I would have liked to see a more rapid 'burn' to be honest. I liked the buildup  -but at the half-way or just beyond that I would have liked to see a little more action.
2  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: Diablo III --Impressions start on page 36 -- on: August 20, 2015, 07:45:21 PM
Is/does the console version up to date in terms of patches/features as the PC? Does it now also have seasons etc etc?

It is pricey all things considered. 6-8 bucks would be normal for a fast food chain combo here. I think a double bigmac meal combo is $7.59 to give you an idea. So paying 8.49 for a burger alone is huge.

chili with beans is great.
Tacos for breakfast whether they be pink or with ground beef/fish are great!

I came I ate - I will be back  (if only to try a different option)

Place was very busy (duh) they issue you a number and come find you to deliver your order.

I ordered the Thick Original w/ bacon, Poutine (fries, gravy and cheese) and large drink = $18.00

Burger was good -too much mayo in close proximity to the tomato and lettuce = 1st bite everything tried to squirt out the back  disgust.
Burger tasted fresh and the brioche bun was good too.
I found it a little too messy - too many garnishes I guess.

Poutine was terrible (all jokes aside) standard undercooked fries with gravy on top made it a soggy mess.
Should have got cris cut fries and will next time.

I will try it again as stated above and but will try another burger and ask for less condiments so its all together not a messy burger. I like messy - just not on my lunch hour.

I agree with Lee. In N Out does feel/taste like a burger I would make at home (smaller - but the fresh factor is there)
8  Non-Gaming / Off-Topic / Re: Carls Jr - now in Toronto should I try it? on: April 09, 2015, 09:22:40 PM
Yes Pug I'm leaning towards that Burger. Appreciate the responses - while I already know it's going to be no burger nirvana it'll be a nice change and little adventure I guess.

I really wish we had an In N Out up here. They had a 'popup'  location here last year but only had 300 or so burgers on hand.

Fingers crossed for an actual location soon.

New location opened on Wednesday. Thinking about a burger for lunch tmrw.
I hear and see that they are large (per the commercials) but are they worth it?

11  Non-Gaming / Off-Topic / Re: [TV] The Walking Dead Season 5 on: March 24, 2015, 09:21:00 PM
was the sneak peek into next week's episode during the Talking Dead the one with Maggie on the front porch of Deana's home?

I obviously missed it live (watched on YouTube)  but things I've read online are like: "wow! Shit getting real next week!" etc etc.

I didn't walk away from that scene thinking that at all.

I read it as he was feeling comfortable knowing that a wall was between them. Perhaps he's no longer worried about walkers and now solely focused on human threats as they are more apt to be a issue than the walkers at this point.
13  Non-Gaming / Off-Topic / Re: [TV] The Walking Dead Season 5 on: March 09, 2015, 04:42:34 PM
I really enjoyed this episode as well. I can see how some of them are torn in terms of feeling welcome and trying to hide the fact that they 'want' to like this place.

I giggled a little when Carol was approaching the little kid - I thought to myself "here she goes again - another dead kid"
Great speech though and happy that she didn't kill him.

This is also where I stopped reading the comics

$25 for the game plus all DLC was too good not to pass up.

Was this unpreventable? I'm actually surprised the parents are getting so much sympathy based on the description.

There's only so much you can do to kid-proof the entire world.  If the kid had never left his room on his own before, let alone solo opened the front door to the house, I think it's understandable that the parents never saw that as a high risk for that kid.

I've got a fishtank in my house, and conceivably my 4.5 year old could quietly leave her room while we were sleeping, walk downstairs, drag a stepstool of some sort over to the fishtank, open the lid, fall in, and drown.  But my daughter has never exhibited any behavior around the fishtank that would make her seem interested in doing anything remotely close to that action, and she doesn't even ever leave her room on her own unless we open the door for her or tell her over the baby monitor that she can come downstairs.

Should I find some way to completely strap down the lid to the fishtank even though it's seems extraordinarily unlikely that anything would actually happen?  I mean, I admit talking through the fishtank scenario now makes me want to strap down the lid out of the self-induced fear I just gave myself, but I'm sure if I put my mind to it (and hated myself) I could think of even more hypothetical deadly scenarios for my kids.

I guess when my daughter was even younger but not using a crib, I did have a childproof doohickey on her bedroom door knob to stop her from leaving her room on her own, so maybe there was more the parents in the OP could've/should've done.  But I'm inclined to give them the benefit of the doubt unless I hear otherwise.

edit to my previous post:  I misread Roman's post the first time and didn't realize it was an unrelated other citizen who did the crowdfunding rather than the toddler's parents.  That changes everything, and if he keeps a single dime for his own personal benefit then yes, he's going to hell.

I wasn't specifically judging, I was more curious if there were any more details to the case, like the parents were out partying and left the kid home alone or something.

Well there were more details but I specifically left them out so that we could talk about the issue without any pre-conceived ideas....

He was staying at his grandparents apartment. He was put to bed around 9-10pm and made it out of bed, out of the apartment, down the elevator (or stairs - unknown) and out of the building (captured on camera)

I don't think he should keep any either, but this made me start to wonder about the tax implications of all that money technically going to person A who then gives it to person B as a "gift".  The fund starter will be on record as having earned that $170k, right?  That probably puts a huge tax burden on that person, to the tune of tens of thousands of dollars.

