Finally downloaded my copy. That…took a while on wireless.
Gameplay is fun but nothing spectacular. I’m a little disappointed with the usage of the WiiU pad. At this point I compare everything to ZombiU which used the pad perfectly but here it feels more tacked on than useful. On that note, the scanning mini game is annoying.
Humor is good in a corny slapstick sort of way. I’ve found myself laughing a number of times already. Graphics are actually a lot worse than I was expecting. On my 60inch TV the jaggies are VERY noticeable, more so than in any other WiiU game I’ve played.
On the whole though it seems solid enough.
Disagree with all that, superb game, best of the lego games easily. Best use of the pad so far found but not had Zombiu so that may colour my view of it. Love the comedy, love the setting, spend way longer just dossing round rather than doing the missions. All round a superb game, hopefully Lego Superheroes will be even better. Only thing missing is co op with my son, having to take it in turns is hard work for both of us Also to add playing on my 24" monitor at 4ft and it looks great.

Honestly, Reemul, if you are more interested in having the disc version I wouldn't let the load times put you off. It's a minor annoyance on a fun game, and once you're past the intro stuff it seems like you hit loading screens less often.
That's good, i'm not overly bothered by the loading screen, its the nipper i'm thinking off, they can lose focus in the time it takes to say hello to them

Yeah, the load times really kill this thing.
The driving isn't as bad as I was fearing, but that aspect clearly needed just a little bit more time in the oven.
Is it possible to install to an external hard drive or even something they may look at? Ahem. After doing some digging I did find some comparison people have had between the start-up load times and in game load times. There is some variance based on the quality of external drive you use but most people experience 15-20 second faster boot up times and 5-8 second faster in game load times when using the downloaded version versus the disk version. Not exactly a huge difference but it might be enough to sway people towards the download version if you have a HD handy.
yeah what I meant was could you buy the disc version, add an external drive and install to it. I have 2 500gig HDD's doing nothing much and could stick one on the Wii U because i'm not keen on buying the download and being stuck with it on my one console, also there is no trade in value but whether this is something I would keep after completing im not sure.

Frustrating in that normally the US gets them on a Tuesday and UK on the Friday. Could be with MH3U out this Friday they have delayed it for the Easter weekend. Hopefully Monster Hunter arrives tomorrow, and Lego for a 5 day Easter break should be perfect as well.

So did anyone pick this up? I ended up holding off after learning that I wouldn’t be able to download it without an add-on hard drive.
Don't think it's actually out yet, next Tuesday could be US release date and Thurs in Europe/UK due to the Bank Holiday weekend.

It's no more unrealistic to me than say, Walking Dead and it's zombies or Battlestar Galactica and their Cylons (both of which I love) watching it simply for what it's intended, as entertainment.
I'm not sure why you keep insisting that fiction doesn't have to be well written to be good. Not sure I always agree with this, sometimes being entertaining can be enough, some books and shows are shallower and yet still fun and have their place the same is more in depth or better written shows. Entrainment is what matters and that always seems to be where critics fall down, entertainment value but some can at times just be ignored.

Um, I hope this is a stupid question but have you tried interacting with the game pad? If I recall the initial setup only displays on the handheld screen.
If it’s running its update don’t turn it off. If you do you will brick it.
Yeah everything initially is done via the gameplay. Took a little getting used to.

I have Nintendo Land which is pretty good, Super Mario U which is great and I am also getting Monster Hunter 3 this week and Lego undercover next week. ZombiU sounds great actually I thought it was a more fps Zombie game so might have to get that as well.
I am also playing some stuff from the Wii backlog which includes Skyward Sword and Twilight Princess, No More Heroes 2, Muramasa and Mad World. (I never had a Wii I could play this stuff on often.

