Question: Can you buy the legendary tome books? I don't know who the Guardian should get those from. Those are the books to earn some of the legendary traits from. My increasingly outdated strategy guide says they're from an "Elven Guardian" or something but gives no clue on where.

Yes you can buy them. They typically drop from humanoid creatures lvl 40 and above, but your best bet is to buy them, because once you have them you still have to collect 8 missing pages from each of them.

This does explain why when I team with a high level warden, I'm sometimes yelling, "Hey, wait for me!!!"  icon_razz

Wards have 25% run speed out of combat and they also have ports to several major locations. The only thing Hunters have on them is the group port ability.

If you read the police report it states that Gates was arrested for causing a commotion outside of his home for the view of his neighbors and other police. The problem with this is that it was the officer who admits that he told Gates to come outside of his home after Gates was already yelling inside the home. So  in effect the officer definitely contributed to Gates being arrested. If the police would have just left after being satisfied that Gates was the home owner, none of this would have happened. And yes the officer admits that very early on in the incident he knew that Gates was the homeowner. It should have ended right there.

A few of my friends are police officers, and asking the person to step outside is often normal protocol in situations such as this. Step 1 is verification of identity, and step 2 is to ascertain if the homeowner is actually "under duress" because the criminal may be in the house holding a family member at gunpoint, or pointing a gun at the homeowner from a location that is out of the officer's immediate perspective.

Do you really think it would have gone this far if the homeowner was courteous and allowed the police to check the home for intruders? Rolling up on the scene, they are under the impression this may be a life threatening situation for all involved.

Two years ago I worked on second shift. After returning home I would go jogging at about 1AM. One evening while jogging down the sidewalk near my home, a cop rolls up and asks to see my identification. Now, I could have blown up and said I'm doing nothing wrong, I live two blocks from here, where were you the last 30 times I jogged through this same area. Instead I stopped and gave him my ID.

He looks at me and says "kind of late to be running around the neighbor hood, isn't it?"  Again, I could have shot my mouth off and probably ended up in a bad situation. Instead I simply said that I work second shift and run after work to release the day's tension. The cop smirked and said "I'd need to jog 20 miles to work off my tension." I got my license back, he told me to be safe, and I was on my way.

Bottom line- show a little respect and strange and wonderful things happen.

Yeah I completely agree that Gates acted like an asshole and if he hadn't none of this would have happened. Still, the police have to be thick skinned.

I think they are going to break Mirkwood up into southern and northern areas, so we may not get all of Mirkwood this year, but I would bet that we get a sizable portion.

I'm not convinced overt racism was involved.  But Gates learned that "contempt of cop" is de facto illegal, if not de jure illegal.  That's something people of every color find out.

The cop was stupid, however you choose to define that word, for arresting him under those circumstances for that.

Agreed.  This seems like a case of two douchebags being douchebags (cop and professor).  I'm certain race played a part, but I'm also certain that their levels of douche played a much larger part.

Two lessons should be learned here.

Douche A - If you are being a douche as well, perhaps it's not a wise decision to arrest the guy.
Douche B - DONT YELL AT COPS.  Nothing good comes from that, moron.

gellar

I agree here, it only took one of them to have a cool head to end this. Apparently neither one did. Dumbass professor could have been calm and cool instead of immediately going to the race card and officer could have been level headed and just left after he found out that the prof was the home owner and there was no break in. Instead cop tells prof to step outside and the situation escalates.

Better yet, do as many quests as you can in Bree and head directly for North Downs. The Lone-lands is widely regarded as one of the most boring zones in the game, which means it's a good thing they're giving it a second look (actually, I seem to recall they already changed it a bit soon after launch, which makes this their third attempt). North Downs on the other hand is one of the most fun zones in the game. The difference is huge.

I would but both the Epic and Class quests are forcing me there right now. Once I get there and see all those shiny quest rings, I can't help but click them all!

