I really want this game...but I havent bought it yet, because I cant tell from your responses whether its good or not.. *Is* there a fun game in there, with some replayability? OR does it grow old quickly? I dont care about graphics, as long as there is a great game, and it seems like it.I mean, heck, getting a dragon??

Well, I have to agree that it seems like Tier 1 has kind of dried up, at least at the times I'm on.  I can't seem to find any folks around to complete PQs much anymore.  Time to level up to Tier 2 I think.  On top of that, Destruction always wins every scenario I've been in.  Gets kind of boring really.

keep fighting, dont give up! Like in real-life, if you think you'r going to fail, you *are* going to fail!I've seen it sooo many times already in-game, people at the beginning looking at levels and started crying....with a little incentive, people give themselves 100 percent, and voila, we win! just because Chaos has more pixels, doesnt mean they hit harder ;-)

On another note, on my server, its an even bet who wins the scenarios, Ive steamrolled destruction 500-74 several times, and also gotten beaten badly, with more or less the same people playing...its all in the team effort, sprinkled with a little bit luck

Finished my first game on Short, Easy.

Pros: Fun, lots of loot, much of the game intuitive, just the right amount of challenge level, town building doesn't feel tacked on, managing followers is actually interesting, strong replayability.

Cons: Steep learning curve, screen can get quickly crowded with tooltips and menus, the parts that aren't intuitive suck badly (you need food but no one explains how to get food and my first two followers were an inkeeper and an alechemist. Finally figured out how to get food when a farmer showed up after everybody else left due to starvation), might not be deep enough (but I need to play more to see)

If you have any questions, I'll try to answer.

Reading the QT3 thread has actually diminished my interest. The game sounds like it needs more polish, and is apparently badly documented. Also, I didn't know there would be all this (what sounds like) micromanagement and dealing with peons and raising food and such. I just wanted more of a decent Diablo-esque type game. I'll see how it shapes up with patches and all.

heh, its Diablo-in-real-life simulation... You also have to date and wear your smartest outfit to impress those farmgirls...and if all else fails, there's always the livestock...that needs tending!
7486  Gaming / Multiplayer Madness (MMO or otherwise) / [warhammer] Patches, now at 1.01 on: October 01, 2008, 06:34:39 AM
Hi all, I'll try and consolidate all patches here from warhammer, so that we dont have the AoC debacle again, where people started crying because there were too many posts about the game ;-)

anyways, without further ado - here are the patch notes v.1.01

Greetings!

It's been another busy day here at Mythic! In addition to the implementation of Cross Pairing Queues below is a list of today's Hot Fixes.

Enjoy and have fun!

Capital Cities

- The Mastiff's End Brawler in Altdorf will no longer start bar fights and kill the other patrons at the Mastiff's End Tavern.

Combat and Careers

Archmage

- The tactic 'Golden Aura' will now only affect valid enemy targets.

Content

- Fixed an issue that was preventing players from completing the 'Fireforge's Trail' quest.
- In the 'Honorable Deceit' quest, players will now receive the appropriate 'Karond Wine' to drink. This may require re-accepting the quest to obtain the correct item.

- Fixed an issue with the quest 'On the Brink of Chaos' that was preventing players from reading Lord Grauenberg's missive.

- The monster Suntear in Chrace is now friendly to Order-realm players
- The monster Toof Maw in Gunbad has been adjusted to a more appropriate level for his surroundings

- The Uthorin Felshade will now attack all enemies, and not just melee ones

Realm vs. Realm

Hi all, this just in - might be of interest to you..I know it REALLY is to me :-)

Greetings!

Your feedback is very important to us and it’s always our goal to make your play experience an even more enjoyable one.

In response to popular demand, you’ll now be able to queue for all of the scenarios available in your current tier, across all three pairings. For instance, if you’re in Nordland, you can queue for the Nordenwatch scenario as usual. You can also queue up for Khaine’s Embrace (the Tier 1 scenario in the High Elf vs. Dark Elf pairing) and the Gates of Ekrund (the Tier 1 scenario on the Dwarf vs. Greenskin pairing), all without leaving Nordland. No travel is required at all; just click the WAR symbol on your interface as you normally would, and use the arrows at the top of the window to scroll through the different scenarios.

