I ultimately quit UO because I hated getting ganked and losing my stuff but I must say there were a few times where I was able to take advantage as well.

Once I was travelling down the road and found a backpack.  Even though a little alarm was going off in my head I checked it.  Next thing I know I'm dead and some guy steps from behind a tent with a crossbow to take everything I had.

Then there was the time I was walking down the road and found a guy dead full of all kinds of armor and stuff I'd never seen.  I looted just as fast as I could and ran.

The biggest though, was the time a friend and I were running through the wilderness and I guess we found where a house had just decayed or something because we found a treasure trove of chests and all kinds of gear just laying around.  We were in the middle of grabbing all we could when a portal opened and some guy in full plate stepped out.  We both recalled as fast as possible.

I still quit UO in disgust though.

I made a revisit soon after the Dungeons of Norrath expansion and started over from scratch.  It was a fantastic expansion and kept me busy for 4-6 months and I managed to level 2 toons to 40+.  The goblin camps In Butcherblock had their loot tables redone and they would drop items worth 1-3 plat.  This made outfitting a newb very easy.  I was dumbfounded that most folks had no idea about this as I was constantly getting compliments on my gear for my level(having no high lvl mains to twink).  Good stuff!  I think I'll revist;)

Hey I remember those days!

Damn people, what about Commando?

Commando
Spy Hunter
Star Wars
Gauntlet (but I was always intimidated about how many quarters I could lose so quickly)

I never felt the love but Track and Field was huge.

+1

My wife and I have a theory that there are two kinds of people in North America - Seinfeld people and Friends people.  We find Friends absolutely laugh out loud hilarious.  Seinfeld is boring in the extreme.

I like them both, except the last few seasons of friends where Ross turned into an absolute girly man.  Seinfeld is total genius but the comic was kind of meh.

Start with the original series and watch all that one.

Start with the original series and watch one episode.  That'll be enough to make you cringe in horror.  Might I recommend one with the kid and the robot dog?  Yeah.  That'd be a good place to start.

Then watch the new miniseries and the rest of the new show.  And be amazed at the improvement in sci-fi since the 70's.

I'll be the first to admit that the robot dog was ridiculous but you can't find anything good about the original series?  Seriously?

I'll add mine as soon as I can.  If anyone wasn't aware, there are some sidequests that can only be unlocked by sending mog-mail to other people.  Timely thread!

What do the side quests add? (As in, is it worth it? Tongue)

My brother-in-law who is mostly on top of his FF stuff says that you need to get mail from like 10 people or something to get the very best weapons in the game.  He's pissed and I tend to agree if that's true.

I've really never played any games in the Battlefield series.  I downloaded the demo for BF1942 or whatever but that's it.

The demo for BF1942 was the single most influential demo I have ever played.  It was also the one I played the most. By far.

Looking forward to 2142 though I'm not really tired of BF2.

Wouldn't this basically be because Turbine is out on its own now and probably doesn't want to be Microsoft's bitch anymore...or did Turbine take all control over AC2?  I forget.

Turbine bought out the rights to AC2 and rereleased the games with the Legions upgrade.  Looks like the plan didn't work and they didn't get enough players to make the game successful.

the game looked pretty good, but it just didn't hold my interest.  There was just too much of a grind going on.

AC 1 was the game that Turbine bought from Microsoft and Throne of Destiny was the expansion that was just released with the graphics upgrade.  AFAIK AC2 was always Turbine's game.

AC 1 was great fun and I played it for several years but AC 2 just didn't do anything for me, other than pretty graphics.

113  Gaming / Multiplayer Madness (MMO or otherwise) / Looking for comparison - EQ2 and WOW on: December 02, 2004, 09:10:26 PM
Fez, congrats on an outstanding comparison there.  I think you managed to walk the line without falling into either camp and you gave some genuinely helpful information.

The only small point of contention I would have is that you say you don't always get updates in EQ when you gain an item towards a quest.  I've found that even if I don't have it up in the quest helper window I still get an audio cue and text in the very middle of the screen saying what I've gathered.
114  Gaming / Multiplayer Madness (MMO or otherwise) / EQ2. i hate it. on: December 01, 2004, 10:13:07 PM
I play EQ2 and really enjoy it.  I wish I could play WoW also, but I don't have time so I have to pick one.  I'm sure it's awesome.

I guess it's useless to try to play peacemaker in one of these threads because there's nothing like competing MMOs to get the 'my game is better than yours' juices flowing.

Eh, carry on.
