Remind me which quests aee lost when you go to the Duke. I'm guessing the From a Different Sky quests will carryover, right? How about the bountys (kill X direwolves, etc.)? How about the gather quests (war bugles, seeker tokens, kept giant fish, etc.)? I'm trying to figure out which types of quests to finish before I see the Duke.

Well, with no resolution in sight, I decided to risk it. I played for a couple hours with no save issues. As metallicorphan suggested, I copied the save files to USB first. When I quit, I made sure I could load the save game, then quit without saving and copied over my latest progress. So far, so good. I'll have to see what tomorrow brings. <fingers crossed>

CeeKay, from what you've read, does it seem that the corrupted saves are affecting the majority or a minority of players?
I couldn't say either way. it seems a majority of that thread has issues but it may be that people with no issues aren't saying anything or don't even know the issue exists. Thanks. I wish they'd let us know how common or rare the issue is.

the issue is for people exporting their DD save across to DDDA...i started a new game
Oh, I guess I misunderstoond CeeKay's link. I thought the files were being corrupted with a recent patch (after the initial release of DDDA). I also started a new game with the release of DDDA, but I thought the patch last week was corrupting game files.

I think what wonderpug means is similar to what I was saying in my post above his. Over half the spells need some sort of reagent. I completed a playthrough and only found one reagent. That means that, unless the branching paths are so numerous that I only experienced a small percentage of Chapter 1, only a small portion of the entire spellbook is accessible in Chapter 1. It seems strange to include the entire spellbook if it most of it can't be used. That's why I'm hoping that the Chapters will combine to make one big game experience and not be separate apps (like Misguided posted that the devs had said they would be). Edit: I did start a second playthrough last night. I'm very early on, but I have taken a completely different path (once passing through the beginning gate) than I did the first time. It will be interesting to see how much, if any, overlap there will be.

Actually, the developer has said on the TA forums that each chapter will be a completely separate APP. I hope that they are not completely separate. I hope that, for example, if you own Chapter 1 and purchase Chapter 2, that they will combine. I found a few things in Chapter 1 that don't seem to have a solution (items that need more advanced equipment, spells that need rare items, areas that only seem accessible with advanced spells, etc.) that seem to indicate that Chapter 1 content has more available than currently accessible.

They say they have a system in place to import characters from one to the next.
Ah. Thanks. That makes sense. When I made it to the gates of Khare, I was given a choice to save to the Cloud. Then, I was given a spell (code) that I can use when part 2 is ready. If this release (part 1) is indeed the shortest, I will have no hesitation purchasing the next three.

Not long after I posted the above, I made it to the end of Part 1: The Shamutanti Hills. As it turns out, it is a pretty short adventure. I didn't time it, but I'm guessing I made it through in 2-3 hours. Of course, as I mentioned, there were several branching paths along the way, so I'm not sure how much content might be involved over multiple playthroughs and playstyles (combat, magic, friendly, aggressive, etc.) I'm going to start a new game soon to see how different it plays on a second go round. Near the end, I received a key that will let me unlock the gates to the city of Khare, which is Part 2 (of 4). I wonder if the $4.99 purchase price will get the next three installments or if they will each need to be purchased. If all four parts are $4.99 total, I wouldn't hesitate to recommend it to anyone. If it will be $20 total, I'm not sure that there will be $20 worth of game unless you really enjoy this style of game (which I do).

Thanks to this thread, I took the plunge on this a couple of days ago. I'm glad I did. It's very well done and I'm enjoying it immensely. Replayability should be good because there are enough choices that I imagine it would play out very differently over a few playthroughs. Nicely enough, there is a rewind feature if you meet an untimely death. So, you can play it as a rogue-like and see how far you can get or you can keep your progress and take another path. Big thumbs up so far.

Yes, that's the one. I won't spoiler it, since it's in the list in your Wiki quote. The one I found was in the Dragonforged's dwelling/cave. Very nice that they have so many available. I just picked up the one in Everfall, so I have two and counting. Now, I'm debating if I want to change my Mage to Sorceror or Mystic Knight.

