Beta invites went out from Eurogamer and I have yet to read an impression that isn't absolutely gushing about the game.  Looks like people are "getting it"...

will this be the game that divides the forum, and makes civil war ensue? ;-)

The way I read your post, sounds like you've only installed it twice.
Was this a trick question?

no no, no trick question, hehe - its an honest one...the thing is, while I have only INSTALLED it twice, I feared I "actived" it somehow the 3rd time, by starting the game again on my laptop, after having played it on the stationary as well..
7524  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Spore DRM + install question on: September 22, 2008, 11:55:45 AM
okay, I seriously dont understand this anymore...

I installed the game on my laptop, even though it was mostly for my kids, so, after trying it out a bit, I decided I wanted my kids to play it instead, and installed it on my stationary...

and they love it!

now, I acidentially fired the game up the other day on my laptop, by hitting the wrong button, so...have I now used 3 installs????

Now, for some positive things.  There are many things in this game that are very creative.  Public quests are very cool and I like how you can kind of do them again and again to raise up an influence meter that allows you to get loot from a few different tiers.  However, if nobody is around to do one of these things, you are kind of screwed.  I helped out a couple of times with the first high elf one where you ultimately have to kill this big dragon thing.  I wanted to run it one more time, but nobody was around and we couldn't get it done. One very cool thing, though it isn't explained in the game at all, is that in the second stage of this quest, the more people you save, the more crossbow thingies they build.  You can then use these to help do damage on the dragon in the third stage.  I kind of just stumbled upon it while messing around.  When I was doing the PQs the first time or two, nobody seemed aware of this.  So, cool mechanic, but not so cool if nobody knows about it.

about PQ's - you dont actually NEED to other players to gain all the "ranks" and get your rewards - I do them all the time by myself - just do the starting part, "kill 120 ultharian warriors" and you'r done in a very short time :-)

At some point in your mid to late teens you'll notice that you run out of quests for your level, and that you would have to grind to continue. Remember that there are 3 entire zones which ALL have quests for your level! If you run out, just hop on over to the comparable area in another realm. So far I've gotten to rank 18 with just regular quests, PQs and RvR.

Damn, you'r a machine! lvl 18 already? :-D but thanks for the tip! lvl 12 is my highest, so, I'll get there in a week or two ;.)

7533  Gaming / Multiplayer Madness (MMO or otherwise) / Re: Why are there no Warhammer Online Impressions thread? on: September 19, 2008, 09:47:09 AM

Pros:

- Smooth launch
- PvP is actually fun
- Public quests
- PvE implemented
- RvR implemented
- Serviceable graphics, and DOES work in large-scale battles without bogging the comp down
- Lots and lots of different classes, that are actually different in feel and use
- 12 character slots on EACH server
- Awesome guild options

cons:
- very pvp oriented, its clearly there that the developement focus has been at
- not cutting edge graphics (obvious why, but some people would find that a con)
- global chat non-existant, or I'm a moron

eh...thats all the cons I can find.

I'm enjoying this a lot! 11 alts so far, ranging between levels 6 and 12 ;-) Community seems nice as well overall... The game actually works, as many others have stated, I dont like PvP in MMO's, but this? its just implemented so beautifully that its plan fun! everyone wants to pvp in this game, especially the scenarios (capture the flag, king of the hill and many more) are so damn fun to be in!

hope it helped

so, how many bought this one, and was blown away? I got mine last night, and wow!

weight was probably around 5 kgs, the casing was damn impressive, like a bookcover. Inside was two hardcover bound books, one the art book which is so damn nice and the other one is a graphic novel over the events leading to where the warhammer wolrd is right now. Also,it included a mousemat and a figurine for the warhammer fantasy battle game...great stuff!

I must say, the price is right for this game, its not really that expensive, and while its just extra trappings you get, I love it! its such a well-produced product that you just cant help go "wow" when you see it - even my GF was awed by it, although she thought I was a bit insane to be buying it :-D

okay, I've revised my opinion of the swordsmaster, now that I got past lvl 8 (lvl12) - at lvl 9 I owned the battlefield with my two-hander, got 25.000 damage output in one scenario, and was more or less impossible to take down. Good healers DO make all the difference as well.

now, that I'm lvl 12 though, and have to join as the lowest level in scenarios, I fear for my life a bit though ;-)

How's the balance with Destruction on Ostermark?  I rolled a dwarf with some people I play WoW with on Averheim and RvR has been total fail.  We were outnumbered so badly in 2 of the 3 zones we tried that I'm going to hold off leveling for now on that server.

plenty of other things to do, than just being in the openland RvR zone - Pve, public quests, and the PvP scenarios, which are awesome!

