agreed - fugly. The metro UI works on the PC but at first glance not on the console. There are just too many icons there for any real semblance of order.

Yuck.
122  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: Diablo III --Impressions start on page 36 -- on: September 08, 2013, 12:00:20 AM
When I played through the game on the PC (2 or 3 times I think) I obviously didn't hate it. I did however grow tired of the terrible drops and the perceived need that I needed to hit the AH in order to progress further at many many points.

I like the console version plain and simple. I like the dual sticks, I like that I don't have to keep one 'eye' on the keyboard so I don't mis-press a key etc.

As I posted earlier I got 3 legendaries in one sitting - that makes 4-5 in the first 21 levels or so. On the PC I got maybe 3 in 3 play throughs - only 1 of which was for my barb. It was actually a shitty pair of boots....

Colour me impressed and satisfied.

I want this for couch coop with the wife. I really don't want to double dip... Well see how long I can hold off...

I felt the same way - I traded in a few games and ended up on top - $61 in trades vs $49.99 purchase. Glad I did it!
124  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: Diablo III --Impressions start on page 36 -- on: September 07, 2013, 04:11:42 AM
Played up to level 21 today - and I got 3 count em 3 legendary drops in one session!
Too bad the PC version wasn't this generous........
125  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: Diablo III --Impressions start on page 36 -- on: September 06, 2013, 01:44:45 AM

126  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: Diablo III --Impressions start on page 36 -- on: September 06, 2013, 12:31:23 AM
I've got my toon up to about level 17 I think and I've already come across 2 legendaries - and the kicker here is that they can actually be USED by my character!! (unlike the PC version  finger)

I like the interface and quite enjoy sitting on my couch and playing.

The stupidest thing I did as a teen was getting in cars with drunk people.
Looking back I was lucky too many times.

130  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: Diablo III --Impressions start on page 36 -- on: August 23, 2013, 01:38:01 AM
went back to D3 today............. kinda wish I stayed away.

1.5 hrs grinding in Act2 Inferno yeilded more 'rare' items than I can remember - however (wait for it) they were all useless for my class or WAY below what I have equipped.
Sad. So sad.
131  Non-Gaming / Off-Topic / Re: Commando + 20 Years: Does Not Hold Up At All on: August 22, 2013, 05:52:15 AM
I saw an interview or documentary type thing about Commando a while back and they touched on the wardrobe issues with Wells. Turns out he was not the original bad guy - whomever they cast first quit and they had zero time for problems so they just hired him and he had to wear what was originally made for his predecessor.

ta da!

knowing is half the battle.
132  Non-Gaming / Off-Topic / Re: headphone advice please on: August 21, 2013, 03:54:19 PM
Sennheiser was next on my list believe me - however I picked up the ATs for under a hundred so it was a no brainer.

Also agreed on the noise reduction - they seem to be 'passive' rather than active - either way they do a great job.
133  Non-Gaming / Off-Topic / Re: headphone advice please on: August 20, 2013, 09:07:03 PM
thanks so much for all the help and suggestions guys.
After much hemming and hawing I decided on............

The Audio-Technica M50s in White.
So far I am very happy with them - sound is great and they are comfortable.

135  Non-Gaming / Off-Topic / headphone advice please on: August 20, 2013, 05:00:18 AM
I've moved into an apartment from a home and thus cannot listen to music at the levels that I've been used to.......

I'm looking for suggestions on a decent pair of headphones for use with my pc and receiver.

I'm no audiophile however I do enjoy music. I'm not looking for a pair of $1k earcups.

thoughts?

Very good! You're the Special Agent Johnson of Die Hard quizzes.

Hark is the other agent Johnson - no relation.

Just saw this with my 11yr old and we liked it. I knew what to expect coming in and I was not disappointed. Great effects and character design along with some cheesy humour and an interesting story.

Put it this way - I liked this better than Iron Man 3 !

Saw it last night and enjoyed it for what it was.
I knew ahead of time that there was no real link to the book so my expectations were managed.
I simply feel that this could have been called '28 Days Later: The Global Story'

I do think they did a great job of portraying a sense of tension throughout the movie.

Please forgive me if its already been posted (if I wanted to read I would go to school  finger)

Looks like Xbone games were not being played on actual Xbone consoles.
http://www.cinemablend.com/games/Xbox-One-Games-E3-Were-Running-Windows-7-With-Nvidia-GTX-Cards-56737.html

And before anyone goes to slam me with " they all play their demos on high end PCs " If memory serves didn't we hear multiple times 'the following demo is played in real time in engine....." ??

Quote:I suppose the only real damning thing about this kind of exposure is that Microsoft didn't even use “comparable specs" from the company providing them with video cards in their home console. For those of you who don't know the Xbox One will run on a modified AMD GPU that, according to Extreme Tech, is on the level of a mid-ranged Radeon 7790. I guess the 7790 wasn't powerful enough for the Xbox One's E3 games eh? They needed a real manly card like the GTX 780, eh?

Oh, and they have reserved seating in all of their theaters now. When did that become a thing? It slowed the ticket line to a crawl. I don't think we'll be going back there.

Cineplex up here in Canuckistan has a mobile app for ticket purchase and for the reserved seating engagements you can also select your seat. Redeem ticket at theater by scanning bar code and you're in!

Just got back from the super surround sound icon_razz 3D showing.
Loved it. Not a comic book guy but liked the story and the new telling.

I really liked the portrayal of Zod. For me he just oozed power and fear. Well done performance wise.

Spoiler for Hiden:
destruction was a little much in NY battles but didn't ruin the movie.
Spoiler for Hiden:
totally surprised at the kill scene
Spoiler for Hiden:
loved the little references to the 1st movie

saw it Saturday and really enjoyed it. I am far from an avid fan by the way - I just never got into the Trekky universe.

It was way better than Iron Man 3 by a warp factor of 10!  icon_lol

Great story, acting and action. Highly recommended.
