With a few exceptions, the RPG sweet-spot for me is 30-35 hours.  Unless it's something really amazing (i.e. most Final Fantasy games), I tend to lose interest after that.  Doesn't help that most RPG's are very front-loaded, so the endgame ends up feeling either incredibly dull or ridiculously difficult.  Lost Odyssey was the worst offender of this in recent memory.

I would vote for The Last Remnant.

I will say that 35-40 is my sweet spot. Anything longer and I start to get the "Wrap it up" feeling going on. Even FF12 had this for me somewhat. That stupid tower at the end was way too long, it just felt like an excuse to grind your team up in level prior to the final boss.

Anyways, the California Supreme Court upheld the ban, and those who did managed to get married during that time frome are still married.

While I disagree with the ban, the court made the right decision, as I just cant imagine how they could deem a constitutional amendment as unconstitutional.

They couldn't, but chances are someone will file a federal case saying it is against the US constitution.

Scraper, I guess I forgot to mention I suck at fighting games, even though I love them. I can't get a combo going at all!

Try using Sagat, his combos and powers are the easiest to use IMO. If you can't pull of his knee or uppercut try using the D-pad instead of the analog stick or vice versa.

I played Lord of the Rings Online (as usual) and I also played through two chapters of Dead Space, what a great game to show off why surround sound is important. Who ever worked on the sound and coding the surround elements deserves an award.

I don't find Seth to be all that hard. You just have to keep on him and don't let up. Generally he will throw a low punch to begin with so as soon as the fight starts jump towards him and pull of a combo. Then from there don't let up, works for me 90% of the time.

But billions of years isn't right either.

I attended the public portion of the ASU Origins Symposium back in April. One of the best talks was by Lawrence Krauss (a theoretical physicist known for among other things as the author of The Physics of Star Trek). He explains how we know that the Universe is 13.72 Billion years old. He's an entertaining speaker. Watch the video. Provide your counter evidence.

I didn't watch that video (it's 50 mins long) but my understanding of the 13 billion number is based off of magnesium (I think it's magnesium) and its rate at which it converts into another element. It takes a REALLY long time, and thus they can take a sample from a rock, figure out what percent has changed and then figure out how long it has been around based on the percent that has changed.

2330  Non-Gaming / Hardware / Software Hell / Re: External Hard Drive for my PS 3.. What is the best..? on: May 22, 2009, 02:19:36 PM
I didn't even know they made external hard drives for the PS3. I know you can add just about any internal laptop Hard Drive to it, but you have to replace the existing drive. I guess theoretically you could add an external USB hard to it, but I don't know how that would work. My guess would be that it would act just like a USB memory stick, only a lot larger.

If you add an internal drive, just get the largest one you can afford.

Don't they use the Old Testament and the tracing of Adam's lineage and then couple that with something else that was written to come up with Earth being created around 4000 BC? I'm not trying to be a smart ass, but I do know that some Christians do use written texts to come up with the Earths age, I'm just not sure which texts and passages they use to do it.

Yes Tyson is beatable. The hard thing about him is that he knocks you out if you get hit twice. One hit you get knocked down, but can get up, two and it's lights out.

- I agree with Battletoads, that game is hard.
- I agree on Contra if there is no cheat code.

- I don't agree that Ninja Gaiden should be on the list. That game was all about timing. If you got the timing down then you could beat the game without dying. I know this because  I did. I doubt I could do it now, because I'm old and my skills aren't as good. But it can be done.

It's more likely that his franchise agreement is being taken away and he cannot sell dodges anymore. If he wanted to he could probably try and get a franchise agreement from another manufacturer. I highly doubt that they are going to keep his store open and just give it to a new owner. Under Bankruptcy law the business has the ability to terminate contracts that they have. So in this case his franchise contract is being terminated not given away to a new party.

Speaking of the addon campaigns...

Is this something I should download right away, before I get too far into the game, or doesn't it really matter?

also...  I'm a bit of a rookie when it comes to DLC on the ps3.  Is it something I have to pay for, or is it free?