Basically RP servers act as a somewhat effective filter for screening out 10-year old WoW-kiddiez who like to name their characters SirFartsALot.

<shakes head as he scratches something off his notepad>

how about "BeefHammer"?  that's kind'a warhammer-ish, isn't it?

you'r garanteed to be flamed for that name, if not reported - when you enter an RP server, you'll have to agree to another agreement about names - try reading that to get a feel for what kind of names are allowed. Anyways, have fun on an RP server - its good stuff, people are generally more mature there, and rp CAN be fun

The Wanderers are a casual guild, I don't see why anyone that doesn't have an issue with them play with them if you're going to play order.

Destruction could be a little different, they will be playing Dest on an Open server.

I'll be playing with a bunch of people on Destruction side of a Core server though, and more are always welcome.

I just don't really see the reason for everyone to start their own guild though, short of the hardcore raiding, tight schedule type people.

I have 10-15 people planning on playing with me, if we get more of the small groups like that together we'll have a large enough pool that everyone should have someone to group with if they want to.  I'd just hate to see us end up like we did with every other mmo with people scattered on 10 different servers between the 4 websites I frequent.

Been reading up a bit , and seems a lot of people thinks the Swordsmaster is a bit broken compared to IB and BO - of course, that could be the usual moaning about classes whenever someone dies ;-)

Also, I went sword'n-board, perhaps it would've been better to go twohander I see...especially seen in the light that you can ONLY block/parry incoming attacks from the front...

thanks for the answers, Skystride.

I guess perhaps a tank just isnt for me then in RvR - I just dont know what to do with myself, as opposed to when I'm playing warrior priest, witchhunter or some ranged dps'er. I just seem to die very quickly. and yeah, contribution I counted on the stats, but then again, only recently got my swordsmaster to lvl 7 so that could be it :-)

As for equipment variety, thats too bad..hopefully, they'll patch that in somehow

coordination? ugh...I've never seen that yet, other than the unspoken kind ,that is ;-)

7550  Gaming / Multiplayer Madness (MMO or otherwise) / [Warhammer] a few questions for the vets on: September 15, 2008, 06:51:17 PM
So, I've been playing a bit, and loving the game so far...I do have a few questions though, that I hope some of the veterans from closed beta can answer

1) Tanks , orderside, seems more or less useless in RvR - with all my other classes, I can usually end up around top 5, normally top 3 without any trouble, as a swordsmaster though, I cant do any damage at all, and for obvious reasons, I cant dps that much - will this change, and what role should a tank play in the RvR?

2) Destruction, primarily Black Orcs seems way overpowered in r1-10, is that the general feeling? Destruction seems to win a lot on the servers I've been on, and blackorcs are pretty much impossible to take down as I see it. Withelves I have no trouble with, and the other long-range dps'ers I can deal with, when up and close, but BOs? wow!

3) will equipment become more varied , look-wise as the ranks go on? most weapons and armour Ive seen look pretty much the same.

4) Will classes and sides (order/destruction) even out more, abilitywise as ranks go on?

Thanks :-)

oh, and I'm loving the game so far! My warrior priest kicks shiny butt and outheals any others I've encountered and has decent dps as well- Witchhunters are SO fun to play... squishy, but fun! and I do also like my swordsmaster, he just feels a bit...useless so far...
7551  Gaming / Multiplayer Madness (MMO or otherwise) / Re: Warhammer Online headed to Open Beta on 9/7 on: September 15, 2008, 09:53:07 AM

Razgon/Reemul can you post when you have got on the server and confirm server name etc? I hear they are having some big queues and have added a few servers already! Good sign I think.

I'm playing on Burlok, as both Reinhart, Archeon and Razgon :-) Razgon the Warrior priest will be my main, I'm pretty sure...kicks shiny butt in RvR ;-)

I've no experience myself with those, I'll be sticking mostly with Empire, Warrior Priest and perhaps Witch hunter, which I havent played yet
