Played through the 3rd sniper recon mission of the campaign (heroic) and I'm enjoying it thus far. So far there isn't anything particularly unique that's standing out about it, it's a Halo game I was expecting to play. The textures and models do look a little sharper IMHO but I'm seeing some weird motion blurring in the cutscenes.

Nice to fight along with some regular squad mates this time. I've stood around and observed some of the firefights and they've been effective in dispatching enemies on their own. I was afraid they would stand around just being shot at and waiting for me to flank around to mop up. Cool to see some of the personalities of your fellow Spartans as well. Hard to make out what Kat is saying in her radio transmissions because of her accent.

Maybe it wasn't as apparent to me as now or it's more pronounced, but the elites are a PITA to take out. They move fast and are such bullet sponges. Throw in a group of them, some with jet packs, and it starts to get hairy. Haven't run into many new UNSC vehicles and weapons yet - hoping to see some nice toys later on.

Gamertag - RoboSim

Agreed on all points with Spigot here. I noticed frame rate choppiness about 2mins in and was thinking  what the heck?

Kat is hard to understand - it sounds like she is taking a dump when she talks  icon_smile

Elites - yes I am also having some challenges - I was on Heroic but had to bump down the challenge one level. I know I'm a wimp.

Played just past the sniper level with 'Chekov' last night and it is good to see that the same Halo formula that sold me back in 2001 still holds true today.

MP was challenging to say the least. I miss the COD left trigger zoom and because of it I am always tossing at least one grenade per match when I don't mean to. retard
I find that the DMR is not very powerful.
I am trying to get used to all the jumping and grenade spam.

I did like one match where it was all snipers though.

So far I am happy with my purchase - this will hold me over until HoH and BlackOps comes out - just like Owain mentioned.

i am glad that i went with a simultaneous dual-band router rather than one that is strictly N despite the cost though.

ABSOLUTELY.  Dual band is a must so you can still have G coverage and not murder your N speeds (and also extend your network a bit).

I picked up the Dlink DIR-825. It has the dual band.

Q-range for 5ghz spectrum would be the only decrease correct?

Topic says it all.

Thinking of moving from standard G wireless to N. Has anyone 'upgraded' their older wireless gear and noticed significant speed increases? How about range? Does that also increase?

Thanks,

I gotta say that until now I was thinking that this edition of COD would be the same game-type set in a different era. I was looking forward to playing.

Now I can safely say that I AM REALLY LOOKING FORWARD TO PLAYING.

New game types and options on how you play ie: combat training. Sold sold sold.

Great article Ron - thanks for posting. I do have one question if you don't mind (or perhaps someone else can answer) what is the deal with Combat Training? I have read and re-read the paragraph below and cannot figure it out?

The game looks pretty familiar until Dan leaps from a second story window in a new mode called “Combat Training”.   The game mode allows folks to bridge the game between offline multiplayer and online multiplayer.  Combat Training has a completely separate multiplayer perk, rank, and level system that is separate from the online component.  Treyarch realized that 30% of people have never played the franchise online, and this new mode is meant to fix those shenanigans.   This mode came about from a dummy training mode that the internal team created to bring an offline dummy called “Larry” to life in the game world.  This feature grew until it was a completely offline or cooperative multiplayer mode that will ship with the game.

What are all these ADS you guys are seeing? I see a few ads for things to download but my GAME LIBRARY is one click away (ok two - I click the xbox button then the game library). I seldom see ads on the dashboard and they're super easy to ignore.

You don't have the Spotlight bar appear first thing upon booting up?  Right now when I turn on my 360 I get audio and video telling me how great Halo Reach is, with assorted other things I don't want displayed to the right.  Sure, it's a short ways to navigate to what I want--my games--but imagine if you had to click past an ad screen every time you booted up a Windows machine.

There is an option somewhere if memory serves that you can configure as to what you see on bootup.

being on the Northern side of the border means that we don't get:

Netflix
Last FM

And most likely won't get:

ESPN (not that I care)
MSNBC (not that I care)

The 10 bucks is in no way a deal breaker - BUT it would be nice if they leveled the playing field ie: access to internet radio and Netflix.

Thought it would be fun to share what we are getting in terms of mileage. I moved from a Chev Blazer to a more sedate 2010 Corolla last year and have steadily been watching my mileage increase.

2010 Corolla
35000k (21k miles)
42 ltr tank (11.1 gal)
80/20 city/hwy
605km best tank yet

One thing that I am amazed at is just how long it took to get better mileage - I was thinking that I would have seen increases @20k not 37k.

I have never ever paid for Live (xbox or 360), but am really considering picking up this and a year live card.
Loved playing the original halo local mp, but 2 and 3 were just single play exp for me, so I'm really behind the times.  I am a CoD junkie so am having to decide if it would be worth it with black ops coming out.
Maybe someone from the beta can elaborate on the "feel" of mp vs. CoD?
Edit: by the way I mainly play team deathmatch and hc s&d

Two wildly different games. Comparing them is like comparing apples and bananas. Both are supposed to be really great games.

I played the Beta for the two weeks it was out. I think they're doing something cool with the addition of classes in the MP game. It should mix things up a bit. The weapon change up is cool, a couple new and many tweaked. Multiplayer is still HEAVILY focused on being good at tossing grenades.

and jumping and shooting. Jumping and shooting. Jumping and shooting - do I sense a trend here? Tongue

okay okay I will fall on my sword here and admit that I grossly over generalized a large segment of workers with my grade 6 education analogy. I am sorry. However in hindsight it does apply to this facility  nod

Again - it was very un-Canuckistanian of me to complain like this. It was however very Canuckistanian to apologize.

Rant still stands though - get over your feelings and let us enjoy the BBQ. It is not meant as a snub - merely a team building exercise.

Background - I am the sole member of our 'Social Committee' here in the IT department. We are in the pharmaceutical distribution industry and have warehouses all over Canada. The warehouse attached to this IT facility has decided to unionize last November and are still in negotiations - fine with me and no skin off my balls.

There are 5 BBQs on this site. I sent an email to the HR manager and Distribution Ctr Manager last Friday to see about securing 1-2 for an IT team building BBQ for all 15 of us.

The Dist Mgr responds that he has an issue with the event as it would appear to be IT only and that 'optics' aren't exactly looking good in terms on how the ADULTS in the warehouse would feel about a BBQ that does not involve them.

WTF! icon_evil finger

Am I or any of my cohorts here upset in the least with a union sponsored BBQ notice down in the communal coffee area that will not involve us? No. We could care less.

Thanks to all unions out there for turning an everyday simple exercise into a rolling ball of shit.
Here's a handy hint - stay in school past grade 6 and get an education thereby empowering you to EARN your place in working society rather than demand your place.

Thanks,
Roman

heck I even broke down and bought MW2 again about a month ago. I missed the MP hook.

Did the glitches bother me? Sure they did - but as I said before online I am not nearly good enough for the glitches and other 'exploits' to ruin my day. If I am not happy I simply leave that lobby and join a new one.
Were they frustrating at times (unlimited care package?) sure but you role with it and move on.

My son is very happy that MW2 is back in the house and I enjoy watching him play and am amazed by his skill for only 9yrs old. Heck I remember he joined us 'old guys' once while we were playing on Sub Base and he got the winning kill by by jumping off the railing on some stairs, pulls a 180 degree turn in mid air and nails a guy with akimbo rangers  eek.

Will I buy it. Yes - will I play online - yes. Will I rage quit - no. There are more important things in life to be angry with. Gaming for fun is not one of them.