I just found a port crystal that i am sure was not in the original game,it was at the bottom of the I just found one myself. I don't remember them from the original game, either. Very cool addition to the game. I found mine: I'll have to head back and get the one you found, too.

Also,Ferrystones are 2000 each.....which is a lot cheaper than they were in the game when it was first released(i think they were something stupid like 200k,which incidentally is roughly the price of some of those outfits i saw..ouch!!)...sure it's not unlimited, but they are dirt cheap
Very nice. I just made it to the Black Cat myself. The main reason I wanted the unlimited ferrystone was because you're right that they were incredibly expensive in the original game. At 2000, there's no great need for the unlimited one. So, while it would be nice to have the bonuses, I'm no longer pining after any of them. Level 18 and counting. I'm enjoying this as much as the first time around and looking forward to the Dark Arisen content.

That's a good idea and what I should have done Unfortunately (or fortunately for the gameplay), I'm already at level 12, so I don't want to start again. I did get the items when I loaded my old character. They just weren't there when I started the new character. I'm not really worried about the rift currency or the outfits, but I do wish that I had the unlimited ferrystone. I'll just have to hope it gets patched in eventually.

Did you check your storage at the inn? My stone and outfits wherein there for a new character. The 100k rift appeared in my inventory at some point too. Not sure if they were there at first.
No ferrystone or outfits in storage (no 100k rift yet, either). Thanks for the suggestion, though. I appreciate it!

I made my new character last night. I'm enjoying getting back into the game. I even took a peek at the Dark Arisen area. I was a bit surprised it was available to a new character since it's high level content, but what I saw looks cool. Like CeeKay, I did not get the 100k RCs or the infinite ferrystone on my new character.

CeeKay, When you started your new character, did you get to keep the 100,000 rift currency and infinite ferrystone that came with loading the expansion? It's not a big deal and I'm going to start over anyway, I was just curious if they carried over to the new character, since it seems they are rewards for having owned the original and the expansion.

I can answer #1 at least, as I never start a battle with Esther, and I've charmed quite a few monsters. In fact, the only time I switch to her is if I need to charm something (or if the battle is going really badly, and she's the only one left).
As for the other 2 questions, I've been focusing on just a few familiars and equipping them as they go into active rotation.
That's the way I'm doing it, too. I have a handful of familiars that I've morphed to their "super" class. The rest I rotate in and out to get them levels, but I rarely use them in combat.

That's a shame about the Wizard's Edition and Customer Service blunders. As for the game itself, I am enthralled. I just hit level 15 and the game keeps getting better and better. I'm very pleased. This is the first game since Demons' Souls and Dragon Quest VIII that has pulled me in so quickly and completely.

I've been having a wonderful time with this game over the past week. I hit level 30 last night as I took down a griffin. It was an awesome fight and I would have died for sure at one point in the fight when the griffin took me airborne and dropped me, but my pawn caught me before I hit the ground. I think I actually stood up and cheered. I love the pawn system. I've spent more discipline points and gold on my pawn (Briseyu - Warrior) than I have on my character (Sorceror).

I'm finally good. I can now see the Play button. There was a player on the Blizzard forums that uploaded the needed files for ProgramData/battlenet that I couldn't get to come through. On the off chance that anyone here has the same issue I had, you can find it here.

I seem to be pretty well hosed, for now. After the "corrupt file" message at 77%, the launcher hung on 0% updating. I finally closed it and restarted. Now, when I try to launch from the desktop icon, the setup file that I originally downloaded, or even if I download the new client setup, I am now hanging on a "Updating setup files" window and can't get past it. Ack.

Ugh. Got to 77%. Then, it gave me a "corrupt file" message and closed the launcher. Now, the launcher is hung at "Updating Blizzard Launcher (0%).

Worst launch ever! So, the fire has stopped falling. (Yay) But, now (after agreeing), I get the same unable to initialize streaming message as Cov. I reckon a couple others may be trying to install now, too.

Hopefully they'll let us run the installer a little bit earlier than the actual release time.
Well, I hear: We will be unlocking the game's installer at 8:01 a.m. PDT on May 14. This will allow you to begin installing the game, troubleshoot any issues you run into, download and install the launch day 1.0.1 patch, and be ready to play as soon as the servers come online.
