If you have cash in the bank, should be no problem, simply pay your rent in advance. Landlord should be amenable to add'l months in advance. Eg just say you'll pay 3 months in advance on a 6 month lease or somesuch...

There's a hybrid version of the Lexus RX330 SUV coming soon too.
*But I'm guessing that might be a little bit out of your price range. Too bad. the 400h - lists at 48k+ about 10k more than I would contemplate. Toyota Highlander hybrid is coming this calendar year too.

I was thinking the same thing. I may just do that... If you find it, please post... while not my cup of tea, I'm curious as to whether it is all BS or not. Here's the epinions page on the book: EpinionsThe book is helpful, don't get me wrong. But for the price of the book go and check it out at the library. Better yet every program in his book is available online, with criteria to be met, and the applications to go with them. Simply go to http://www.cfda.gov and find the program you are interested in. The site mentioned is called Catalog of Federal Domestic Assistance. It is a wonderful search engine within itself. You can find information by criteria, interest, program, or look through the entire catalog at all programs.

Actually, Hal Turner used to run a Neo-nazi radio show but I believe it was shutdown due to lack of funds. The reason his real estate website doesn't say anything is probably because it wouldn't be real good for business... Quick google reveals this from ratbags: The second site is The Hal Turner Show owned, obviously, by mad radio announcer Hal Turner. While Fred is a single-issue hater and ranter, Hal is a bit more eclectic and adds racism to the religious bigotry and homophobia. (Hal seems to be having some trouble deciding whose side he is on in the Middle East at the moment. As he hates both Arabs and Jews, he doesn't know quite what to do about the Palestinians.)

Still.. has anyone here tried Lesko's program? Lol, the joker/riddler. Thanks guys, lots of interesting ideas/comments so far. I really do want to know if anyone has used his program though. Anyone else care to comment? I was thinking that it would be a good thing to look for his book at the library, if you can find it...

Most of these are Multi-Level Marketing (also known as MLM)schemes, if not outright Pyramid/Ponzi schemes. YMMV, of course. Pyramid scheme wikiMLM wikiPonzi wikiEven in the best case, the odds are it will end up costing you more money than you will ever make. If they ask you for *any* money up front dial your bullshit detector to it's highest level and make sure you don't get taken.

Non-Gaming / Off-Topic / CBS Football Pre-Game show (rant)
|
on: January 18, 2005, 07:55:37 PM
|
I just wish CBS would can it already with the little "football theme song" they play as they go to EVERy freaking commercial break.
I never really noticed it until last week, when I was watching football while my wife was around. It about drove her crazy. Now it gets to me, too.
Fox games are so pleasant by comparison. Fox is horrible -- they are the ones who started adding sound effects to their graphics. Their baseball telecasts are THE WORST. Who the heck needs an engine racing sound to go with an animated baseball as they switch. I think it was originally a NASCAR marketing ploy. Now ESPN is copying it with over-decibeled sound effects for the Top 10. end rant.

I'll second Buffy, seasons 1-4. Season 1 is very low budget but you can see the potential. So far season 5 is good too, but the show definitely loses some of it's quirky charm as the show goes on and delves into some more 'serious' stories. Haven't watched 6 or 7 yet.
x-files are also good - much better than I expected. I always hated the show based on its desire (based on my early perceptions) to promulgate UFO and conspiracy theories.
Twin Peaks - tough to find the pilot or season 2 however
The Prisoner
Other, non-SF/Action/Adventure shows:
The West Wing (seasons 1 -3). The show drops off a cliff once Sorkin is removed from creative control. It won multiple emmy's for a reason
SportsNight - another Sorkin show. Entire 2-season run can be found in one DVD set.

Non-Gaming / Off-Topic / Greatest Universal Remote Ever!
|
on: December 28, 2004, 08:01:35 AM

One thing that some of the earlier Universals had a problem with was losing all your Macros when the batteries died. Make sure you get one with a backup system (backup battery, other), or you will likely return it, like my roomate had to with his favorite Universal. Otherwise you'll have to go through the hassle of reprogramming the remote frequently, as those universals can eat batteries. Two things, memory is retained when the batteries are removed and even if you do lose all of the programming, you just need to connect the remote to your PC, log in to the harmony site and reload the programming (even if you throw your remote against the wall and have to buy a new one). Nice.

