Tilt, what did you think of the game with your new graphics card? Also, and sorry if you mentioned it before, but what's your target framerate?

I'm playing maxed at 1440p, 90FPS, and I think it's the best looking game I've seen yet. Pro tip: Turn AA off completely if you're playing at 1440p, the textures look so much better.

I'm surprised anyone is upset about this. If I was a console-only gamer I would be thrilled at the option to upgrade my system. As it stands, I already spend something north of $500/year upgrading my PC. I also upgrade my phone every 1-2 years. Get a new car lease every 3 years. Seems to match the cadence of every other toy in my life  icon_lol

I think the graphics are decent on the Xbox, although the film grain and blur/ghosting effects are overdone. I finally got my PC code yesterday and, although I only played for about 15 minutes, it didn't seem bad. Definitely an improvement over the Xbox version in terms of clarity/sharpness and framerate.

I got to Act 3 last night, so far loving the story.
4  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: [XB1]Quantum Break on: April 08, 2016, 09:17:54 PM
I think you can pause the game at any moment, so in the case of the radio clips just pause the game and it'll resume when you unpause. But yeah, I was feeling the same about the movie after Act 1. The movie was cool but it was almost like an episode of a real show. Emails can also really long but I just skim through if it doesn't seem interesting, like the email that details the plans for the protest, for example.

By the way, has anyone who pre-ordered on XB1 gotten their Win 10 key yet? I still haven't gotten mine.
6  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: [XB1]Quantum Break on: April 06, 2016, 05:08:46 PM
I played through the first act last night on Xbox and think it's brilliant so far. It takes the same narrative beats from Alan Wake but there's more interaction with other characters so it feels less lonely than Max Payne 1/2 and Alan Wake. So far the game seems really strong - the story is intriguing and had me hooked within the first five minutes, the characters are likable and believable, the dialogue is great, there are tons of "objects" to examine which encourages level exploration.

The mechanics feels a bit loose and floaty after playing The Division (I compare because QB is also a cover shooter), but I've gotten used to it and doesn't detract from the gameplay. The time manipulation mechanic is a lot more combative than I was expecting - you can generate shields, slow time in specific spots (as in you can "cast" it on a specific enemy), use it blink through time as a dodge, and so on.

All in all, it's oozing with Remedy's unique style of game design and if you enjoyed their previous games it's pretty obvious, even so early into the game, that QB probably won't let you down.

I was curious so I went back and looked at the reception that Alan Wake received; they are actually pretty similar review wise.  That gives me some hope that I will still enjoy the game.  I’m in no hurry though considering Microsoft is locking the PC version behind the Windows 10 store.

That's how I'm approaching it too. Alan Wake received above average reviews but I loved it and it's one of the few games I've played through twice. Remedy's games are an acquired taste and never quite fit into conventional genres, which the media never seem capable of grasping.
8  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: [ps4, Xbox1] Resident Evil 4, 5 an 6 on: February 26, 2016, 11:09:51 PM
They have to mitigate the revenue bleeding (50% drop yoy in 2015) somehow, and new games aren't their strong suit.
9  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: [XB1] Halo 5 on: February 26, 2016, 06:08:21 PM
Has anyone gone through a decent amount, or all, of the campaign with a co-op partner? I'm making my way through the campaign now solo (I put the game down at launch week and it's taken months to get back to it!) and it's plainly obvious that the levels are designed for multiple people (real people, not bots) in mind. I imagine it being a blast in co-op.

For anyone interested I see Giant Bomb did a (50 minute) Quick Look of this one:

A little worried that they say it basically feels like a Far Cry game where all of the content is side missions.

Primal doesn't have the same narrative focus as FC3 and FC4, that's where I think some people are feeling a disconnect. The emphasis in Primal is the world itself, basically all the stuff you were doing in the previous games when you weren't progressing through the main story path.

I know what you mean, Bullwinkle. It was the same for me with Watch Dogs - had I not been able to turn off the radio (and in WD you can just turn it off permanently in the options) I wouldn't have been able to play it.

A new PC patch was released today, nothing major but still an improvement.
13  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: [XB1]Quantum Break on: February 12, 2016, 05:34:32 PM
I'm surprised that they are recommending 16GB of RAM. I haven't found ANY games that take advantage of more than 8GB, have any of you?
14  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: Origin Access, the PC equivalent of EA Access, is now available on PC on: February 08, 2016, 05:42:32 PM
I logged into Origin for the first time since signing up for Origin Access and was dismayed by the lack of titles available. I thought EA Access on consoles offered up to 10 hours on ANY EA game - Battlefront, Titanfall, what have you. That wasn't the case, though. I cancelled the service, I'll be putting a few hours into Unravel and then moving on.

19  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: The Witness on: January 27, 2016, 04:55:02 PM
I just learned that the game doesn't have music? Has that affected anyone's enjoyment of it? The developers and media have been comparing it to Myst, which I was excited for, but a huge part of the Myst experience was the soundtrack. Not that The Witness needs to be like Myst for me to enjoy it, but they shouldn't be compared to each other, despite the similarities of being on an island and solving puzzles.

