Funny, I think a good frame rate would make the game feel alot different than the mood it's aiming for.  The syrupy frame rate and stuff made it seem more dream-like, imo.  Even if it wasn't intended to.

I'd hate it if my old 75 coronet lost it's charm by not stalling either.  nod

What's the point of Media Extender?  Why would I plug into my PC to watch TV through my PC/360 on my TV when I can just watch TV on my TV?

Is there a way to surf the web through Media Extender or is the sole functionality getting music on the 360 and viewing pictures?
As far as I can tell it's so you can stream video , music and pictures to your 360.  You can play your own music oiff your PC in game.  And AFAIK it's only one way to the 360- you can't send stuff to your PC.  There's no web browser on the 360, and honestly I hope they never do release one.  I can just imagine some PS3 fanboy fraktard writing a virus to take down 360's (if that's possible)  icon_wink

Media Extender lets you share photos and music from your PC to your 360. Basically, it means you don't have to waste HDD space on the 360 for ripping music, just stream it from your PC.
If you want video, you need to have Windows XP Media Centre edition, and not all codecs work. Windows Vista (Ultimate edition, and possibly others) will have the same video streaming capabilities.

You can take a pic from your PC library and set it up as your wallpaper for every blade. (only one, can't set different pic AFAIK ... AsFarAsIKnow ATB  :slywink:)

The 360 is turned on remotely by powering on a controller (hit the X logo). It takes a second, you don't need to hold it down.
You CAN turn off a wireless controller OR the console & controller(s) by holding the X logo for 3 seconds at any time when it's on. A menu appears on the right side and you choose from there.
I don't use this option generally; the play-n-charge kit doesn't charge if you turn it off this way. Hit the power button instead (while the controllers are plugged in). You'll note their charge lights stay on. Once they've charged it goes out. The 360 is still considered OFF during this power-off charge time, and no fans are running.

Not that this is even remotely on-topic, but the mandate itself has nothing to do with HDTV.

Check out what your local FCC has to say on the topic.

Note the following :

DTV broadcast technology is more flexible and efficient than today’s more widespread broadcast technology, which is called “analog.”

For example, rather than being limited to providing one analog programming signal, a broadcaster will be able to provide a sharp "high definition" (HDTV) program or multiple "standard definition" digital programs simultaneously. Providing several program streams using the digital spectrum is called "multicasting." The number of programs a station can send using the digital spectrum depends on the level of picture detail, also known as "resolution," desired in each programming stream. DTV can provide picture resolution, interactive video, and data services that easily surpass the capabilities of “analog” technology.

Converting to DTV also will free up parts of the scarce and valuable broadcast spectrum. Those portions of the spectrum can then be used for other important services, such as public and safety services (police and fire departments, emergency rescue), and advanced wireless services.

TV stations serving all markets in the United States are airing digital television programming today, although most will continue to provide analog programming through February 17, 2009. At that point, full-power TV stations will cease broadcasting on their current analog channels, and the spectrum they use for analog broadcasting will be reclaimed and put to other uses.

I'm guessing there are a few very interested companies in these spectrums and have been applying the pressure to their respective government agencies to get the spectrums released.

As to Sony's grasping at straws, I really think this launch is going to make them look WORSE than Microsoft.I'm not sayin' its a good thing; competition makes MS push the envelope.
15404  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: Sony Public Relations = Grasping at Straws on: October 22, 2006, 03:58:05 AM
Here's the condensed version of Kevin's comment: DTV, not HDTV, is the mandate by 2010.

Satellite is already Digital, they want to free up the wavelengths that analog TV signal use as they are very valuable.

They don't care about how crisp the picture is. They want you recieving 1's and 0's instead of wavelengths.

The only reason HDTV is rolled into that is because it gives people "incentive" to get new sets.

had a 60 ipod photo; sold it for 240bux (215US) about 3 weeks ago.
I now have a refurb 60GB ipod video. Haven't decided if I want to keep it or sell it.
I paid almost 290bux (~260USD).

I used my photo a lot, but I'm not really missing it much.

DVD playback was more of an issue last gen IMO.  Given that the Wii isn't designed for bedroom playing, odds are that whatever room the Wii will go in already has a DVD player now that also does a better job.  I don't think DVD support is much of selling point for consoles anymore and it would have bumped up costs because Nintendo would have to play a licensing fee on every Wii sold even if most people didn't use the functionality.  That's why MS didn't let people play DVDs unless you bought the remote on Xbox 1- that way they only paid the fee on each sale of the remote, not the console itself.

Kevin I know its not a selling point, but its something most people have kind of come to expect. I haven't put a DVD in a console in probably 4 years (and that was just to test it), but I still like to have, yup, you guessed it, OPTIONS, something Nintendo isn't giving me at this point, with the Wii. They are so polarizing to me; I love my DS and probably play it more than my PSP at this point, but I didn't care too much for the Gamecube after a year or so, and get less excited about the Wii on a weekly basis.

+2 for Tebunkers STOP THE DERAIL vote.  nod

the 2007WFP has a 6ms reponse time and the following connections :

Digital Visual Interface (DVI) Analog video signal RGB, S-Video, Composite video

So yeah, this would do the job. It's not as "L337" as the 2407, but it's still a damned fine monitor.

Plus, if you decide to get an arm for it (so you don't take up desktop space) then it will actually work. Most of them will work with that (such as the Ergotron series) however the 2407 doesn't. (it's too heavy ... all weight ratings are based on 2inch depth, add 6lbs for each inch over 2).

Looks like you want a Gateway FPD2185W.

