2 more questions:

1. What are the main websites for lotro info? WoW has wowhead for items and wowiki for game information.

2. Do I really need to equip different tools for mining ore and wood? Is there a trick to auto or fast switching tools? Just seems like extra effort.

1. the best place I have found is actually the game's official forums at lotro.com. There are a ton of good threads on there for just about any topic. I go there a lot for class info and for quest info.

2. The best method I have found is to put the gear in a quickslot bar and just click on the one you want to use, it will automatically equip that tool and put the other one back in your bag. Other than that the only way is to go into your bag all the time.

So whats a good server with lots of players if I need to group? I see there is already a recommendation for Elendilmir.

BTW my system is..

Core 2 duo E8400 3.0ghz
eVga GTX 260 896meg
Gigabyte UD3R
4 gig Patriot 1066 ram
20.1" gaming LCD 5ms

On the kin note, my kin is an Eastern/Central time zone kin and we have seen a recent influx of newer toons and players, so if you want a good kin join Elendilmir and send Hanton an invite. I will get you signed up. We are a casual kin of mature players, but we also regularly schedule events.

What are good hybrid classes that are needed in groups? Rune-Keeper?

I play a captain, and I don't think you'll be able to find a more true hybrid class than that in the game at the moment. The runekeeper only has two roles, and he has to choose one of them at the beginning of combat, making it really hard to dynamically change roles while fighting. The captain can (but doesn't have to) fill several roles depending on what your group needs. Those roles include main buffer (this is big. The difference between having a captain or not in a fellowship makes a dramatic difference on everyone's abilities), secondary healer (you'll be asked to heal the healer, but you'll also give some juicy heals to the rest of the group, only you can't really do it on demand), secondary tank, and to a certain degree, DPS. Even if you stat up to just one of these roles you'll be able to take on any of the other ones at a moment's notice.

The one point I would make here is that the Warden is by far the most hybrid class in the game. It has skills from every class in the game and it can use them throughout the fight. The biggest problem with the Warden is that it's a difficult class to master and they have a bad name with many players, so a lot of people wont invite them to group. But a good warden can be very good and match the skills of a lot of classes. I know this because my main is a Ward and many people under value them until I group with them.

Going to DL the trial. Any links to FAQs that explain the classes and professions?

Any mods for this game?

What are good hybrid classes that are needed in groups? Rune-Keeper?

1. The game itself has class videos that you can watch while selecting your toon, and they do a good job oof explaining the different classes. Other than that there are Wikis for each class.

2. What Destructor said.

3. RK is a hybrid DPS and healing class. They are probably the most favored hybrid class. You can't go worng with a minitril though, they are the best true healer and never have problems finding groups.

Question 3

If you could take one feature from any other game (even non-MMOs) and add it to LOTRO, what would it be?
Just remember to login and answer the questions There (at official forums). Answering it here won't really accomplish anything, other than that someone will probably disagree with all of your answers.  icon_razz At the official forums, it sounds like they're moderating it strictly and any "your idea is stupid, crazy, not as good as my ideas, etc." posts are removed immediately.

They do have the supergroup coalition feature somewhat. If your kinship has specific user created channels that they use. For instance mine uses an alliance channel with several other Kins. Are you using user created channels in game, in addition to the regular game channels? I pointed out to Hotfreak that there is a really active global LFF channel on Elindilmir. type "/joinchannel glff" i see people advertising for fellowships on there for 1.4 stuff all the time.

Gravity moon = Gm = 1.6m/s/s
Gravity earth = Ge = 9.8m/s/s

Force to take off from earth= Fe
Ms = mass of Saturn V = 3,000,000kg (wikipedia)

Fe = Ms * Ge
Fe = 3,000,000kg * 9.8m/s/s
Fe = 29,000,000N

Force to take off from moon = Fm
Fm = Fe/6
Fm = 29,000,000N/6 = 4,800,000N

Mm = mass of module

Fm = Mm * Gm
4,800,000N = Mm * 1.6m/s/s
3,000,000kg = Mm = Ms

Hmm.. could be the video card 'doesn't like' something else in your build. Able to simply try a different video card? (as mentioned by rotc1983) Aka, not a radeon 4670, but something else? You very very occasionally get two items that simply 'don't like' each other, and if you have them both installed in a system, you get issues.

