I honestly thought the 3DS was dead in the water until the price drop turned things around. The combination of crummy 3D, lack of games, and the lack of a second analog stick seemed like it was a deal breaker.
I hope the Vita sees steady sales throughout the year until its components become cheaper and manufacturing costs drop allowing Sony to introduce a price cut in 2013.

Tap the back! I read this in the manual, of all places. It builds up the little avatar in the corner and unleashes more of those things that let you zap 'like' colored pieces. After I learned this I managed to keep a game rolling for over an hour.
I had no idea. Looks like I picked the wrong week to stop reading manuals. I have to say that the idea of playing Lumines for that long isn't so appealing, though. Yeah... One of my games went for about 20 minutes and I was starting to sweat. How long is a long Tetris game?

Two news bits:
1. Sony just announced that an update is coming for Vita that upgrades the browser and some other things. Also adds Skype. It's coming 'very soon'. Hopefully within days.
2. Bioshock Inifinite is coming to the Vita. YEAH baby!
Awesome! Where did you hear about Infinite coming to the Vita?

Thanks for the impressions, I was following this before release but stopped paying attention during the frenzy of new games that were released during launch.
I'll try and catch it on sale at some point.

Why are you using the analog sticks for a platformer in the first place? I need the precision of the d-pad for games like these.
There's a story behind this, and it starts with a little game called Super Mario 64... Seriously though, perhaps that's my problem because the diagonal directions on the analog sticks literally register no input which is CRAZY to me.

The question that concerns me with the market rejecting the original price point of the 3DS and seemingly rejecting (or at least resisting) the price point of the Vita, is what is the market willing to pay for then? I'm not sure how much Sony is profiting off each system sold, my guess is not much or they are breaking even, but there's no way we could have gotten something as powerful and feature-rich as the Vita at under $200.
What irks me is the idea that, if people don't want to pay more than $150-200 for a portable gaming device, the message hardware makers will take from this is to make shittier hardware. I can't imagine Sony putting out anything less than what the Vita is in 2012.
Maybe the software is the problem. If Super Mario 3D Land came out at launch, and Mario Kart 7 came out 6 months later, Nintendo could have held on to the original price point. The Vita is also lacking a killer app; Uncharted doesn't fit the bill, especially in Japan.

I love my Vita, and it's cool that port jobs are being done right, but we need to start seeing some original content soon. If we're talking about what needs to happen for the Vita to succeed, I strongly disagree. Original content isn't what makes Nintendo's consoles a success. What the Vita needs is more stuff like Uncharted. With Killzone, Little Big Planet, Resistance and similar big-name titles on the way, the Vita's popularity may continue to rise. It's extremely hard for original content to turn into system sellers. If you're talking about things you'd personally like to see, I agree however. Sorry, I should have clarified that I meant Vita-exclusive games like Uncharted: Golden Abyss, not original IPs.

Launch periods are always good for sales, now we have to watch performance over the next 4-5 months until the Holiday shopping season rolls around.

I asked this in the main Vita thread and never received an answer. Are the graphics in the Uncharted demo different than the full game? Because I thought it looked pretty bad; muddy textures, sub-30 framerate occasionally.

This is my first time playing a Lumines game, I've read the instructions on how to play and think I've gotten decent after a handful of games.
The thing is, I want to get good at Lumines. Are there any seasoned players here? Any input?

Well, that's exciting. Seems that it wasn't doing a system update because it wasn't getting a Wi-Fi signal. After experimenting a bit, turns out that I only get around 10-20% signal strength anywhere in my house unless I stand right next to my router, where I get full signal strength. Which is odd, considering all 3 of my my laptops and my iPhone get full bars anywhere in the house...hell even all the way out to my mailbox. Not even sure where I'd start troubleshooting that one. Downloading Super Stardust and Tactics Ogre right now...looking forward to digging into a few games. Bummed I can't play any of my PSX and a bunch of my PSP titles though. Asked the kid at Target if they've been selling a lot of these, and his response was "We still have 3-4 out of our initial shipment of 20 units here." Yikes. In regards to your hardware issues, that seems to be the case for most people as they acclimate themselves to the system. Once you get around those obstacles and begin to understand the finer points of operating it though, the Vita is incredibly intuitive. As for sales, I'm pretty sure I read that sales exceeded Sony's projections already. So, it's doing fine so far.

