I cant see any of the links either, though...

oh come on people! This is the first game, or first ANYTHING that hasnt been made available in your neck of the woods BEFORE everywhere else in a looong time, and you guys cant take it? Seriosuly, and I mean this with the utmost respect, suck it up! Europeans have been dealing with this for a long time, both regarding movies and games, and we still smile at times, actually. ;-)

Anyways, finally at the universe part of the game, and has added a few people from here as friends as well, to share creatuers, and WOW - I just downloaded a mythology packet - Unicorns? And damn nice looking ones as well? holy cow some people are good at these editors...

I'm really impressed - GOA STILL havent been able to finish their code entry website, and for europeans, the open beta starts tomorrow.

As I see it, there cant be any rational reasoning for not taking care of their website before launch, other than ineptitude and perhaps because they have no idea how to do it...

I bet a chickenhead that they WONT have it ready for tomorow...

hmm, okay, so I'm not the only one who's been having that trouble? Well, the spore.com site has been doing some maintenance, so, I was guessing that was why?

Anyways, thanks HepC, didnt think so, but good to be sure :-)

Anyways, played a bit more tonight, through the first landstage, and then onto the tribal stage.

The first landstage was fun, although, got a bit repetitive after a while - I'm sure there are ways to offset that, with a second playthough, but I Did have some rather fun adventures... For instance, when an EPIC creature suddenly wandered in, taller than anything, even the trees, and started trampling and killing the poor creautres I'd just befriended.

I'm hoping a second playthrough will be faster due to me knowing how to play it.

Anyways, only scrathed the tribal part a bit so far, but so far it seems a lot like an RTS, with me having to manage food, more villagers, and nearby villagers - will report back when I've played through that as well

oh, and my comp hasnt been destroyed by securerom yet ;-)

Quote
Started off with a new creature, called Urchuns, in the first part of the game, the cell game...and my first impression was, wow - the game is so slick, so intuitive and so easy to control that its a blast.

Of course it's easy to control - all you are doing is making your creature follow the cursor and eat everything in front of it. You'd be hard pressed to create a complex interface for this kind of gameplay smile

Quote
The possibilites there are enorumous.

From what I understand, you can build your cell using any of the 9 (or 12?) body parts - 3 kind of weapons, 3 kind of tails and so on. Hardly enormous number of choices. smile

Quote
There are some missions that could be solved to get more DNA, giving you even more options.

What kind of missions? From what I heard, it's either of the two -  "Kill 3 neighboors" or "Dance with 3 neighboors". With an occasional sprinkle of scenario-based hard-coded stuff like "Collect 6 body parts".

a few quick answers to the devil(s advocate ;-) ) As for missions, those that I have tried, are basically "get the new abilities", "Kill 3 of xx", but, I only tried that level of the game for about 20 minutes

As for possiblities, yes, the cell organism is somewhat limited, but that game is really short as well. The landpart is where the creature editor really shines..there is a LOT of differnet things, and, you can shape your creature, and all its limbs, apendages and so on exactly anyway you want...and colorize it as well. How much of an impact it has on the way you play your creature, we'll just have to wait and see :-)

Interface wise, I'm sure you'r right, but then again, its easy to see that the design of the game is really good, and that its one area of the game that they've really really worked hard on.

I'l play a lot more tomorrow, when the GF is out of town, so feel free to line up any questions and I'll try and answer them...

oh, one bad thing, the spore servers appeared to be down today, which was kinda a let down.

razgon - do you think the game would be fun for an adult to play with their child  (say 4-6 yrs. old)?  Is the game "easy" enough for a child to enjoy, or would the adult be doing too much of the "work"?

I realize it's a subjective question, but what do you think?

well, I didnt get to play more than I've already written about, but I was thinking the whole time that I have to play this with my kids, who are aged 9 and 11...no trouble there whatsoever..

If you play it with them, I'd say you would have a lot of fun actually..the basic game is easy to grasp, at least as much as I played
7621  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: SPORE Impressions on: September 04, 2008, 04:35:59 PM
So, work and some other stuff is keeping me away a bit from this but finally got to play for about an hour.

First off, got a nice cup thingie and a spore T-shirt with the game, very nice :-)

Started off with a new creature, called Urchuns, in the first part of the game, the cell game...and my first impression was, wow - the game is so slick, so intuitive and so easy to control that its a blast. The game part itself was pretty simple, I'd chosen a carnivore so I eat meat lumps, and hunted other cells/creatures for more food. Also, I had to find some meteor parts where new evolutionary traits could be found. I quickly discovered that having poison glands at the sides didnt help me that much when I'm attacking other creatures to get meat.

The possibilites there are enorumous.

THe first part of the game was pretty quickly done with though, and on to what I Was really excited about - stepping onto land..

Now, I had to design my creature again, giving it legs, a larger beak for biting and eyes pointing forward. There are some missions that could be solved to get more DNA, giving you even more options.

I solved a few of these, added some feet and arms to my creature, and started doing with all intelligent carnivores do - kill of my neighboors. :-D

Anyways, my first impression of the game is - its extremely well done, very slick interface, easy to use, and great, great fun! theres just something adorable about the whole setup, what you do, how you do it and so on.

The graphics are fine, functional, and rather fun to look at...Sound is great - perfect to the way the game plays.

I'll post more later, but thought I'd give you my first impressions of it...and I'm having loads of fun!!

I got it at launch and i really dont see what the big hype was about when it was released on 360, the story is ok i guess but it doesnt catch my attention much, the dialouge system is pretty good, the combat is horrible and the graphics arent that good, the AI is horrible, a pretty boring game imo and i kind of wish i hadnt bought it, but i'm a sucker for games with morale choices and that + the dialouge system is the only reason i find it a decent game.

Edit : Oh and i forgot to mention that i'm happy they actually bothered to optimize it for pc and not just make a bad port like we pc gamers gets so much off these days.

Huh? sometimes I wonder how gamers can percieve things so differently...

I love the game, I like the combat, I think the aI does a fine job, and the story works very well - overall, its a strong game imo...

So, as usual, the european part of the launch seems extremely poorly planned. Not only did the preview weekend "take GOA by surprise" (hell, even I knew about a month before), but the place to enter your pre-order codes isnt up yet, and basically, I fear a little for the euro launch, since I'm beginning to spot some ugly rumours about their launch date readiness.

So far, it's been a mess - nonetheless, I dont think they can manage to ruin the game, so, if anyone is interested, I'll be playing on an RP server (normal one), and I'd love to play with some GT's/OO'ers.
