41  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: Dawn of War 2 sp campaign on: March 31, 2009, 07:06:13 PM
I'm playing the SP campaign with a friend and we've usually been able to plan out what we want to do during a mission with plenty of success.  We certainly take longer than 10 minutes but I would say somewhat less than 1 hour per mission.

The 'characters' are already fairly specialized and we're pretty much taking them further in the directions they already lean.  I usually handle Tarkus and Avitus, providing ranged supports and my buddy runs the FC and more often Thaddeus for the melee portion.  It works well for us.

There is a Steam group playing CoH?  Is everyone good?

I'd like some game but I'm pretty bad.
43  Non-Gaming / Off-Topic / Re: Battlestar Galactica Season 4.5 Starts Tonight! (SPOILERS!!!) on: March 31, 2009, 06:25:03 AM
I just finished watching and for me the show had a perfect story arc.  I like explosions as much as the next guy, but when they mostly went away I was okay because by then I was invested in the characters.

The character of Bill Adama is easily my favorite of all time and the final scenes with him and Laura were amazing.

okay, tried and bought Cod4 now...and,eh...its an arcade killfest..thats all

THe maps are small, you die every other second, and there's no teamwork whatsoever...

WaW, with its bigger maps, allow for more tactics, and I hate to say this, but BF2 has far superior gameplay, in terms of squads being usefull, tactics likewise, and you can actually stay alive longer than 10-15 seconds at a time.

I mean, come on, I was at a map that had us spawning literally on top of eachother?? I died every other  second due to grenades, since that was all people did, or, from someone spawning RIGHT on top of me....

THe SP experience seems fun though

Try the maps:  Crossfire or District.  The action is still very immediate but rarely are you spawn camped.  Actually, you're almost never spawn camped in CoD4 except in shipment and probably killhouse as those two are very small maps.  None of them are even near as big as a BF2 map.  Overgrown is one of the larger maps but I don't care for it much--you might like it as it is a little more spread out.

The voice acting is absolutely the worst ever and since you get to hear it over and over again it kind of grates.  The Russian voiceover sounds pretty much Japanese and the German voiceover is so over the top that it drives me nuts.  I'm pretty sure the American voiceover is Jack Bauer and even that gets old quickly.

Yup, if you do drugs before you play that's more or less how it will sound.  Roll Eyes

I'm not talking about the single player campaign.  I'm talking about the voice overs in multiplayer..when the Russians call for artillery it sounds like pretty much anything but Russian and since you get to hear it 50 times a match, it grates.

That's okay though, I'm not grading for reading comprehension.
46  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: Call of duty - World at war, or CoD4? on: March 29, 2009, 05:36:35 AM
Single player in CoD4 is amazing, if frustrating at times.  It is the only CoD I've played until just picking up WaW a couple of weeks ago.  The multiplayer in CoD4 is 100% infantry based--no vehicles.  Many people prefer this and while I'm not one of them, I certainly cannot complain.

So far in WaW I have only played the multiplayer and while I'll grant that I'm only level 15 or so, I don't find it anywhere near as compelling as 4.

I desperately want in on this but can't seem to make BF2 recognize my user name and password that haven't changed since I stopped playing a few years ago.  I mean, the game saves them.  I haven't had to input them again ever.

I tried changing the password and it brought up a gamespy interface but I still wasn't successful.

Wife and I really like Marc and wish he'd have made it further but that's the way it sometimes works on that show..the people you like get voted off regardless of their apparent safe position and the douchbags manage to last way longer than they should.

Generally in the same boat as most others here.  This season is pretty lame from a 'no way in hell that could happen' standpoint but I guess they all have been in one way or another.  I think it's pretty bad though and the wife and I just watch it because we are invested in the characters.

Just watched this weeks episode tonight on the DVR and the only plot line / character I cared about got done what he needed to get done so as far as the rest of the show is concerned I don't care.

We'll probably watch it all but they really need to make this the last season.

I live about 95 miles south of Buchanan County and the wonderful metropolis within it, Grundy, Virginia, and I can say that yes, it indeed is one of the most backwards, and racist places in the country. I vividly recall playing Grundy High School in Basketball when I was in High School and seeing a sign posted in someones yard near the county line that said, "Nigger don't let the sun shine on you in Buchanan County". That wasn't 1962, it was in 1992.

Amazingly, it is big time union country, the UMWA is very powerful up there and Obama probably will do pretty good there based solely on the support of the UMWA. Kerry and Gore both won it.

What I find amazing, yet not at all surprising, is the assumption that a region that is heavily democratic/unionized can't be heavily racist as well.

When I saw the previews I thought this was mindless summer filler and I was pretty much right except that it is hilarious and we love it.  For me it's the commentary and the effects way  more than the actual wipeouts (though those are good too).

Uh, keep listening she came into her own in a pretty big way.

I was way late to the party on this series and for some reason it took me well over a year to make it through Clash of Kings.  I had a couple false starts--not because the book was bad but because my routines weren't lending themselves to reading at all.  I'm a little over halfway through A Storm of Swords now.  I guess I'm finally over all the raunchy stuff that I feel is so not needed (no I'm not a prude).  It really bothered me in the first book but story is so damn good that I've come to terms pretty easily.

P.S. I have heard several people talk about playing Diablo 1 at various levels of difficulty. I don't remember there being more than one level of difficulty in Diablo 1. Am I missing something?

I thought the Butcher quest was hard coded into every game.  I'm almost sure it was.
