For anime Hunter x Hunter is fantastic, but not on Netflix.

HAHA, that wasn't for me, was it? Because I looked it up and it was a kid with spiky hair :-D
84  Non-Gaming / Off-Topic / Re: The Netflix Instant Watch recommendation thread on: January 30, 2014, 07:53:35 PM
Is any of the anime kinda like epic western adventures without the heroes being kids with spikey hair and big swords or small girls? Not judging, its just not for me.

86  Non-Gaming / Off-Topic / Re: Amazon To Start Charging Tax In My State on: January 28, 2014, 03:29:16 PM
Indeed -its after you go to the checkout we see the taxed prices so we just kinda know we have to add a bit to the price. I know 25 percent is a lot, but bear in mind, we have free healthcare ;-)

I do seem to remember Denmark has one of the highest taxes on personal income. I pay close to 60 percent in taxes on my income, so its not something that is unfamiliar to us.
87  Non-Gaming / Off-Topic / Re: Amazon To Start Charging Tax In My State on: January 28, 2014, 02:41:53 PM
aha! thanks for explaining!

I can tell you though, if its any consolation, we pay 25 percent on imported goods :-)
88  Non-Gaming / Off-Topic / Re: Amazon To Start Charging Tax In My State on: January 28, 2014, 02:08:55 PM
Why is it such a big deal? Doesn't it just mean you have to pay what the merchandise costs? We pay taxes on everything here in Denmark that we import, and have been forever I'd say.
89  Non-Gaming / Off-Topic / Re: [TV] Black Sails on: January 28, 2014, 08:33:07 AM
Was I the only one who felt slightly insulted by this show? I watched the first episode last night, and while it was very pretty, even on my aging tv, I found the lesbian sex annoying. It's become a thing that new shows thinks that have to show tits and ass to reel in the viewers and this show is no different. The lesbians were clearly there only for the reason that they want the dudebros I guess its called to go "Hell yeah" and tune in the next time. I'd much rather they made a show that was good (Like True Detective) and in that way reeled in their audience.

I'm no prude - hell, I'm from Denmark where we liberated sex 50 years ago and used to nudity amongst all genders both beaches and other places, but this just makes me sad and somewhat annoyed.

Its not a new thing, but it has become increasingly difficult to gloss over. The very first episode of X-Files had Gillian Andersen in bra and undies. That was the only time it happened in that particular show and thats..well, bearable I guess. I would just like to enjoy the show for what it is, and for however much gratuitous sex and violence they show.

Other than that, the show was...well, competent but ultimately not very interesting to me.

Very! You drop in and out of MP without noticing pretty much, and can take on things alone if thats your thing. I'd advise you to try the MP (Which is standard setup) though, since its really no hassle, and happens without you doing pretty much anything for it. Its sort of you indicate you want to run a mission, and 3 more people are found for that mission and it starts.

Here's a lovely one. My internet connection went down tonight because Time Warner is not a very good company, so I thought I'd pass the time by listening to some music. Turns out, streaming music stored locally on your PC to your Xbox One requires an internet connection. You never know, you might decide at any moment to stop listening to the music you own and subscribe to Xbox Music!

I hate crap like that! Does the PS4 do the same kind of stuff?

Did anyone really expect this to be good? The developers have shown an incredible lack of understanding of what made the Thief series interesting, and have throughout the entire development process clearly shown they have zero interest in taking the features of the old thief and incorporating in the new thief.

This is a nice collection of qoutes and information about the game, showing just how diverged from Thief the game seems to be.

Honestly, what little I've seen of this game tells me its directed mainly at the COD group, which is fine, but not for me. For some reason, I thought the game was something else, i.e. a slower more tactical experience since it featured Titans, but I can  see I was wrong. I guess I should have known, based on who the developers are, though.

The only thing I'm not sold on is the combat, but then again, I didn't try it myself, so who knows. All in all, I'd say this is really worth getting from what little I've seen.

"All required parts contained within" would be an alternative slogan. Tongue

Thats actually pretty damn good! I just doubt any MMO's will go for it these days. I'm pretty sure ESO will featuer an in-game shop of sorts as well.

