I'm interested in DOTA2, but I'm concerned about the learning curve and non-noob friendliness...
Sure - shoot me a pm with your steam ID or email, and I'll send it to you. And you can always try it out with Bots only at first :-)

Hi, so, I got this idea from another site I frequent, and thought we should have it here as well. The idea is, that if you have any games, preferably keys to games, you can give them away to your fellow GT members here.
As of right now, I have 5 DOTA 2 keys I'd like to offer to anyone on GT (Who hasn't registered just to get the keys).
Anyways, shoot me a PM about the DOTA 2 keys, and post here if you have anything you'd like to offer up for grabs.

One interesting thing about this whole thing, is that I saw over at Qt3 a guy who knew the lead writer on AC3 shoot him an instant message, asking if the slanted view on the Templars and their actions was on purpose, and basically he said yes it was, since , and this is important, what you are playing is MEMORY, i.e with it carries impressions and as such your view of the world and actions taken by those in it, is influenced by that worldview. The fact that they had taken THAT into account, makes me see the game in another light, which is kinda interesting. Ah, here it is: Whatever other issues with the plot/script, the difference in the portrayal of the Templars between Haythem and Connor was, indeed, a purposeful narrative device based on character POV. Shot a quick DM to main AC writer Corey May, and his basic reply:
"Yes. Exaggerated to make a point. Maybe went a bit too far. But Lee was also known for being short-tempered and un-charismatic."

Regarding comments on the frontpage - Can you make it so that one can see from outside the article, i.e. just the frontpage, how many comments there are to an article?
I'm tryin', I'm tryin' Not the first time you hear that? :-) And thanks!

Just sent you an email directly. Our system's emails are getting bounced back at us due to Comcast's settings, hence your reset email not coming through. The second one won't let you post until you verify your email address with a link in an email that got bounced back at us I signed up for an account on the frontpage as well, but no confirmation email here either. edit: I was too quick - got the confirmation email now!

What I'm asking is a philosophical question, though, not a cultural one. Shouldn't anyone who has faith really ask themselves why they should invest that faith in the religion they practice vs. another?
They don't because it has been drilled into them by society and their surroundings not to do so. It's as natural as breathing to understand that that faith in particular is the right one. As I wrote earlier, its very difficult to go beyond one's cultural upbringing, which is the philosophical part you are asking about, but its based on upbringing.

I think we have had that discussion not that long ago? As others have pointed out as well, others do what GT does, and unfortunately to my mind, better. If you are asking why, I do think it has to do with, as I also mentioned previously, to me the frontpage has no soul whatsoever. Its just a mashing of news articles that I can find anywhere on the net. Granted, most of the reason is just that I started viewing RPS a while ago, and that has just stuck. I find that they are quite good journalists whose writing I really like, but then again, I actually havent read a frontpage on GT in over a year. I'm confused how you can say that folks are doing it better when you've not read what we've done for a year? We've run articles, top 10 lists, and have a lot of new stuff in store, but if folks are happy to pack up and shrug off the front page, then what's the point of this forum? As I also mentioned sometime ago in another post, GT has become another of the 7-10 score sites, where you pretty much never go below a 7 in reviewing a game, and thats a shame, since the scale is 1-10! I know last time you responded you thought you had a 60 something somewhere, but hey, thats not the point. The point is the scoring doesn't matter when you do it like this - its just noise without any meaningful disctinction. (EDIT: Ha, I just saw the two 60+ reviews on the frontpage now!) We have one review that's 11% out of 100%. Our average review score over 2000+ reviews is around 79%, backed up by some quick math checks of my own and that of the aggregation sites out there. I applaud the 1-10 folks, but that's not how we built our scale. If all you want is a number, I think you've missed the point of the review. We put a lot of time, personality, and effort into our reviews, but it seems like some folks want a number, the pros and cons, and that's it. Again, it's hard to see 'personality' if you don't read below the fold. As I also pointed out, I have no idea what GT stands for right now, if anything. For lack of better words, to me the site's frontpage lacks personality, so I never go there. What personality is missing? I don't let our editors turn into snarky assholes like I see for most of the sites out there as I expect more from journalism in general. I don't know what else we can get on the front page to get folks to read, but hell, if coverage of indie games, coverage of dlc, coverage of the AAA titles, videos, podcasts, and editorials won't do it I might as well just pack up and quit. Looking at the posting stats though, it doesnt look good. 2500 posts vs 5000 last years december? The forum activity IS declining. The forums are being unified with the front page, so hopefully he deluge of traffic there offsets the decline in the forums. I know old GG'ers were used to Rich not updating for months at a time so they didn't bother with the front page, but I can't understand why folks don't realize that's not how things have ever worked here. Okay, lets take this one step at a time, then. Reviews - I personally don't care about score, and you say that people apparently want a score? They don't - Look at how RPS works, which is a pretty successful site. They don't give scores out on their reviews. Now, I understand that if you want to be part of something like Metacritic, you have to have review scores, but that's the only reason I can think of. As for the 1-100, and 1-10, I think that's a discussion for another time, because clearly I'm not getting my point across. Personality : Writing is hard. Take it from me, I've been working in sales and marketing for 13 years by now, and a its a golden truth that you have about 10 seconds to win over any costumer, be it by writing or talking. Since I read RPS a lot, I'll compare you guys to them. You have in your "About us" three people that all excel in technical areas, but not one journalist. That means, not one of you guys are, as far as I KNOW of course, trained in writing, and again - Writing is HARD! I've spent some time reading your reviews last night and this morning, and while its clear you care about what you do, its just not very interesting (to me) to read your writing. You don't show much personality from yourselves, or the site in the writing, and THAT is what I'm talking about. While its not uncommon for everyone to think they can write, its very few that actually can, so that it is both entertaining and understandable. Now, you may think I'm bashing your site, but I'm not - I'm telling you my opinion based on many years both in gaming, and with a nod to my professional background, but - Your writing does not grab me. Forum numbes/frontpage combination: I'll look forward to seeing how this will end up! More people can only be good. One last think regarding your answer to me: We've run articles, top 10 lists, and have a lot of new stuff in store, but if folks are happy to pack up and shrug off the front page, then what's the point of this forum? I think you are mistakenly mixing two groups there. The forumgoers and the frontpage viewers. Its been clear for some time, and repeated oft enough by others here, that these are largely not the same. If you only want the frontpage viewers in the forums, its going to be a lonely place.

