It's Bungie. I'm surprised the game is as finished as it is. (Remember the Halo 2 -mid development not even started fiasco?)

I'm not loving it. It's alright, but I can't see caring about this game like I did with Borderlands / BL2.

If you hurry you can still get Monaco for 360. Some regions already have Halo Reach available.

Super Time Force and Crimson Dragon are the games on for Xbox One this month (STF is all kinds of awesome)

I will state right now, that I do not love Destiny. I think CAD hit the nail on the head - for an MMO, there is sadly no loot incentive. I also think the scap option doesn't pay out well enough, and I think they probably focussed on balancing too much and ended up shaving off the "fun".

It feels soulless and while I will get a character to 20, I am not in love. I'm not even sure I'm in like.

I went from Day One no doubt purchase to not touching this game with a ten foot pole based on the beta gameplay alone. When you couple that with how desperately Bungie seemed to be trying to deflect criticism before the game was even released, I don't find it surprising that the scores are middling.

Say what you will about Polygon, but the Giant Bomb guys are usually pretty reliable. And all except for one was really "meh" on the game when they discussed it in their podcast before the review.

I have no doubt the game will probably get better as they add DLC and whatnot. The question is whether or not anybody will still be playing. The next six to nine months are going to be utterly packed with big budget titles.

The GB guys are idiosyncratic.  Jeff has really weird taste in FPS games, Syndicate was exceptionally middling and he LOVED it.  They were all also super late to the D.Souls party.

MP on Syndicate was phenomenal, but since challenge didn't scale to number of members, it was very, very hard with just two.

The MP side should have been the full game. Running missions to take over the world. You know, just like the first one. Tongue

Thrustmaster TX Ferrari wheel is just over a hundred. Paddle-shifting, no clutch or gearbox. Also, I understand there is no force feedback and doesn't work with every racing game. It does work with Forza Motorsport 5 though, so I'd expect the same for Horizon 2.

They're not "a joke," but like all manufacturers, they are misleading. Computer markers define a gigabyte as 1,000,000,000 bytes. A computer defines a gigabyte as 1,073,741,824 bytes, thus the difference. On the Mac, Apple has switched the OS to using the marketing definition. I wonder why they haven't done that on iOS.
Computer makers (I assume that's what you mean) don't define a Gigabyte incorrectly - if there is hardware variance, it has more to do with block size and data use, as well as underlying OS requirements.

The marketing info shows the maximum capacity of the device storage rather than the maximum available space. Some examples include the Surface Pro 128(GB) which only offered ~90GB as 30 was reserved for the OS. The 20GB Xbox 360 had 11GB of space available for storage.

At least they're all doing the same thing, so even if it's wrong, it's predictable.

I never left. I was waiting for there to be something worth saying.

I am constantly disappointed that gaming has devolved to a VHS/Betamax argument.

I own one, not the other (and at this point I have more important things to spend money on). I have very little gaming time, and have taken a break from writing as I simply can't commit the time. My time to game likely won't change a ton though a cold autumn might persuade me to play a little more.

I intend to distill anything I have to say into, short, concise blurbs. We'll see how that goes. Tongue

If you want to compare apples to oranges, good for you. BC has meant the ability to play your old games on your new system. PS3Phat60GB did it, older PS3 emulated it, and 360 did too (select titles).

Wii *was* BC to GC.

Stuff you rebuy is a rerelease. It isn't compatibility, its programmed on the new platform. So opinion on that is pretty open/closed on that - BC is new being set up to use old, not reselling old on new.

I fail to see how Sony set things back when they offer a digital version day one with the disk release for pretty much every game on PS4.

Those game licenses are non-transferrable. Basically, Sony failed to innovate, and when their competition tried, they managed to score a fatal hit rather than letting MS stumble on their own.

Remember Sony's online strategy with the PS2? XBL was needed for them to step up. Then PSN+ came out with better discounts and the competitive nature flip flopped.

Their innovation seems to be with PS Now.  To answer one of your questions from a previous post, yes your save games (which are all automatically saved in the cloud) will work.  It's kind of the whole point.

Additionally, if the subscription service works the way it seems like it will, it is absolutely BC.  BC is being able to play the old games on the new system.  That's what PS Now is delivering.  You're just paying for the privilege.  As someone who finds BC important, but knowing that others couldn't care less, I'm okay with that.

So how do I get my Neir BD to transfer to play on a remote Bravia TV via PSNow? :?

BC means backwards compatibility, FWIW - not access to re-buy what I already have. The only way I could see that working is if I had to have the game in my PS3, hooked up to PSNow, which then allowed me to run the game off their own cloud version by verifying ownership over the Internet.

I consider "No Free to Play (F2P) elements" a bullet point in the pro's column. Hell, that's a selling feature in and of itself and should be plastered on the front of the box.

"All required parts contained within" would be an alternative slogan. Tongue

I think what Purge is trying to say is that even if Sony has been a proponent for digital distribution, they certainly didn't trumpet that when MS was facing a backlash over online DRM.

That's called being a smart business. Also they don't need to trumpet it. Their actions in what they offer with digital speak for themsleves. MS screwing up their own PR is their own fault. Sony had no obligation to bail them out.

Nobody said they Sony had to - even I pointed out how it was a good strategy for THEM, as in Sony. For progress in gaming? Notsomuch - they set back disk-less console gaming licenses being more than just buy it and be stuck with it. There is nothing to be done about it now - MS will likely swing their product in that direction via open-market means (eg: hey buy Halo 5 online, and you could trade it in / share it vs buying in-store). If they're smart, they'll make it slightly cheaper. Or they may just nurse their DRM backlash wounds and not push further.

Right now Sony's talking about giving access to their selected library of older games, using a DS3 to play on multiple devices.  Cool for me, cuz I didn't own them already, but I have none of the devices (well, limited PS3 access). For someone who has an extensive library of games? This does not replace BC. Is there any word about using PSN to sync up your existing savegames at least? What about DLC content? Obviously GOTY versions would have it included.

I still have a few leftover PS3 games, and a bunch of 360 games which are simply collecting dust and aren't worth trading in. One thing I was thinking of the other day, was I'd love to be able to mail my disk versions of games to console MFGR's in exchange for an online license (esp. for games that I want to keep).
No more disk spin-up, no noise, no senseless limitation based on physical property.

Now if that license was also transferable/sellable? That would be the cat's ass.