I have 4 days left on my trial. I figure if I don't sleep, I can hit the level cap and not have to buy the game.

Ah but there is so much more to do than just reach lvl 60, there is lvl 60, then there is a LVL 60. It takes time to get your character to be uber badass even after hitting 60. There are so many things to do and collect. I've been 60 for about 3 or 4 months now and I still have a ton of things I need to do to improve my toon.

I have my first quests to Lone Lands at level 17. I need to find that Forsaken Inn for my Rune Keeper class quest.

I'll probably try to finish up some Bree quests before I go, but I'm not looking forward to more fedex/running back and forth quests. Bree was pretty brutal with that and it's just not fun anymore. What's weird about LOTRO is that you really can't skip many quests since you miss out on the opportunity to unlock deeds and such. I'm just kind of floating around where quests take me, but i'm sure i'm missing out on some good unlocks, etc.

Follow the road to get to the tavern, once there pic up all the quests, then follow the road even further East, but stay just to the right of the road and fight all the mobs as you go. This will finish off a lot of the kill X quests and it will get you to the major hub in LL. You will more than likely have to walk back to the tavern and kill some more, but you will be completing quests and getting to Ost Goruth all at the same time. 2 birds 1 stone. I found that one trip back and forth completes most of the kill x and collect x qeusts at the tavern.

I'm about 3 hours in, and quite enjoying it so far.  Great artwork, good VO, decent story.  There's two major things that really bug me though:  lack of dungeon maps (there's a map on the overworld, but not in dungeons?  WTF??) and having to spend SP to even see what a skill is, much less unlock it.  That's a bad, bad design decision, IMO.

With that in mind, do you guys have any skills you absolutely would or wouldn't recommend I go after?  I found a skill tree diagram on GameFAQ's, so I know what's available where.  I'd just hate to waste SP unlocking stuff that sucks.

I don't want to spoil the story or anything, so all I will say is spend as little as possible on the mage.

1. What are the main websites for lotro info? WoW has wowhead for items and wowiki for game information.

2. Do I really need to equip different tools for mining ore and wood? Is there a trick to auto or fast switching tools? Just seems like extra effort.

1. the best place I have found is actually the game's official forums at lotro.com. There are a ton of good threads on there for just about any topic. I go there a lot for class info and for quest info.

2. The best method I have found is to put the gear in a quickslot bar and just click on the one you want to use, it will automatically equip that tool and put the other one back in your bag. Other than that the only way is to go into your bag all the time.

What are good hybrid classes that are needed in groups? Rune-Keeper?

I play a captain, and I don't think you'll be able to find a more true hybrid class than that in the game at the moment. The runekeeper only has two roles, and he has to choose one of them at the beginning of combat, making it really hard to dynamically change roles while fighting. The captain can (but doesn't have to) fill several roles depending on what your group needs. Those roles include main buffer (this is big. The difference between having a captain or not in a fellowship makes a dramatic difference on everyone's abilities), secondary healer (you'll be asked to heal the healer, but you'll also give some juicy heals to the rest of the group, only you can't really do it on demand), secondary tank, and to a certain degree, DPS. Even if you stat up to just one of these roles you'll be able to take on any of the other ones at a moment's notice.

The one point I would make here is that the Warden is by far the most hybrid class in the game. It has skills from every class in the game and it can use them throughout the fight. The biggest problem with the Warden is that it's a difficult class to master and they have a bad name with many players, so a lot of people wont invite them to group. But a good warden can be very good and match the skills of a lot of classes. I know this because my main is a Ward and many people under value them until I group with them.

What are good hybrid classes that are needed in groups? Rune-Keeper?

1. The game itself has class videos that you can watch while selecting your toon, and they do a good job oof explaining the different classes. Other than that there are Wikis for each class.

2. What Destructor said.

3. RK is a hybrid DPS and healing class. They are probably the most favored hybrid class. You can't go worng with a minitril though, they are the best true healer and never have problems finding groups.

