Please stop with the stream of words - I cannot abide the babbling! ;-)

Anyways, thanks for the write-up Rittchard, but I am curious about one thing that you write

Quote
My biggest complaint with the game thus far is the levelling pace, which is positively glacial.  I thought I was imagining it at first, but it's definitely one of the slowest levelling games I've played in years.  In approx the same amount of time I took a new character from 1 to 70 in Diablo 3, I'm still hanging around level 10 in ESO.  In some respect that's not a horrible thing, but in these early portions of the game it can seem like it takes forever to make an advance.  Now before you tell me I should just relax and enjoy the game, my problem with this is that there is content that is flat out difficult for the recommended level.  I've been killed time and again by bosses that seem to literally have 9 lives, and I'm pretty sure it's not just me having these issues given some of the zone chat I see.  This can become even more frustrating because of the slow level pace; you can't readily just leave a big questline and level up and return.  Again it's the kind of thing I would have hoped had been balanced out during beta.  So the bad news is it takes a lot of time to improve your level, but the good news is you'll hopefully enjoy that time you spent as long as you don't get too frustrate

Why is this an issue at all? Shouldn't you be enjoying the game, and not try to rush towards lvl 50? Also, once you hit lvl 50, there are veteran ranks, so its not like its over there.

I am a bit perplexes and annoyed at the games of today that, like Neverwinter makes the levelling up the prime goal, and not a product of your enjoyment of the game. ESO is very much a game about exploration, and its also very hard at times, something we are not used to these days, but something I enjoy very much. The flexibility is the mark of an extremely ambitious game but it also leads to dangers like people not knowing how to proceed, making builds that makes little sense, and thus, difficulty while levelling.

Anyways, I enjoy the game immensely myself, and see myself playing it for a long, long time, bugs be damned.

Strange that after seeing quite a few people mentioning ESO last week (as technically some of the preorders started on Sunday), nobody is mentioning it this week.

Well, I will, as I'm all set for playing it on Tuesday. Here's to hoping it goes well.

Well, I bought it last week, if that helps.
46  Gaming / Multiplayer Madness (MMO or otherwise) / Re: Elder Scrolls Online on: March 31, 2014, 06:59:50 AM
I reached level 10 last night, after a long days of gaming, and I must say, I'm pleased with my purchase. The game looks simply gorgeous, easily the best looking MMO I've seen. I do wish nights were darker, but thats ALWAYS the case with MMO's and I hope add-ons can rectify some of the stuff like that.
The locations themselves are pretty great as well, and its very interesting to see all the flashbacks, and people interested in lore will find tons of things to delve into. For instance, both the Battle-Born and Graymanes are represented in the early game, which is pretty cool.

I do think they have some issues with storytelling that aren't working as it should , especially in the beginning. As a member of Ebonheart Pact, I have no idea what happened in the early game, or why we won the battle because I was invisible. Very strange.

The PVP seems very interesting, and I LOVE the siege engines. I've only completed the intro, so haven't actually tried it out yet, but I can see liking it a lot already since it seems to be taking a lot from Warhammer Online. I only wish they had collision detection enabled. I also need to figure out a way to quickly enter into larger groups, instead of having to beg with "Please invite" or "plz inv" in chat, which I absolutely hate.

The quests are fun and well done (Aside from those that break, obviously, but haven't had those myself yet, other than one that didn't work quite the first time) and all in all, I really enjoy my stay in Nirn, and want this pesky work to end!

This will also put my opinions to the test of whether ND games' problems with shooter controls is really an issue with input lag and framerate.

I never did play the MP so may be that's what you're referring to...but I dont' recall any issues with the controls or response times whatsoever.

its what half the posts in this very thread is about - some people complain about controls, other say its on purpose it works the way it does.

Our review is on the front page.   smile

http://gamingtrend.com/reviews/welcome-back-taffer-we-review-thief/

In short, play it like a Thief game and you'll enjoy it.  Play it like a shooter and a.) you are an idiot and b.) you aren't going to enjoy it.    Almost every negative review I read prefaced their opinion with "I'm more of a first person shooter guy" or "I've played all of the Call of Duty games" (well good for you, junior).   I also get the feeling that some of these guys didn't play past the first two levels.

Nice review - you did forget that there is no jumping anymore though. Also - how big does the levels feel? Are they straight corridors with sides or do they feel more like a whole area?

56  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: Space combat games? on: February 18, 2014, 03:31:22 PM
No, I mentioned StarPoint Gemini 2, which is a different beast, and one to take note of. Especially due to how everyone who plays it, loved it and the lack of negativity on their forums.

