The MGS4 demo, though, totally looked accomplishable (is that a word?, imo.  And there's a 9-minute video out there where a few members of the team play around with the demo, all in real-time.  Changing the angles...that all but makes me believe we'll be seeing a game that looks just like the trailer we saw when it hits.  Whenever that'll be.

So we get 15 minutes of gameplay and 9 hours of cut scenes this time out, right?

Found their new tagline :

A game the whole family can watch.

I felt that way in high school and through my first year of college...

Not sure exactly what changed --  [...] All I would say is an echo -- if what you are doing isn't working for you, try something different.  Things absolutely can improve, but they won't necessarily without some sort of change.

I know what changed... you found the intarweb, and pr0n, right? Right? <nudge, nudge> slywink

I get into funked out moods. As the bible states: This too shall pass. Not that I'm biblical or even remotely religious, but given that the book has been around for over a thousand years and is still widely revered, I'd have to say that it's safe to take it's advice. It has not yet passed, even if the accuracy in details and contexts of it's many stories have.

I found that trying something completely different changed my mood. It wakes up the brain to do something you don't normally do. Cycle to school, take up an art class even though you can't draw, etc.

Smile even though you don't feel like smiling. It worked for me.

Hitting the X360 logo to get the mini-dash (half-screen on the left)is where you can find stuff that you can't find anywhere else...
  • if you select your gamertag you can actually go onto live and CHANGE it.I'm lookin' at YOU, Knightshade... slywink get your ULTIMA-te tag back you deserter... Tongue
  • This half-screen comes up even when you're on the FULL dashboard. Use it to your advantage.
  • You can also start your custom music from that panel, and it will replace any music ingame as well.
  • Note that the volume of the music is also controlled from there.
  • You can invite online gamers into private chat while still enjoying single OR multiplayer games and still be able to chat in multiplayer.

The chat channels in the Live mini-dash are awesome. Use em, it makes the games you play so much more fun. Lockdown and I wasted an afternoon together just shootin' the shit. Too bad you can't have more than 1 friend per channel.
  • The live Mini-dash gives you 4 private (1 on 1) chat channels PLUS the games own multiplayer channel. (so you can bounce between in-game chat and your own live private chats)
  • You could invite someone you're playing with (in the multiplayer game)into a secure channel to discuss strategy, or just shoot the shit without having to air your dirty laundry.
  • Or you could chat with mytocles whilst she plays Zuma's revenge and you are downloading demos. Whatever.
  • When people switch to and from your established private channels, it lets you know. It also lets them know when you're AFC(away from channel). I made that up. You like? I *knew* you would. biggrin
  • Whenever a Live indicator is up (such as "Devil is paging you" or "Purge Joined your Private Chat", if you hit the X360 logo button while the indicator is up it will take you back to that channel.
  • You can hit it afterwards (if you were too slow) to get into the mini-dash and bounce over there manually.
  • from the mini-dash you can see the state of all your channels and who is in them.

Some tips for the wireless controller folks.
  • If you need to synch a controller, there is a tiny white button near the play-n-charge connector on the top. Hit that and the controller will try to re-synch to the xbox360.
  • I'm hoping you all have noticed the quadrant style light; it corresponds to screens you pull up. So you know which of your 3 jerk friends keeps holding up the damned game so they can change the music.
  • In case you hadn't noticed, if you hold down the X360 logo on your controller, you can either turn off the console, or just turn your controller off.
  • If you need to charge your controller but don't want your system on (using the plug and play kit), press the power button once (gently) on the console while it is on.
  • If the controller needs a charge and is connected with the kit at the time, the system will power off but the controller will still charge (you can tell with the light on the cable kit).
  • Do NOT show your girlfriend the wireless controller with the vibration. 'nuff said. (or do, you dirty, dirty person, you... )

One other thing... If you have an HDTV, be sure to throw the switch on the cable that connects to the xbox360 from TV to HDTV. slywink See? Now it doesn't look like ass.  biggrin

I don't think a Bethesda game has the kind of clout that MS would need to push units anyway.  Such a thing might work on, say, Halo, but I hardly think anyone is buying a 360 just to get their paws on Oblivion.

Uh, it was a motivator for me too.

I'd imagine you guys knew that well before you decided to share it with the rest of the world.

I don't mind that games are delayed but I do mind when massive delays happen at the last minute.

What difference does it make?

If a game is delayed due to marketing, or closed-door exclusivity deals you can have delays NOT related to the fact that it's not done.

Cripes... this thread should be abolished. I feel like a charletan.

I originally bought it for a local friend of mine; but since he's got a 6week old he figured he couldn't really use it until end of january anyways (which I think is a hopeful statement; having a son I know it took longer than that for me). He told me to make my christmas merry and to make money on it by ebaying it. I talked to MSDuncan, as he was my "First" request for one and he absolved me of any bad feelings about ebaying it.
So I did ebay the damned thing, and some UK buyer was buying it to replentish stock, so I closed out.  The UK woman wanted to buy it, and complained about shipping and was acting funny (wanted shipping to new york, and then florida, and then some UK address) and it didn't sell for all that much more either and I said "screw it, I know people who want it more. "

MSDuncan had already gotten one, and when I originally started this thread I talked with AA, so he was next on the list.

I christmas-wrapped it in hopes that it would get there before christmas. It technically DID get there, but it arrived on the 24th and no one was at the place of work to sign for it (I should have sent it to AA's house; he would have had it under the tree).

