Here we have a rare breed: a new release getting positive buzz that I have absolutely no interest in buying! Yippee!!

A newly released game that Rob isn't going to buy? That's unpossible!

Since there is never anyone in Stormwind, Darnassus, Undercity or Thunderbluff now, you would get exactly the same amount.  After the AHs are linked, the number of people now in Ironforge and Orgrimmar will still be approximately equal to the number of people in all the cities.  So the amount of "spam" you get on those channels will not change.

Maybe you don't realize just how incredibly empty the other cities are.  Not surprising since like everyone else you probably haven't ever gone to look smile

When I played on a normal server, I didn't get that sense, at least in Stormwind. There were always a decent number of players in there trying to sell items or get a group together. Granted, there weren't as many people as in IF, but it never seemed empty to me.

On the Horde side, however, I can see how that makes sense. Any time I visit (for damn leatherworking training), there's usually only a couple of players there.

Another problem, however, is that if someone is selling an item in Ogrimmar and I'm in the UC, how am I going to get the item? By mail? That's a pain (unless mail becomes quicker). I have a feeling not a lot of players will want to wait around for 15 minutes while I travel from one city to the next (even with the Zepplin).

Also not yet announced is that the Trade and LFG chat channels are getting linked between all the cities along with the auction houses.   Don't say I never tell you guys anything smile

That's a joke, right? You meant to put the winky face rather than the smiley one, right? I can't imagine how much spam I'd get if every city's trade and LFG channels are linked. It's pretty bad as it is already (and I play on the RP/PvP where there's probably less spam than other servers).
2365  Gaming / Multiplayer Madness (MMO or otherwise) / [WoW] Guess the new Alliance race! on: November 03, 2005, 12:04:51 AM
As LE mentioned, I think part of the problem has to do with the starting areas for Horde players. The Barrens and the area out side Ogrimmor is just damn ugly (and pretty damn bland). They're just one continous color for miles. And it takes forever to get from one place to another. And the areas around the Tauren city is just one big grassland. Neither starting area can compare to the dwarf/gnome starting areas or even the human zones (not the most exciting, but colorful at least).

A quick question from someone that doesn't know much about the game:

Is this a game that one can actually learn (somewhat) how to play a guitar with the controller? Or does the controller just look like a guitar and have the normal PS2 controller buttons on it.

Any idea so far on the difficulty or strategy needed? CoN was ok, but you could just use the same strategy to kill all the monsters.

2375  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / What games do you wish you'd never sold/traded in? on: October 20, 2005, 01:42:41 PM
I sold Super Puzzle Fighter II: Turbo on Ebay for about $70 a couple of years ago. I regretted it for a long time since I could never find the game anywhere, but then about 8 months ago I found another copy of the game at Blockbuster for $8! So I guess I don't regret selling it so much now.  biggrin
2376  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Xbox 360 vs Playstation 3 on: October 20, 2005, 12:53:56 PM
I'll go for the PS3 just because the Playstation 2 always had more games that I wanted to play. I don't see any reason why this will change for the next generation (and looking at the announced titles for XBox360, that looks like a safe bet). I like the quirky Japanese titles and the TBS games; something which never really appeared on the original XBox. The hardware specs are just secondary to me.

Her two reasons (she seemed eager to talk about this):

1.)  The feeling of 'not being ready.'

2.)  Fear.

If those are the two main reasons, then you shouldn't be too worried. She just needs someone that she trusts and is extremely comfortable with. If you need to get some within a week or two, you're probably out of luck. But if waiting a couple of months is ok, then you should be good to go.

2381  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Dragon Quest 8 free demo available on: October 18, 2005, 04:25:46 PM
Bump to say that I got my demo yesterday in the mail. Thanks for the link.

As for the demo itself, the parts inside the town seemed pretty cool. I liked the graphics/animation and how you can interact with almost any drawer/chest/bookshelf. And even the odd French accent on a couple of the speaking characters wasn't too bad. For some reason, I got a heavy dose of RPG nostalgia (even with the new graphics); not sure exactly why, but it was good.

Once outside the town, however, I wasn't as impressed. The random battles I can deal with, I suppose. I found the combat to be fairly boring, however. Perhaps it's because the characters are low level and without many powers, but it seemed like combat was just attack-attack-attack-heal-attack-attack-win battle. Sort of blah. Did like to see the slimes again, though.  biggrin

Looks like the expansion will be called "The Burning Crusade" and will allow addicts to jones up to Level 70.  All new grinding!  Yaaay!

How exactly would this work? If you don't buy the expansion, you can only level to 60 but there would be other characters at level 70? If that's the case, wouldn't any non-expansion players be at a distinct disadvantage (especially those on a PvP server)?

If she likes you, she won't give a shit about when you called (that is, unless you waited too long). But if she is turned off that you called her the next day, then she's probably too shallow to bother dating anyway.

All I'm saying is that if the expansion is only adding high level stuff, I (me, no one else) doesn't have need for it since I have no high level characters. Now if it added mostly high level stuff but also added a couple of new classes, I'm sure I'd be one of the first in line for it since that's something I can use. In no way was I saying that there isn't a need for more high level content - just that it wouldn't affect me right now.

If the expansion is mainly for upper level folks (hero classes etc), then I'll have no reason to buy it unless I eventually get to a high level. What do I care about new races for? They don't really change the gameplay that much (and I assume that even non-expansion purchasers will be able to play along side the new races even if they can't be one). The gameplay is all about classes, not races.

Wow - Kerry Collins did look like a zombie. Maybe there's something we don't know about him.....

But really, as you mentioned, Plummer looks nothing like him either. I mean, hell, if you're going to scan the faces of 200 players, shouldn't you at least get the big positions like QB for every team? Especially since they're the faces you'll probably see most often. At least the made Janikowski a fatty like real life.

edit: And what's with the two fumbles in two offensive plays? I hope that's just a coincidence.

I figure that the security system might be something derived from the magnetic phenomena the research center (circa: 1980) was meant to unravel. The polar bears and the "sickness" might also have been caused by the "accident."

The video mentioned that they were doing zoological research (and even showed polar bears), so that could explain those aspects of the bears and shark (i.e. possibly doing genetic research on animals).

As for why only 1 of the six orientation films was present; it seemed as though there was supposed to be one film for each research station. At the beginning, the film had something like "Orientation 3 of 6 - Swan Island" written along the bottom. I imagine that there are 6 different research stations on 6 different islands, each with their own film.

The other 2 GBA Castlevania games are excellent- Harmony of Dissonance is generally considered the worst of the GBA pack with Aria of Sorrow (the DS prequel) by far considered the best.  Play Aria of Sorrow before the DS game.

Where in the world can you find Aria of Sorrow? I've looked all over my local stores on multiple occasions and have never found it. One time, on calling my EB, they said that they had recently gotten in a used copy. I rushed over there only to find out that he had confused Aria of Sorrow with Circle of the Moon.  frown

Back on topic, Symphony of the Night rocks like Castlevania game has rocked since (or before, for that matter, though Castlevania 2: Simon's Quest was pretty good).

And Super Metroid is the best of the side scrolling Metroid games. I think they have a version of it on the GBA now.
