7481  Non-Gaming / Off-Topic / NCIS - current season on: October 09, 2008, 12:20:59 PM
so, having bought the first three seasons of this very very good show, I was just curious as to what people think about the current (5th?) season? is it still as good as the first ones?

Both the GF and I are really digging this show, and already feel that Abby, Gibbs, Tony, Mcgee and the rest are becoming our friends...probably comes from watching 2½ season in the span of 2 weeks ;-)
7482  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: Hinterland is out on Steam on: October 09, 2008, 12:15:32 PM
Hinterland recives its first content update now!  eek

The free update will include:
Two new character types you can play as - The Elf Archer and the Dwarf Warrior

Creature-specific item drops - Rare and unique items, (e.g. Troll Blood) that give the character who consumes them permanent bonuses

Character Info Screen - Details your abilities, and gives information on the town in general

You can acquire resources through economic means - Dig a well for Fresh Water, plant Herbs, import Iron, etc.

Expanded character customization choices when leveling - Three ability choices instead of two with the third choice based on your character’s profession.

Item Sorting – Ability to automatically sort inventory items by type and relative power

Auto-equipping - Townspeople will automatically take items they can use from the town inventory periodically as needed (this can also be turned off if desired)

Miscellaneous balancing, pacing and usability improvements and refinements - made in response to player feedback

really nice support for such a cheap game, loving it so far!

okay, I just HAD to share this...this is one of the funniest threads I've yet to come across on the forums...there is this guy, who cracks me up every damn time he posts...

the thread is here: and is about the term "Toon"..

a few examples of his posts:

"mob", however, was indeed a term from wow. most likely by wow players who could not distinguish between in-game monsters and the mafia.

or possibly coh, depending on the strength of the yen

(talking about EQ1)
better on that one bro, wow predates all those games by years. plus UO wasnt even an MMO--it's 2D. i played on atlantic, i should know.

f UO was an MMO, why wasnt there an auction house? all i saw was a bunch of crappy looking houses with vendor npcs standing by them. wrap your head around that one, buddy!

so lemme get this straight, yr telling me that pacman is an MMO? you sir, are a cad, and i bid you good day.

how would pvp even work in pacman? answer that mister MMO historian. people would just camp the power pellets all day long. you know why? insta zone wide unbreakable fear. yes, its only like 4-5 seconds, but still OP

thanks for that history lesson there george washington. did the redcoats run around flagged /pvp or were they all on the carebear server?

now THAT is funny :-D

There are people already with Fallout 3 achievement points, according to this site:

7489  Gaming / Multiplayer Madness (MMO or otherwise) / Warhammer - Patch 1.02 on: October 09, 2008, 07:17:33 AM
So, since my old patchpost was overrun with all kinds of stuff, I'll be making a new for each major patch instead (sue me if you dont like it!)

here are the highlights of the upcoming patch!

The war against the gold spammers continues.  We’ve added new code that will hinder the spammers as they seek to carry out their nefarious deeds!  This is only the next step, not the final one, in our continued battle against them.

We have added a 'Join All' button to the scenario window which now allows players to join all scenario queues in their current tier at once.

In order to promote realm and population balance, some realms on some servers will now award their players with a +20% bonus to renown and experience. This is not a permanent bonus, but rather a temporary incentive to promote balance. Realms currently offering this bonus are marked on the server list with a colored icon; blue for Order and Red for Destruction - Check the Herald for the latest list!

In response to player feedback, we have made several improvements to the behavior and responsiveness of the siege weapon interface. In addition we have fixed some issues with the control and release processes of siege weapons.

In an ongoing effort to deter players from going AFK while in scenario starting areas, we have made the following changes:

First, players who join a scenario and remain in their realm's spawn area for two minutes will be automatically removed from that scenario.

Second, upon entering the spawn area of a scenario, players will receive a debuff that prevents them from earning renown and experience. This debuff will be removed when the player leaves the spawn area.

The level range at which players are able to receive the “Bolster” buff while in RvR has been expanded. This buff will now be available starting three levels lower than it had been previously. Please note this change only applies to Scenarios on Open-RvR Ruleset Servers.

In tier 2, the buff will apply from rank 8 to rank 17, and will raise players to Battle Rank 18.

In tier 3, the buff will apply from rank 18 to rank 27, and will raise players to Battle Rank 28.

In tier 4, the buff will apply from rank 28 to rank 35, and will raise players to Battle Rank 36.

In response to player feedback, we’ve added RvR and NPC chat tabs for new players. These tabs filter scenario chat and NPC chat respectively. In order to minimize frustration to users who have already customized their chat window, we will not be overwriting any current settings, so this change will affect only new players. Players who wish to add these tabs may do so through the normal chat configuration options.

While in scenarios, players will no longer be able to select "Need" in their loot windows unless their career or race can use the item being offered. Please note: players of a lower level than required by the item are still able to roll.

We have fixed an issue that was causing claimed keeps to forget that they had been claimed after a server restart. Improvements have been made to how pets follow and they should now return to their owners more quickly.

