I hate the mic gain bug. (where the gain is "on" but acts as off until you go into the panel and check. then go back and it works).

Creative is EA of the sound hardware industry. they buy good companies, repackage their product with poor / no support and then sit on a HUGE mountain of money.

16418  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Yoshihiro Maruyama - "No Xbox 360 Games on HD-DVD" on: November 01, 2005, 07:38:17 PM
One doesn't release a battleship with a "prototype gun" ... it sounds more like a plot device in countless anime movies. Those guns tend to blow out the hull of it's OWN vessel before anyone elses. slywink

There are mfg costs to going to a new product, and for some reason Sony thinks they'll dominate the market with it. There was an article released a few weeks ago about upgrading a DVD assembly line to release Blu-Ray vs. HD-DVD... the cost difference was staggering. (several mil to hundred-thousand). You can bet that's going onto the sticker price.

Joe Blow ain't gonna see the difference, or care. Hell, they STILL sell Full Frame disks. You think the average movie-buying public is going to go and buy the more expensive Blu-Ray for shits'n'giggles? Big wheels turn slow, and the world market is one BIGASS wheel. Hell, you can still get CD/Tape-decks in brand new cars. TAPES!

MS is happy with offering people with a DVD player, Media Center connectivity (so they DO pander to a niche market!) and all things internet. Oh, and games. Right, games too.

I think (personally) that the price will be prohibitive and it'll end up falling flat. Since their console is going head-to-head with big N's release time, they just might find themselves at the back of the bus. I'll buy a revolution over a SPIDERMAN3 err, PS3 any day. Cost and fun factor, plus the 360 will already have the larger library of games so the draw isn't there.

And NO, playing PS2 games on a PS3 ain't a motivator. I don't have enough time in my life NOW to play all the games I have, let alone trying to finish a library of games designed to run on 1998/1999 technology.

As to switching disks ... hrm, as I see it if I need to get up to switch disks, I better have gotten a few hours play out of that disk first. That's a developer design issue, not a storage issue.  I'm not going to blame Jeep if I can't bring home a jungle-gym I bought because it's only sold as a one-piece unit. I mean, really. biggrin

And if this were Mad magazine, then it'd at least be worth picking up.

As I understand it, the staff aren't paid all that well. They're here cuz they LIKE it. This is their long-term effort with a perk or two (reviewing new games once in a while).

If Ron wants to spout shit about other sites / mags, etc... it ain't gonna hurt his "business model" if you take offence to it. I'm sure it wasn't meant as a jab though; he replied to the critique on page one. (which is why I left it alone, myto)

LE, I see your point on the 4/10 thing, you were going with information that was available at the time from a reasonably reliable source.

I think you were a little heavy handed which did a lovely job of bringing up peoples pressure.

Good job, buddy. slywink

I'm hoping the 4/10 review is one nut-job who just didn't care to try and understand the game; judging games on technical merit alone seems wrong, but on the other hand judging artistic value is a crapshoot at best.
