I've now played 8 hours and I have that game itch where I can't wait to get home and play it some more. That to me is the sign of a great game.
It actually reminds me of my child hood when a fantasy story could really suck me into the world, man I wish I could have played this when I was 10 years old.
There really is this charming, magical quality about the entire thing. I feel like nearly every JRPG starts this way. It's when I hit the 15-20 mark and the repetitive nature of the gameplay kicks in that I start to struggle.

Poor Vigil...that's like being the last kid standing after everyone has been picked and the teams are full.
It's especially sad since they were my favorite (and IMO the best) developers in the group. Who are they and what have they done?,can't really find anything on the net..or at least not the same Vigil i don't think Vigil made the Darksiders games, so unless someone eventually buys them, the series is likely dead Which is fine with me, Darksiders 2 is a good enough way to end the series IMO.

Also, in the Nintendo Direct video he talked about wanting to change the fundamentals of the gameplay for the new Zelda (I'm paraphrasing) and it sounded like there was the possibility of some of that showing up in WW HD. I should watch the video again when I get home, maybe my wishful thinking is getting the best of me

*Very* interested in this. It isn't as exciting as a new Zelda game, of course, but if they can find a way to improve the inventory management that plagued the GameCube version, I'll be all over this. I wonder what it is about this specific vision of Zelda that Nintendo is willing to revisit again and again. Wind Waker, Phantom Hourglass, and Spirit Tracks form a direct chronology that feels more and more distinct from the rest of the franchise. -Autistic Angel I think it's in part because most people consider Wind Waker to be the best Zelda since OoT and also because the art style is very distinct. Twilight Princess and Skyward Sword aren't nearly as distinguishable. I have mixed feelings on this remake. If it's just a graphical update I have no interest, but if they use it to test some of the gameplay changes they are planning for the new Zelda, I would be willing to try it.

Non-Gaming / Off-Topic / Good projector for movies AND gaming?

Hey GTers,
I'm in the market for a projector that, in addition to being great for movies, also holds up in quality for gaming. Any personal recommendations or good resources that I could be pointed to?
Thanks!

As reading experiences go, I can't recommend the Kindle highly enough. People can try to describe the value of an e-ink display, but ultimately it comes down to the fact that when I'm reading something worthwhile on my Kindle, I swiftly forget that I'm reading it on a Kindle at all. Get a Nexus if want lots of excuses not to read. Otherwise, get the Paperwhite! -Autistic Angel I decided on the Kindle Paperwhite and I'm extremely glad that I did. It's like you said, I soon forget I'm reading on a Kindle and not the actual book. So excited!!

Non-Gaming / Off-Topic / Kindle Paperwhite Vs. Nexus 7 - Which is better for reading?

Hey everyone. I'm thinking of getting a Kindle since I have lots of time to read on my commute to and from work. However, at $139 I feel I should just go one step further and buy the $199 Nexus 7. I don't like the experience of reading on my phone, so that makes me shy away from the idea of reading on the tablet. I want as authentic a book reading experience as possible.
Is the Kindle app on the Nexus 7 as good as a real Kindle?

Non-Gaming / Trading Forum / Massive PC Game Sale (over 70 games) - $300 obo (price lowered)

Hey everyone - I'm selling the keys to my Steam and Origin accounts. If you are interested, or know anyone who is, send me a private message and we'll talk. $450 might seem like a lot up front, but that averages to $6.50 per game which is super cheap considering some of these games are still full-priced at $40-50.

There are times when I'm flanking an enemy from within 3-4 tiles away with no objects between us, yet my hit chance will be something low like 64% and I'll miss the shot. It's a fucking stupid aiming system, I'm sorry. Again, that's not to say it isn't a good game because it's awesome in many other ways, but this one flaw drags the whole experience down for me.

It's frustrating when you miss with a high percentage chance, but that's the nature of probability.
However, I missed once on a shot with 100% chance to hit. Now THAT was rage-inducing.
That seems to indicate that the game operates with an internal precision that is higher than what it shows to the player. Your hit chance may have been 99,5% for example, which would be rounded up to 100%. That's a 1 in 200 chance of missing, but it can and will happen. It's the amount of times I've missed shots with such high chances of hitting that frustrates me. I don't believe every shot with an 80% or higher chance to hit should hit the target, but it feels undermining when I make the effort to get a clear shot on enemy just to miss it so often. Especially when we're talking about my snipers who I've outfitted with advanced scopes and selected aim enhancing abilities for.