Gravity moon = Gm = 1.6m/s/s
Gravity earth = Ge = 9.8m/s/s

Force to take off from earth= Fe
Ms = mass of Saturn V = 3,000,000kg (wikipedia)

Fe = Ms * Ge
Fe = 3,000,000kg * 9.8m/s/s
Fe = 29,000,000N

Force to take off from moon = Fm
Fm = Fe/6
Fm = 29,000,000N/6 = 4,800,000N

Mm = mass of module

Fm = Mm * Gm
4,800,000N = Mm * 1.6m/s/s
3,000,000kg = Mm = Ms

Hmm.. could be the video card 'doesn't like' something else in your build. Able to simply try a different video card? (as mentioned by rotc1983) Aka, not a radeon 4670, but something else? You very very occasionally get two items that simply 'don't like' each other, and if you have them both installed in a system, you get issues.

The 4670 doesn't even have a secondary power connector, does it? I believe most (all?) do not.... the chip just doesnt suck enough juice to need one. If it does happen to have one... is the connector plugged in?

Another option: check the bios on your motherboard for anything related to the graphics adapter/PEG/pci-e slots.

PS: You didn't mention if you have anything overclocked. If you do, reset it all to factory standard, and work up from there.

Take some time to visit the forums for your motherboard/video card.. aka the manufacturer forums. There might be some info there to work with.

Atomic

I agree with all of that, at this point I would be inclined to believe it's a motherboard issue, possibly mobo driver or bios. Does your motherboard have an newer bios that you can flash?

I guess the trick with an exp slider is presumably they'd have to make it work only when there's a promotion. With the quest tracker/locator stuff they added, that's an inherent feature of the game, which they added an option to disable, in case people prefer deciphering quest locations via "find Ozmanov, who's west of Bree, east of Hobbiton, south of Esteldin, west of Trollshaws, near the 3rd grey stone in the field west of Farmer Johnson's southernmost cropfield, by the corner of the lake where the sun shines its rays at 3 p.m. on an odd numbered weekday"...  smirk)

I jest, but I understand why some players prefer that. I just am very happy not to spend half an hour deciphering obtuse directions anymore.  icon_smile

Good review.  Ultimately I started to dislike the game due to the fact that in every single battle one character would get poisoned - and poison did a ton of damage - which meant frequent trips to town but I agree with most of the review.  Maybe it was that the characters were that interesting to me so I didn't really care.

Yeah poison sucks in this game, but the good thing is that when characters die they come back to life after each fight, so no need to rez them if you don't want to. I found that I had so many potions by the middle part of the game that I could literally heal after every fight and I still wouldn't run out of potions, so trips to town were minimal in the second half of the game for me.

So, there are actually people complaining about the 25% exp bonus (they want a "slider" so they can disable the perk during promotional events; they seem to feel the exp bonus wrecks the "purity" of their characters). And then there are people that get mad about suggesting that. And then they have a whole 13 page thread arguing about it (which will probably be closed for personal attacks soon).  Roll Eyes icon_razz Lord knows what they'd think about City of Heroes' "Double XP" weekend promotions (which aren't optional).  icon_eek

The community rep also explained that this was (it's over now) only a 25% bonus on mob kills, not on the exp you get when you turn quests in or complete something. With me, it felt like I was leveling noticeably faster, but perhaps that was all just in my mind.  confused If I'd realized it was only on mob kills, I think I might have focused more on deeds.

Seriously? Again? Turbine, I do not want the 25% XP bonus.

I didn't know where to share this, it's just that a Coast Guard walrus mascot nonchalantly hanging out with Sarah Palin while she signs a boat safety memo seems priceless (I occasionally cover some Coast Guard-related stuff, and stumbled on this):

The mascot looks more like a gigantic rat, if you ask me.  icon_razz

That think looks more like an otter.

There's no demo and to be honest that is probably a good thing because the learning curve is so high that a demo would never do this game justice.
