No. A scourge is a punishment; it's not self-inflicted.

If people stopped eating there, they would not exist. Mikky-D's is self-inflicted by the populace.

Between KD and Warning, that was the "complete" answer I was looking for. The KGB thing was what I was worried about; I don't like over-moderation. I'm very happy to see that this isn't the case. smile I also have a warm-n-fuzzy that people are given consideration and that (at least some of us) are willing to tolerate beyond the letter of the law and see the spirit.

As to -LE-: the management are the ones to make that decision. I appreciated the fact that Ron was willing to listen to us in a situation where the community wanted him back, but I for one am not calling for a recount of the vote.

-LE- blew it; there isn't a damn thing anyone other than LE could have done about it. He should have been more moderate in his posts; and I'm not sure he's crying in his milk right now about this.

Now, who do we ban next? ATB? He's always dropping snide remarks.  icon_twisted

15250  Non-Gaming / Forum and Site Feedback / Re: Is Lord Ebonstone banned? on: December 08, 2006, 03:37:35 PM
Before you read this: consider that I am only stating my personal opinion. If you don't like this discussion, there are thousands of other threads for you to enjoy.

Suggesting that I care any more about one organized religion over would be a misnomer. I see the benefits of religion and most of them come out as family values and community. Point those people towards something, and it goes from "community" to "mob" in a heartbeat. For reference to my feelings on this, watch the Directors commentary on the Dogma Special Edition DVD to understand, from a first-hand account, of persecution by the "Conservative Christians".

Christianity is generally considered a conservative faith (it certainly isn't a hedonists first choice for faith  :slywink: ). Censorship in North America is largely held by Christianity, and right now we have an uproar on seeing a nipple and 3 different versions of gore-shows like CSI that have licence to print money on the TV ratings.

Saying "Conservative Christian" to me is like saying "religious zealot" poor choice of words ... more like "Christian extremist" or "Christian fundamentalist". Swap Israeli, Jew or Muslim into that and you start to see the picture I get. Zealot is technically the right term, but for news reference they tend to "soften it up" a bit when one of these whackos goes and suicide bombs, or keeps his wife and kids locked up and abuses them physically or mentally. This is a border-free comment, I am not singling any nation or religion in this comment. The scope is the width of humanity, right down to the darkest nether reaches of the radical religious soul.

Using the term Conservative in that context is parallel to the Russian regime who ran Germany prior to fall of the Berlin wall calling themselves "DDR - Deutsche Demokratishe Republik" ... translated to mean Republic of Democratic Germany.

I am not at ALL calling out anyone or any religion in this post; I am merely outlining that just because it says "christ" doesn't mean that he's talking about your own connection with god, or the community YOU subscribe to.

He's had his warnings, people don't want him here, whatever. If he's gone, he's gone. LE was the black sheep; I get that. He sometimes used cuss words and crossed lines. He got better at doing it, and he DID contribute to this board more than he crossed lines. He has crossed his last line here, and that's fine. I am not railing against a decision; I am concerned that we are following letter more than spirit is all.

I would like to applaud KD for allowing a frank discussion on the subject without having the thread locked down. That we have been able to discuss this and provide viewpoints without hollerin' and name-calling is a testament to the people here, and don't think that I for a minute hold that in less-than-noteworthy regard.

Oh, and I DID mean statute of limitation.  (see #5 on limitation) :slywink:

Hello Xbox bias anyone?  The PS2 is still oustandingly successful and that is simply chalked up to 'replacement for dead PS2's' ?  Judging by most of the complaints on these forums lately I'd have to say that it's the Xbox 360 that has inflated statistics due to breakdowns!  Perhaps it says a lot that people would rather replace their PS2 than buy an Xbox.

As for the PSP, I dunno it's doin ok.  Obviously Nintendo is kicking it's ass but it's not too far behind the PS2 and Xbox 360 in sales.

Cut the crap with this "Xbox bias" BS.  Hello PS2 bias?  Remember this?,14916.msg186034.html#msg186034

It seems you have an issue when someone prefers the Xbox to the PS2.  You're more guilty of bias than those you are calling out.

LOL Graham has that been burning up inside of you for the past four months?  I'm glad you were finally able to get it out of your system.

Unlikely. It's just that people tend to remember ridiculous claims... Graham was out of line with bringing up comments you'd written; it would have served him just as well to reply to your "Hello Bias" comment with a "Whoever smelled it, dealt it" retort.

Oh, wait, is that what just happened, except with finesse and even a reference point? Nice. Now, moving along. None of those numbers look bad. Even the PSP is doing well; just not as well as the DS. The DS has had a recent re-release so I'm thinking Nintendo plays that card well.

With regards to Gwar21; I gotta assume that Gwar is named after the band.  saywhat THAT would offend a Gwar fan?  paranoid icon_biggrin I'm not sure that would be my typical image of a "conservative Christian". To expose people to the context, Gwar is known to spray their live audiences with white foam from a giant phallus.

As to the "banned before" when is the last time you got a speeding ticket for being a little over the line? Have you gotten one since? Did they revoke your license based on it, permanently?

