Non-Gaming / Off-Topic / Re: Under the Dome coming to TV

I liked the idea of the book and it started off well enough but quickly went downhill when the town started falling apart. He foucsed the story on the nutty people in the town, which isn't compelling, rather than where the dome came from or what it was. I tried to stick with it but it just continued to go in the wrong direction and I've already read the town falling apart thing from King a bunch of times before - and better. So bowed out rather than slug through it anymore.
But I'll probably try and catch this and see if I can sit through it. But then again the King stories to TV movies haven't been all that great. Couldn't even make it through an hour of Bag of Bones.
aye, I actually hated the book as well and dropped it about halfway when pretty much everyone was being shitty persons. I just didn't feel any reason to go on reading it.

Yeah, if you don't move the camera or Google, this thing is nearly impossible.
I mean, in a single game I got two sections that were 2 lane paved roads with nothing around them. Could have been ANYWHERE.
There are quite a lot of things you can use to deduce where you are - Of course not precisely, but things like climate, terrain, mountains in the distance, car models, vegetation, especially trees are a good indicator of climate, as in subtropical. That said, my experience tells me that most dirt roads are either western Australia or northern America, so either of those are a good guess ;-) I agree with Engine that I have tons of fun playing detective on those hard to guess areas!

The second dungeon is a lot better - it has optional hidden bosses and all kinds of secret walls and things. However, much like the Cloak Tower, it has absolutely zero story. I don't know why they have no dialogue or anything in the main dungeons when it is a common feature in their solo instances. It makes the dungeons feel incredibly sterile and more like part of a game than an adventure.
The dungeons seems to be designed around the possibility of running them as fast as possible, without any communication between the players. Story would get in the way of that, I guess.

12/13 - The fracking question was a pure guess though, since I'd never heard of that, outside of Battlestar Galactica. I answered the Atmosphere question wrong, sadly.

Disregard... 5 minutes after my post here, I got the email and my items were activated... Maybe they are watching this forum.. do you happen to know where I can buy more bags? running out of room of stuff I am keeping and bank is getting full too. You get a bag around lvl 10 as far as I remember, so that you have two - Then you get another close to lvl 30. If you want more bags, you have to either pay Zen for it through the Zen store, or purchase some of the bags for the insane prices at the AH (Astral diamonds)

I am in a similar situation,i have bought a new kickass sword from the guy at the Greatwall
However,i can not find a decent Bow,i still have a crappy one,the Black Cat bows are expensive but according to the stats are not as good as the one i have
However,it may very well be because i have still not met the Duke,I have only just been to the Nobel area of Gran Soren,it's just that i have been doing side quests and exploring the map(i am Level 34)..I am hoping the shops upgrade their crap as i progress
I believe the shops upgrade based on where you are quest-wise, and not level-wise. Correct me if I'm wrong, but didn't you complete the game already once, MO?

The Open Beta becomes available to everyone today, 8 hours from the time of writing. I'm looking forward to impressions from the non-Founder crowd. Just so this is clear, there will be no more character wipes. So even though this is called a beta, it's actually just a soft launch for the game. Are you sure? I tried looking for info on this but couldn't find it.. i thought there was one more wipe then the headstart stuff starts? Played for a few hours tonight after I got in... I don't usually do that for too many games... I will probably pickup a founders pack... Definitely the $60 one, but will give some thought towards the $200 one.... Got to think about if the benefits are really worth it to me... Isn't it too late by now to get the founders packs? I think so, and yes, no more character wipes.

They're having some issues right now, but they're working on resolving them. They're posting updates as they happen in this thread. I'm spending some time in the Foundry, working on my third quest, while this resolves. Turns out A Hidden Blade got featured again today and a patch was released that multiplied the maximum tips by 5, which I'm certainly noticing. I've probably earned more than 20k Astral Diamonds today on my Foundry content alone. I don't know if you noticed, but I played your adventure, and it's certainly merited that you get the astral diamonds - well done!

Is there a level where I get the founders astral diamonds?
You should be able to get them by level 5 I believe, just open the astral diamond page and claim them. WARNING! The Astral Diamonds are BOUND to the character you claim them on, so please don't accidentially delete it, and make sure its one you want to play with!

It's been ten years - Give it up, its over! As for heroes I lost interest after season 2 as well, which is a shame because it was an awesome show in the beginning. I wonder if a reboot would work?

