I just processed an express RMA for the guitar last night and should have my box in about 2 days.....I'll let you know.
1202  Non-Gaming / Off-Topic / Re: Is TiVo worth it? on: November 29, 2007, 03:26:17 AM
We've had a Tivo for years and was recently going to cancel the one with the monthly subscription, but they agreed to let me do a lifetime one (They stopped offering these and I never realized it. This was the only bad thing about it.) and I signed up for it.

I also ended up building a Tivo like PC with a total of 4 Tuners in it. This works pretty well, but for some reason the signal doesn't come in as well as the Tivo.

Don't be so sure. The one I was at had at least 60 people in it and it looked like they would have some extras...especially if you get the PS3 version....

1) I just picked ours up.
2) The store I picked it up at was on the list, but then off the list towards the evening, but we called and they confirmed they were still on.
3) I believe that the bundles come with a powered USB hub already.

He has the wireless PS2 GH3.
We are buying the PS3 Rock Band bundle.
Will the wireless PS2 guitar work with the PS3 rock band?

Any idea why this is or if there is an update planned? My son just got GH3 for the PS2 and he was thought he could use the guitar for Rock Band, which he and his friend are trying to convince the wife and I to take them to get tonight at midnight.....

It took me 4 tries myself so hopefully the 4th try is the charm for you as well.  The good news is that if you plan to keep going up the Cisco ladder the tests seem to get easier after the CCNA.  I've started working on my CCVP and have passed 2 of the tests already on the first try.  I think the CCNA is so hard because the test itself is so broad, it covers a lot.  The mid-level tests go deeper but are more focused on 1 subject at least.

Good luck man!

Sadly, 4th time wasn't a charm for me.  I gave up all of this time, pushed off all of my work, and studied for 6 days straight and netted myself exactly 1 point more than I did last time.  I don't know what to do at this point...

That sucks. Is it really just this insanely hard? Now I'm worried about come summer, hehe. Do they allow you use of notes or anything or is it all just hard core memory knowlege?
My understanding is that the Cisco tests are the only ones that actually mean something in the real world. A+, MCP, MCSE's, don't really mean much. I've worked with people that had those and some of them I would trust to plug my PC in....

Yea I didn't get that either. The first few times I did a jutsu I didn't even realize about the meter. I finally get the stick combos down and then I have to get the meter timing down as well.... Then you have to do another button combo/timing thing to actually execute the jutsu, but at least there they let you decide what buttons to push.

Go hit the Games tab that's on the right side when you click the Start button. Some things (depending on random Acts of Gord apparently) show up there. Other games will appear when you click the All Programs button when you click on Start.

This helped me figure out my problem. I have my start menu set to classic mode. The games tab doesn't show up in classic mode, so my games weren't showing up either.

A lot of my programs don't seem to want to show up in the Vista start menu. No links to run or to uninstall or readme....

Anyone else have this issue?

I suspect it may be a UAC issue, but if I remember correctly, if you turn of UAC you lose all access to a temp folder or something. I know Acrobat reader 8 had this issue where if UAC was turned off it wouldn't install properly because it writes to a temp folder.

I really don't like UAC, but don't want to add to my problems.

1) It's free so I can't complain.
2) I havea PhysX card and could use another game that uses it.
3) I kind of like the idea of a game being annouced right before it's released. I also kinda wish that ALL games were like this as it would help to lessen my anxiety while waiting for the new games....

1231  Non-Gaming / Off-Topic / Re: Rights and responsibilities on: September 03, 2007, 02:56:30 PM
Reemul, part of the problem is that they are not technically stopping you for shoplifting, just their bagcheck policy...

Also as you mentioned, many people feel ok with it or they just don't want the hassle.

As for the large numbers not shopping there, it will never happen. It would have to be a massive undertaking where at least 60% of all the customers stop shopping for a couple of weeks. (Or a larger percentage stop shopping for a day or two.)
1232  Non-Gaming / Off-Topic / Re: Rights and responsibilities on: September 03, 2007, 12:42:13 PM
That was interesting. I don't know how accurate it is, but the person does state that bag checks are voluntary and you can refuse them.
1233  Non-Gaming / Off-Topic / Re: Rights and responsibilities on: September 03, 2007, 01:11:59 AM
Calvin and Blackadar have kinda hit it on the head.

If it is legal for the guy to walk out and not legal for the store to force a search, why should people be after the guy because he asserted his rights? Why should anyone have to put up with it because "everyone else does" or whatnot?