Non-Gaming / Off-Topic / Greatest Universal Remote Ever!
|
on: December 27, 2004, 07:39:21 PM

If this gave me full functionality of all my stuff with one remote I would consider it.
Pig That's specifically why I selected this one. It can control up to 15 individual devices. As new components are released support for them is added to the configuration web site. It has enough buttons for most everything, plus up to 6 custom label buttons on the LCD screen for each activity. In fact, this remote can switch my TV to other inputs instantly, something the remote that came with the TV couldn't do (watching a DVD meant switching the video input 5 times, no more)! It takes some setup time, collecting model numbers on your components, configuring extra buttons that aren't automatically configured, but in the end it's completely worth it to me. One thing that some of the earlier Universals had a problem with was losing all your Macros when the batteries died. Make sure you get one with a backup system (backup battery, other), or you will likely return it, like my roomate had to with his favorite Universal. Gotta be PIT. PHI has injuries across the front line and might have some serious trouble stopping the run. Also, Vinny has had some good games, whereas Manning has gone straight down. Picks and Sacks galore. Dallas might even give Philly a run in that game, if they have trouble stopping Jones.

Non-Gaming / Off-Topic / Charlie Brown Christmas allways gets me...
|
on: December 08, 2004, 06:54:10 PM
|
I actually think Charlie Brown Christmas is boring. The music is great, but the actual show is just a snoozefest. I thought that when I was a kid too, so it's not just an adult thing for me. That's why I like it so much. It's the antithesis of the Christmas season in many ways - it's low-key and quiet, unlike the high-stress, high-pressure hurry that threatens to crush us mere mortals during December. There's plenty of OMG XMAS SANTA COMING!!!!11 specials - Charlie Brown is a nice change of pace. Exactly. One thing I was disappointed in last night though was the second 1/2 hour. It did a decent job of maintaining the spirit, but I really hated the 'quick-cut' storyboarding. It was rather jarring after the pacing of the original. It appears as if it was done in 2002 or so, after Schulz passed.

Non-Gaming / Off-Topic / Movie Quote Game - Round 2
|

I think I messed the first quote up a bit, I think he says "I'm either in love with your daughter or I've found a new found respect for life".
But the timing with Ackryod saying the same thing 2 seconds later cracks me up every time.
There are so many great quotes in that movie. Can't remember it but when he is talking to his therapist and says something like "why don't you want to treat me, I know where you live." is just LOL funny!
OH! And the conversation with the dad:
"What do you do?" "Professional killer" "Ah - it’s a growth industry"
That Sponteneity one is tickling the back of my mind ... gimme a few. I'll add another hint: "Make love in a hammock!"

Non-Gaming / Off-Topic / "The Matrix" was a rip-off? WTF?
|

FYI I did a little hunting and the Salt Lake paper that printed that story also has a retraction where they say: "In reference to the recent article entitled "Mother of the Matrix Victorious," some information has been deemed misleading. Ms. Sophia Stewart has not yet won her case against Joel Silver, Time Warner and the Wachowski Bros. The decision on October 4th enabled Ms. Stewart to proceed with her case, as all attempts to have it dismissed were unsuccessful. Ms. Stewart's case will proceed through the Central District Court of California. " http://www.slccglobelink.com/news/2004/11/16/News/Corrections-805777.shtml

Non-Gaming / Off-Topic / Brin's Earth a reality?
|
on: December 03, 2004, 07:17:23 PM
|
For the record, Earth, by Brin, is one of my favorite science fiction novels out there. Amen - currently he is still putting too much paradigm-shift endings into his novels, but for Earth it was appropriate and fun. There is a lot to be gleaned about directions our future society might take in this book, as well as good read. If you'll recall though, there were some major upheavals getting to the book's time period, the root causes of which are still present in current day society...

Grosse Pointe Blank - John Cusack ...
-Crusis \ I had googled it because I couldn't remember (and it was really bugging me - I could hear Ackroyd's voice but couldn't place it), but I didn't feel right answering - got another? I'll throw out one in a similar vein: "Sponteneity has it's time and place!"

(edit for correctness). Hint (another line from same movie): "Language Lessons. Inspired words from a man who knows how to ski."

If you can find them, here are some alternate fantasy novels that are fun:
The Shattered World - Michael Reaves Very fun book about a shapeshifting thief in an intriguing world setting
Dream Park - Larry Niven Futuristic Theme Park running D&D games in real life.
The List of 7 - Mark Frost Sir Arthur Conan Doyle in a Political-Mystical intrigue.
Eragon - Christopher Paolini Fun book with Epic ramifications about a kid finding a dragon's egg.
A Wizard of Earthsea - Ursula K. Leguin First book in a trilogy about a young wizard and the danger of pride.

Sorry, but as much as I'd like to see it, 'SC wont lose to my Bruins.
Orange: USC Oklahoma Rose: Cal Wisconsin Sugar: Georgia WVA Fiesta: ??? vs ACC champ
??? = Utah, Michigan, Texas, Auburn
this is assuming Georgia beats Auburn this week coming up and then wins the SEC, otherwise swap Auburn in for Georgia