I appreciate everyone's kind words, and I love all of you for it. smile I'm no saint though; I'm just glad I could bring a real smile to the face of a digital friend. smile

and yeah, I'm blushing at all the kind words.

It's peoples money. Money is not an item; it's a potential value. Hetz was lucky, Stimpy had opportunity and msduncan has had little of either.

Sad thing is, greed is a motivator.

I have just picked up a second Xbox360 premium today, and I'm trying to decide on whether to sell it to a CG'er (this one was picked up for a local friend who then refused it) or if I should ebay it and try to recoup some financial loss for my original 360.

It's a tough decision, one I've not fully decided on yet. frown I didn't think I could be greedy, but clearly the dark side is calling me.

Without PS2, Sony would be struggling.
Let's take that one step further... Without water we'd be dead. I didn't realize we were playing the "what-if" game.

Look, Scott, I stated my take on the PSP as clearly it's something you want to talk about (3 pages of PSP vs DS vs Revo). *AS I SEE IT*, it's almost as expensive as a full console, and comes with very few titles that interest me, and it's poorly implemented "multimedia" has been bad enough where people are downgrading their bioses (AIUI) so they can actually use the product with non-licensed software. Kinda like saying the Xbox kicks ass cuz of the pirated media center.  The plusses are unrelated to the product released to the manufacturers specification. I could say the PSP is a terrific device: it took the wobble out of my dining room table with the one short leg.

The only relevance to the Revo is my concern for their own gaming library, I don't see the PSP as being a better "gaming system" than the DS ... both play games; one has more potential than the other for truly innovative experiences. The other is a more powerful version of a gameboy. Kudos to Sony for bringing dumbed down PS2 games to the handheld market. When they step it up and make me want it with better games, I'll be there in line. I've got a truckload of electronics and no willpower to speak of. For now though, it's a pretty shallow creek.

I'm also not a DS fan. I've just played my first game on the DS that I bought (and will be returning after my LA trip), and I'd have to say that it impresses me, but not enough to want to keep it. The buttons are too small, and the whole thing feels like it's got a low production value.

You've obviously got an agenda, or have never really sampled both sides. Gross generalizations are not a way to carry on a healthy discussion. You can blow up, calm down, or whatever. I'll wait for the next revo thread to actually, you know, TALK ABOUT THE CONSOLE in question.

/walks away.

This post is on-track, so please don't let it interrupt the DS vs PSP war going on. slywink

The revolution, as I see it, is going to make the gaming community bigger, and bring diversity into the marketplace. Sure, petting your doggie ain't a FPS that everyone wants, but alternate and marketable products only helps support innovation.

The only thing that a lower hardware standard means for REVO is that
A) We won't be getting lack-luster ports of games on 3 systems, only 2.
B) Nintendo will NEED to be producing more for their shelves as their library won't be artificially filled with games that were "token" like the cube.
C) They may well be facing a competition with the PS2 / Xbox market and stomping them out. My thinking is this : If I can buy a new car which isn't a porsche but ain't no slouch for the same price as the used minivan, why wouldn't I?

Their angle has changed, and honestly, it is the only feasible one. Sony has other major industries which affect their bottom line but they have buying power, and MS has deep pockets and market commitment stated where they intend to "Take on the world" as Purple Tentacle* put it.

* Day of the Tentacle reference just for you, Ron. slywink

It is hard to impossible to compare the review scores of the PSP vs the DS.  PSP games are judged against PS2 and XBox games, because of the type of game moved to the PSP, and how powerful the PSP is.

DS games are judged against Nintendo 64 and GBA games, because the DS isn't nearly as powerful.

If you judged DS games against PS2 games, the DS scores would be significantly lower.   If you judged PSP games vs the N64, PSP games would be much higher.

Erm, that doesn't make sense. Compare a portable system that costs 50% less than the PSP to a full console... right.

Here's my take on the PSP (since it somehow keeps being brought up in a REVOLUTION thread) : It is an expensive toy that doesn't do any one thing well enough to stand on it's own.

Gaming : The controls are weak based on the thumbpad, the shoulder buttons and the superlong load times.

Music : not enough storage unless you fork over for a large memory card, giving you as much storage as a cheap USB mp3 player that fits in a standard sized pocket. Oh, and look forward to having to re-encode your music so the PSP likes it.

Movies : storage is once again a problem for copying them over. The second issue is UMDs... I mean really. The PS3 isn't supporting them, so you have 1 market... PSP only. If you get tired of Spiderman 2, good luck getting your money's worth. They should be selling the UMD *with* the DVDs to break into the market.

Portability : if you don't mind carrying a lead shield around it, and have a team of 3rd world "employees without wages" willing to buff the screen everytime you pick it up as you've invariably smudged it, you're set.

Games : I haven't looked recently, but the games were dumbed-down ports. This means I've played a better version of it earlier, if I were at all interested in it.

Screen resolution : Kudos to the widescreen and a big WTF for the responsiveness. I mean, 19 LCD monitors have better responsiveness; you'd think a smaller screen with lower rez could look smoother.

my 2 cents.

2) platform / action game
3) quirky / fun game

I disagree with the "run a game at the same time" as the programmers tweaked their games to play with hardware specs; not crippled by downloading. I think maybe arcade games would be alright, but I wouldn't want to play a full fledged game while downloading.

I *do* know you can still hold a conversation with someone while downloading (LD and I did that while we were both downloading).
