Speaking of the addon campaigns...

Is this something I should download right away, before I get too far into the game, or doesn't it really matter?

also...  I'm a bit of a rookie when it comes to DLC on the ps3.  Is it something I have to pay for, or is it free?

1. Both addons take place outside of the main storyline, so you can play the game, then go and play the addon stuff. They both relate to the main story, but they aren't essential.

2. The Valkyrie addon stuff does cost $4.99 per addon. There are tons of other stuff on the PSN that are free though. For instance Sony just released a free vehicle pack for Motorstorm.

Hey!  I finally grabbed this.  I'm not too far in yet (somewhere in Chapter 2) - but I LOVE it!

I have a habit of skipping over threads in here that I think won't interest me.  I need to stop doing that.  Another example of a game I would have never in a million years even looked at if it wasn't for GT.

Thanks guys!

I think this is actually our second long thread on the game too. It's solid. One thing that surprised me about it was the game's length. I thought it would be a relatively short game maybe around 15 hours, but there is a whole lot more than that. Plus Sega released two PSN addon campaigns.

you have to use a Krimnal Sopina to get the tape, or in reality you have to request discovery and specifically ask for any dashboard video.

Yeah, I have room for a gem, but I'd rather save that slot until I get a level 5 or 6 gem to use on it. At the moment I haven't got any gems above level 2, I think, which just isn't good enough to even consider using as a temporary buff. I want the freedom to add a more powerful gem in there without losing one I've already placed. Relics are hard enough to build up to a suitable level as it is.

When it hits lvls 10/20/30/40 you can unslot all the relics and reuse them however you want. So in theory you have 4 more lvls in which you can use the lvl 2, then unlsot it when you hit 30. You wont waste a thing.
2248  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: Platformers on the PC? on: May 14, 2009, 01:48:41 PM
I'm having trouble thinking of exclusives, but I would back up the recommendations for Psychonauts and Beyond Good and Evil. Both PC versions are superior versions because of the increased graphics. Maybe try looking through Steam's catalog there may be some in there.
2249  Gaming / Multiplayer Madness (MMO or otherwise) / Re: LOTRO: Book 7 Update on: May 14, 2009, 01:39:50 PM

That's what IM talking about. You still have an open slot too. I can't hurt to throw something in there even if its a small buff.

Is it wrong that I have the Sega CD, GBA Advance, and PS1 versions of this game, and I could still be suckered into buying this newest one? But I'm with you guys, why not just make an all new 3rd installment. I don't even care what system it gets released on, though the PSP could use the love.
2253  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: F.E.A.R. - Worth Playing? on: May 13, 2009, 02:42:14 PM
For me the first 2 chapters were great, the middle chapters were tedious, repetitive and boring, and the last two chapters were great. So if you can get through the middle portion of the game then you should enjoy it overall. But yeah, office hallway, after office hallway. after office hallway kills the middle portion of the game.

Nice coincidence. I hit level 60 this weekend too. The last two levels were spent entirely in Lothlorien, and I still have lots of stuff to do there. I'm almost starting to look forward to heading back into Moria to kick the collective asses of anything that threatened me there before.

Interestingly, I don't own a single legendary weapon at this point. I just haven't found anything I felt was good enough to focus on, and my old weapons both became outdated and were melted down. I now have about 230 000 item xp waiting for my next weapon. smile

You do realize that the legendary weapons lvl up and become much stronger pretty quickly. I haven't used a regular weapon since about lvl 47, none of them hold a candle to legendary weapons. They have all kinds of stat boosts, especially once you start lvling up your runes to slot.
2257  Gaming / Multiplayer Madness (MMO or otherwise) / Re: LOTRO: Book 7 Update on: May 12, 2009, 01:44:16 PM
I hit 60 over the weekend with my first character. I'm now one of the few lvl 60 Wardens.

I will probably start up a new toon soon. The ride to 60 was really rewarding and I can honestly say that this was the first time I hit lvl cap in a game and I didn't feel like I was grinding just to get there. I actually wanted the lvl to hold off because there is so much more left to do. I still have to gather my various deeds, collect reputation, finish books 1.10. on up and so on. I figure there is enough to keep me busy with this toon on and off until the next major expansion comes out.