We continue to work on the issues with the pet window. We have identified and corrected another bug which was causing this window to disappear.
Improvements have been made regarding an issue that was causing pets to teleport back to their owners after combat.

Fixed a bug that prevented players from creating an alliance with more than two guilds. Now that this issue is resolved, alliances can grow to great numbers to crush their enemies!

Fixed an issue that was causing the chat window to reset to its default position at logout.

Ongoing improvements have been made to client and server stability.

In order to deter players from spam-mailing, WAR continues to enforce a 5-second delay between sending mail messages. However, we have reduced this delay to 1 second for mails being sent to alts or guildmates.

We have fixed an issue that was causing monsters to lose their aggression toward players in some rare cases.

We have identified a small percentage of monsters in the game that were slightly less challenging than originally designed. We have adjusted the abilities of these monsters to bring them in line with their intended level of difficulty.

Fixed an issue that was allowing players to change their tactics configuration during combat.

We have made several fixes and improvements to the behavior of monsters and encounters in the Lost Vale dungeon. Access to this dungeon has been granted once more, and it should now provide an appropriately challenging experience for high-level players.

Warlord Set Trinkets were missing their career requirements. Career requirements have been added to these items.

In response to player feedback, we have made several improvements to the behavior and responsiveness of the siege weapon interface.

The words in the chat tab labels will no longer disappear when players change the game's graphical resolution.

The chat window will no longer slide upward when being resized.

Fixed some issues with the creation of chat tabs. Newly-created chat tabs should no longer continue beyond the border of the chat window.

Players who interact with guild vaults while their inventory is full will no longer see items in the guild vault disappear.

We have fixed an issue that was causing the game not to remember the chat prefix (/tell, /g, /wb), forcing players to retype it each time. The game should now correctly remember the chat prefix.

Chat font settings will now save properly.

Fixed an issue which was causing healers to lose targeting on a player who they just resurrected.

A number of game actions and NPC and monster communications were being sent to players through the wrong chat channel. We have made several fixes relating to these issues.

The pre-scenario countdown timer should now work properly once again.

We have fixed an issue that was causing claimed keeps to forget that they had been claimed after a server restart.

Players' use of siege weapons will be no longer be interrupted when those players take damage.

We have fixed an issue that was preventing players from opening the main door of a captured keep which belonged to their realm.

Things of special note: Join all button for scenarios!! YAY!!

+20 percent reknown and xp to balance servers for the underdog side ?!?! WOAH!! now *that* is progressive thinking! I like it!

need greed fixed in scenarios?!! YAY!!

all in all, a GREAT patch!! cant wait!

Why does he have to concede if he didn't like MGS4?  Actually MGS4 didn't even have a proper forum effect for a game that is supposedly one of the best of the generation.

Uncharted is still my top game on the PS3, can't wait for the sequel.

he doesnt have to say he liked it, I really dont care about that - but to call the animations "crappy"??? I mean... really?? it seems to be something people do just to be cool...or to make other people take offense...

Sorry ATB, imo MGS4 was crap.  The story was silly, ridiculous, and over-the-top.  The characters spew garbage on and on and on.  The animations were terrbile, the controls were clunky.  It had great cut-scenes, woop-dee-do.  I pushed through it because I felt I had to, because it was MGS4.  If I'm expecting a game to define a generation of hardware, MGS4 is the last game I would pick.

Uncharted had a wonderful, engaging story, characters that made you love them, mind blowing graphics, varied and enjoyable gameplay, the most amazing musical score of any non-star wars game.  It is the most complete package of any video game I have ever played.  The absolute definition of a AAA title.

you make absolutely no sense to me - Animations were crappy?? compared to what? A real-live-action movie??? Graphics were gorgerous, animations as well, looked damn realistic, and the story was, as computer-genre-game-stories go, rather interesting - and, I've never played the other games...  please, try to moderate your expressions with just a little bit realism, no matter whether you like the game or not...

oh hell, I forgot..this is the ever sees another persons point and concedes...

This "patch" is really frustrating. Half of what they claimed to fix is still broken, or worse than it was before the patch. Even simple things like the EULA agreement don't even work. I still have to scroll down every time I log in.

Thank God the game was relatively bug free by comparison with most MMOs when it launched, because their patch notes/patch system sucks donkey.

I have 4 lvl 9-11 toons, so we can have a lot of fun together :-)

I've had a LOT of fun with my warrior priest, always topping the healing charts and dealing out a good amount of damage as well. What is really fun about them, is that you can stand in the middle of 3 dps'ers being hammered upon, and they just cant take you down - giving your team time to peel them down while you occupy them. The main thing to remember here, is that you *have* to hit others, to be able to heal!

I'll be playing a lot today, so I'll look for you - add Razgon, Acheon and Moragrin to your friends list please - those are probably what I'm going to level tonight :-)

Thanks again, Turtle - that pretty much sold the game for me - I had forgotten the 20 bucks cost... And it also highlighst my misgivings about because the idea seems VERY interesting, too bad there isnt too much depth, but I guess that would make the game a lot more complex. But, the more people that buy it, the higher chance of a new edition being made of course :-)

The idea actually reminds me a bit about Majesty, which I played to death...gods I'd give good money for a sequel to that one...