I've actually started watching them after watching this documentary :-)

I felt like I was playing a TES game with the occasionally poorly-named NPC running by every once in a while.   I think I'm in on this one - it felt much better this go around, and it was far more stable to boot.  My biggest complaint was the interface for crafting as it's not just unintuitive but counter-intuitive.   They have time to fix that though, and hopefully some of my feedback helps.

On the subscription front, I don't bat an eye at 15 a month when there is this much content.  The Free to Play model seems to attract the absolute WORST players, and I'd rather avoid them altogether.

On the "why isn't the client free" side of things, I wouldn't expect them to give away years of programming time.  If you believe what they've done is worthwhile, you pony up to experience it, otherwise we are back to that f2p model.  Free to Play has become nuisance-ware.  Want a bank slot?  Money.  Want to be able to have more than pocket change?  Money?  And the worst of them - want to rearrange your interface in SWTOR?  Money.  I'd rather pay a subscription so the devs can create more content than have them nag me for nickels and dimes until I quit out of frustration.  Am I alone on this?

You are not alone in this in any way. I'm sick and tired of the F2P model, and thats what I hear from a lot of people. The thing is, we may be the minority in this case - the oldschool gamers with money to spend. LOL is currently one of the game with the biggest income, and judging by anecdotal evidence, its a younger persons game where kids from my daugthers school play it and get their parent to spend money on it as well.

Subscription based games with a high entry fee are harder to justify to parents, so the question probably is - Are there enough oldschool gamers interested in these games to sustain them?
118  Non-Gaming / Off-Topic / Re: The Netflix Instant Watch recommendation thread on: January 14, 2014, 09:29:43 AM
I watched Shatners "The Captains" a documentary about the various actors that have played Starship captains in the various Star Trek movies / shows. It features Shatner of course, Patrick Stewart, Avery Brooks, Kate Mulgrew, Scott Bakula and Chris Pine, as well as numerous others who were in some of the shows or movies.

To be honest, I was groaning at the opening and Shatner saying this was a journey of discovery for both the viewers, and him. I was also groaning when he first interviewed Patrick Stewart, and Stewart got to say 2 lines, where Shatner then talked for several minutes about himself. This is something that goes on in every single Interview, and seeing as Shatner is executive producer, it only reinforces my view of him as something of a egocentric personality.
Shatner talks in that wierd clipped way that Mr Lipton does in that Actors Chair show, and it seemed like acting by Shatner, unfortunately.

Despite that, I actually really liked the documentary, but thats despite the man, not because of him. The other captains are genuinly interesting people. I've always liked Patrick Stewart, but the documentary managed to make me interested in the other actors as well, despite me not having seen any of the newer shows. Even Chris Pine seems like a real human being, and honestly, Shatners outburst is probably spot-on "You are me, 50 years ago!". To me, Shatner was a force of personality back in the day, and Chris Pine has the same self-confidence that comes with being young and successful that some find grating.

Nearing the end of the documentary, it occurred to me that it was actually pretty good watching this, and it told me a lot not only about the other Captains, but a lot about Mr. Shatner as well, and his fear of being forgotten which shines through quite well.

All in all, I can only recommend this if you have any interest in Star Trek or actors.

There is a series as well, where he goes a bit more in depth with the various actors, but all in all, I find the movie a lot better.

I managed to get a bit of time in on ESO.  While Im still not blown away, it does seem better than the last beta.  It took me forever to download the client this time and I didnt get a lot of play time in but I still dont think this game is anywhere near worth a subscription fee. If thats the route they are going I expect it to fail and do as pretty much every other recent MMO and go FTP.
Part of the problem with these short betas is that you dont get much of a chance to play a developed character.  Playing a low level toon doesnt give you much of a feel for the game or its capabilities. Now I understand this is a beta and not a sales demo but these days betas are made to help sell the game, so I hope they run a more extended beta soon, where you have some time to play a bit deeper of a character.

Its not even a Beta, its a STRESS beta, meaning the object of the exercise is to crash the servers.

Also, be careful since the NDA is still very much in place.
