Yeah been using Mozy + Weekly Acronis images to multiple drives.  I have around 30GB with Mozy now..took 5 days to sync up the first time, but it's nice not to have to worry about photos etc.  The imaging is important because I'm running RAID0.

QP, this is where I am going to disagree with you.  I think you are looking at this from the standpoint of an electronic gamer, rather than the viewpoint of a boardgamer.  What they have done is put the board game up on the screen in a clear, conscise format.  No flash (other than some nifty background music and the occasional blimp, balloon, or battleship crossing the screen) and an accurate translation of the rules as they stand with the board game.  I played a couple of games last night, and much like Catan and Carcassone, loved every game.

Lost Cities is kinda hard to do...it's a very simple card game, so there isn't much they can do with it without changing the fundamental game underneath.  I would rather have a simple, direct translation of the board game than a version with wierd rules (or rules dropped) to accomodate more flash/content being added.

you can't even fully zoom in on all parts of the map!  City names obscure the routes sometimes.  Not a big deal for long, but just an example.  But hey, it works!

Okay posted this on another thread...I was trying to find this thread on OO for an update, then realized OO was offline when I actually made this post hehe.

The games from TO Jam 2008 are up...lots of XNA stuff, I think I had the only gamemaker based one..check out the scourge, one of my favorites this year.

(All the games were made in 3 days, though some there have had a bit of work done after the fact).

here's mine.  Not the best, but I made it solo in 3 days (had a sound guy, that's it!)

I dunno i like TTR:Europe and have played quite a bit, I think 65 is a fair review for this game.  Is it TTR?  Yes.  Did the developers put one iota more of development than required into the game?  No.  I mean if you like TTR it's probably worth it, it is a recreation of the board game.  But it's a half-assed one that brings NOTHING extra to the table; the art is mediocre as is the sound.  It's about like Lost Cities on XBLA, a minimalist conversion of the board game.  Catan is still the best boardgame on XBLA still (I mean in terms of the translation, not necessarily saying it's the best board game)

But i'm not going to complain about buying it, I think boardgames on Live are an awesome option.

if they're not grouping anyways, how will their going away improve anything?  it just means less revenue to support the game.

They would group if there wasn't a viable alternative. That's the whole problem. Unless there is a definitive incentive to group *above and beyond* the incentive to solo, then people aren't going to do it. The problem with Conan, and practically every MMO since WoW, is that they've taken the group incentive way, or diminished it to a point that people don't care about it a great deal.

I don't know if there is a way to put the genie back in the bottle that Blizzard set free. If you created a group-centric MMO today, people are going to whine and bitch that they can't solo, and the developers will cave. We've seen it happen with both EQ2 and Vanguard - both games launched as group experiences, both games had to rush to put in solo content post-release.

I agree that the way to bring back grouping as a viable alternative is to do some of the things WoW (ironically) has also done - summon stones, shared quests, better group rewards, etc. Unfortunately too many MMOs these days are so worried about pleasing the soloers, that they neglect the group aspect. And this approach of making the game solo friendly up to a point, then turning it into a group fest (ala Conan) simply doesn't work. People solo all the way to 50 or so, hit the wall where they have to group, then say fuck it and either quit the game or roll up an alt. Grouping should be actively encourage from the start, not tacked on as some sort of end game, hardcore niche element.

It's probably going to take years for devs to realize this and finally put the multiplayer back in the MMO. I give Blizzard credit for attempting to swing the pendulum back the other way with WoW's group stuff, but since they themselves are responsible for the solo problem in the first place, it's hard for me to look upon them too kindly.

Oh brother, let's compare the MMO subscription rates when EQ was big, to WOW.  You know what I bet the hardcore group crowd are still there, there's just A LOT of OTHER people now.  I also think that a lot of people do like grouping, well guess what, a lot of people don't have the hour it used to take to get things moving in EQ, then be locked in for hours and hours of raiding with hellish death penalties.  I had fun with EQ back in the day, but in those days I was single, with no kids smile  If anything you need to blame the developers that give up on MMO's (though how many actually shutdown?) if they don't instantly meet WOW's sales rates.

I don't think you're the target demographic anymore, you're more like the hardcore flight sim demographic now - time to grab what MMO gems you find and hold on tight!

You do realize you can store things in your bank, right? Just make sure you don't put a price on it, for obvious reasons. biggrin

or better yet put a price of 2G...never know someone may screw up and buy it smile

It truly boggles my mind how if a single player shooter doesn't have multiplayer, people bitch and moan. Yet plop them down in the middle of a massively multiplayer world with thousands of other people, and all they want to do is solo quests.

And I say that because I know exactly why the first 20 levels appeal so much to people. It's structured like a single player game, and people nowadays don't want to be bothered with the "massively multiplayer" aspect of their MMOs.

Personally I can't f*****ing STAND Tortage (granted, I've been through it a dozen times). The game really doesn't get fun for me until you hit late 20s, early 30s and can really bounce around the different zones. People bitching about content just aren't bothering to seek out anything besides green solo quests.

Actually i hate Tortage also...so it's really levels 20-35 that were fun smile  I guess though, the issue is seeing the wizard behind the curtains earlier and earlier in MMOs.  Oh and I was playing a bear shaman so I was actually doing solo yellow/orange quests slywink

I remember with Austin and a 3rd account with a useless character we didn't need - so we started doing that sacrifice dealy where you get some kind of gem for a (full xp death), and we killed this ranger character over and over from like 50 to who knows where.

The fun part is we had the ranger begging for his (her?) life, and running around yelling help me, before dying again.  People were concerned and they thought something fishy was going on, and the necro was receiving all sorts of "hey stop that" tells, lucky we didn't get banned!

I have a decent machine, Vista SP1, 8800 Ultra, and it's run fine with no problems, at 1650x1080 at high settings.  Probably the most stable MMO i've played.  It crashes on exit that's about it (and that's after the game is already closed, it brings up a not responding message)

There are popular classes like Conqueror, Barbarian, and Bear Shaman, but you see a good mix. I think they did a great job with the class selection. Other than possibly the Necro, there are really no "weak" classes at the moment.