It's replayable to an extent.

However, once you've played a long game you've pretty much seen all the game has to offer beyond just higher difficulties, and those higher difficulties often are frustrating.

ok, thanks both of you - Any word on whether the developers plan to remedy that by adding new stuff in patches?

I'm sooo on the fence with this one...

Is the guild side worth doing or is it better joining a bigger Guild?

I really dont know - while I would love it to be in a guild with all the OO'ers/GT'ers, I dont want us to miss out either. What devs seems to say though, is that each guild, regardless of size, should be able to gain the benefits.

That being said, the guild Reemul, PointerOO and I am in, is currently suffering from primarily being composed of just us, the others have all left, probably due to inactivity. I've never seen any others whenever I logged on this past week.

Also, this being an RP server, I actually would much rather be a part of an rp guild, with structured background, ideas and purpose, and I dont think (no offense meant at all) that any of the others have the same interest :-)

Well, I have to agree that it seems like Tier 1 has kind of dried up, at least at the times I'm on.  I can't seem to find any folks around to complete PQs much anymore.  Time to level up to Tier 2 I think.  On top of that, Destruction always wins every scenario I've been in.  Gets kind of boring really.

keep fighting, dont give up! Like in real-life, if you think you'r going to fail, you *are* going to fail!I've seen it sooo many times already in-game, people at the beginning looking at levels and started crying....with a little incentive, people give themselves 100 percent, and voila, we win! just because Chaos has more pixels, doesnt mean they hit harder ;-)

On another note, on my server, its an even bet who wins the scenarios, Ive steamrolled destruction 500-74 several times, and also gotten beaten badly, with more or less the same people playing...its all in the team effort, sprinkled with a little bit luck

Finished my first game on Short, Easy.

Pros: Fun, lots of loot, much of the game intuitive, just the right amount of challenge level, town building doesn't feel tacked on, managing followers is actually interesting, strong replayability.

Cons: Steep learning curve, screen can get quickly crowded with tooltips and menus, the parts that aren't intuitive suck badly (you need food but no one explains how to get food and my first two followers were an inkeeper and an alechemist. Finally figured out how to get food when a farmer showed up after everybody else left due to starvation), might not be deep enough (but I need to play more to see)

If you have any questions, I'll try to answer.

Reading the QT3 thread has actually diminished my interest. The game sounds like it needs more polish, and is apparently badly documented. Also, I didn't know there would be all this (what sounds like) micromanagement and dealing with peons and raising food and such. I just wanted more of a decent Diablo-esque type game. I'll see how it shapes up with patches and all.

heh, its Diablo-in-real-life simulation... You also have to date and wear your smartest outfit to impress those farmgirls...and if all else fails, there's always the livestock...that needs tending!

Hi all, I'll try and consolidate all patches here from warhammer, so that we dont have the AoC debacle again, where people started crying because there were too many posts about the game ;-)

anyways, without further ado - here are the patch notes v.1.01

It's been another busy day here at Mythic! In addition to the implementation of Cross Pairing Queues below is a list of today's Hot Fixes.

Enjoy and have fun!

Capital Cities

- The Mastiff's End Brawler in Altdorf will no longer start bar fights and kill the other patrons at the Mastiff's End Tavern.

Combat and Careers

- The tactic 'Golden Aura' will now only affect valid enemy targets.

- Fixed an issue that was preventing players from completing the 'Fireforge's Trail' quest.
- In the 'Honorable Deceit' quest, players will now receive the appropriate 'Karond Wine' to drink. This may require re-accepting the quest to obtain the correct item.
- Fixed an issue in the 'Inevitable Power' quest that was preventing players from interacting with the statue.
- Fixed an issue with the quest 'On the Brink of Chaos' that was preventing players from reading Lord Grauenberg's missive.

- The Stonetroll Pacifier in the Stonetroll Crossing scenario will now reset before players can obtain it again.

the brawler not starting fights anymore?? Thats really sad :-(

Hi all, this just in - might be of interest to you..I know it REALLY is to me :-)

Your feedback is very important to us and it’s always our goal to make your play experience an even more enjoyable one.

In response to popular demand, you’ll now be able to queue for all of the scenarios available in your current tier, across all three pairings. For instance, if you’re in Nordland, you can queue for the Nordenwatch scenario as usual. You can also queue up for Khaine’s Embrace (the Tier 1 scenario in the High Elf vs. Dark Elf pairing) and the Gates of Ekrund (the Tier 1 scenario on the Dwarf vs. Greenskin pairing), all without leaving Nordland. No travel is required at all; just click the WAR symbol on your interface as you normally would, and use the arrows at the top of the window to scroll through the different scenarios.

We know many have been waiting for this feature and we have a lot more great additions coming on the horizon. We look forward to your continued feedback as we work to take WAR to the next level…WAAAGH!!!
