The tanker was carrying mostly water along with breast milk.  Also they weren't hurting for resources like in Road Warrior, they've established a sustainable ecosystem between Gastown, the Bullet Farm, and the Citadel.  The Citadel provides food and water, while Gastown fuel, and the bullet farm weapons for defense from bandits.
I don't remember it being filled with milk, just water... they were on the way to gastown to trade it for gas.
It seems that there is plenty of gas and water, just not in the same place, hence the need for trade.

One could write a quasi-comical riff on only being allowed to kill zombies who were legally pronounced dead. The medical profession would have quite a quandary on its hands.  icon_biggrin
I would guess that this wouldn't too far off.. majorly damaged zombies would probably be ok, but minor damaged ones would be different... and would society last long enough to be able to safely capture and cure them in the first place.

Glad I could help!
But I really do think it is a good point. If we had never heard of zombies, we would never even think about how we really needed to handle it if an Outbreak happened. It would be treated as any other illness. Contain and treat.
Another thing that I have never seen a Zombie story do is what happens if it is a treatable, curable, and/or preventable illness? The Dead Rising games touch on this somewhat in that it is preventable, but what happens if it is somewhat curable? Will people then be able to kill zombies willy nilly?

TWD exists in some parallel universe where John Romero never made a movie, the word "zombie" is never uttered, and the very concept of reanimated dead seems to be completely novel. Nobody ever says "Holy shitsnacks, zombies!" because they lack any frame of reference. Apparently that gives the outbreak more time to spread than if they were arguing about which zombie lore is pertinent.
not sure if you were serious or not, but it is a good valid point and explains why an outbreak could expand quickly.. if you have never even heard of zombies, then it goes a step further towards what i said we would do, even knowing about zombies..
169  Non-Gaming / Off-Topic / Re: [TV] Fear the Walking Dead on: August 17, 2015, 09:09:17 PM
I don't know if anything has been been set in stone for any Zombie Outbreak, but I think it usually falls into 1 of 2 options.
1) The bite kills you and spreads the virus. If you die without getting bit (natural cause or lead poisoning), you stay dead.
2) The virus is in most/everyone by some method and all death results in re-animation. Bites and/or scratches from Zombies kill you due to infection of some sort. This seems like the Walking Dead style.

However, the WD style could be a combo of the 2.
Everyone is a reservoir of the re-animation virus. Once you die and it activates, this generates a 2nd stage or mutation, that creates the new deadly version of the virus which the bites transmit.

Of course the writers can change the rules to make it happen faster or slower however they'd like, but either way, I'm intrigued.

That is my biggest fear for this show. TWD sometimes does things that don't seem consistent with the backstory to me and it drives me nuts. If they throw out what we learned in the other show just to make it more interesting, I don't think I will watch.

Check me if I'm wrong, but didn't the change take longer in the early seasons of TWD? Maybe some time elapses before everyone is infected and turns within minutes of dying.
I think that you are correct and that the timing also depends on the person.. Every sickness reacts differently to people. There are also probably people that are immune as well.

Both Lee and Punisher's comments/questions are I think what can/will make the new show interesting.  I don't think it was ever officially established how long Rick was out in a coma.  Even though it didn't quite gel, I was under the impression that it was over a month, maybe a couple months?
I believe that Rick was in a coma for over a month...however I don't think that's what you are really asking.. smile
You are probably wondering how long Rick was left in a coma after being abandoned...
I would guess only a few days at most. His IV fluids wouldn't last that long, even if they hit him up with new bags right before leaving. but even then, it is conceivable that the LA outbreak starts about 2 weeks or so before Rick wakes up. Again, it would take time before we found out the real threat AND released the info to the public. I can't think of a situation where anyone with clout (media, politician, emergency services, or military) would want to come out and say Zombies... They would want to quadruple check their facts and that takes time...(Especially if this coincided with the Halloween season!)

I'm certainly in despite the awful title. I enjoy TWD but it will be nice to get away from rednecks in the wilderness.

