I think he is great and has immense talent and on camera persona and have liked him since first hearing about his audition tape.

The negative side of me never thought he would win if only because we are not ready as a society for someone with a physical challenge like that to be thrust in our faces 1hr a day for 5 days a week. Sad but true.

I see the following happening: he gets to be some sort of regular correspondent on the actual show or perhaps on something like Regis etc etc.  That is something that the public can handle i think.

Thoughts?

Just downloaded and configured Jump desktop for the iPad and love it. Works great over wifi and will certain ly come in handy when i want to dl something directly to the pc etc etc. (among other things obviously)

(edit) should have mentioned that hhis is an RDP application. Just in case there is some confusion. There is ZERO lag between my input and the action on screen. Awesome.

1010  Non-Gaming / Off-Topic / [Movie] Grown Ups on: June 30, 2010, 01:31:16 PM
Went and saw Grown Ups last night with the famdamily and enjoyed it. Sandler, James, Rock, Spade & Schneider all looked like they were simply having a good time during the filming. Sure its some of the same things from the actors but that's what works for them and the audience.

Tons of one liners little quips here and there.
I got a ' Great Outdoors' feeling from the movie - which is also a classic and not entirely a bad thing.

Salma Hayek - watch out for the scene with her in a bathing suit - WOWZA!  nod
Rob Schneider's blonde daughter http://www.imdb.com/name/nm2576486/ in the movie! My goodness - those legs go on until forever!

If you're looking for a movie to simply smile at and enjoy it for what it is - I don't think you'll be disappointed. The theater laughed out loud at several points.

Do you guys with the apple case use the "kickstand" thing often?

yes. Most of the time while lying down in bed with my knees up to gain a little better viewing angle. Also works very well when using it at the office. My honest opinion on the Apple case is that it is great value for the $$. You can't go wrong.

$130 ducats? Jeebus that's expensive.

I went with the standard Apple case offering and coupled it with the front only skin from http://www.bestskinsever.com/ipad-skin and am pleased with the pairing.
The skin protects against scratches etc and the case is nice enough and also has the built in stand option. And the added bonus is that none of the ports are obstructed by it. To be honest that Oberon case looks as if it was made for a notepad (paper old school) and they saw what they perceived as another 'value add' proposition. Lame.

more info on the 360 'slim' RDOT/RDOD

from Kotaku

it appears the new 360 will shut down to cool down when the red light flashes..here you go

Quote
The new smaller Xbox 360 will not flash the "Red Ring of Death" the iconic symbol of catastrophic system failure. It's new warning mark is the "red eye". Sounds...ominous.

It's not necessarily the red eye of death, though.

This new 250GB unit is clearly displaying the red dot. That's only half the story.

Apparently, here is the warning message this Xbox 360 is running:

Quote
The Xbox 360 is shutting down to protect the console from insufficient ventilation.

You can turn the console back on after the power light stops flashing.

It appears that when things go wrong for the new 250GB Xbox 360, it can send out a warning and shut itself down, giving Xbox 360 enough time to do something very important: Brace themselves.

Just downloaded a different browser client called Perfect Browser and love it!!!!!!!!

Tabs just like in IE or FF with the same browser controls etc. No more hunting for opened links and trying to get back to your previous instance thanks to the tab interface.

Very slick check it out.

I'm hearing rave reviews about Atomic Browser, and quite a few people like iCab as well. Have you tried
them? What made you go with Perfect Browser?

Nothing in particular led me to this -just blind luck i guess. I will certainly look into the atomic browser option a little later and perhaps even the icab. I am brand new to this world  eek so making choices is sometimes a  little hard to make.

I have the Apple case and like it thus far. I agree with the previous post about the rough edges and the texture does grab dust etc.
I ordered the front only skin from bestskinsever.com and will apply this evening.
I have used their skins before on our PSPs, iTouches, nanos and my old zune and love them - I have zer fear of scratches on my devices with them on. I will still use the case as i like the 'gripiness' that it provides and the built in stand is great too.

Wow.  Seriously?  Is there a "This is a joke" smilie so this doesn't happen again?

I'm with ericb - I use it more now than when I first got it. It has a devious way of enabling you to do things you didn't know you needed to do. Currently I use it as:

- my "sittin on the couch watching TV" web surfer
- my dedicated ebook reader (it gets a LOT of use - I have no issues with eyestrain and the ability to read books from any of the major sellers is huge)
- my comic book reader
- my portable gaming system
- my workout assistant (watching movies on the treadmill FTW!)
- my portable office - carry this thing with me when I'm on call and I'm no longer locked down to my house. No longer have to cancel plans with my family because an issue came up at work. Last weekend I was in Myrtle Beach and used it to remote in and keep tabs on a major issue without having to cut my trip short.
- my go-to email reader - work, Gmail, and Roadrunner accounts on one device? Yes, please!

Most of these things I could do on my iPhone, but not half as quickly and pleasantly. And every day I find new uses for it.

My highest praise for it is that if you took my iPad away today, I'd have to find some kind of device to replace it. I don't ever see myself going back to a time when I don't have an intermediate device between a phone and a laptop.

Agreed with YK and EricB on all accounts.
Gaming ? check
Email? check
Browsing? check
eBooks? check

I also installed the CITRIX receiver for use in our XEN environment here at work - connects flawlessly and I can use Office 2k10 on it.
Also downloaded a few cool apps - cooking / science type things.

Probably what I like the best is at bedtime I can watch a movie etc while not disturbing my wife. Sure I can go downstairs to watch TV but what fun is that ?  icon_lol

And to echo YKs point - couch surfing is great. No more 8lb 17" laptop burning a hole in my leg.

WiFi only for me - did not see the need for 3G given what I am using it for.

picked up a 64gb WiFi model yesterday at BestBuy on a whim. Really like it so far - just like a previous poster mentioned - I know that it is really a big ipod/tablet. But I like the size etc for couch surfing and movies in bed.

Also picked up the Apple case for it. Pretty nice - add some grip and also acts as a stand.

I have a Quake 2 tshirt that my sister gave to me about 2 years after the game was out. Simple Q2 logo with the id logo on the back near the neck.

Was wearing it one day at the mall and some young kid walks by and says 'sick shirt' - made me feel pretty cool for an old guy.
