2282  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Cross Edge Review on: July 02, 2009, 03:36:07 PM
Our cross Edge review is up right here. This was a tough game to review, but people who like deep RPGs should at least read the review to see if they might enjoy Cross Edge. It's a tough one because the game is very polarizing and some people will no doubt think it's the worst RPG on the PS3 while others will probably really get into it.
2283  Gaming / Multiplayer Madness (MMO or otherwise) / Re: LotRO 2.8 interview on: June 29, 2009, 12:33:47 AM
As a side note, Im typically not a crafter in MMOs either, but LotRO does something right that makes crafting worth while. I cant really put my finger on it, but crafting in LotRO is not boring and can be done so long as you pay attention to what materials you need and collect them along your way.

I tried picking up my level 32 Champion again the other night after a few months off, and after that I felt like I didn't have a reason to play the game again.  Almost all of the quests I have are for groups or are far below my level, and trying to do them was just frustrating and slow (if not downright impossible).

That is my highest level character that I've ever gotten, but I almost just felt like starting over since I didn't even know where to go or what to do.  Is there somewhere specific I should be going at that level?  I feel like I've kind of run into a wall, and it is the same wall I hit in the mid 20's many months ago before they made leveling easier and added more quests.  I tend to do mostly solo stuff and I'm not a big fan of pickup groups.

I would suggest making the trip to Rivendale to talk to Aragorn. Once there he will give you a quest to recover the fragments for his sword. This quest is a lengthy mulipart quest that will take you through Evendim. Most of it can be completed solo and along the way you can pick up other quests around the lake.

A friend and I are thinking about getting back into LotRO and we're looking for a good duo that would allow us to experience a lot of the game's content with minimal additional grouping. Any suggestions? The best thing I see suggested is pretty much a Minstrel and just about anybody else, but I'm curious what you all know.
If you guys ever need a hand, just let me know. We can do some of the brutal 3 person instances.  icon_razz Most of my characters are on Elindilmir, Elendilmir, whatever (which I never spell correctly), but if you're starting over, any server's good.

I'm on Lifetime subscription but I haven't played in months, and just found it harder than I remember to get pickup groups going (my guild sort of ran out of steam and a lot of the members were in drastically different timezones to begin with), but I say that about everything. In fact, everyone says that about every MMO now.  icon_razz

I'm sure all sorts of duo-makeups work well, just don't forget to play something you and your friend each enjoy. If you force yourself into classes you don't enjoy playing (but that "duo" well), you may lose interest in the long run. And often two of the same class can be a pretty fun and efficient duo.

Blackjack, if you are looking to get back into it with the 2.7 and 2.8 stuff then look me up in game, my guild is still going strong. In fact we have group events planned for each weekend. This weekend is the 12 person turtle raid. Anyway I am an officer so I can shoot anyone an invite. It's the Elendilmor server Im hanton in game. I will be on raiding tonight.

With two players I would go with 1 tank and 1 healer, so you would need a Mini or Rune Keeper for the healer and a Guardian, Captain or Warden for the tank. RKs and Wardens are also very solo friendly.

I realize now that we must've gone online already with it, because we downloaded something, I think Dr. Mario. But if you want to play with someone online, you still have to exchange those ridiculously long Friends codes, no?

For most games the friend code is only if you want to play with friends. And yes friend codes are ridiculous, I still dont even know how to find mine and I have had the Wii since launch. But most games will simply connect you to  a lobby and you can play with people all over the Webz that way. No friend code required.

I have a Wii, but no clue how (or desire) to go online with it.  Though that game does sound interesting, I'd likely go single-player only.

In the article though, is one point, which I'm praying will become industry standard someday, and the sooner the better, for me!

Quote
The Conduit makes good on its potential by enabling you the option to fully tweak your controls to your liking, setting horizontal and vertical sensitivity, dead zone, turn speed, running speed, HUD layout and transparency, and more. You can fiddle with the settings until you create the perfect control scheme for your preference, and all of your modifications will be seen in real-time as you play the title, which is a pretty amazing feat. As a result, you will inevitably discover a configuration that makes playing the game very, very fun because you'll be able to reliably target and shoot down enemies without wrestling with a setup that you're not comfortable with. It's such a simple inclusion, but it makes all the difference, and you can bet it's going to be copied endlessly.