The other big thing is it will be the opposite of TWD in the sense that there are a vast majority more humans than zombies, and in a much more densely packed environment.  How does that play out to get to the point where TWD is?  Does it happen in a period of days, weeks or months?  Or, for that matter, does it necessarily get equally bad in LA (to the point where essentially everyone is dead), because there's no way to know for sure.
I would say it breaks down very quickly. a week or 2 at most.. The primary reason for this is that realistically, Zombies do not exist. This means that nobody would be treating the Zombies as Zombies for a bit and would instead treat them as patients, so they would be intent on capture and treating, which as we know, is not a good idea.
Look at the bath salt guy a few years ago.. that was as close as we have come to something looking like a Zombie attack and the first reaction is to capture and treat. If it had been a Zombie outbreak, it would have quickly have escalated.
Nobody really expects a Zombie outbreak which is why it would multiply quickly if it ever did.

Sorry to hear that.
I had a similar disaster near to closing on my old house.
We were about 1 week out from closing and had already moved out. This was in the winter and we left the heat on about 65F.
I am at work and get a call from my realtor... PSEG were there for a meter reading and heard running water. When they went to the meter on the side of the house, they saw the running water coming out of the side entrance. They called the realtor who called me. I rushed home and found out that somehow a pipe had frozen on the 2nd flow and burst. I have an indoor rain forest on the first floor and basement and the basement already had about 1 foot of water in it. It must have been running for a while. So.. 1 week out and the 1st floor is totaled with water damage and the basement has water damage with all the electrical. It was unfinished, so that was a minor consolation.
Good news was that the insurance covered everything. What we did was postpone the closing only 1 week to get a confirmation letter from the insurance and then signed a legal document with our lawyers stating that they would get the money. This turned out good for them because they got to gut the first floor and replace everything and also do some remodeling.
So you may be able to do something similar for the damages and still close relatively soon.

I actually saw Pixels, took my nephew to see it (though arguably it was me who really wanted to watch) - not sure why the intense hate.  It was actually fairly enjoyable with your expectations in check.  Of course they started out with a strong appeal to someone more or less exactly my age who grew up playing in the arcade.  And there were some clever ideas and effects throughout the movie using arcade classics like Centipede, Donkey Kong, etc. mixed with a wannabe Ghostbusters kind of atmosphere.  Tyrion definitely seemed miscast or misplaced but Josh Gad made up for all the cast issues, really enjoyed him.

I wouldn't necessarily recommend seeing this at the theater, but I also don't get why it got so severely skewered.
My wife said the same thing when we came out. We both thought it was quite fun and entertaining.. I don't think it's getting any Oscars, but that's not why we went and saw it either. My son saw it over the weekend and he thought it was fun as well. Don't feel like we wasted our time or money.

While I haven't had any major issues with the game myself (Some minor slow downs at some points, but nothing I can't deal with), I am thinking about refunding my season pass. Mostly because of 2 reasons.
1) I don't know if the 6 months starts now since it gives you the costumes now. 6 months from now the new DLC may just be starting. They already postponed BatGirl DLC for the PC.
2) Even if it doesn't start now, who knows what will happen or even when the game will be released.

I am liking the game though. I am at 90% completion and only have the Riddler stuff left. This may be my first 100% completion game even!

Uh, yeah that changed in a big way just now. I don't know who all has completed the main storyline yet, but this is was my original prediction and who I think it still is:

Spoiler for Hiden:
Jason Todd
I think I'm a little behind you in completion, but that was my first thought as well, but I have been having doubts, because as you mentioned, the person hasn't been part of the series, so I am hoping the person isn't just crammed into the story line.

Pretty much this.  Absolutely epic.

The other thing that blew my mind was during the Episode 7 panel live broadcast, they brought out the fully functioning remote controlled BB-8 ball droid on the stage, proving that it was not a CGI creation but a working mechanical prop. I'm sure it works based on some complex magnetic system but it was a magical moment when it rolled out. I'm as jaded as any movie fan nowadays and that was an "oh wow" moment for me. JJ Abrams discussed the fact that they wanted to shoot as much of the movie as they could using practical sets and props. Sure the movie will have a ton of CG effects, but to Abrams, a lot of the magic of the original trilogy is that you felt like you were there because the world and the vehicles felt so real. Something the prequel trilogy really lacked in it's overuse of blue screen and CG everything. That aspect alone has me so excited and I have all the faith in the world that episode 7 is in very good hands.

Between Marvel and Lucasfilm, the Disney corporation has pretty much become the overlords of all of nerd-dom, and I don't even mind one bit!  icon_smile

Here's the BB-8 video.  So cool.
This was a definate highlight for me.. I had heard that it was a practical effect, but really thought that was a rumor... it almost seems like magic..