Fine if you don't want to enter beta gaming, but its certainly, the two behemoths aside, the game to watch for, and since it will be out in a few months, its not that long a wait.

Do NOT purchase X:Rebirth...Perhaps in about a year or two it will be good, but currently, after 3 months of patching, it still doesn't work.

Its a great time to be a fan of space games. The genre has totally revitalized, not the least of which is due to mega heavy hitters like Elite: Dangerous and Star Citizen. I'd point out StarPoint Gemini 2, which is currently in Early Access on Steam, and is one of the finest games I've seen in a long time. Its also one of the VERY few games whose steam forums are filled with happy people, and the developers answering questions all the time.

Why are games still 30 fps? Also, it seems that Xbox One is less powerful, no matter what the magic power of the cloud does? Oh well., its not like its even possible to get one for me yet, and no word on if ever.

The newest 17 minute trailer does look slightly more interesting though!

Your credit card info is safe. Kickstarter doesn't handle that part, instead leaving it to Amazon. Anyone who might have gained access to your account shouldn't be able to pledge for anything. You should be worried about your password though. They used SHA-1 encryption, which I believe was already compromised before this. They changed the encryption type afterwards, so at least things should be better now.

Thats not strictly true - Kickstarters that aren't based in the US are not handled by Amazon, but by Kickstarter itself. That means, that kickstarter has partial records of credit cards stored.

Would be like if a breathalyzer worked for a month.

Thats silly - I don't know a single country where the law works like that. Smear human blood all over your body from someone you murdered and return to your own country and its fine? Like most humans, you are expected to function within the norms of your society, this means using logic in following the rules.

Just in case you didn't know this - SF is more or less dead. They just left the government now, and several of their key party members have left for the Socialist Party instead (Whom the Prime Minister is a part of). It will take a long time for them to get back on their feet, if ever!

I've been to France, Italy, Spain as well, and every single place we put the paper in the toilet as per usual? Africa I can understand, but most European countries have pretty good waste systems. Hell, the Romans had running water over 2000 years ago ;-)

Never been to Greece nor Cyprus (Always wanted, though! so much history there!) but haven't heard anything like that before.

Most countries don't have the high pressure sewer lines that we have in the US, so yes, the above is completely true.

Well, I honestly don't know how long you are under any kind of influence, but as long as its detectable in your system, you are liable to lose your license here in Denmark so..Don't do drugs and drive is the message :-)

It can stay more than 30 days in ones body. Fat cells tend to hold on to it. So, 24 days after partaking, you're still buzzed? Come on..

huh? Where did I say that? Since drugs in general aren't legal in Denmark, of course this is the rule. In actual testing, there are minimum limits of course, which, if the subject has lower than that, is considered to be a negative test.

Edit: I see its my last sentence in the previous post that causes the issue. No, I do not think that you are under the influence of a drug two weeks after you ingested it.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=L_HEeHUmzjI&oref=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.youtube.com%2Fwatch%3Fv%3DL_HEeHUmzjI&has_verified=1

Some of it seems decent, but other things make me scoff or laugh. Mostly its the violence approach I guess. One of the things that was unique to thief was the horror of being discovered. If the guards found you, you had to be lucky to escape with your life. Here, you can just kill everyone and be done with it it seems. That takes away a great deal of the tension. Imagine Cradle level where you could just slaugther everything - fun? Not really.

In Denmark its illegal to drive in up to a week after ingesting any kind of weed. It stays in the body for a long time. Cannabis can be in the body up til several weeks after ingesting it, and if you are driving while that can be found, your drivers license will be revoked immediately.

Driving while under any kind of influence is both dangerous and stupid.

If you look at the picture I posted up earlier, you can see that it's anything but. Both in terms of story, but also in terms of gameplay. The mere fact that the lead developer has stated that you can't have combat being as dangerous as it was in the originals shows how little they understand of the lure of the game. They also recently stated that the levels are small because they wanted the player to feel claustrophobic.... Oookay. Pretty much every Thief Level was a huge, huge area giving you tons of options and some of them pretty claustrophobic but more in terms of design, than just shrinking the levels.

After the delay they did a lot of rethinking.  They got rid of the XP system, they made combat shockingly lethal, etc.   I was with you - I was worried a little bit just before the original launch date.  I'm optimistic now - especially after that trailer.  Well done!

sadly, it seems that they just renamed XP into gold, seeing the latest screens from the game. Abilities now costs gold instead of xp.
