16761  Non-Gaming / Trading Forum / Wanted : GC "Must-Have" Titles [UPDATED 9/23/05] on: September 20, 2005, 06:25:02 AM
I just got a GC this year (used for $20CAD, with 2x wavebird, HDTV cable, and GBA adapter and disc) and I'm looking for decently priced GC must-haves that people may be tired of (Animal Crossing, SMB, Smash Bros, Mario Kart, Super Mario Sunshine, etc).

I've got Zelda:WW and the bonus disk with all the other zeldas on it. I've now got Metriod Prime and F-Zero GX on their way from Warning.

Can you help me find a point to my awesome purchase? biggrin

- I now have :
Animal Crossing (in mail from Bob)
ZeroG FX (or something like that)
Zelda WW + all the legacy zeldas except 3.
   Metriod Prime
Eternal Darkness (maybe, Zarkon's looking to trade it, or other games)

uhm, yeah.

Robert Stack is the voice of Ultra Magnus, and died in 2003.

Hetz is getting a free Xbox360; not to be confused with hertz, which doesn't feel too good (being Thor hertz, and may be the cause of the pane).

LCDs use electrical charges to alter the opacity of the liquid, allowing color spectrums to pass through and thus coloring the light. There is no flicker to it. CRTs bounce electrons inside the tube onto the surface of your screen. I dunno about you, but that hertz my eyes.

16769  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / EB (Canada) + Trade-in Business model [UPDATED.. it's ON!] on: September 19, 2005, 12:35:10 PM
I dunno man, EB's best result for trading in is ~ $38. You'd have to be trading in 4 games to get the 40%, and not all new games end up with that value. (depends on stock, game popularity, etc).

In Canada there is no Gamestop; they've decided to just leave it as Electronics Boutique.
16770  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / EB (Canada) + Trade-in Business model [UPDATED.. it's ON!] on: September 18, 2005, 07:25:24 PM
As I understand it, all new games sold will have this sticker. I dunno. It may just be a reciept thing, or the sticker may be on the inside of the case. As soon as it's on, I'll let you know. slywink

Also, a lot of those services (like gamerang / gamefly) are US only.

It pertains to new releases only. It probably has a 1 month from release date  requirement (so you're looking at new games only).

[shrug] I'm soo in!!
16772  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / EB (Canada) + Trade-in Business model [UPDATED.. it's ON!] on: September 18, 2005, 12:42:19 AM
EB Games is piloting a new trade-in policy in Winnipeg, MB and one city in Quebec (dunno which one).

The new trade-in policy is this: on a new release game, you can trade it back to EB within a month of purchase for $10(CAD, or ~$8 US) less the purchase price (trade value towards another game).

eg: you buy Ultimate Spiderman for 59.99 on Oct 1.
--- Before Nov 1, you take it back for a 49.99 instore credit.
--- you go buy Tony Hawks American Wasteland (SE) for 69.99
--- before Dec. 1 you take it back for 59.99 instore credit.
--- you buy X360 Oblivion for 69.99, and end up keeping it.
--- start over. (or have more than one game in the cycle.

This means you can basically rent new release games for 10 for one month. Not a day later, and no wierdo combos with other promo's (except I think the whole trade 3, get 1 free will still work on a PURCHASE of the initial game). If you love the game, just keep it. They stipulate that the game HAS TO BE purchased from EB Games, you need the sales reciept, and the game case will have a sticker on the back of it.

I got this info from my buddy who runs one of the EB Games in Winnipeg, and it will be starting in the next couple of weeks (this was rolled out in their big meeting that they all fly out for). It's a pilot, and they're trying to prove/disprove the model as they want all new-title purchases through them, and that their used titles are all newer games.

I can't wait!! Gonna buy me 3 games, and then just cycle through them. If I get one I want to keep for more than a month (rare) I'll buy another game.  This also means I don't have to deal with shipping times or worrying about not being able to get a new release game from "gamefly-like" services.

Can I get an amen? That's right. Booyah!

Have you ever driven somewhere and you were engaged in a conversation?
A real conversation would include "hold on a sec", and "You EFFEN TWIT! Learn how to drive, you asshole!!"

That doesn't happen. No one actually reacts to the road.

That is a phenomenal statement considering that even the most die hard of Nintendo fans would admit that in the last several years there have only been a handful of GCN exclusives that were good. When they were good, they were fantastic-but "all about the games"? Please, lets see the games first.

I was speaking to their corporate direction, not necessarily their market success with the Gamecube specifically.

Also keep in mind, this is coming from me, a big Xbox gamer... "N" is all about the games. I didn't say they've excelled with the GC; you don't see them releasing anything but offline games though. The GBA and DS show that they are very much alive and profitable in their specialized field.

That's the point of turning it off.  You can boot the Xbox without the modchip engaged, so there's nothing to detect.

Other hardware mods, like hard disk replacement or space / allocation on the hard disk can reveal it just as well as detecting the mod chip itself.

They nuked 10,000 live accounts when Halo2 was released.

A lot of them were for hard drive size modification.

Well Charlie Brown, have you ever watched european television? They tend to do things a little differently :

1) they don't avoid nudity where appropriate.
2) when the series is over they end it.

And as far as WORN OUT, no one else has mentioned this point in this thread. If I'm to understand the point of this topic, it's to share, not drop one-line complaints about other people's posted gripe. You obviously have an opinion on the topic; I'm guessing it rests in the puritan camp.

That's what people said about the DS.

I'm thinking they've planted seeds that still have a year + to grow in the developers fertile minds for gaming.

I expect Nintendo will chip away at Sony, and MS will chip away at Sony. Nintendo and MS have different markets and I suspect they will (overall) grow through the lull that Sony has created.

I see this thing as Nintendo embracing the label "second console".   They WANT to be people's 2nd gaming console.

No, they want it to be peoples FIRST console. They care about games. They don't care about movies, music or pics. GAMES. The other systems are bringing "value added" to the table, whereas nintendo is saying "We *are* the games. Period."

Seeing the big phone companies branch out in the early to mid-ninties, and then have to cut the deadweight and re-focus on their "core business" I see Nintendo as avoiding that trap.

They know gaming. They don't know movies. They don't do music (other than in-game). They want to provide the best that they can and to be profitable and successful. They don't have to have the highest sales to be the "FIRST" console, as the other two are no longer consoles; they're multimedia hubs for the livingroom.

I applaud Nintendo for giving us something more revolutionary than modified Dual Shock controllers (as if the Scontroller is much different, minus the lovely full analog triggers). I hope this works; we need something new.

I hate the fact that nudity is completely taboo, however excessive violence is considered ok for kids, well, maybe for 14year olds. A nipple?? DEAR GOD WHY?! Only 18+ can enjoy that, and then they're perverts and dregs.

I'm not talking porn here, I'm talking about using tasteful expression to convey whatever flavor they're trying to bring across. I mean, just because you like to season your eggs doesn't mean you're saddling up to a salt-lick.

The other pet peeve I have is the "suspend disbelief on X premise" and then they go and fuck with Y and Z for no apparent reason.

Deep Blue Sea, for instance. I mean, COME ON! Michael Bay isn't that bad in comparison.

As to lamest moment ever? I'd have to say the Syndicate end scene ranked right up there. The ending to Ultima 9 was also an effen eyesore.
