MS is doing themselves no service by making it a mystery right now.
I totally agree. I suspect they're enjoying the fact that they are some of the biggest news right now, and will alleviate concerns with the disclosure. They couldn't say ANYTHING right now without people jumping all over them. I'm now looking at my 360 and realizing it's going to be around for a while; at least until I can finish up my backlogs, and even then I'll likely have it so my son can continue to play Minecraft on it.

I disconnect mine because my Kinect thinks I'm talking to it all the time. Seriously, it's the most nosy device in my home. Talking to my wife while playing turns into fits of frustration with the Kinect. Stop calling her Xbox... duh! Mine sometimes reads movements that aren't happening - the fidelity of the old Kinect would certainly concern me, though seeing the smooth movements onstage makes me hope that isn't just smoke and mirrors with someone using a controller and some well-rehearsed actions.

Move is built-in to the PS4, the Wii Waggle Controls are in the Wii and WiiU. Kinect hardware is required, and has it's own hardware inside the console (per the leaked h/w architecture). The paranoid should be wary - but don't think your PS4 isn't watching either.
From a "TV is HARD" perspective - I'd love to never, ever have to change my receiver and TV inputs again. Also, steady sound would be nice. My DVR doesn't do that well. I'm OK with running it through the XO. I like the idea of being able to plonk myself into a game lobby and wait for ideal situation (eg: waiting for a friend who had to run to the store, etc) and be able to watch TV or media that I have available without having to bounce between inputs and miss out.
As to the name Xbox One isn't any dumber than its contemporaries. Wii, New iPad, WiiU, Playstation 4 (good to see they can count - apparently their console is evolutionary rather than revolutionary). It's a name, it's going to be there, and the console is clearly aimed at being a One stop media center. You know, all-in-one? It's not good, it's not bad. It simply is.
Rather than trashing the presentation, which was clearly aimed at showing what new elements they're bringing to the platform rather than pandering to gamers interests in new IP, they've pushed it off 19 days to (one of) the biggest gaming expos.
If that boosts Sony stock for a couple of weeks, I'm sure that isn't going to sink MS. Right now we've got some info, and the details aren't all laid out for us.
From a license perspective, it seems that:
a) games can be played while installing (same as PS4) b) the license for the install is tied to your login (Steam does this, Origin does this, PSN and XBLA already do this). c) if you install it on someone else's console (key being the info specifies "someone else") there is a fee to pay.
They maintain that they have a used game sales strategy - we don't know what that is yet. Given they have established chains of distribution, it wouldn't surprise me that when a game is traded in, that authorized places can revoke the license of the game and have a new key provided to the retailer to sell so the person buying it doesn't see this "fee" when they try to install it.
Remember, you've not bought a game in quite some time - decades, in fact. You have a license agreement with the maker of the software, and if you are compensated for the sale of the product, you have no further rights to use it.
But hey, this is the Internet. Froth on.

the live media on the 360 is no use to me,they never have subtitles i would rather just switch HDMi ports and watch my SKY+ box and have my subtitles..I am guessing this is the same for Xbox One(<<do i have to keep calling it that?)
Looking at the back of the console, there is at least two HDMI ports. It may be that you can still use your sky box as a video feed into your console, and your TV never has to change inputs. edit: The whole channel listing stuff, that's probably going to require the addn'l hardware/supported cable box / DVR device.

The question about the fee is, what if you install it with YOUR account on the other console? If I lend the game to a friend who doesn't have my account, they're basically collecting a rental fee.
If I have two consoles, or the game I'm going to play at my friends' house will work there as long as I'm signed in, that ain't a deal-breaker. I'm sure that if Sony HASN'T got something in place similar to this, with MS doing it, they'll do the same.

Minecraft, God of War, Gran Turismo, Viva Pinata, Rage, WarioWare, Castlevania, Starfox, Unreal Tournament, Mario Carto, Final Fantasy, LA Noire. Earthworm Jim, Guitar Hero, Yoshi's Island, Tetris, Street Fighter, Far Cry, Doom, Half Life, Fallout, Mass Effect, Ghost Trick, Rock Band Sonic, Left 4 Dead, Pikmin, Grand theft Auto, Diablo, looks a little like Angry Birds but I'm not 100%, Garry's Mod, Crysis, Pokemon, Portal, Rayman Origins, Mortal Kombat PacMan, Halo, Lemmings, Zelda, Metal Gear Solid, OutRun, Gears of War, Mega Man, Contra, Monkey Island, Fable, Donkey Kong Country Prince of Persia, Super Smash Bros, Uncharted, Space Invaders, Plants Vs. Zombies, Quake, Kirby, Starcraft, Resident Evil 4, Professor Layton, Sims and Deus Ex
Edit - I think it *IS* Angry Birds, though they've now changed their font to a scribbled letter from the "wide paint-brush" style.