I'm enjoying the game, but god damn is it unpolished and in need of a patch.
- It doesn't do a good job of explaining how everything works. For instance, it didn't tell me that if I sold my school (so that I could put it in a different slot, since the game pre-selects it), I would lose all my upgrades. It's a pain in the ass having a smaller squad until the new school is built.
- What's up with the aiming? There have been so many instances where I'll have as high as a 93% chance to hit and I still miss.
- The camera sucks. Stuff will be happening and I can't see it because the camera is point at something else.
- The pathing sucks... occasionally. For instance, when I'm creating my unit's path, it shows the line going around the outside of a building. Upon execution the unit runs through the building, filled with enemies set to Overwatch no less.
- Enemies shoot through walls when they aren't supposed to (the wall is not damaged, the shot just goes through). I've even seen enemies magically jump through ceilings to get onto the roof too.
- There are constant clipping issues - guns pointing through walls, etc.
I've experienced so much frustration and I'm playing on Easy! No wonder the devs are planning to patch the game and make Easy mode easier - they're trying to sweep all the dirt under the rug.

Tom scores the game low for, in his opinion, not offering anything new to the series or the genre. I haven't played the game yet myself, but even if I had and I felt otherwise, I couldn't say he was wrong because that's how he feels. If you aren't enjoying a game you shouldn't have to feel obligated to score it well because everyone else is.

The positive reception to Halo 4 is super important. It shows that MGS doesn't need Bungie, and it means that the next Xbox console will have another excellent Halo title. Great job, 343!

Edit: The [Giant Bomb] reviewer also reveals how little effort he went to to understand the mechanics of the game. He played the game online, which is why he couldn't pause. He could easily have played offline, but chose not to without thinking about the implications. As for the controls, there's a 2-page spread in the manual that shows every little nuance. Sure, the game could have explained these things better, but it's just laziness to not look in the manual.
Whoa! Hey, let's slow down here.... Are you trying to suggest that Brad Shoemaker failed to comprehend incredibly basic game play mechanics, stubbornly ignored sources of available information, and blamed the game for the consequences of his own confounding laziness? That would just be crazy. -Autistic Angel Wow, that's incredibly snide...

After watching GiantBomb's quicklook I decided I'll only play this game when it's $10 or less on Steam, and not with the intent of playing until completion but just to experience the mediocrity. It may be a big budget game, but mechanically it looks pretty bad. It would be great if they patched the shit out of it (literally).
I just read the Giant Bomb review of the game, and let me tell you, they're full of shit. The "awkward mechanics" they're talking about were second nature by the time I finished chapter 1 of Leon's campaign, and now I'm ducking, weaving, pulling up secondary weapons, healing, reloading, sliding, meleeing, and coup-de-gracing without thinking about it, instead letting me focus on the bigger picture. Useful, since the combat can be highly tactical. And 2 out of 5 stars? That's like saying the game is next to unplayable. I'd say the biggest conclusion to draw out of that review is that they put the wrong reviewer up for the job. For something that seems closer to reality, take a look at GameTrailers' review, and supplement it with their latest episode of Invisible Walls, where a panel of staff share different opinions and try to reach a conclusion. As the GT reviewer points out in that panel, some reviewers of RE6 seem to hold it to a much higher standard than other games, subtracting from its score things that would have been lauded as greatness in other games (*cough* Call of Duty *cough*). Giant Bomb's reviewer hints that he didn't like RE5 much, and that's a huge warning sign right there. If you're someone who didn't like RE5, you'll find nothing to sell you on the franchise here. On the other hand, if you did like it, this is a game you'll like. The RE series has become tainted among game reviewers, it seems. RE5 was subject to many of the same dissenting opinions (but got additional points for being "fresh", I suppose), but I liked it so much that I got a Platinum trophy for it, playing through the entire campaign 3 or 4 times. I'm finding RE6 hard to put down for the evening, wanting to do just one more encounter, which leads to another plot development, which leads to me wanting to do another encounter, and so on. It's almost going to be painful putting this aside for XCOM this week. Edit: The reviewer also reveals how little effort he went to to understand the mechanics of the game. He played the game online, which is why he couldn't pause. He could easily have played offline, but chose not to without thinking about the implications. As for the controls, there's a 2-page spread in the manual that shows every little nuance. Sure, the game could have explained these things better, but it's just laziness to not look in the manual. Actually he really enjoyed RE5, on the podcast he said he played through it three times. I witnessed the messed up mechanics while watching their quick look. Regardless of GB's take on it, it's not a phenomenon that RE6 has a metacritic of 66. Shitty games get shitty scores.

Just finished this. I honestly don't know what changed with the Extended Cut stuff but I thought the ending I got was awesome. I proceeded to watch the rest of the endings on youtube afterwards, still satisfied mine ended the way it did. If I do a second play-through, I'll make sure it ends that way again.
I'm glad I played this late, without the outcry from the internet. My experience of the series didn't end up tainted.