The 4670 doesn't even have a secondary power connector, does it? I believe most (all?) do not.... the chip just doesnt suck enough juice to need one. If it does happen to have one... is the connector plugged in?

Another option: check the bios on your motherboard for anything related to the graphics adapter/PEG/pci-e slots.

PS: You didn't mention if you have anything overclocked. If you do, reset it all to factory standard, and work up from there.

Take some time to visit the forums for your motherboard/video card.. aka the manufacturer forums. There might be some info there to work with.

Atomic

I agree with all of that, at this point I would be inclined to believe it's a motherboard issue, possibly mobo driver or bios. Does your motherboard have an newer bios that you can flash?

I've actually never posted in the LOTRO forums though I check it regularly and do login there.

I guess the trick with an exp slider is presumably they'd have to make it work only when there's a promotion. With the quest tracker/locator stuff they added, that's an inherent feature of the game, which they added an option to disable, in case people prefer deciphering quest locations via "find Ozmanov, who's west of Bree, east of Hobbiton, south of Esteldin, west of Trollshaws, near the 3rd grey stone in the field west of Farmer Johnson's southernmost cropfield, by the corner of the lake where the sun shines its rays at 3 p.m. on an odd numbered weekday"...  smirk)

I jest, but I understand why some players prefer that. I just am very happy not to spend half an hour deciphering obtuse directions anymore.  icon_smile

I feel you. The Quest tracker is a must for any MMO.

Good review.  Ultimately I started to dislike the game due to the fact that in every single battle one character would get poisoned - and poison did a ton of damage - which meant frequent trips to town but I agree with most of the review.  Maybe it was that the characters were that interesting to me so I didn't really care.

Yeah poison sucks in this game, but the good thing is that when characters die they come back to life after each fight, so no need to rez them if you don't want to. I found that I had so many potions by the middle part of the game that I could literally heal after every fight and I still wouldn't run out of potions, so trips to town were minimal in the second half of the game for me.

So, there are actually people complaining about the 25% exp bonus (they want a "slider" so they can disable the perk during promotional events; they seem to feel the exp bonus wrecks the "purity" of their characters). And then there are people that get mad about suggesting that. And then they have a whole 13 page thread arguing about it (which will probably be closed for personal attacks soon).  Roll Eyes icon_razz Lord knows what they'd think about City of Heroes' "Double XP" weekend promotions (which aren't optional).  icon_eek

The community rep also explained that this was (it's over now) only a 25% bonus on mob kills, not on the exp you get when you turn quests in or complete something. With me, it felt like I was leveling noticeably faster, but perhaps that was all just in my mind.  confused If I'd realized it was only on mob kills, I think I might have focused more on deeds.

Seriously? Again? Turbine, I do not want the 25% XP bonus.

Our cross Edge review is up right here. This was a tough game to review, but people who like deep RPGs should at least read the review to see if they might enjoy Cross Edge. It's a tough one because the game is very polarizing and some people will no doubt think it's the worst RPG on the PS3 while others will probably really get into it.

As a side note, Im typically not a crafter in MMOs either, but LotRO does something right that makes crafting worth while. I cant really put my finger on it, but crafting in LotRO is not boring and can be done so long as you pay attention to what materials you need and collect them along your way.

I tried picking up my level 32 Champion again the other night after a few months off, and after that I felt like I didn't have a reason to play the game again.  Almost all of the quests I have are for groups or are far below my level, and trying to do them was just frustrating and slow (if not downright impossible).

That is my highest level character that I've ever gotten, but I almost just felt like starting over since I didn't even know where to go or what to do.  Is there somewhere specific I should be going at that level?  I feel like I've kind of run into a wall, and it is the same wall I hit in the mid 20's many months ago before they made leveling easier and added more quests.  I tend to do mostly solo stuff and I'm not a big fan of pickup groups.