There's a few games these days that can only be played on Windows 8, but other than that, it seems Windows 7 is still the most popular, due to the huge divergence in UI from 7 to 8.
We got a windows 8 machine here at work, and we installed windows 7 on it rather fast though, since we hated it.

|

When I was canceling the auto renew on my gold membership the xbox live sales rep pulled up my info and said, "I can see you still use it though, you were watching netflix last night, and you played minecraft and watched amazon prime on Tuesday and Wednesday last week. Your family still enjoys the gold membership." Why do I have to speak to a freaking sales rep to cancel when most companies in the 21st century allow me to do that online? Also, do they have any idea how creepy it is to have a sales rep recite back exactly what my family was doing each time the xbox was on? That had the exact opposite effect I think they were going for. Yes, cancel this shit now. I have a PS3, 2 iPads, and 3 PCs, my family is covered for video streaming, I don't need to pay another sub fee on top of my isp and netflix fees. I feel like a sucker for paying for xbox live gold for as long as I have. I contributed to why MS feels this is still a viable business practice. Its nice that Microsoft looks at what you are doing, eh? That's some real privacy waiwing we've probably all agreed to somewhere. Anyways - MS Gold is an abomination. They offer nothing that you can't get for free (In terms of services) other places (Hell, even on the PS3) and they arbitarily decides who goes behind the paywall or not. As an example - HBO Nordic (Nordic countries rights holders to streaming HBO content) didn't even know that they app they were developing were going to cost people on top of the fee HBO Nordic themselves asks, as Netflix, video and music also costs on Xbox. PS3 though, has all the same content for free.

I hope this game is good but I don't have much faith in Marc Jacobs. A guy who used to say he doesn't play the PvP part of the game much back in Warhammer Online interviews and now he is a self proclaimed PvP guru?
Its not Warhammer Online people are basing their faith in him from - its the fact that its supposedly a Dark Age of Camelot spiritual successor, which was all about the RvsR

IMO the graphics are good for a MMO that released in 2007, but the game is still 6 years old and it shows. As it stands, I can't run the graphics on full with my ancient gaming rig, so it doesn't bother me too much. My son who has the uber gaming rig in the house on the other hand, didn't care for them at all. It's engine was built on Unreal 3, so there's apparently quite a few tweaks that can be made to it to enhance the graphics.
I agree about there likely never being a major graphic update. The game's management team is more concerned about putting out all that content that the game never got, mostly due to a very poor launch.
Well, LOTRO and DDO has both recieved 3 graphical updates (They run on the same engine) so far, so who can tell. If there is money in it, it may happen.

Crap I didn't get to play Tilt's adventure, but no big deal, this way I get to play more of it come release. In any case, I didn't see anyone post this so congrats to Tilt! http://nw.perfectworld.com/news/?p=847741Thanks! I'm getting a bit frustrated at the ratings right now. The simpler quests are continually getting top ratings and almost no 1-star ratings, while I'm getting one trash review after another between the good ones. In case any of you think the trash reviews are deserved, let me copy the text from all the 1-stars I've received so far, with my comments after: "wwww" - Really now? I guess I need to improve that part then. "Thief skills required for completion" - Read: Player can't solve a "puzzle" that requires talking to two people. "boring and not intuitive - very poor design" - What can I say? The guy probably got a panic attack as soon as his quest trail disappeared (on purpose, I might add). Also probably thinks reading is something his grandparents might have liked. "sux, sry dude" - At least he's polite about it. The rating system needs work so that stuff like that can be filtered out. I even warn these people in the quest description that I'll let them off the leash and have them think for themselves. *sigh!* Even with a whole bunch of 4 and 5-star reviews, my quest currently has an average of 3 (and the campaign 2.5) thanks to these jokers. Btw, I'm getting some rewards from the Foundry system. I received a nifty cloak and title ("Foundry Apprentice") after about 10 people had rated my quest, which was nice. Looking forward to seeing what else I'll get over time. Well, right now there is a Foundry Spotlight at the Neverwinter site that is your quest - congrats on being on the frontpage tilt! http://nw.perfectworld.com/news/?p=847741

I don't know what they may or may not have done since the prior beta, but what I saw was pretty sad. It was almost identical to the opening tutorial from Tabula Rasa, I could almost swear it was lifted directly - but with a bunch of glitches and buggy behavior. I never got much further after some bizarre mob(?) one shotted me and I was stuck in some weird plant/graphics glitch.
totally different experience here - Everything just worked out of the box, the game looked great, and ran great, and was a lot of fun. Its VERY nice to have an MMO that isnt a fantasy world based on the WoW model, and this is definitely it!

Thanks! This was a great bit of news to wake up to, even though my campaign still has an average of 2.86 or so stars. There's a large debate going on (and it has been going on for a few weeks) about how to fix the rating system. There are more problems with it than just what I experience, but I'll be sure to contribute to it. I'd like to be able to make quests for a niche audience without getting slaughtered in reviews. Are you going to be making adventures in Shadowrun as well? Depending on the editor, thats my number one most interesting thing coming up in the horizon :-)

Just a word of warning - LOTS of spoilers on the kickstarter page, if you like us are about episode 15 season one :-)
