2) With the animals in the house, it looks like they despawn after a while... A few did die, because I left the door open to my mine and they fell off the huge drop, but even after I closed the door, the animals inside disappeared...

Look in the Options menu. There should be a difficulty setting. There you can change it to a few different modes that effect the way enemies spawn. Peaceful mode will prevent baddies from spawning and will make all of the Nether enemies stop attacking you. If you need a break to do a mega-project, switch to peaceful mode. Of course, then you are a little girl for doing so, but who is judging? (me... silently)

Thanks, I'll look for this.. Don't know how it changed though. I think I had it on normal and they were spawning before I went on my mining expedition, but I'll check this anyway...

Anyone know why I can't find any mobs anymore... I spent "days" in my mine just mining loads of crap so I could outfit my guy with some decent weapons and armor, then I climbed back up to my house and I have days outside and wandering and other than some basic animals, I haven't seen anything.. I especially want some spiders so I can start farming some string and make some bows...... I would also like some creeps or ghasts to get my sulfur....
Is there anywhere you can think of that I could look? As an aside, I never saw anything while mining either, although somehow, I had animals get into my house even though it was closed up....

I have eighteen, not counting expansions.  They were all bought during the recent sales.  I haven't bought another game since, as I expected, because the prices are now ridiculous for the wrong reasons. slywink

Retail is still cheaper than digital distribution in general and Steam is certainly no exception.  In fact, Steam, Impulse and Gamersgate can't really be differentiated at all in the UK based on non-sale prices.  Therefore I would still give the edge to Impulse and GG because I don't have to ask them for permission to play my games.  Sorry, subscriptions...

In conclusion, then, Steam has absolutely found a place in my gaming life.  But it's no more than an alternative service.  Its one major plus is that its sales are amazing.  Impulse's sales would be funny if they weren't so insulting, not to mention the dreaded regional locks that plague its service.  Gamersgate's sales are actually very good and I like the loyalty rewards, however sadly they simply don't have the catalogue that Steam has.  Great support though.

I've gone from being outright hostile to Steam to "I'll use it if I have to or there's a fantastic sale on."  This is in some part due to some of my misconceptions being corrected in the other thread and from using the client myself.  I cannot, however, envisage a time when I'll be someone who doesn't even buy a game if it isn't on Steam.  Hell, I won't buy a game via the internet at all if I can get it at a reasonable price at retail.

Holiday sale is on. Prepare to empty your wallet!

I have had this happen to me and even after talking with the branch manager, they basically said there was nothing they could do.
Mine was a lot shorter time frame as well...
Went to bank, pulled cash, went to a fast food place to buy food, gave cash, THEY found out it was fake, went right back to bank.... all in the span of 20 minutes... They basically said the same thing... once you leave we have no way of knowing what you possibly did outside...
Called corporate and same story... They said it is my responsibility to leave before I check the teller area..... It was the bank where my job it's account so I had to stay with them for a while, but I took extra long checking every bill... pissed some people off, but I just kept telling customers the story and said tuff I am checking...

Just curious why you guys bother backing up.  You can redownload whatever game and even the larger ones only take maybe 2 hours at the most to download.  I am pretty sure I have the self-restraint to wait two hours.  And while I am playing whatever game I am interested in, I can then begin downloading the next one.  I guess if I had 200 games, it might be an issue, but I am never playing 200 games at the same time.  Maybe three at most, I guess.  I dunno, it just seems like a huge pain to back this up to discs when I could just redownload.
I have 292 games in the library. Backing up is useful when rebuilding my PC or copying games to a 2nd or 3rd PC. much faster than downloading and less hassle...
My only complaint with steam is that I would like to be able to batch install when I rebuild... something where I select all the games I want, then hit install and it starts doing it's magic.. Right now, you have to install individually, wait for the installer to go a certain distance, then finish and start the next install while the first one DL's... As you add more and more installs to your DL queue, it takes longer and longer to get to that next game..

you have to use disks.

3.5  only.

I don't think this is entirely accurate, you may not know, but a recent patch has enabled 5.25 and ZIP discs as well...., the problem is that this patch also broke backing up to tape drive.. frown I believe CD's are due 1st quarter 2011, but don't quote me on that...

the only thing I'm worried about is that they're going to skip a major event that should be coming up and would be a great cap for the season.

When you buy certain games and bundles on Steam, they can come with free games. Sometimes they are games you already own on Steam, so Steam let's you transfer ownership of that free "extra" game to someone else.

Also, I like the cloud. It is especially useful for running Steam on multiple computers and for re-installs...
Haven't had any problems yet.... I probably buy 90% from Steam now... Just like not having to look for discs.. Especially if I get an itch for an older game again.... Also, since most games aren't coming with decent manuals anymore, there is no incentive to buy a boxed one...

We learn from the father/son he meets upon going home that the radio stopped broadcasting about 3 weeks after the outbreak and later from his wife learn that they decided to head to Atlanta after he had been in the coma for about 3 weeks.  Figuring for some overlap and however long it's been since the radio went out we can guess he was in a coma for 4-6 weeks.

If that's indeed the case,
Spoiler for Hiden:
his wife had to have been cheating on him with his partner since before the shooting.  You don't go from losing your spouse to shacking up with someone else like that in that short period of time.

Spoiler for Hiden:
IIRC, in the comics, it is explained more like a heat of the moment/survival thing... Rick has been in a coma for a while prior to the outbreak... Then when it happens, they can't take him and head to Atlanta. They don't get to drive all the way to Atlanta, they have to work part of the way and are in survival mode... Rick's wife becomes closer to Shane, however, it is Shane that pushes the issue.. At some point during the travels they hook up as a human comfort type thing and they suspect that Rick is gone for good due to the condition of the world during their travels. (When they left Rick, they really thought it was going to be all OK and that the shelter would be fine... they had no idea how screwed up everything really was.) Shane has been into Rick's wife for a while however and sees this as his opportunity....

I don't know if each episode is 90 minutes or if that's just the pilot. You'd think that would be easy enough to find out, so far I haven't.  retard

Ratings were apparently pretty awesome for an AMC show -- 5 million viewers, which is bigger than the premiere for any of their other original shows. Hopefully that wasn't strictly a Hallloween-night viewing spasm, and the ratings will keep up.

*THE Q&A LINK BELOW HAS SPOILERS, if you didn't get around to watching your DVR or whatever*
EW has a Q&A with the comic book creator Robert Kirkman:
http://popwatch.ew.com/2010/11/01/walking-dead-amc-pilot-kirkman/
I'm snipping a few interesting points that don't go into plot points:
Quote
It was always a question as to how much of that they were going to show, and AMC has surprised us with everything that they’re allowing us to do. There was a plan at one point to shoot a lot of gore—which is what we did—but the original plan was to have re-edited versions of the episodes, that would go on DVD. But at this point, AMC hasn’t really made us pull anything.

They mentioned this in Comic Con... They were all real surprised at how much AMC has let them get away with.... Now they have to think of other things for the DVD special.. smile

I'd heard really good things about RUSE on podcasts, from people who liked the same kind of RTS games I do (Dawn of War 2).

Like above, the draconian DRM is the reason why I wasn't going to bother trying it, let alone buying it.

But yeah, RUSE isn't high profile enough for them to bother putting the DRM on it, especially with such controversy.

On the other hand, Brotherhood's focus on online play will really determine things.
The Draconian DRM they are using is the reason that I won't buy their games at all right now. I have skipped on a few games that I wanted.
For this, I am kind of torn...
On one hand, I don't feel like supporting the company at all...
On the other hand, I wonder if helping to support THIS game without the DRM, will help convince them to change their ways....
