MP is floaty, the controls unresponsive. Graphically it's pretty bad, as in back to AvP1 bad, as in AvP2 had better art direction on the Lithtech engine than this.
Are you sure that you didnt actually download AVP1? I thought that the graphics were pretty good.... I am disappointed that the thing was only MP, but I played for a little and it was pretty good... Aliens seem a little too powerful I think, but it was a quick game and I'll have to play some more... It was fun though....

And just one thing I don't understand -- if you're going to attempt to "limit" the number of open beta players by only letting them in via keys (rather than, anyone that can d/l the client gets in), then why do you give out more keys than you know your server can handle?
Same reason airlines overbook. The chances of EVERY person playing at once are slim if you limit to the exact number.. IE: Server can handle 1000 people, so they hand out only 1000 keys... What is the chance that all 1000 will play 24/7? Pretty slim..... They give extras so that the chance of taxing the server is more likely, like now.

Like they did with CO, they only wanted to sell so many lifetime subs.
This is fine, but they are doing it in a misleading way..... Like with CO, all ad's are saying time limited..... You have to go find the ONE ad that happens to have it in small print that says limited quantities.... They should just have it in big letters next to the time limit... "Limited Quantities available".. If they had done this with CO, there wouldnt have been a problem... BUT they didn't learn and are dfoing it the same way AGAIN with STO... They are NOT learning from their mistakes.... I would think that after the CO thing, this would have been foremost on their mind when offering these things....

Just in case anyone's trying to calculate if a Lifetime membership is worth it -- more data to toss into the caculation. STO lifetime subscriptions will be available after February 2nd, but the price is going up to $299 and some of the freebies (like the extra character slots are getting dropped).
Quote from: PR Wire
After February 2, 2010, [the $239 offer] expires and reverts to the standard lifetime pricing of $299.99.
Quote from: Cryptic Confirmation
Confirmed. You can purchase the lifetime sub after 2/1 for $299.99, but the special Liberated Borg and character slot offers expire on 2/1, as well.
I wonder if there will be another fiasco like with the CO lifetime.... I just checked something.... The email I received and the page it links to doesn't mention limited quantities, but another page linked from the first link says "While supplies last".... In REALLY small print in the fine print section..... You would think that they would learn from their mistakes and make it BIG..... Unless they dont intend to limit it......
Question, If the Sea Shepard can do all this without being held responsible, why cant the whaling ships do it back to them? Ramming, garbage flinging etc..... Also I'm not up on internioanl water laws, but what if they just shot at each other?
Quote from: drifter on January 08, 2010, 12:50:47 AM
Japanese whaling is done under the guise of research yet they sell whale meat in stores and kill 1200 whales. If you are actually doing research I dont think you need 1200 whales and you wouldnt be selling the products back home.
The Netherlands alone kills over 3000 rats for research/education.... Who will think of the rats?
My wife and I were really into this right until our Tivo died somewhere in S2 or S3...Can't remember. We missed a few episodes and couldnt catch up... We have been waiting for this final season to come so that we can just get the whole series and spend a weekend or 2 watching it... So I can't wait until the season is over so I can watch it....

I don't buy their oversized bridges excuse at all. Like I mentioned before, there have been games with real scale bridges before, such as Elite Force 1 & 2, and those had crew NPCs walking around inside. I'm assuming that you'll be able to invite as many people as you're able to have in an away team, including yourself. So, that would be, what, 5? That's hardly a crowd. There were more than 5 in the above games. Not to mention the deathmatches taking place on the bridges in those games.
I don't know if they mentioned the limit on people on the bridge, so it may be more than 5, but your reference to Elite and such has a problem. In those games, the programmers have direct control over the size of the characters... In STO, you might have people make a 7 foot tall character (or what ever the largest is) along with various other sizes... They are making the bridge large to help accommodate these variables.....

this is 1/2 of the reason why i tell people to lock down their wifi connection and not leave it open to anyone within range. the other half being child porn.
you have a damn hard fight to prove it wasn't you who downloaded the crap. meanwhile, you get the joy of spending your own money and time in court with no financial recourse if you win.
i'm surprised this didn't get abused earlier, actually.
I always say that if your neighbor connects to your network and does something illegal, the police go to your door. You now have to try to prove that you didn't do something and it is hard to prove a negative...
Also, for those of you that have used TrackIR. Has anyone used both version 4 and 5? I currently have V4 and need a new Pro clip thing, but have been thinking about going V5. Is it much better/worth it to upgrade?
Wow.. That's a lot to take in. Much different from my method of just taking off from the first runway I see, pick a direction to fly in, then land at the first airport or major road I see.
I'll have to take it slowly I guess.
Are there any FSX addons that would help a complete newb with learning all of this and making actual flight plans/directions, setting the radios, etc... easier to understand? Will I need Skyvector or some other program to actually get all of this info, or is it in FSX somewhere? I saw you mentioned a GPS thing, would this be a lot easier? Lastly, Could you make a PDF version of this for me to print out?
I've always been into MS Flight Sim, but mostly just to screw around. I just reinstalled the game and purchased those recommend graphics additions along with some others. I haven't actually loaded it yet, since I need to get a small joystick and I will probably replace my broken track ir as well.
If i wanted to learn the basics of navigation and radio communication and such, where would I start?

Also, if they are going to do the hybrid V storyline, doesn't the fact that there have been Vs among us for years- to the point of there being defections within their ranks- kind of kill it? I mean, isn't it likely that there have been hybrids already?
They could always go the route that they're so afraid of getting caught that they avoid any contact with humans. Add to that the fact that most V's probably wouldn't be physically attracted to humans and it's plausible that there wouldn't be any hybrids already.
Granted, I'm already making excuses for possible plot holes.
Except there is a least 1 V with a relationship....

i dont get these developers, ether do the game right or dont do it at all. Great idea poorly executed is not gonna fool anyone. Digital disributed games like this live and die by word of mouth, if this game was even decent I would put out 10 bucks, but not gonna bother now.
there's potential here, it's just hard to look past the warts.
I am finding the controls off as well as the camera system.... Definately some potential if they can fix it.... I like the idea at least...

Spoiler for Hiden:
When they found the air scrubbers borked and needed to repair them with ancient stuff..did anyone else wonder whats in the ancient crates on board the ship? I mean they sent this ship out ahead and planned to join it later. Surely they fully stocked the thing with everything they'd need to repair it with.
Spoiler for Hiden:
That's for the last show...they open everything up and find out that they contain everything they actually needed to get home and fix the ship, including two crates full of ZPM's, and that they didnt need to leave it to begin with.
We currently pay around $25/month to Banfield/PetSmart for their insurance and so far it has saved us more money over the past few years then we could have had if we had saved the $25.... We currently plan on keeping it...

woot! hit level 40, time to play my alts. First time after 10 years of mmos that I've hit the level cap. lol
Well I see you finally picked a char and passed me. It took yo long enough. I stalled at 31 ~9 days ago when quests seriously dried up and I wasn't interested in grinding... and then my wife had a baby and i haven't had a chance (or urge) to get back in.
What level has the baby gotten to? Has there been any grinding? What is the nature of the quests?
Well, obviously there was a lot of grinding to get the baby perk....

Thanks. I do run AVG and Adaware. This is my daughters laptop that got infected. She is suppose to be running Norton, but I guess now I should have put AVG on her machine when she was home for a week in August. I'll let you know how the drama plays out.
The reality is that no AV is perfect and they all run the risk of letting stuff through....
