For a minute there, I thought maybe they were going back on their ridiculous version numbers. But then I see it's a screencap from 2011...

Yep, NOD32 here. Been using it for quite awhile now, and it's been great. You hardly notice it, and it even has a gaming mode. Haven't used that, but I think it's a sort of whitelist that when detecting a particular game, will temporarily disable any scanning and protection.

Well, I've finally completed the main game and both expansions. On the whole, I thought the main game was great. As far as expansions go, I know there was lots of critcism towards The Lost and The Damned when it came out and that many considered The Ballad of Gay Tony to be the better one. Personally though, I think I liked TLAD more. It simply had more of what I liked, including more of a try to make something different and what I felt was more of a story, whereas TBOGT I felt was more scattered in terms of story.

I'd love to see Stephen King write a Mobster story. At least then the killings would make sense.  icon_lol

I'm not even spending any time with the second season. They lost me during the finale last season.

I think they're trying to harken back to the 80's version of the Turtles with the personalities. Problem is,  it seems like they're going for half-campy, half-serious, which I don't think is quite working. All at the same time, it just seems so generic. And dare I say it, it almost feels like Bay is spoofing himself with this movie.

I'm in! I've really missed this series. A bunch of friends would get together to play R6, Rogue Spear and Raven Shield. We'd often play Lone Wolf or Free-For-All and one guy was terrible with grenades and would always end up dropping them at his feet. I'm glad to see this series return to its roots. They were intense experiences where each shot counted. I loved feeling of knowing every move you made could be your last. It really made for a different game feel to most shooters today. You had to be patient, and yet you had to keep moving and and it was incredibly rewarding.

As far as wounding hits go, if you got shot in the leg, you'd limp for the rest of the round. I forget which one introduced that, but I liked that mechanic and I'd love to see it return.

This trailer is intense, and I love the idea of being able to use breach charges on any surface, including floors.  If it manages to work the same way they show in the trailer, that should add an interesting dynamic with the environment changing around you. The original series was around before any kind of use of physics in games, and I'm imagining the interesting things they could do now with objects in the game. Like say, a lamp gets bumped off a table as you try to nudge yourself around a corner and clatters to the ground, alerting the opposition to your location.

I've tried (and failed) repeatedly to finish Witcher 1. It's just not going to happen.

Yeah, I got all the way to the end, but the way the fight at the end is structured makes it very difficult. As if the bunch of guys aren't difficult enough, but you can't take a break to heal before the boss, made worse by the fact that there's a rather necessary potion I only realized would have made things far easier, had I known that going in. Only problem was that I wasn't very focused on potion making to begin with and was blindsided. And this was on Easy!  I hate a game that forces one to play one way and ignores choices in skills that were made throughout. Two Worlds II comes to mind.

So, assuming the client is not needed, that would mean the site itself the way it is now wouldn't go away. I'm a little confused as to the reason behind the client. I guess one could look at it as convenience.
11  Non-Gaming / Off-Topic / Re: Dear Gamespot, Stop Trying to Make Me Care about Your Host Personalities on: June 05, 2014, 01:27:53 AM
Curse is particularly bad at this as well. I think all this started around the time G4 stopped being dedicated to games and everyone is trying to be like them. Problem is, not everyone can be a good host. I find the problem with most of them tend to be that they're rather snarky. Or they often come across like they don't really know their material. Which is why I tend to appreciate Angry Joe. He usually tells it like it is and he usually knows what he's talking about and is honest about it.
12  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: Late to the Party - GTA4 Edition on: May 31, 2014, 08:12:53 PM
Heh, yeah, I'd imagine GTAV is quite a leap.  Overall, I've come late to the franchise. I had only really played the first game, the one with the top-down video, so one of the first things I did when I heard about GTAV was I bought SA on Steam when there was a sale and played through that. And that was that, I was hooked.   Technically, I feel Rockstar is a company that keeps innovating with their tech. There's always something new to their games. As such, It's kind of difficult going back. Holy hell, I tried playing Vice City after I played SA and I couldn't do it. I know people love it, but technologically it's very clunky. I had played SA on the PC, and had really come to appreciate mouse-look while driving, something VC simply didn't have. It was a difficult game through its technology, if that makes any sense.  It does make you appreciate the advances that SA made, and the other advancements made going forward. There are always some big technological leaps in their games.
13  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Late to the Party - GTA4 Edition on: May 31, 2014, 01:45:04 AM
Yes, that's not a typo. I got GTA4 for Christmas, along with GTA5, but wanted to play through 4 first. Loved it, all the way through, and I even like the physics that is often a point of criticism. I guess my major point of criticism is in its length. It's a bit too long, or maybe it's just because it's not set in different environments like SA was, making it feel longer. But I didn't feel it was much of a difficult game. Sure, there were some frustrating moments, but overall I felt they were manageable. I actually felt some of the tougher missions were the side-missions like the assassinations.