If it is within the guys rights to refuse to show a DL, why should people get upset when he refuses? (although I wouldn't say he is a jackbooted thug... I really don't expect every police officer to remember every law, not too mention it could be something that he was taught mistakenly. Mistakes do happen)

Yes both things could be seen as someone being a jackass, but it may also have just been about someone not wanting to give up his rights....

It seems that some people are blaming the victim here...

I think the problem is that most people assume they can go through your bags and nobody has thought to challenge this. I REALLY think this should be challenged in court, even with it leading to arrests of employees who stop and detain someone. Yeah that would really suck for the poor guy who just works there, but then he could sue his employer for forcing him to do something illegal, so it could work out for them anyway.

It has been challenged in court, at least on a per state basis. It is unlawful in Maryland, for instance.

Do you have any links to the case by any chance? I'd like to read up on it...
1235  Non-Gaming / Off-Topic / Re: Rights and responsibilities on: September 02, 2007, 04:32:02 PM
I don't always find it a small inconvenience. There have been plenty of times where they had lines at the door waiting to get out and quite a few times took several minutes to clear.

Also, just because "everyone knows" it happens, doesn't make it right. I truly believe that the small things can add up and eventually turn into bigger things.
What if every store adopted this policy? What if it turns into having to go through all your bags? Why not pat downs too? They don't take too much time...

As for the DL thing. Yes it's a minor inconvenience, but the guy didn't have to do it. Hey, it's a small thing for the police to do random ID checks or pat downs. It doesn't take too much of your time, so why not let them do that as well? If noone makes a stink about it, then it does become common practice.

Everything starts with the little steps. People can push and twist tiny bits and see what happens, then if enough people don't complain, they push more.

Now for the record, I am not anti-police or full of Illuminati conspiracy theories. I think that the police in general do a bang-up job and tend to get a bad rep from a few bad apples, but that doesn't mean that when things are done wrong we shouldn't speak out.

Also, I am one of those that don't believe that the vote with your dollars thing works. If a store is doing something wrong and you just decide never to go again, nothing changes. You are an individual that I guarantee the stores won't miss in the longrun. Noone who matters will even know you aren't there or that you were ever there to begin with.  In order for change to happen, things need to be publicized and groups of people need to act together.
1236  Non-Gaming / Off-Topic / Re: Rights and responsibilities on: September 02, 2007, 02:32:55 PM
He linked to the actual law and it looks like he actually DIDN'T have to produce his license..
Quote
2921.29 Failure to disclose personal information.
(A) No person who is in a public place shall refuse to disclose the personís name, address, or date of birth, when requested by a law enforcement officer who reasonably suspects either of the following:
(1) The person is committing, has committed, or is about to commit a criminal offense.
(2) The person witnessed any of the following:
(a) An offense of violence that would constitute a felony under the laws of this state;
(b) A felony offense that causes or results in, or creates a substantial risk of, serious physical harm to another person or to property;
(c) Any attempt or conspiracy to commit, or complicity in committing, any offense identified in division (A)(2)(a) or (b) of this section;
(d) Any conduct reasonably indicating that any offense identified in division (A)(2)(a) or (b) of this section or any attempt, conspiracy, or complicity described in division (A)(2)(c) of this section has been, is being, or is about to be committed.
(B) Whoever violates this section is guilty of failure to disclose oneís personal information, a misdemeanor of the fourth degree.
(C) Nothing in this section requires a person to answer any questions beyond that personís name, address, or date of birth. Nothing in this section authorizes a law enforcement officer to arrest a person for not providing any information beyond that personís name, address, or date of birth or for refusing to describe the offense observed.
(D) It is not a violation of this section to refuse to answer a question that would reveal a personís age or date of birth if age is an element of the crime that the person is suspected of committing.
Now if this is accurate, I think it may be a case of the cop either just not knowing, or being improperly trained, or the cop getting upset at a perceived challange to his authority. Or a combination of everything. I also think the guy should have pressed charges right then and asked for the employee and manager to be arrested as well.

I have always hated those bag check things. They really don't deter theft. All that will happen is that a thief will hide the merchandise somewhere else on them rather than the bag. Not to mention most of the time the bag checkers don't even look properly.
I think someone said that the stores have the right to check, but we have the right to refuse as well.
I also don't like how the guy ends up arrested after he calls the police. The CC people should have been arrested for unlawful detainment.

I would say to get that Dell above. That seems like a decent system. Then just keep the card it comes with and add the video card later. This way you still have a pretty modern PC for now.

Also, how do you feel about building your own? If you are ok with that, then you can piece together a good system.
