4  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / System Shock 2 Saves on: August 29, 2013, 01:49:19 PM
I recently acquired System Shock 2 (I believe it was Gamersgate, not GOG) and I was excited to revisit the game.

Now, though, I've run into a problem where I can't save the game. I can go to the Save menu. I can choose a save slot. I can type in a save game name. I can see it flash green when I press Enter. I can then see it on the list of save games.

However, when I choose the Load menu, there are no save files on the list to choose from. The save game I created in the Save menu is not there.

Has anyone else experienced this or does anyone know of a fix?

Now, we have five players with one vote.

SC and purge have moved off each other to triggercut their secondary accusers.

Knowing that we only have two misses makes this a more crucial Day 1 lynch than usual.

Based on the small sample size, ravenvii's vote seemed the most wolfish.

So why are people looking beyond Purge and Soulchilde?  They are the vote leaders - what more can you ask for?

We can ask why they are the vote leaders.

They put each other at 1 vote. So, would a wolf be the first accuser out of the gate? Would a wolf immediately triggercut? Would wolves point at each other right out of the gate?

Or should we look at the votes that came after, those of raven and stess (especially since they seem to be doing a little posting two-step)?

What's also interesting is that stess is now wondering why no one else is looking at the vote leaders. However, when he had the chance, he didn't vote for a vote leader. He voted for someone to even up the votes. Could he have done that to separate himself from a partner already voting on purge?

envy is working long hours. Would he have drawn wolf twice in a row?

msteelers thinks I'm a wolf.

JayDee wants to be different.

I'm still thinking things through. I'll have a vote in this morning.

I'm enjoying this very much.

My biggest complaint is that, on the iPhone, the text is miniscule. With the boxes and banners they're using, especially since some of the flavor text is scrollable, they could easily double the size of the text without any impact on the screen at all.

Yeah, I know, "Hey, you kids. Get off my lawn." smile

Even so, I'm very pleased with the game.

I can't decide if I want to go melee, ranged, or magic. I'll sit down tonight and go slowly through the skill trees. I may end up setting Katarina for ranged and play Van Helsing as melee for the first run, but the other skills are very tempting, too.

Sweet.

Just picked up Wiz 8. I think I gave my discs to my brother years ago. Can't wait to try it again.

I do have a question about the Wiz 6 and 7 pack. I never played those, so I'm curious how compelling they are or if they are considered "better" than Wiz 8. I ask because I consider Might and Magic VI better than VIII. I would like to start with the "best" game between Wiz 6, 7, and 8.

I wish there was a way to know what causes the problem or if you can go from fine to borked.  My last session went just fine, but I'm worried to jump back in.

Yes. I'm still worried, too.

What I've been doing is, after a long play session, I will "save and exit to main screen." Then, I will load the game from the main menu to make sure it's still a good save. Then, I will "exit without saving." At that point, I'm assuming I have a good save, so I will copy that to a flash drive.

If my game ever does go from fine to borked, I won't lose more than one session (hopefully).

continued a save game. 40 hours in - no issues.

Cool, thanks raz.  I think I'll go ahead and finally unwrap my copy tonight and give it a go then.

I finally couldn't stand waiting for the save game resolution, so I saved my level 30 DDDA progress to a flash drive and jumped in. I'm now level 50 and haven't had any save game problems since. I feel terrible for those with save game issues, but it seems I am unaffected by the issue.

I'm guessing the From a Different Sky quests will carryover, right?

How about the bountys (kill X direwolves, etc.)?

How about the gather quests (war bugles, seeker tokens, kept giant fish, etc.)?

I'm trying to figure out which types of quests to finish before I see the Duke.

On my playthroughs,i have taken my time and tried to do all quests before seeing the Duke,However i do know that these quests end if you see the Duke

Reapers Scorn-Bring a Wakestone to that lazy kid who is on his back and not moving or breathing near the Pawn Guild in Gran Soren

A Troublesome Tome-bring the book from the Thieves den to Steffen in the square

Dying of Curiosity-make sure you find Valmiro 3 times and give him his green stuff(Unusual Beech, near the entrance of the Encampment and Witchwood)

There may be more, but they are the quests i know about

Thank you!

I have finished all of those. It sounds like it's mostly side quests that aren't carried over, but the fetch and bounty quests will.