I would suggest making the trip to Rivendale to talk to Aragorn. Once there he will give you a quest to recover the fragments for his sword. This quest is a lengthy mulipart quest that will take you through Evendim. Most of it can be completed solo and along the way you can pick up other quests around the lake.

A friend and I are thinking about getting back into LotRO and we're looking for a good duo that would allow us to experience a lot of the game's content with minimal additional grouping. Any suggestions? The best thing I see suggested is pretty much a Minstrel and just about anybody else, but I'm curious what you all know.
If you guys ever need a hand, just let me know. We can do some of the brutal 3 person instances.  icon_razz Most of my characters are on Elindilmir, Elendilmir, whatever (which I never spell correctly), but if you're starting over, any server's good.

I'm on Lifetime subscription but I haven't played in months, and just found it harder than I remember to get pickup groups going (my guild sort of ran out of steam and a lot of the members were in drastically different timezones to begin with), but I say that about everything. In fact, everyone says that about every MMO now.  icon_razz

I'm sure all sorts of duo-makeups work well, just don't forget to play something you and your friend each enjoy. If you force yourself into classes you don't enjoy playing (but that "duo" well), you may lose interest in the long run. And often two of the same class can be a pretty fun and efficient duo.

Blackjack, if you are looking to get back into it with the 2.7 and 2.8 stuff then look me up in game, my guild is still going strong. In fact we have group events planned for each weekend. This weekend is the 12 person turtle raid. Anyway I am an officer so I can shoot anyone an invite. It's the Elendilmor server Im hanton in game. I will be on raiding tonight.

With two players I would go with 1 tank and 1 healer, so you would need a Mini or Rune Keeper for the healer and a Guardian, Captain or Warden for the tank. RKs and Wardens are also very solo friendly.

In the article though, is one point, which I'm praying will become industry standard someday, and the sooner the better, for me!

Quote
The Conduit makes good on its potential by enabling you the option to fully tweak your controls to your liking, setting horizontal and vertical sensitivity, dead zone, turn speed, running speed, HUD layout and transparency, and more. You can fiddle with the settings until you create the perfect control scheme for your preference, and all of your modifications will be seen in real-time as you play the title, which is a pretty amazing feat. As a result, you will inevitably discover a configuration that makes playing the game very, very fun because you'll be able to reliably target and shoot down enemies without wrestling with a setup that you're not comfortable with. It's such a simple inclusion, but it makes all the difference, and you can bet it's going to be copied endlessly.

Please, Number One, Make it So!   nod

The Wii is really easy to go online with as long as you have a wireless router. Just run through the internet connections setup wizard in the settings area of the Wii dashboard. Easy.

The end of the episode was steamy. Anna Paquin has a very nice body.

I hope you're not calling the entire end of the episode steamy!

No just Anna naked.

I played 3 rounds of solo play and one round online last night.

1. The new controls are better than previous versions.
2. For the first time you can actually control how much power your shot gets by how hard you swing. I noticed that by my 3rd game in a row I was getting tired and as a result my swings were getting less power, that is  unless I actually focused and put more power into it. To me this is cool.
3. Putting is hard, but again for the first time you actually control how much power you give the shot based on your swing, so just like real golf you have to think about the shot and practice.
4. Chipping is hard, and I almost want to say it is broken but I haven't put in enough time to make that determination (I may just suck).
5. The game is much harder this year on PGA tour mode. Your toon starts out weak. My first tourney I finished 12 over after 18 holes. (This has never happened to me in a Tiger Woods game). But when I played a round with Tiger I was back to shooting par and birdie, so the game does help you if you use a good character.
6. I think there are 27 courses. HUGE.

I will be trying to play as much as possible in the next couple of days so I can do a full review on the front page.

It's funny, because I found the chipping to be pretty easy.  I had a couple of chip-ins in one hole.

You're asolutely right about starting weak.  I made the mistake of starting a tour right off the bat. I'm going to have to tackle a couple of non-tour modes and beef up my character before going back.  I don't like finishing in 40th place.

What's your secret to chipping then, because I muffed every single one, they were all too short.