I actually got the Complete Edition, so currently making my way through The Lost and Damned, which is quite fun. Love the racing in it, which harkens back to Road Rash, and the theme itself as a motorcycle club helps differentiating it from the rest of the games in general. I've actually just completed Diamonds in the Rough, which I felt was one of the hardest missions yet, though I had a glitch which helped me complete it easier. At one point you're supposed to kill off some bodyguards on the way to deposit packages in trash bins, and normally there'll be more bodyguards on the way to the second bin. On this one try, I had died right after killing the last bodyguard, so when it came to replaying that part of the mission, it had actually saved progress so all I had to do was drive up to the trash bin markers and there were no bodyguards waiting. Bug or feature, it was handy!

17  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: [Kickstarter] Outcast HD Reboot on: May 06, 2014, 04:01:36 AM
Yeah, true enough, Tilt. It was a hard sell in the first place. I think that in the end, they just assumed too much, which is a mistake. Never assume anything when you're trying to sell something, as you need to sell the idea overall, both to new and old. As a result, their pitch just felt scattered. Behind all that, I could see what they were trying to accomplish, and it sounded rather ambitious, but as you say, they needed to communicate what they were doing in a much better fashion. As far as I understood, the original code was still intact, that they planned to build a new engine around it and rebuild the environments with more detail and also add another world. Hopefully they can regroup and refocus at a later time with a better pitch.

Honestly, while the game was brilliant, I don't think it sold all that well, if I remember correctly.

I absolutely hated this game, which I found heartbreaking since I really wanted to like it. I loved the setting and the environment, which felt kind of fresh.  I just found it rather brutal and unforgiving. I got stuck really early on (the first time you encounter waves of multiple guys as part of the story near a warehouse), gave up and never looked back. Also hated the driving in it. Felt so blah.

According to the article, it looks less like a remake and more like a rerelease.

Which is fine, as these are some of my all time favorites.  However, I do hope that a new game in the series might come to fruition.

Yeah, looks like it was filed by a company that deals in re-releases. Although I find it odd that a trademark would need to be filed to do that, unless they intend to make an HD release.

You know what I just noticed. One of our "local" channels airs Conan right after Late Night. Surreal. Maybe it's been that way since Conan started his show on TBS, but first time I noticed.

Yeah, that was kind of along the lines of I was thinking of. It doesn't even have to be the same character, but a character doing political commentary.

What I think could happen is that he could have a segment where he does comment on ongoing news in a snarky manner. "And now, a Colbert Report..."

I doubt it, though.  I believe he'll want to put as much distance between the character and himself as possible once the transition occurs.  That or/and the character may be a Comedy Central IP and they'd not allow it.

Well, it doesn't even have to be the character or even that particular name, but the idea of him riffing on politics. Because you just have to figure that he will at some point.

ALL late night talk show hosts do at some point during their monologues.  I don't see how he's going to be any different than Letterman, Leno, Ferguson or Fallon.

Exactly. There's no avoiding it as it would be unnatural otherwise. In fact, people are going to expect it.

Oh ok. I guess I'm not the only one confused about this. I thought I had seen a compatibility list of what PSNow would be supporting. But if it's focused more on PS3 games, that makes sense since PSNow does use PS3 hardware.

tbh, I haven't watched the show, but King has a history of setting up great stories and then closing them out with groan-worthy endings.  Under the Dome is one of his worst, imho, but from what I remember, the show isn't using the same premise.

Yeah, from what I hear it's quite a departure, so much so that they're going on for multiple seasons rather than simply wrapping it up. Wrapping it up would have made more sense, but no, we got this stupid ending that made viewers feel like it was a complete waste of time. Felt like "You stuck with it throughout? Well, F-U."

Under The Dome jumped the shark with its finale. Made viewers feel worthless for having spent the time watching it. That's not how you do it. If a show is primed for a second season, you don't want to piss off the audience by essentially giving them the middle finger. That's how it felt.