Can someone recommend which 1 or 2 titles I should check out at the to get me to think that the Vita is amazing? From my personal experience, the non big-budget titles are the most impressive. Games like Rayman Origins, Super Stardust HD, Plants Vs. Zombies Vita, and Mutant Blobs Attack look really good and are a lot of fun. I was surprised by how poor the Uncharted demo looked and played, does anyone know if the full version looks better than the demo?

Joystiq has an article about their favorite Vita tips. Here is one: 2. Let there be light. You can adjust your PS Vita’s OLED screen brightness mid-game without the hassle of jumping into the Settings menu. Just hold the PS button to bring up a quick-access menu that enables you to adjust brightness and your custom music options. Wanna listen to the soundtrack to Armageddon while carving through Ninja Gaiden Sigma Plus? Don’t miss a thing, baby.

I'm pretty sure the only thing you can take out of the original article is that Sony handles the social media for its gaming products better than Microsoft does. It has nothing to do with how many people actually like a particular system. The 3DO could have more "likes" and "followers" than the Xbox 360 if the content of its social media was better.

I love the Vita, but I'm still mixed about one aspect of it: The analog sticks. Perhaps I just need more time to get used to them, but at the moment they feel kind of small to me.
Are there are calibration tools? I'm probably being paranoid, but I feel like I may have messed up the analog sticks somehow...
Also, has anyone had their system drain completely of power while left in standby mode? About 24 hours of standby mode and the battery was empty.

Sony obviously wants me to download Virtua Tennis because I can't find it anywhere. I really don't want to go digital download route because me being able to sel them when I'm done is what helps me fund this hobby!
I had to order mine online to be shipped. Best Buy didn't stock it. Hell, I couldn't even find any reviews of it for a long time. I really want Rayman Origins for the Vita, as I tried the demo and I like the way it looks and controls better than the console version. But I already bought the console version, so the idea of paying for it again just isn't in my nature. However, if I can get it as the free one in a B2G1 sale, I'd be okay with that. Sadly, I already bought all the games I really want. I could convince myself to get BlazBlue, 'cause I like that series, but I was trying to find another title to make up the third. Virtua Tennis fit that bill perfectly. There is no way to make that deal happen. The best bets were Target and Best Buy. Target doesn't have Rayman available online, but also doesn't have any of the titles in my local stores. Best Buy doesn't carry Virtua Tennis at all. At all. I called numerous people about that, and there's no reason for it that anyone can understand, but they just don't carry it. I'll probably be done with my copy in 2-3 weeks, we can do some tradin'

Ugh, I'm not sure where in the GT bureaucracy it was decided to lump portable consoles with phone games, but I'm certainly not in support of it either. Gaming on a touchscreen is like taking the paintbrush away from an artist and telling them to use their fingers instead.

I must be blind because I am having a hell of a time finding relics in Rayman. Even the one where they introduce the concept to you took me forever to actually notice. Have any of you guys with Rayman found any others (like maybe the second one on the first level that has them) and can spoil them? I keep going through that first level that has them over and over and just cannot find the stupid thing.
You might want to ask for help in the actual game's thread, I hear it becomes mighty difficult when you try and collect everything.

Maybe he means system plus games. Correct. I was thinking system ($250) + decent memory card ($35) + a couple games ($50-80), which is $335 at a minimum before tax. Any of those without the others is a bit worthless, no? See, you and I have a difference of opinion on the meaning of "price of admission". Think of it like going to a lounge/club. The $20 cover charge would be considered the price of admission. Anything else you buy, whether it's a drink at the club or a game for the Vita, falls outside of that

Got to play Wipeout, Hot Shots Golf, and Uncharted on a Gamestop demo unit this afternoon, and finally confirmed my decision to wait on a Vita for a while. While the games certainly looked great and controlled very well, I just can't see the current lineup being worth the $350'ish price of entry. Down the road, maybe, but certainly not at this point. Will be keeping an eye on it, and hoping developers support it.
Actually it's $250ish.

I'm honestly a bit turned off by the Mass Effect 3 hype machine... It's like that kid in school desperate for attention and doing anything to get it. ME3 peripherals? Check. Launching early copies of ME3 into space? Check.
