7722  Non-Gaming / Off-Topic / Knight-Templars heirs sue the pope on: August 06, 2008, 06:58:49 AM
So, in what I think is pretty interesting news, descendants of the Knights Templar order is now suing the pope, for having seized the KT's treasures after the wrongfull accusation of heresy and witchcraft in 1307.

Interestingly enough, although the amount is around 1 billion dollars in regulated money, they dont want money, but just want the name of the order and their forefathers cleared.

I can only link to the danish article , unfortunately

One thing I thought about when reading this, is, how can you be a descendant of an order?? I mean yes, the man, but the order? no!

I'm assuming those who are suing are nobles though, since they are probably pretty much the only ones with a proven and well enough documented heritage to go back 700 years... I mean,  I barely know who my grandparent where...

I do wonder how the catholic church responds to this, seeing as they have to admit that the killing of a lot of men was wrongfull, and only done to appease King Philip the 4th. (and NOT because of the whole grail thing, conspiracy nuts!)

edit: found an english article describing this:

The way I look at it is that half of the movies he's put out are based on games.. games that otherwise would have never seen the light of day for a movie. So what has anyone lost? Nobody else was going to do an Alone in the dark movie (which was also pretty good) or a Bloodrayne movie.. but Uwe stepped in and did what nobody else would.

I am an Uwe basher, and proud of it. and, Alone in the Dark a decent movie?? It was a piece of garbage, boring, pretentious and with so many plotholes, missing stuff and idiocy it was a pain to watch. And hey, dont just take my word for it, check out its IMDB score...

while he does make movies, that alone doesnt make me "respect" him in any way, since the movies are horrible in my opinion. All it seems that he's doing, is using the tax shelter money, to ruin game franchised movies - is that worthy of respect?

I just put up a post about this in the meta area of OO.

I've tried to look at your post and have timed out on 3 separate occasions over the last couple hours.  I can access the main forum page and get into the subsections, but it hangs every time I try to get into a specific topic.

I've had that problem myself many times over the last few weeks...

OO sure does have it's set of problems...
7726  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: Playing Metal Gear Solid 1 - 3 before MGS 4 - who is with me?! on: August 05, 2008, 08:20:47 AM
I just finished the MGS IV last night - cool game - now, I've never played any of the other games, but wonder if if would be worth it, now that I know how MGS IV ends...

The first games, are they worth playing, graphichal wise? while I'm no graphicswhore, I still feel that the graphics ARE an important part of a game, especially one such as the metalgear series.

I found a MGS 3 box, some sort of updated game, cant remember the name of it, with "enhanced camera controls", and some sort of online play - anyone know if that game is worth getting?

I don't know anything aobut it - thats the wording I've been told to use ;-)

But, I imagine you stick in an usb reciever of some sort in the ps3 right, and then the bluetooth headset can utilize that?
7731  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / [PS3?] Bluetooth headsets on: August 04, 2008, 11:15:45 AM
not sure if this goes here, but...

I'm looking for a USB bluetooth headset, to be used with the PS3. Logitech has one, which is around 100 dollars here in denmark, but I've been told by some shopclerks that they "think any usb bluetooth headset will work on the PS3"

anyone have any experience with this?
7732  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: Microsoft grows brain and drops the price of the 360? on: August 04, 2008, 10:29:18 AM
You cant exchange the harddisc yourself, like on PS3's?

7740  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: (360 and PS3) No Love for the Release Version of Civ: Revolution? on: August 02, 2008, 08:27:04 PM
Late to the party here, but just bought the game...and loving it - I'm a big Civ fan, at least, civ 1 and civ 2, never really played after that, but this? damn its great!!

As I posted over on OO, it would seem a small step to make Alpha Centauri, but appearently, Sid Meier doesnt own the rights to that, unfortunately....could have been cool to see the same kind of iteration of it, as Civ revolutions though

For mikagami - if you think this is a POS fighter, then what do you suggest as an alternative?  I've looked at VF5o, but never pulled the trigger.

Get VF5o. The BEST fighting system, IMHO, bar none. Oh, and the AI doesn't cheat, either. Nor does it contain crap like Star Wars characters in it. And it has a long 'travel around Japan fighting other 'players' in different arcades' mode that'll more than keep you entertained for a long while without playing against another human player. You can even (to a point) play dress-up in it like you can in SC4.

and, to win games, you can crouch and punch...thats actually all you need to learn...

7752  Non-Gaming / Off-Topic / The age of re-runs on: August 01, 2008, 12:00:53 PM
Whenever I see new titles for games, or movies, or television shows, I am reminded of Isaac Asimovs stories about the robots and empire, where a brainplague has been released to decrease mans innovative skills...

There's nothing really new on the horizon, all the games are either direct or "spiritual" successors, the movies are rehashes or nr 11 in the series, and the tv-shows? dear god, running 9 seasons, and then a little spin-off afterwards..

WHere is the innonvation, the ingenuity, the genius to dare and do, to boldly go where no-one has gone before?

I realize I'm speaking generally here, and of course there are some new stuff , although, in all fairness, most of the new stuff, is just rehashes of old stories/games as I see it...

Anyways, have we entered an age of re-runs, where we are incapable of renewing ourselves? Do we fear change so much, that we take the safe bet all the time? or has perhaps economic interestest in demographic surveys taken over, ensuring that we get what 76 percent of the population would find of interest, based on previos experience?

discuss :-)
