If you are running the demo at a high resolution with filtering on your PC, I just can't see the 360 version looking better.  You were looking at the same game at a lower resolution as a good PC.

1024x768 (786432 pixels) < 1280x720 (921600 pixels) <1280x1024(1310720)

Thing is, FSAA on the 720p. Widescreen, more "usable viewing" area. games are WAY more horizontal than they are vertical.

Quote from: "Scott"
What probably is different, is the monitor.  The Samsung LCD screens that most of the demo units are shipping with it seems, are very good, and very vibrant.  The demo screen I saw was 23 or 26", and appeared to have the color saturation up a bit.  Comparing that to an older monitor, or smaller LCD at home, you probably were impressed more with the TV then game.

The Kameo demo really impressed me when I saw it on the 360 at the mall here, but a lot of it was the fact the TV showed the vibrant colors very well.

I really want that Samsung tv now smile.

And frankly, sitting on a couch looking at a vibrant big-screen TV is much more appealing than peering into a monitor. I have a gorgeous Sony XBR HDTV (widescreen) and a 2405FPW (24" 16:9 HD monitor with component ins). I'll be enjoying it on either, but bang for the buck, a PC costs more than the X360.

I have a 2.8C Intel P4HT, 1gb RAM, 450GB storage (SATA Seagate 250 + 160 + Raptor 34GB ), Audigy 2 and a 9800Pro. I was thinking of upgrading; getting a video card that costs as much as the x360 does NOT appeal, on top of a new mainboard and CPU.
16414  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / How is MS's X-box repair service? on: November 10, 2005, 03:48:19 PM
Hard disks are generally wiped out / replaced.

I can save you some money though.... call them and sign up for extended warranty. (~30 canadian).

Then wait 30 days, and call them indicating your nic is dead. Then the service call, the delivery to and from MS are free (on the ext. warranty).

Call them (18004myxbox) and ask them about the warranty before you go and buy another one. smile

If you need to, you can mail your xbox to me and I can do it for you (in canada).
16415  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / 360 BC for halo and halo 2 and... on: November 10, 2005, 03:39:48 PM
Hetz.... the downloadable patches are for games that are added post-launch. Let's say that Phantom Dust wasn't backwards compatible at the time of launch, and a month down the road it is... you would need to either:

Connect to live to download the BC patch and store it on the hard disk ( the Silver (free) live will still get patches.)

Go to a kiosk to get the patch (there was mention of this about a month or two ago). So NO you don't NEED to have broadband access to get the patches.

Who knows, they may even mail out discs to people or be able to get them from OXM disks. ::shrug::

I'm sure the HDD has all of the BC titles they've already fixed. So in the case of Halo / Halo 2, the patches don't require download. The article only speaks about online to enable the online functionality of Halo2.
16416  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Anyone still have a launch Xbox? on: November 10, 2005, 03:31:40 PM
Ditto. Had drive replaced; MS's extended warranty was worth it for me.

Nice thing is (in Canada) that you can buy warranty on your Xbox any time (even 2 years after you bought it). It takes 30 days to activate (so you can't buy it and put a claim right away) but if you can be patient, your 30 bux covers that repair and the shipping both ways, and you still have another year of warranty after that. biggrin

16418  Non-Gaming / Off-Topic / Speaking of Gone Gold on: November 09, 2005, 07:55:13 PM
I'm in the "Oh-dear-god-let-this-not-be-the-new-'Deliverance'-revival" camp.

GG is gone, and it's last trace, ConsoleGold, has become the new beast that Ron envisioned almost 3 years ago (since GG's PC side was already lapsed; its forums kept that site alive, the idea was that CG would eventually pick up the PC slack). GG had its own pulse, it really didn't address gaming in it's last 18 functional months.

I'm sure it wasn't meant to be this way, but sometimes the change is forced into a revolution, and sometimes we feed it time so that it may evolve naturally.

I, for one, am glad that Ron had the reigns on consolegold, and I'll be a GT'er for a LONG LONG time.

16424  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Xbox 360 - Massive Shortages at Launch on: November 09, 2005, 04:47:05 PM
my EB games isn't doing a midnight release (mall security required, pain in the ass, miserable people).

So I get mine at 6:30am on the 22nd, where I have 2 employees and the entire store to myself (first c20 preorders get 10 min, 2 employees, and breakfast to browse and buy in a relaxed atmosphere).

I'm the first person booked (#6, I guess 6:30am was too early for some).
16425  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / SONY PS3 to LAUNCH IN 2007 on: November 07, 2005, 01:51:34 PM
Metal Hounds, and a slew of new IP (intellectual properties) including Blue Dragon etc... if some of these turn out to be more like KOTOR and less like Brute Force it won't matter if the sequels mentioned above make it.

If there is no holiday PS3 launch (and even if there is) it's not going to be as easy as Sony thinks it will be.

PS2 backwards compatibility isn't going to be a big motivator when people still have their PS2s, a 360 and then face the prospect of a significantly more expensive PS3.

At this point, Sony has left the ball in MS's court. Given that MS has a stronger tie to Japanese developers, more experience in the crap vs awesome games (please no more Metal Dungeon or Kabuki Warriors), I thinks this signifies one thing for Sony: Very. Bad. Move.

After reviewing the materials provided, the Ape Consortium is not willing to endorse this product. Although Kong could easily best dinosaurs, it sickens us that the waif-like Watts could sway the god of the jungle.

Shakira or Jolie, perhaps.
16431  Non-Gaming / Off-Topic / King Kong Official Trailer on: November 04, 2005, 03:05:03 PM
Speaking as a representitive of the Ape community, I'd have to say that this movie seems to avoid the common "ape slander" that has dogged our species. We are *not* Monkeys... we EAT monkeys. We are also not particularly fond of bananas; generally Chicken Parmesan on angel-hair pasta is a stronger motivator. Curry is also a common favorite.

I'm hoping Kong is depicted with the more historically accurate "rebel without a cause" motivation; the "white chick in a white dress stole my heart" was just crap; the Kong the Ape community recognizes would have used her as a Q-Tip.