You could also get a 2407FPW from Dell (24") or a 2405FPW (which is the older model; it's what I use). I use my Dell for a TV set with an HD PVR cable box, my 360 and a PC monitor (I have the 360 going through a VGA adapter, DVI on the PC and using components on the cable box). I still have a composite in and an SVIDEO in. There is also the soundbar available, although they aren't all that great. (the only advantage is that it mounts to the monitor).

The Gateway runs about 450USD, whereas the 2405FPW will give you an extra 3 inches, media reader, a little slower (12ms as opposed to 8ms) and run another couple hundred dollars more.

It IS f***ing gorgeous though. biggrin

I've not seen the 2407 in action.

I love the thumbnail views and shortcut keys available in IE7.

Oh, and I hated firefox. The open-source nature of their plugins gives the app a HUGE YMMV tag with it. It almost needs a distro package with specific plugins selected (that ACTUALLY WORK with the version you're running). The vanilla Firefox doesn't impress me at all.

Also, Firefox has the same issues with vulnerabilities as IE so that doesn't wash. As of right now it's more secure (according to but give it a month, and you'll have to turn off your java enabled flag.  disgust

My only concern with IE7 is compatibility with apps. I was IE7b2 before and some apps (like were hooped.

With DR, I understand the easiest ways to get multiple saves for a single game is to buy the memory card.  Profiles only work to allow mutliple people to play DR on the same 360, not for a single game having multiple saves.

Silver gets you almost everything except mp- the only exceptions I can think of are sometimes MS puts up Gold exclusive videos during their Bringing it Home events (which are pretty crappy to begin with IMO).

actually, I recall reading somewhere that some games do store different save games based on profiles.
Can't confirm it though. Does anyone have concrete evidence one way or the other ? (t'would be nice to know).

I'm not here piling up hate or judging you. I feel your pain, but sympathy is a condescending emotion. Empathy is much better; some understanding and support is much more valuable than "poor you" mentality or "fuck you" closed-mindedness.

Honestly, I can't believe that people who contribute 15 posts to this forum have the gonads to blast someone they "know" from GG's past who stands at over 2800 posts on GT. I'm not saying you're _not_ welcome here, but you really aren't on even footing with the GT'ers who actually contribute to this community on a daily or even weekly basis. It truly boggles.

As to keeping his hardware up-to-date, a Ti4200 is less than 3 trips to McDonalds, last I checked. I figure that if you can't entertain your mind, then you're sunk. I second the library thing; find a genre you enjoy. The paypal thing, you got your pee-pee whacked for it, and now you know. If I had any hardware that could help, I'd gladly ship it free of charge. PM me with your system specs, I'll see if I can help.

Kidney stones: I had a couple back when I was 24 (6 years ago). They were smaller than a tooth filling. I thought I was going to fucking die. It's a whole new world of pain with that, and I had it easy.

As to what you CAN do Daehawk: I would suggest trying out an ebay pawnshop. You have computer skills, and using shipping you should be set to be able to accomodate your schedule.
There are a ton of old people who want to sell off stuff, and this would be a way for you to do that for them. You take a percentage, and you're set.

You could also try getting into medical transcription, where you can type on your own and still be able to work using the resources you have available.

You could even hit up tech documents online and get some computer education behind you. Take a study-at-home course; go learn about MS products and test yourself on trancender tests and go challenge a few certs. Do something that works as an "on-your-own" thing. You need to push yourself in the right direction, and that direction is knowledge in a feasible field. As far as medical concerns go, if you get yourself a job with benefits, then the risks you take now are justified. If you can get the state to help with education, you're on the right path.

You know what? It IS a great game.

The single player game's biggest fault is that it is uninteresting. Like reading a medical journal about nasal hair or something.
Mechassault2's SP campaign was WORSE than Chromehounds, IMHO.

If you like Robotech-like detail in a mech game, there is NOTHING better than Chromehounds on anything Xbox. Also, FFXI is VERY dependant on you linkshell (guild) and you and LP wouldn't always be playing at the same time so you'd end up with the "catch-up" syndrome. Mikagami and I played like that for about a year. Not fun.

I'd be willing to sell my chromehounds if you wanted to get it (i've completed the SP portion; I don't want to get sucked into MP again). Send me a PM.

I plugged the component cables into the tv, then fed them down to my new 360.  I switched the selector to HDTV and hooked in my optical cable.  This leads to my first complaint.

This part confuses me:  I thought component and optical were 2 seperated deals.  Can you use both at the same time or is it redundant to do it like that?  Which one works better?

they are, but the 360 will send an SD signal down the component cables until you flick the switch. Two good reasons I can think of:

1) In case you have an EDTV, as component cables offer a clearer signal over composite and s-video
2) If you were sending a 720p or 1080i signal to a set that doesn't support it, you'd have to switch cables to be able to change it to the other HD method.

There's a nail in the door
And there's glass on the lawn
Tacks on the floor
And the TV is on
And I always sleep with my guns when you're gone

There's a blade by the bed
And a phone in my hand
A dog on the floor
And some cash on the nightstand
When I'm all alone the dreaming stops
And I just can't stand

What should I do I'm just a little baby
What if the lights go out
And maybe and then the wind just starts to moan
Outside the door he followed me home

So goodnight moon
I want the sun
If it's not here soon
I might be done
No it won?t be too soon 'til I say goodnight moon

There's a shark in the pool
And a witch in the tree
A crazy old neighbor and he's been watching me
And there's footsteps loud and strong coming down the hall
Something's under the bed
Now it's out in the hedge
There's a big black crow sitting on my window ledge
And I hear something scratching through the wall

What should I do I'm just a little baby
What if the lights go out
And maybe and then the wind just starts to moan
Outside the door he followed me home
So goodnight moon
I want the sun
If it's not here soon
I might be done
No it won't be too soon 'til I say goodnight moon