As disgusting as that is, my eyes are just drawn to "peice".
That, and the schizophrenic capitalization. I don't think that word means what you think it means - and if you're just using it to replace the generally regarded to be offensive "retarded", you may as well just stick with retarded - singling out a mental disorder and using it to describe a situation where lack of thought, attention to detail and/or ability to spell is really no higher ground. I'm not riding high on any horse here either - I've been known to use terms that are otherwise insensitive. Just pointing it out, is all. Conversely, the picture may be implying this is the type of Ice the reader has swallowed: What? ETA Okay, I retread it after taking a nap and I see what you're saying, but the second definition of "schizophrenic" refers to a concept or sentence made up of disparate or contradictory elements. He may have slightly misused the word, but there's nothing really offensive about it. Fifteen years ago, that same common use was attached to "retarded". I saw that "2." as well - I checked to make sure. FWIW, my younger cousin (who is now 27) was (mis)diagnosed with childhood schizophrenia and for the longest time that's what my Aunt would rail against with any-and-everyone. Seeing that posted just hit a knee-jerk reaction in me. It's too bad, really. I expected CeeKay to pop in with some topical equivalent to the animated "That's Racist!" image.

Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Official E3 2013 "What we want to see" thread.
|
on: May 16, 2013, 03:42:21 PM

Morning all ... We all have certain games we're interested in seeing in just under a month. We have a fair complement of staff going, and so that we can get as much from E3 as possible, we're asking you what you'd like to see from the big show. If there are specific games that have already been announced that you'd like to see coverage on, or hardware for us to be on the lookout for, please post them in this thread in bold. The more info the better - if you know the publisher, developer and platforms, please include them in bolded info. eg: Game : Watch Dogs Publ. : Ubisoft Dev. : Ubisoft Montreal http://watchdogs.ubi.com/watchdogs/en-us/home/index.aspx
Have at 'er.

Frankly, I'd rather it do what the MS store, Apple Store, etc does - it checks across all your installed software, and lets you blanket-update your applications/games/OS. I don't like waiting when I've finally got a moment to sit and play. I also hate the PS3 update times. Dear god man. That was like kicking me in the gaming jimmies everytime I sat down to play a game (given that my use of the gaming functionality was infrequent, I invariably had some outstanding OS update that needed to work to use PSN, and was probably stripping off yet another feature of the console).

Updates on all consoles require approval by the user.
Doesn't mean it won't download the update so it's ready to install when you approve, but, frankly, the download is only part of the hurdle.
There's no way any of these consoles will _should_ update your system automatically.

Look how that turned out for them. Nothing like what they showed (as in the scripted stuff) and still a year later.
Yeah, Valve is really hurting. Most E3 titles are 5-17 months out from the Expo. I find that titles due to launch in 2 months are overlooked over the ones that are "down the road".

You don't have to tell anyone anything ... can you drop a screenshot of what's happened? The outlook.com site is just a different, cleaner interface. I found it loads way faster than hotmail.com ever did. I still have @live.ca and my old @hotmail.com variant, and although I had the "option" to upgrade it, it never forced me to change domains.
I now also have a named email address on the same account with the outlook.com domain (for stuff that has no connection to my online presence, such as for my kids' school mailing list, his soccer coach uses it, etc).

10 years ago, they said the same thing.

Sorry if this has been mentioned somewhere in the 13 pages but have they said anything about getting rid of the 'install' step for downloaded games?
Yes, they have. Games won't have installs. In fact, you can start playing games even while they download. For this to work optimally the developer has to prepare the game for it, but in theory it should work for all games. It's just that some of them may require a larger part of the download to be finished than others before you can play. With the streaming services in place you won't even have to start the download after purchasing your game, or you could play it right away, save to the cloud, and continue on your local version once it's done downloading. Yes, they've really thought this through. This is one aspect where I suspect the new Xbox won't be able to compete. XBL games have never required the install step - if you're referring to play-as-you-download, who knows. I'm OK with XBLA titles having to download, but full system games? Regardless of platform, I'll still be picking up disks so I can trade them in.

As to the topic at hand, I think the reality of the situation is that there is always a kernel of truth in press stories, and having witnessed first-and-second hand versions of press publications AFTER the fact and knowing full well the events - even when they have named sources, the news is already skewed.

So you're equating a sole proprietor taking ownership (and responsibility) of articles hosted on _his_ site as a sign of negligible behavior? Did you have a contract that indicated you owned the work you produced for the site? The tone of your message conveys a chip on shoulder - and from the looks of things, the articles say Jack Moliere, so as soon as you (publicly) aired your concerns, they were able to fix it. Did you take any other measures first, or was this seeming attempt to call into question Ron's ethics the first time you've spoken up? Last I checked, a fair number of my old reviews have given games 324234523 / 100, and the pros/cons were borked. The problems have been discussed by the management / tech staff in the site feedback section. Who knows, perhaps all imported articles also indicate Ron, or at least those who's original "owners" do not exist in the latest iteration of the DB. My point is, is it ethical to slam someone who brings up ethics based on a personal concern in a very public manner without providing them: a) information about your opined discrepancy b) an opportunity to explain how or why this happened c) the knowledge that the lack of credit is something that bothers you. d) the wherewithal to make corrections or apologies. It would seem to me that would have been valuable in resolving this issue a lot quicker. Maybe you've been hounding Ron for months about your articles - and this was your last resort. Given the fix turnaround and knowing Ron to be a pretty up-standing guy, I doubt this is the case. Your approach certainly has brought up some interesting ethical points WRT publication ownership, but I don't know that it speaks at ALL to the explicit topic brought up in the OP.