If I was a mumorpuger game developer I'd provide reviewers with game characters at starter levels, mid levels, and end-game levels so that they could get an idea of what the entire game has to offer without investing hundreds of hours.

The funny thing is, if you ask them to do that they will. I know at the very least Turbine does.
2263  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: Eurogamer busted! on: May 07, 2009, 12:58:08 PM
The only MMO review I have ever written was for LoTRO Mines of Moria (Awesome game by the way) and I played that game for almost 6 weeks before I wrote the review. Even then I felt like I was missing key parts of the game. So 9 hours is no where near enough time to judge an MMO in my opinion, let alone 2 hours.

One thing I've liked in Battle for the Cowl is that they've made mention of Comic Book Death Syndrome. Dick and Alfred have discussed how Tim seems to not be coping with Bruce's death, and they theorize that it's because he's seen so many people die (Superman, Green Lantern, Green Arrow, etc) and come back from that death that he no longer thinks of death as a finality.

It could also be that Tim has already seen this exact F'ing storyline before, except he broke his back instead of getting hit by a death ray. Still it's the same damn storyline from a little over 15 years ago.

Upgrade the blades first and then the lightening attack (Can't remember its name). The blades are your primary weapon so you will get the most out of your XP that way. If you kill enough guys and find enough chests you should have no problem maxing most of your powers out by the end of the game.

I still haven't seen Wolverine yet, but Ryan Reynolds seems like the perfect cast for Deadpool. Anyone who has seen Van Wilder or even his old TV show, knows that he can play a smart ass really well. It also doesn't hurt that he's in good shape physically.

MS would like for you to do a fresh install, but one one of the W7 blogs there are instructions on how to do an upgrade.

Do you have a link for that?

I picked this up at Gamestop today, and I'm about an hour into it. All I can say is that  using the dodge stick is your friend. Like all other GoW games, dodging at the right time will negate all injury no matter if they hit you or not. It saves your ass in boss battles.

Hmmm, I don't remember that boss being such a bugger...

Progressive scan in God of War II makes the game look worse. Every time I load it up I fool around with the settings and muuuuuch prefer it off. It just looks too jagged. I wouldn't worry about the fact that you can't get progressive scan to work for the original, tbh.

At the final area in GoW2! Will be joining you guys next week...

Thanks, I'll give up on progressive scan.

About that boss, I took a look on the net and getting stuck there is common enough that there are quite a few hits on it. I took a look this morning at the controller and I think the button might be a bit mushy. I'm going to try switching controllers tonight.

For God of War and other quick tap games I will quickly place my controller on my right leg and tap as fast as I can with the index finger instead of my thumb. I find that to be faster for me.

Reading that story, how could the company be criminally fined for that. The worker who got attacked was performing maintenance on it and thought he had cut power to it, but obviously he didn't. So isn't it his fault he got hurt? I would  compare this to a furnace repair man who forgets to cut the gas and blows himself up.

But yeah, it does make a good story about killer robots.
2277  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: Gothic 2 gold worth $10? on: April 28, 2009, 02:45:42 PM
I'd say it's worth it. It adds an entirely new campaign within the game. I would guess it takes anywhere from 10 to 15 hours to beat the addon stuff. So that's less than $1 per game hour. The add on really doesn't add to the main storyline at all though, it's just more G2 goodness. Heck I would play the addon over G3 any day.

Uh guys, we're already predicting the future, your mind does it every single moment you're alive, it's how we humans exist.  But, it's no special trick.

Instead, you have to realize that there is a very small delay between what every human perceives with his senses, this includes the act of sensing and the brain processing that raw data into something usable.  Because of this, all brains have a basic ability to use prior information to predict what will happen in that delay.

This is also why certain optical illusions work.  Certain patters to the human eye are processed by the brain that trigger a predictive response.

Taking this even further, we also predict the weather somewhat accurately two to three days in advance.

It's all a lot of probability and stuff.  And there is no absolutely predicting complex events down to small details, and no absolute predicting of everything due to the Heisenberg Uncertainty Principle.

I guess what I'm saying is, predicting the future, remains in the realm of science fiction, but it's pretty cool to realize the amazing stuff we're doing along those lines right now.  Isn't science cool?

So what you're saying is that my prediction about the GT update is coming true based on my triggering of a predicitve response?  icon_twisted