The thing I don't get about faith - why is the story of Christianity more worthy of blind acceptance than the story of Hinduism, and vice versa?
eh? Who says it is so? I genuinly don't follow your reasoning here. If you are asking because you were brought up to be a christian, its simple - Cultural upbringing, thats all. Its, whether you like it or not, such a big part of how we act that its VERY hard to put oneself outside it.

I predict this will be very bad!
Edit: To elaborate, since I got distracted when I posted this - Its been in development for quite a while, and as far as I can remember, has been in what..2 or 3 different developer hands by now? So far the animatios and videos I've seen looks stilted and outdated.
I wish I was wrong, I really do - we NEED more Alien franchise thingies, but my gut tells me this isn't the thing.

Given the amount of time, effort, and money I and others put into this place, posts like this just break my heart. I really don't know what to do other than more - write more reviews, write more articles, write more news. We've got big plans for 2013 and it's my hope that folks take a moment to see it. Honestly, the forums baffle the hell out of me. For instance, when we post up more videos than GameTrailers.com and then somebody comes in the next day and links to some other site rather than taking a second to look at the work we put in, it just stings. When it happens nearly all of the time it just makes me completely confused. I'd gladly take suggestions on how to make it better.

Netflix is awesome- I just got it last december and am loving it. I understand we don't have as big a catalogue yet as the US does, but with all these new deals, I see more and more stuff being added every day to it. Its not new stuff, but its a LOT Of good stuff. For instance, they have all of buffy, so I'm using that to educate my youngest girl, and so far, after 1½ season she is loving it :-)

Granted, I haven't kept up with Avril Lavigne lately, but I can't be the only who loved her first album and her "Nobody's Home" song?
I know she deviated quite a bit into more standard popmusic, but Pink did the same, and she managed to find her own sound again.
I suspect its a matter of record labels wanting to market and label the artists with the current top hit type of music, not unlike how EA and other giants wants to decide the direction of games solely due to spreadsheet calculations.

Oh relax, I'm just teasing him.
I'm quite relaxed, actually - it just seems like bullying by now instead. I doubt he finds it particulary funny, so right now you are just making fun of him to amuse who..you? Others? There is a difference between light-hearted good banter, and what happens here. While its no big deal at all, its just weird that its necessary to do.

I suppose it's better than remaking another property from the 80's. If you're going to do it, wait 50 years and remake a classic, I guess.
The 1959 was a remake itself, actually, of a movie from 1925. Both are inspired by the 1880 book by Lew Wallace. Its just the way things roll :-)

There is no need to ever respec your character in any way - this is the beauty of the system. Its pretty fast to get enough AP to try out other skill areas - its much faster than starting over, at least, since your character is better now than a beginning character.
I don't think there is an AH of any kind, nor a bank although the last thing I can't remember.
I think it depends on the level of the item whether you can dissemble it or not.

Cultural upbringing is a hard one to move away from. Its easy to spot here who adheres to the American way of thinking, and who doesn't. Thats not to say one culture is better than another, but sometimes it pays to think about things you take for granted and then perhaps see if it's the product of cultural upbringing, which often adheres to outmoded or old standards that doesn't apply to current times.
Nipple showing is one such example - That such an uproar could be generated over a wardrobe failure is amazing. As several others have pointed out, a nipple isn't automatically a sex thing- its just another part of a human being. Hey, we all have them! But that specific part of the human body is prohibited to show? Why? Its not like its sex in any way?
Its also interesting to note that on a forum like this, we have rules regarding nudity, but none regarding depicting violence? This can be seen explicitly in threads like the 100+ pages fun pictures thread, where several gifs are rather graphic.

The one thing I don't understand, is who is going to buy the console? PC gamers have their pc's,and most don't want to give up the freedom, unless of course its marketed as a console instead of a pc, meaning its a supplement instead of replacement.
Also, how is distribution going to happen? Gamestop is sure as hell not going to carry it, since its a console that will completely cut them away. That leaves normal electical outlets but they have the same reservations so...digital purchases ala Amazon is all I see is left, and thats a big thing to mass-market and sell over the net solely.

Its because Valve fears for the future, where things like the Win8 app store is a closed system for 3rd party stores like Valve's is.
This way, they can both compete and with enough investment, actually drive developers (Of which they themselves are pretty big) towards this platform as well.
