

Remember when Superman came back, they used the lame excuse that his coffin contained an opening that allowed the sun to come in and heal him over time. Then there is Hal Jordan, Steve Rogers, Green Arrow, the list goes on.

2nd i will be mostly solo so 1 class from each to play.

Any help appreciated.

Theyre both pretty much the same, it just depends if you want to be good or bad, but each side has their own zones, areas, and missions.

If you go hero I would recommend being a tanker. CoH requires grouping in a lot of cases in order to make the missions work and be more fun, but you can solo a tank fairly well.

If you do go make sure you stick around for the Hall of Fame game on the Monday after. This is a cool event because you get to watch a pro football game on what is essentially a really nice high school football stadium. No matter where you sit you will be really close to the action. And if you are in the first 20 rows or so you will be closer than you can get anywhere in most stadiums.

My first thought is that it probably isnt your power supply. PCs dont require that much power to post, and yours wont even get that far. My guess is that you are having some sort of incompatibility, between the mobo, CPU, bios and perhaps RAM. As weird as this may sound try taking out all of your ram except one stick. Make sure the stick is in the primary ram slot. Then try rebooting and see what happens. Short of that I would make sure that the Bios you updated to supports the CPU you put in.