I'm super excited for Unravel, and the fact that they green lit a new Mirror's Edge is really encouraging. If Mass Effect Andromeda ends up coming out this year (I doubt it), I'll be spending a lot of time with EA games this year.

Nothing in 2016 piques your interest? Unravel, Mass Effect (maybe), Mirror's Edge?
24  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: Best video game trailers on: January 13, 2016, 04:40:49 PM
I don't think I've ever seen a better trailer than the one for Starcraft 2: Legacy of the Void. A lot of trailers rely on a good soundtrack to draw a crowd (a cheap trick IMO), but Legacy's trailer was pure awesome.

It sounds weird but I tend to watch trailers without sound the first time to avoid getting tricked by my emotions.
25  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Origin Access, the PC equivalent of EA Access, is now available on PC on: January 13, 2016, 04:33:39 PM
EA's Origin Access was launched today for PC. I had no interest in EA Access for Xbox but I've signed up for Origin. There's a lot of EA games I have only a passing interest in, such as Battlefront and Need for Speed, which I wouldn't pay $60 each for, but will gladly pay $5/mo to put a few hours into. I'll also use it for Unravel next month.

Anyone else planning to sign up, or are currently a member of EA Access?

27  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: [PC, PS4, XB1]Homefront: Revolution on: January 12, 2016, 05:22:42 PM
I played this at PAX Prime last year and was surprised at some of its more unique aspects. It's definitely not a mindless shooter, enemies are tough and you need to be strategic about your movement and your approach to enemies. There's also a motorcycle that, despite some clumsy controls, is fun to ride around in. The levels are actually designed with the motorcycle in mind, so there are tunnels, ramps, and the like all over the place.

I'm keeping an eye on this one.
28  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: Oculus Rift VR headset on: January 07, 2016, 03:32:56 AM
It's not literally a beta test but we're calling it that because because no one knows how it's going to perform in real world circumstances. Will it get uncomfortable quickly (I personally have never been able to keep the thing on my head for more than 20 minutes)? Are VR tailored games going to be fun for more than 15 minutes at a time? For games not tailored for VR but adapted to it, will a standard gaming setup still ultimately be preferable?

Sure, being an early adopter for, say, the Wii or the iPhone was risky too, but at least there is precedent for their use (console, phone). This thing, despite all the hype, might not have ANY practical use. And it's incredibly expensive.
29  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: Oculus Rift VR headset on: January 06, 2016, 05:18:53 PM
I can't justify a nearly $700 price tag (including tax and shipping) for this thing, that's too high a price to be a beta tester.

33  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: Life is Strange on: January 03, 2016, 07:24:35 PM
I finally got around to finishing the last two episodes after letting them hang for months and wow... what an amazing game. Sprawling RPGs are typically the ones lauded for their character development and story but as far as I'm concerned LiS takes the cake. Has anyone else played through it?
34  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: Project Morpheus: Sony Playstation VR on: December 30, 2015, 05:54:24 PM
They haven't... I don't think that's part of the plan. If anything I'd say it's a fairly sure thing that it won't ever work with a PC (outside of the hacker community enabling it) because that might keep people from potentially buying a PS4.
35  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: [PC/PS4/XB1]Rainbow 6: Siege on: December 30, 2015, 05:48:38 PM
Is anyone still playing this? My opinion is biased but it's by far the most fun I've had in a MP shooter since either Counter-Strike or Battlefield: Bad Company 2. My co-workers and I regularly play during our lunch hour and at least a couple evenings a week are dedicated to playing with my friends.
36  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: 2016 gaming resolution on: December 30, 2015, 05:46:56 PM
Oh, I forgot one HUGE gaming resolution; include my wife more in my gaming activities. This year I brought her to BlizzCon with me which was fantastic, I'm hoping in 2016 I can bring her to PAX Prime since we both love Seattle anyways. We even had some fun playing coop games like Resogun and Diablo 3. I'm hoping in 2016 we do more gaming (and gaming-related) stuff together.
37  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: 2016 gaming resolution on: December 30, 2015, 05:40:42 PM
My resolution for 2016 is to finish more games than I did in 2015. I let a lot of games this year just sort of trail off and go unfinished - MGS 5, Witcher 3, GTA V, and a few others. Granted, all of those games are way too fucking long for most people to finish, but I'd still like to finish what I start which probably means simply buying less games.

Gratch, my advice is to come up with a gaming schedule. It's what I've done and it's a schedule my wife has agreed to, which means she isn't harboring resentment towards me for playing video games anymore, and also gives me more time to exercise, or see friends, or what have you. My schedule is usually Tuesday and Sunday evenings which affords me about 6-8 hours of solid game time each week which is about all I need.

38  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: Project Morpheus: Sony Playstation VR on: December 28, 2015, 06:05:36 PM
It's going to be the cheapest path to VR (unless you include Samsung Gear VR), since the HTC Vive and Oculus Rift will require a powerful PC.