1. Both addons take place outside of the main storyline, so you can play the game, then go and play the addon stuff. They both relate to the main story, but they aren't essential.

2. The Valkyrie addon stuff does cost $4.99 per addon. There are tons of other stuff on the PSN that are free though. For instance Sony just released a free vehicle pack for Motorstorm.

Hey!  I finally grabbed this.  I'm not too far in yet (somewhere in Chapter 2) - but I LOVE it!

I have a habit of skipping over threads in here that I think won't interest me.  I need to stop doing that.  Another example of a game I would have never in a million years even looked at if it wasn't for GT.

Thanks guys!

I think this is actually our second long thread on the game too. It's solid. One thing that surprised me about it was the game's length. I thought it would be a relatively short game maybe around 15 hours, but there is a whole lot more than that. Plus Sega released two PSN addon campaigns.

Yeah, I have room for a gem, but I'd rather save that slot until I get a level 5 or 6 gem to use on it. At the moment I haven't got any gems above level 2, I think, which just isn't good enough to even consider using as a temporary buff. I want the freedom to add a more powerful gem in there without losing one I've already placed. Relics are hard enough to build up to a suitable level as it is.

When it hits lvls 10/20/30/40 you can unslot all the relics and reuse them however you want. So in theory you have 4 more lvls in which you can use the lvl 2, then unlsot it when you hit 30. You wont waste a thing.

I'm having trouble thinking of exclusives, but I would back up the recommendations for Psychonauts and Beyond Good and Evil. Both PC versions are superior versions because of the increased graphics. Maybe try looking through Steam's catalog there may be some in there.

2347  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: F.E.A.R. - Worth Playing? on: May 13, 2009, 02:42:14 PM
For me the first 2 chapters were great, the middle chapters were tedious, repetitive and boring, and the last two chapters were great. So if you can get through the middle portion of the game then you should enjoy it overall. But yeah, office hallway, after office hallway. after office hallway kills the middle portion of the game.

Nice coincidence. I hit level 60 this weekend too. The last two levels were spent entirely in Lothlorien, and I still have lots of stuff to do there. I'm almost starting to look forward to heading back into Moria to kick the collective asses of anything that threatened me there before.

Interestingly, I don't own a single legendary weapon at this point. I just haven't found anything I felt was good enough to focus on, and my old weapons both became outdated and were melted down. I now have about 230 000 item xp waiting for my next weapon. smile

You do realize that the legendary weapons lvl up and become much stronger pretty quickly. I haven't used a regular weapon since about lvl 47, none of them hold a candle to legendary weapons. They have all kinds of stat boosts, especially once you start lvling up your runes to slot.

I hit 60 over the weekend with my first character. I'm now one of the few lvl 60 Wardens.

I will probably start up a new toon soon. The ride to 60 was really rewarding and I can honestly say that this was the first time I hit lvl cap in a game and I didn't feel like I was grinding just to get there. I actually wanted the lvl to hold off because there is so much more left to do. I still have to gather my various deeds, collect reputation, finish books 1.10. on up and so on. I figure there is enough to keep me busy with this toon on and off until the next major expansion comes out.

If I was a mumorpuger game developer I'd provide reviewers with game characters at starter levels, mid levels, and end-game levels so that they could get an idea of what the entire game has to offer without investing hundreds of hours.

The funny thing is, if you ask them to do that they will. I know at the very least Turbine does.

The only MMO review I have ever written was for LoTRO Mines of Moria (Awesome game by the way) and I played that game for almost 6 weeks before I wrote the review. Even then I felt like I was missing key parts of the game. So 9 hours is no where near enough time to judge an MMO in my opinion, let alone 2 hours.

One thing I've liked in Battle for the Cowl is that they've made mention of Comic Book Death Syndrome. Dick and Alfred have discussed how Tim seems to not be coping with Bruce's death, and they theorize that it's because he's seen so many people die (Superman, Green Lantern, Green Arrow, etc) and come back from that death that he no longer thinks of death as a finality.

It could also be that Tim has already seen this exact F'ing storyline before, except he broke his back instead of getting hit by a death ray. Still it's the same damn storyline from a little over 15 years ago.