No No No. The concerned citizen is not keeping any of the money. All the funds are going to the parents.
23  Non-Gaming / Off-Topic / Re: (Not an easy topic) Death,crowd funding?,profit?,donate?-what are your thoughts on: February 23, 2015, 05:53:38 PM
Okay I'll begin.

Yes - I'm a parent of one.

I'd like to think that I would use the funds for the funeral and donate the rest to other worthy charities. Maybe even the daycare where my child attended etc etc.
I'm not sure I would be comfortable with the excess funds. No amount of money would replace a loved one and I'd like to think that I would keep in mind the wishes of the original thought for the fundraising.

I guess in hindsight the crowd funding could have been capped at $20k too?

I dunno.
24  Non-Gaming / Off-Topic / (Not an easy topic) Death,crowd funding?,profit?,donate?-what are your thoughts on: February 23, 2015, 04:26:11 PM
Back story:
Something terrible happened here in Toronto last week. A 3yr old child managed to leave his room / residence in a diaper, boots and tshirt in the early morning (security footage shows 4am) and exit the building.
Todler was later found approx 6.5hrs later lying in snow next to a home in a lane way, all attempts to revive failed.
Temps that day were with windchill: -33 C or -27.4 F

Concerned citizen with children of his own decides to set up crowd funding to cover funeral costs -he hoped to raise $20k. It grew to just over $170k.

Today:
There are some comments being registered via social media that the deceased's family should take the $20k for the funeral costs and donate the remainder to (for example) children's charities etc etc.

There are other calls for (believe it or not) for the citizen who created the crowd funding to setup other sites to take care of the other people who need it (how dare he forget about the other people[as an example])

What are your thoughts? Why has this world become so jaded and angry - in your opinion?

24 mil DPS on a weapon?  eek

When I was playing on the PC I think my highest was 3400 (give or take) DPS? I believe I maxed out around 450k DPS and 6.5 mil toughness for my entire build and I was 245 paragon.

I seem to have met my match in Act V with Adria: The Witch (aka Spider-Woman). Any ideas? I've tried everything in my L54 Crusader toolbox, and seem wholly unable to bring her health meter below maybe 70%. Then the stupid heart slugs (or whatever) fill up the screen. If she has a weakness, I can't find it.

Nobody on bnet seems to join open multiplayer games anymore (presumably the only people left playing are L70 players now) so it doesn't seem like I can get any help on this that way.

I guess I'll Google it but thought I'd ask in case anyone here even remembers playing through Acts anymore.  icon_smile

I guess I knew sooner or later D3 would go back to pissing me off and frustrating me. Nothing like a love-hate relationship.  icon_neutral

I don't know if the PC and console versions differ in leveling speed, but you seem really low-level for that fight.  I was already at 70 and had gained a few paragon levels by that point.  You could try gaining some levels or crafting some new gear.

I agree with Eddie on this one.

I can't remember the exact build from my crusader but I was lucky enough to get the flail and shield combo that allowed me to toss the shield into battle and it just ricochet back and forth doing hundreds of K to millions of crit  damage in the meantime. Kinda cheesy but was still fun smile

33  Non-Gaming / Off-Topic / Re: Question for aviation experts - Speed of sound / size of plane? on: January 15, 2015, 04:30:34 PM
I understand that the plane was not travelling at the speed of sound. I am coming at it from the position of: they came pretty close - but even coming close did that pose any threat/risk to the fuselage? Is a plane with that type of aerodynamics meant to fly as fast OR faster as that?

edit - reply was posted at the same time as post above.
34  Non-Gaming / Off-Topic / Question for aviation experts - Speed of sound / size of plane? on: January 15, 2015, 02:59:27 PM
Earlier this week it was reported that a British Airways Boeing 777 flying from NY to London reached near super sonic speed due to the jet stream. It pushed the plane to 1200 km/h (super sonic is 1224 km/h)

http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/worldnews/northamerica/usa/11337617/Jet-stream-blasts-BA-plane-across-Atlantic-in-record-time.html

http://www.dailymail.co.uk/travel/travel_news/article-2903168/British-Airways-flight-hits-powerhouse-jet-stream-New-York-London-reaching-near-supersonic-speeds-745mph.html

Question- are planes of that size tested at those speeds? My lame brain tells me that the plane may not be designed as such.

Thoughts?

First thing to realize is that you are not abandoning your child IF you chose to leave the relationship. This point cannot be underscored enough- please realize this.

I'm going to be honest with you as you have some 'similar' things in your relationship that I have experienced.

I was married for 12yrs and have a son too.

I married for the wrong reasons and knew this from day 1 but stuck it out because:
  • I did not want to be my parents (failed marriage)
  • I did honestly think that I was in love
  • Other BS that you tell yourself to stay in it
I waited WAY TOO LONG to pull the plug on the marriage and as a result all 3 of us suffered. But I can tell you with the utmost honesty and assurance that it was the best decision in my life. There was no infidelity, drugs or booze or any of the Hollywood drama you may have read or heard about with other couples.

Did it hurt? Sure.
Was it scary? Sure.
Did I come out on the other end? (still a process) Yes
Do I get along with my ex? Yes

Looking back would I make the same decision to end the marriage? Yes

She has gone on to meet another man and is happy and I have been in a relationship with another woman for the past 6-7 months. It took me just over 2yrs to be 'ready' to date again and in that time I learned a great deal about myself.

Don't waste any more of your life is my advice. You may continue to experience (as I did) more and more resentment towards her and grow further and further apart.