Wii U sounds more and more of a complete clusterfuck as weeks go by
Not sure where you are hearing that. My family loves the Wii U. They have sunk countless hours into Mario, Nintendoland, and Skylanders U. I'm going to buy Lego City for them and that will be another month of playing time. Best part is that they can play on the controller while I watch TV. That's good that you are enjoying it,but from launch it just seems a week can't go by when something bad about it gets reported..be it from the start-Massive firmware update that takes hours to dl/install,Battery life ridiculously low for the controllers, less than a hand full of games,3rd party games costing more than the 360/PS3 versions,A lot of 3rd party games not even appearing on the Wii U,Miyamoto coming out this week and saying that(he thinks) the interface performance will be improved this summer, shitty HDD means you need to buy a External HDD-but you still pay £300+ for the sucker The machine is what?..4 months old?,I am not sure how many games have actually been released up to now,i just know in the last month two games were released for it and one of them was a Wii Shop game that's just the top of my head(not included this weeks disppointing sale numbers),and TBH it just sounds like the Wii U was rushed to market Off course, this is all from an outsiders PoV,i have not got a Wii U Well I bought mine 2 weeks ago and it came with updated firmware. I am happy with mine, Eldest who is 6 loves it and I am looking forward to Monster Hunter and Lego Undercover. It is true there isnt that much more to play at the moment but I have other consoles and the PC to fill in with until other things come out. There are issues but it's not the end of the world and imo the console has its place and with more First party games it will sit in a certain niche. Price is a bit steep. If it could hit the £199 / $199 price point for the 32gig version that may help, slightly too expensive but that may change by the time PS4 and 720 is out and maybe hitting the 300/400 price point. I think people who have it enjoy it for what it is and ignore those that slam it but dont have it.

Eurogamer clarifies a little bit, saying that the game is rumored to be 22GB, which just about fills the 25GB available on the bigger Wii U, which is why some of the comments have been about needing the drive to download any extras or updates. Only for the digital version not the disc one. I have a couple of external hdd's didn't realise they could be supported but I'm still going the disc route. 22 gig stream from the disc, could be the reason for slow load times.

Have to say I trust Eurogamer much more than Edge.
this. I may wait for a sale though; I've still got Lego Batman 2 and Lord of the Rings waiting to be played. I've finished Lego Batman 2 and my son hates LOTR so we need a new one

Well the edge have only reviewed a few lego games and a 6 is their best score, eurogamer have given a couple of 9's.
It seems if you like the lego games this could be their best one yet. I'm definitely in as I just got the Wii U for Lego and Monster Hunter 3.
The only disappointing thing is no multiplayer as I was hoping to play with my son but we will instead have to play separate games.
Really if I want the game unless the reviews are mega low I will pick it up, can always trade it in if its a disaster for Monster Hunter.

I just got it. Hate the button mashing. Hate the platform feel to it. Forgot that TR is all that. I think I'll just fire it up now and then and watch her hair blowing in the wind... Forum Effect = 1 Arclight = 0 Did you play past the first hour or so? The beginning of the game is heavily scripted and full of QTEs meant just to get you into the story. Once you land on the island and make your way to the first campfire, it opens up and gameplay changes significantly. This is definitely a huge departure from the older Tomb Raider games (so you still might not like it), but don't let the first bit color your judgement of the title; it's really not representative of it. Yeah this, it's not really like the old style TR games and for me it's better for it.

Farting is funny
Yep I have to 2 boys aged 6 and 2, the little guy farts like there is no tomorrow and giggles away. I like dropping the word fart in when they do one just to get the wife going, or even worse and doing a fart in bed

on the other hand, if you are out at a party or wherever and you start talking to other adults there, when someone says, " In my spare time I still like to game" .. bingo instant connection, and you grab a beer and go off talking about our great hobby.
Yep just like sports, gaming is an instant attraction between people even if they are relative strangers.

I read it, all pretty much spot on. No matter how main stream gaming now is as an over 40 thing it isn't. And as usual some parents have no interest in learning what it is their children are doing.
For me its important that I understand it so when my kids play it and use I can make an informed decision on it rather than just say yes or no and hope I'm getting it right.
Also people that don't game seem to think all we do in our spare time is game yet all a lot of them do is watch that widescreen thing in the lounge as if its a better use of their time. I always say well I have these hobbies and it includes gaming but al you do is watch tv and that's better!!!

I lucky in that while my wife doesnt do PC gaming she is happy to. play a few bits on her iPhone so understands what and why me and the boys play.
I don't bother with those that don't game, they never get it in the same way I never get other people's hobbies I have no interest in.