We know many have been waiting for this feature and we have a lot more great additions coming on the horizon. We look forward to your continued feedback as we work to take WAR to the next level…WAAAGH!!!

The missing Tome pages (at least where the chapters were missing, didn't go into the actual entries because I hadn't gotten that far yet) has been going on for at least a week now, not just last night.

make an in-game petiion about this, using the help menu (question mark in the upper middle menu) - they will respond by email to you, and always responds. Just make sure its not a "bug report" you file, since they dont always answer those...
7489  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: What are you buying this week? (9/29) on: September 30, 2008, 06:18:24 AM

Thanks destructor, you make me a poor, but happy man ;-)

anyways, nothing for me this week, Warhammer does quite nicely so far

I believe helms as an item that NOBODY has EVER gotten right in an MMO. All I know is that if there's an option to not display helms, I ALWAYS use it. Of course, there's also the theory that you've spent all that time customizing your face, and then you can't display it for the world to see.

Warhammer (sorry to butt in with that game here, just think it fits the current topic) actually have a pretty interesting view on both shoulders and helmets. They are not "normal, generic" helmets and shoulders, but based on the class. Shadowwarriors for instance, their shoulders are a sort of hoodlike thing, slung over the shoulders, and covering half the face as well, a sort of bandit mask, but *very* cool looking.  I got my first helmet for my warrior priest last night, and what it added to my character, was actually a headband, a a cross hanging down the front of his chest. quite nice, actually...

do you honestly think they read why you are quitting?

we do the same thing, trick people with what appears to be service in my company, but basically, its nothing more than that - the appearence of a service, that isnt really there. But the important part is, it makes you *think* they listen to you, and thats all that matters.

just my two cynical cents ;-)

anyways, come to Warhammer instead...its a much better (and in better I mean grimmer) world ;-)

My thoughts exactly...seems like a major thing that all MMOs do that they just kind of left out.  That it needs a major code rewrite is pretty silly when it should have always been there.

depends on what they want with the game, actually... I think in many cases ,what "wer are used to have to be in an MMO" could actually be design decisions... I dont miss it at all, actually, as I dont miss the chat either...gives me more incentive to actually speak to the people I meet..

1) There willl be NO /dance, thank god - as for /duel, I dont thinkits ever been implemented, but thats pure speculation from my side

2) There are auction houses in the two major cities, Altdorf and the Inevitable city, reachable by flightmasters ,in all warcamps

3) nothing yet, but check out www.warhammeralliance.com where devs post regularely

4) Battlefield objectives are flags, you need to clear the gaurds there first, normally 5 normal ones, and one champion (lvl in tier1) - they are tied into scenarios in the way that it gives realm control both things. check the upper right corner for info on that

5)yup

6) yes it is, and patch notes are coming, when a patch is :-)

7) Euro here, so I dont know ;-)

have fun, this is the real thing! Best MMO in a looong time, IMO!

I dont - lost all interest in this now....

okay, i'm curious - what do you 'get' now that you didn't 'get' 2 months ago? (i'm thinking your sudden appreciation of the co-op potential has something to do with it? smile )...

i'm starting to think that lbp might be to video games what a free-form jam session is to music. not another sandbox, really... something quite unique, &, within the context of it's pseudo- 2-d environment, a game without boundaries, & a tool with pretty amazing potential (powerpoint, anyone?)...

exactly, I saw myself playing the game co-op, with three controllers, me and my two kids, and though that looked rather great, actually, and the level itself seemed rather fun.  Also, if the games level designer is so damn fine, it could actually be somewhat fun to make an ingame level! :-)

okay, obviosuly we have different game experiences, and no-one can really argue with how peple "feel" about a game :-)

Only,  I want to! ;-) To get to scenarios rvr, you can pretty much do so at lvl 3 and still have a blast!! dont worry, you'll level quickly - I just checked my latest toon at lvl 6, and playtime was almost 2 hours, thats all.... you get a LOT more xp by playing in scenarios, and course, you get the +960 xp for compelting a scenario quest as well each time, so...