Please, Number One, Make it So!   nod

The Wii is really easy to go online with as long as you have a wireless router. Just run through the internet connections setup wizard in the settings area of the Wii dashboard. Easy.

I don't want to be condescending, but I bet you can think of examples quicker than Ridah posts them. Abu Ghraib, extraordinary rendition, Contras, Vietnam, etc.

But it is never internal, and a lot of times is brutal using a proxy so as to keep the US's hands clean.

Japanese internment camps were internal.

okay, I dont know how to put this without causing offense, but...come on!!!

Its the regime of one of the most totalitarian controlled people in the world thats doing this, not the normal citizens. They live in fear and are information controlled like you wouldnt believe it.

A friend of mine was there a two years ago..or rather, he was allowed in on one of their special guided tours, with guides who smiled, and answered almost every question with what was an obvious lie about their country, because they had been taught to do so... Its a strange country, but one where the idea of Big Brother is very real and part of everyones normal way of living.

So, please....dont talk about killing off an entire nation, when its merely its insane leaders that acts like this

Thats the equivalent of wiping out East Berlin before the wall fell...

That's why I said beyond the obvious humanitarian reasons. My question is more of a hypothetical, if we use nukes on North Korea will that alone cause China/Russia to declare war and plunge us into WW3 or could they care less about NK. Obviously China wouldn't want a US controlled state on their border, but are there any other political reasons?
2292  Non-Gaming / Political / Religious Nonsense / Re: The North Korean threat on: June 18, 2009, 07:46:58 PM
An honest question here, if we bombed the hell out of North Korea and completely crippled them, would anyone even care? (Other than for humanitarian reasons) What do they have to offer to other countries to get them to fight back against us? There's no oil, no diamonds, no industry, nothing. Would Russia or China really care? My guess is if they did preten to care, they would just be using it as an excuse to fight us.

I played 3 rounds of solo play and one round online last night.

1. The new controls are better than previous versions.
2. For the first time you can actually control how much power your shot gets by how hard you swing. I noticed that by my 3rd game in a row I was getting tired and as a result my swings were getting less power, that is  unless I actually focused and put more power into it. To me this is cool.
3. Putting is hard, but again for the first time you actually control how much power you give the shot based on your swing, so just like real golf you have to think about the shot and practice.
4. Chipping is hard, and I almost want to say it is broken but I haven't put in enough time to make that determination (I may just suck).
5. The game is much harder this year on PGA tour mode. Your toon starts out weak. My first tourney I finished 12 over after 18 holes. (This has never happened to me in a Tiger Woods game). But when I played a round with Tiger I was back to shooting par and birdie, so the game does help you if you use a good character.
6. I think there are 27 courses. HUGE.

I will be trying to play as much as possible in the next couple of days so I can do a full review on the front page.

It's funny, because I found the chipping to be pretty easy.  I had a couple of chip-ins in one hole.

You're asolutely right about starting weak.  I made the mistake of starting a tour right off the bat. I'm going to have to tackle a couple of non-tour modes and beef up my character before going back.  I don't like finishing in 40th place.

What's your secret to chipping then, because I muffed every single one, they were all too short.

Crackdown 2.  Forza 3.  Shit yeah!

It'll be interesting to see if Nintendo or Sony can top this press conference.

I would say that Sony and Nintendo should be able to top that since a lot of the games shown are multiplatform. Yeah they have Crackdown, Forza and the Halo game, but other than just about all the good stuff could be shown by Sony too. I kept watching it and thinking that they have to come up with something more that is just Xbox, but they really didn't. And no the camera doesn't count, that is their reaction to motion controls and it looks REALLY gimmicky. To me winning E3 is about "What do I have to offer that others don't" and the 360 didn't bring it this year for me. Of course we will have to wait for Nintendo and Sony to see what they offer before any real evaluation can be done.

Well, to be fair, the exclusives look more like this: Crackdown 2, Forza 3, Halo ODST and Reach, Splinter Cell: Conviction, Left 4 Dead 2, Alan Wake and some other/XBLA stuff.  Not to mention the streaming 1080p movies, On Demand 360 games, and Last.fm and Facebook integration (cool and bleah).

I thought Alan Wake and Splinter Cell were both multiplatform? As far as L4D2 I will get that on the PC. Facebook and it's kin are all a huge BLAH for me. The streaming movies would be cool, but my DSL is so slow there is no way it would be streaming for me and I bet a large percentage of the population will have the same problem. So I stick with solid media.
