I watched a movie called The Bay last night. More or less an environmental found footage horror movie with a bit more substance than you usually find in these sorts of things. It wasn't great but had some good moments and the premise was interesting enough. I'd give it 3/5 stars.

Is he playing on two screens at once? Awesome? I didn't notice any lag at all.

Forgive my ignorance but why would you ever do that? Or is the video mainly just to show that there isn't lag and most people will play far away from their tv? On that note, does the PS4 need to be on for remote play?

That workout program for the Xbox1 looks great. I don't think I would ever use it, but I'm sure that'll be a big draw for a lot of people.

Aside from causing intense pain, the venom of the spider can also cause priapism in humans. Erections resulting from the bite are uncomfortable, can last for many hours and can lead to impotence.

The ultimate irony: an erection so large and long lasting it results in impotence.
124  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: Previous Launch Console Experiences on: November 04, 2013, 09:31:11 PM
I've never bought a console at launch. Captain Caveman did (or tried) a few times, though. From what I remember he got a PS2 at launch (I remember playing a bunch of Madden and SSX) but failed miserably in his quest to get a 360 at launch. He got one eventually, but I can't remember how long it was after the launch.

I propose we throw in images or arguments from outdated console wars any time the current one starts getting to bickery.

Oh man - I lusted for a Genesis and Sword of Vermillion. I was so pissed when my dad wouldn't let my brother and I sell our NES to buy a Genesis because he thought no console other than one made by Nintendo would last. I was even madder when my friend to whom we were going to sell the NES then bought a Genesis.

Now that Norv is gone, SD is actually playing some decent football. While I thought Indy would beat them, I wasn't shocked when SD won.

Unfortunately for Indy, Reggie Wayne is done for the year with a torn ACL. They have some good young receivers, but Wayne was still their most reliable and consistent WR.

Just a note, I think (someone else would need to verify) that the price you are shown is before any subsidy you might be eligible for. So if you are eligible, you'll  need to take that into account when calculating your costs.

Quote from: ATB on July 15, 2013, 07:21:22 PM

A masterwork to cap off this generation.

Spoiler for Hiden:
I would have made the same choices Joel made humanity be damned.

Same here, and I so very much felt aligned with...
Spoiler for Hiden:
Joel's state of mind and his decisions at the end that I'm having a hard time understanding how other people could have felt any different.  I'm catching up on end-of-game discussions around the interweb and I'm boggled at seeing so many people say "well Joel isn't a hero" or "the ending is what Joel would do, not what you as the player want to do."

I see his actions at the end as being the heroic path.  If Ellie herself consented to giving her life, maybe that introduces some grey area, but to kill an innocent kid to get at the cure?  Or even an innocent person, regardless of age?  I saw every Firefly in that hospital as a monster, surgeons included.  They had lost their humanity, same as the cannibals, and the only right path was to rescue Ellie at any cost.

The only place I saw any grey area at the end was in lying to Ellie about what happened at the hospital.  But I think Joel knows Ellie well enough to think she had a very high chance of giving her life to humanity voluntarily.  That was the point he really abandoned humanity for the sake of saving Ellie, not when he was in the hospital.  I'd like to think I would have done the same thing.  Sorry, humanity.

I disagree

Spoiler for Hiden:
I think Joel knew that Ellie was doing it voluntarily the whole time he was going to rescue her.  The voice recordings of the firefly leader and the difficulty she was having with the decision too highlight this I think. Ellie was willing,  she was making the sacrifice for the greater good, but those who cared about her were not necessarily ok with it. Firefly leader swallowed the pain and went with the 'greater good' despite her personal feelings. But, Joel could not abide losing his daughter again, so he went full vengeful dad in a way that he could not with his own child. I don't know that it was the heroic path or not.  I know it was the one any father would make.

I just finished the game and I'm with ATB on this:

Spoiler for Hiden:
Joel's decision is largely selfish. He lost his daughter and he's not going to lose Ellie. I think he knows that Ellie would have voluntarily given up her life if it meant saving humanity, but he couldn't give her up. And at the end, I think Ellie knows, or at least deeply suspects, that Joel is lying.

From the beginning, Joel is shown to be not such a great guy. He kills indiscriminately and without much thought. He gains some of his humanity through his connection to Ellie, but from almost anyone else's perspective, he's till a pretty bad dude. Whether his actions at the end were right or not is up for debate, but I find it hard to think of Joel as a "hero".

Thanks for the reviews. One small critique of the Diablo review: both the video and, to a lesser extent, the text focused  on comparing the 360 version to the PC version. This makes the game a bit hard to judge because not much time is spent in the review talking about the actually gameplay. While I know that many people on this forum have some familiarity with the PC version, there are probably some of us like myself and many non-forum members who don't know the ins and outs of the game. The review is well written and the video is good, they just didn't give the level of detail about the gameplay I was hoping for. I guess I could always read the PC review to get that information, but that shouldn't really be necessary. In any case, thanks for the review. Keep up the good work!  thumbsup

The dumbest thing I ever did was bringing an old, non-working, WWII rifle to an elementary school's ground to film a movie for school (I think it was about the JFK assassination?). It was the afternoon so school was out, but we didn't think about the kids in afterschool. We filmed a few scenes and then came back the next day. As soon as we got there the principal rushed over and asked what we were doing. When we told him, he let us know that the day before kids in afterschool had seen us, freaked out, and the whole afterschool went on lockdown. The cops had been called but we were gone by the time they arrived. The principal was kind enough to let us finish filming our movie in an area of the school where no kids would be around.

This was back in 1995 or so. If that had happened after Columbine, I'm sure we would have been in some serious trouble.

iTunes sucks, but the interface of the iPod is light years ahead of the Zune in ease-of-use. My dad got a Zune a few years back and it took me a ridiculous amount of time to figure out how to do the simplest things.

Commando was never all that great to begin with but it has two things going for it:

1) The music, like most 80s action movies, rocked.

2) "I let him go". Easily one of the top 5 Arnold lines.

It also taught me how to escape an airplane that has just taken off. Assuming, of course, it's flying over a swamp...

Spoiler for Hiden:
the audience may know that Ender's "test" at the end isn't really a test. Hopefully they don't go that route because that would lose the biggest impact of the book. Of course, they've already spoiled the end in the trailer, so who knows what they'll do.

That trailer also makes it clear that Harrison Ford is just going through the motions. That was one seriously emotionless voice over.