also, I havent seen the "lvl 11 steamrolling" very much - I was lvl 5 on my shadowrwarrior, and dominted the damage playfield every time...the trick is, know your class I think...I just have to stay alive, to get to the top and get massive xp

This isnt meant as a "I'm right your wrong" kinda message, just my experiences and perhaps a little help on how to gain levels quickly :-)

Oh, I know and it was a con but not a complaint.  I'm still doing scenarios and other things even at 5-7 but there are level 11 steamrollers.  It's part of the game and staying in the group helps a lot but it's still frustrating getting 2 shot by a class you should be able to take smile  No problem though...because you can't turn off exp there are no twinks and the steamrollers are leveling past 11 and moving on the more they do pvp.  At this point I have probably six classes at 6-7 and have ruled out another 4 or so and deleted them.

The other issue right now is the damn black screen of death.  My wife's computer is getting this (9600GT, Asus motherboard - basically the worst combination for this to happen).  Right now I'm using RivaTuner and lowered her clock speeds/memory speeds while bumping her fan speed.  This lets her play around 2 hours now before crashing instead of 30-40 minutes.  Lack of official forums really hurts here because I'm not following ten different forums looking for suggestions and developer responses.  And I'm sure not going to RMA a six month card because it crashes one game.

as for forums, try out www.warhammeralliance.com - the devs come there a lot, and its a huge forum, with a tech section as well, might help to try that out :-)

oh, and just wait till you get to lvl 11 ;-)

This thread persuaded me to buy the game, Rich's thoughts were also useful to give another side. Never good just to have a all praise for a game.

Enjoying it a lot so far - although so far only played PVE and also PQ's - both of which I have found excellent. The map with quests area is inspired as is the Tome of Knowledge. Not played a MMO where it has been done so well.

My only issue was on performance. I don't have a slow machine AMD 3200, 8800GT, 2GB RAM and till now it has gone through all the standard games with no probs including WIC and Crysis which are notoriously hard on the machines. But I was getting real graphic lag which made play a little difficult to get immersed into.

Anyway

C:\Warhammer Online - Age of Reckoning\user
in usersettings.xml
The two lines with Specular and Lightmaps
specular="false" lightmaps="false"

Instead of true - for me this made a huge performance improvement. So if your gameplay is not as smooth as you would like. Well worth trying.

Tals

you *have* to try scenarios, Tals...really, its all its said to be...I dont like PvP in other games, but this? woah...so much fun! espeically, since the groups are big, but still small enough that you actually make a differencfe...grouped with a guy from scotland last night, and he had his first Scenario with me, and that sold the game completely on him....

Also, there's nothing quite like it, when you finally get the last blow in on that other toon who's been after you for a while and he goes down, or you can see your heals is keeping the tank from dying, even though there are 4 others trying to beat the crap out of him...so much fun, and so damn intuitive...I think thats really whats making the game so fun..its very easy to understand, though hard to master of course..the trademark of all great games IMO...

Now, for some positive things.  There are many things in this game that are very creative.  Public quests are very cool and I like how you can kind of do them again and again to raise up an influence meter that allows you to get loot from a few different tiers.  However, if nobody is around to do one of these things, you are kind of screwed.  I helped out a couple of times with the first high elf one where you ultimately have to kill this big dragon thing.  I wanted to run it one more time, but nobody was around and we couldn't get it done. One very cool thing, though it isn't explained in the game at all, is that in the second stage of this quest, the more people you save, the more crossbow thingies they build.  You can then use these to help do damage on the dragon in the third stage.  I kind of just stumbled upon it while messing around.  When I was doing the PQs the first time or two, nobody seemed aware of this.  So, cool mechanic, but not so cool if nobody knows about it.

about PQ's - you dont actually NEED to other players to gain all the "ranks" and get your rewards - I do them all the time by myself - just do the starting part, "kill 120 ultharian warriors" and you'r done in a very short time :-)