That's the point I was trying to make. If he got a warning last month, then burn him. If his last occurrence was over 6 months ago, I think there should be some statute of limitation or some consideration. I don't see that his comment needs to yank him from a board that I personally enjoy visiting so much. I am playing devil's advocate (although I doubt Devil would be trying to keep him here) as we should try to see all sides to the story. He can go off the deep end, but he's gotten a whole lot better about it. Was he truly making this place an unwelcome forum to visit?

Was it the "jingoistic" comment or are we hens just pecking at gravel? Was there something more intense that I'm not aware of? If you guys don't want to post it, that's fine. PM is OK too.  nod

Also, I am not evaluating Gwar21 as < -LE- based on history or post count. I just can't see how one flippant remark from a guy on the net would get to me, especially when you're taking a swing at him in the first place. LE dropped a troll post, and he replied to it. What did he expect would be the response? I am also not condoning the actions of LE in that one reply, but I am highlighting it as _one_ comment. If there isn't recent CoC violations, perma-ban seems harsh.
15261  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: Best Dynasty Warriors Game? on: December 08, 2006, 04:25:31 AM
To clarify : DW5:E on 360 is better than any other DW games on any other last-gen platform, for the performance alone.

It is still a port though. And the multiplayer aspects of it are weak. It is RISK + Dynasty Warriors, and you have to give it some time to start enjoying it.

Samurai Warriors 2 is a better game overall, as the Multiplayer has more options and they got rid of the horrid "indoors" levels. Indoors in SW1 ruined the game, in SW2 it is encorporated.

Both still look like ports, but the gameplay on DW5:E is MOTS with no change to combo systems. The weapons are refreshing (you get upgrades in battles to which you get to apply to weapons). If you're not sure about how much time I've spent in both games, check out my achievements. slywink

SW2 has you buying stuff in a store to unlock new skills. I had it rented for over a month and a half.

N3 has a better told story, but it is shorter. It has way better graphics, and if you get past mashing buttons and learn the combos you can string some devastating effects.
I had almost completed all achievements, but there are some that are WAY annoying (like Inffyy's secret level with a boss that makes RAMM look like a chump).

I've been Dynasty Warrior-ing it since the PS2 launch with DW2 in hand. (traded Armored Core 2 in for it since I found THAT game repetitive, HAH!)
Dunno what it is, but I can still go through these games and not even flinch at the repetitiveness.

Dynasty Warriors Empires is out for the 360. It gives you the DW hack an slashyness gameplay along with a touch of strategy game interface when it comes to deciding which nation you are attacking/defending.
That's about as updated as you're gonna get for the series.
Samurai Warriors has one out as well for the 360 in case you feel like swapping out China for some Japan.

X360 :

Samurai Warriors 2 > Dynasty Warriors 5: Empires > Ninety-Nine Nights.

N3 is enjoyable, but short. A week's rental at best.

And I can see and even agree with that point. I'm just not wanting to be the HR person assigned to replacing our surly curmugeon (Myto would be proud!). He ran off the worse evils in the world. He was our Megabyte. slywink

A poll could help clear this up, but frankly I don't even know if he WANTS back.

The only reason I have reservations about flushing and forgetting LE is that if that truly WAS the comment that got him banned, I don't know that he knew he stepped over the line. I certainly didn't read that post and think : "Ooo, heads are gonna roll, boys."

Ah well. If he's gone, he's gone. I'm not going to fight for him; I just didn't see THAT message as perma-ban material. If he dropped a bunch of unacceptable messages all over the place, but we're talking about freaking on a guy for one misstep (that I know of).

He could have crapped on King and Country in the sports section, I'd never know. Is this fueled by one offended reader or is this a group of fellas and gals who've just plain had enough?

He was temp banned (about a year and a half ago; IIRC). I'm not one for censorship so I don't feel like we have to muzzle peoples opinions. Someone like LE is very opinionated, and often dead wrong. Does that invalidate him as a member of the community? I think not. I've seen a vast improvement in his attitude over the past 2 years; he used to regularly cut people down.

He fell off the wagon once, and maybe didn't realize it. If he was banned last month, then a perma-ban is something I'd support wholeheartedly. I don't know if he was, so I'm not one to pass that judgement on.

I have no problems with him being banned. He made the comment(s) that offended.

That being said, I think the hammer of bannination was swung without him being given the opportunity to swallow some pride and at least state that hey, maybe that was over the line.

I think we can show a little tolerance to someone like -LE-; it's not like he's showing up and dropping stupid comments all over the place. He is a contributor to this site, and we take all flavors; even bitter ones.

I think that one comment came off for him as "clever" ... he likes recycling sentences that contain offensive material. We sometimes need to know when it truly isn't meant; he knows that there are conservative christians on the forum. If he truly thought that they all are, why would he bother with 3500+posts to a bunch of "fuck-wits"?

He may have pissed off a 100 lurkers with that comment, and that is a bad thing for the site. But I think it is worse to not allow him to express his intent or an apology for a breach of conduct.

If that line came from someone with no history, I would have expected a "WTF" series of messages and that person would have had the chance to retract. I expect no less for LE.

I'd yank the soundcard first; it doesn't test sound during a perf-tests, IIRC.
You could also run DXDIAG and run a full diag test from there. It doesn't always reveal problems, but it can't hurt.

As to RAM testing; if your system can address the memory in the speed test, then it's likely not a memory issue.