I just hit level 50. I'm in the mid 50s on the From a Different Sky quests and I have just a few more of the fetch quests to do. I'll probably visit the Duke soon, just to move the story before I track down the last 6 war bugles and 10 seeker tokens.

Thanks also metallicorphan for your guide to finding the airtight flasks. That was a HUGE help!!!

Well, with no resolution in sight, I decided to risk it.

I played for a couple hours with no save issues. As metallicorphan suggested, I copied the  save files to USB first. When I quit, I made sure I could load the save game, then quit without saving and copied over my latest progress.

So far, so good. I'll have to see what tomorrow brings. <fingers crossed>

30  Gaming / Portable Gaming & Apps / Re: [iOS] Sorcery! on: May 05, 2013, 02:18:34 PM
I think what wonderpug means is similar to what I was saying in my post above his.

Over half the spells need some sort of reagent. I completed a playthrough and only found one reagent. That means that, unless the branching paths are so numerous that I only experienced a small percentage of Chapter 1, only a small portion of the entire spellbook is accessible in Chapter 1.

It seems strange to include the entire spellbook if it most of it can't be used.

That's why I'm hoping that the Chapters will combine to make one big game experience and not be separate apps (like Misguided posted that the devs had said they would be).

Edit: I did start a second playthrough last night. I'm very early on, but I have taken a completely different path (once passing through the beginning gate) than I did the first time. It will be interesting to see how much, if any, overlap there will be.

Actually, the developer has said on the TA forums that each chapter will be a completely separate APP.

I hope that they are not completely separate. I hope that, for example, if you own Chapter 1 and purchase Chapter 2, that they will combine. I found a few things in Chapter 1 that don't seem to have a solution (items that need more advanced equipment, spells that need rare items, areas that only seem accessible with advanced spells, etc.) that seem to indicate that Chapter 1 content has more available than currently accessible.

They say they have a system in place to import characters from one to the next.

Ah. Thanks. That makes sense. When I made it to the gates of Khare, I was given a choice to save to the Cloud. Then, I was given a spell (code) that I can use when part 2 is ready.

If this release (part 1) is indeed the shortest, I will have no hesitation purchasing the next three.
33  Gaming / Portable Gaming & Apps / Re: [iOS] Sorcery! on: May 04, 2013, 05:36:11 PM
Not long after I posted the above, I made it to the end of Part 1: The Shamutanti Hills.

As it turns out, it is a pretty short adventure. I didn't time it, but I'm guessing I made it through in 2-3 hours. Of course, as I mentioned, there were several branching paths along the way, so I'm not sure how much content might be involved over multiple playthroughs and playstyles (combat, magic, friendly, aggressive, etc.) I'm going to start a new game soon to see how different it plays on a second go round.

Near the end, I received a key that will let me unlock the gates to the city of Khare, which is Part 2 (of 4). I wonder if the $4.99 purchase price will get the next three installments or if they will each need to be purchased.

If all four parts are $4.99 total, I wouldn't hesitate to recommend it to anyone. If it will be $20 total, I'm not sure that there will be $20 worth of game unless you really enjoy this style of game (which I do).

Thanks to this thread, I took the plunge on this a couple of days ago. I'm glad I did. It's very well done and I'm enjoying it immensely.

Replayability should be good because there are enough choices that I imagine it would play out very differently over a few playthroughs.

Nicely enough, there is a rewind feature if you meet an untimely death. So, you can play it as a rogue-like and see how far you can get or you can keep your progress and take another path.

Big thumbs up so far.

Also,Ferrystones are 2000 each.....which is a lot cheaper than they were in the game when it was first released(i think they were something stupid like 200k,which incidentally is roughly the price of some of those outfits i saw..ouch!!)...sure it's not unlimited, but they are dirt cheap

Very nice. I just made it to the Black Cat myself. The main reason I wanted the unlimited ferrystone was because you're right that they were incredibly expensive in the original game. At 2000, there's no great need for the unlimited one. So, while it would be nice to have the bonuses, I'm no longer pining after any of them. smile

Level 18 and counting. I'm enjoying this as much as the first time around and looking forward to the Dark Arisen content.

That's a good idea and what I should have done  Unfortunately (or fortunately for the gameplay), I'm already at level 12, so I don't want to start again.

I did get the items when I loaded my old character. They just weren't there when I started the new character.

I'm not really worried about the rift currency or the outfits, but I do wish that I had the unlimited ferrystone.

I'll just have to hope it gets patched in eventually.
