I'm having a hard time with the mission where you have yo kill veteran child everytime I throw the flashbang it only seems to stun him for about  3 seconds them hes right back behind shaundi again I can't seem to get a clean shot on him any hints?

This took a couple of tries, you just have to get a pattern going. Flash, run out, shoot, run to flash, repeat. It takes a little while. I also found that an assault rifle or the smg helps.

The Gothic Series, The Witcher Enhanced Edition, The first Fallout's.
If you're already bringing your gaming rig, why not bring a 360 and Get Fable II as well.....

Also, to extend time, make sure you do EVERY side mission for Oblivion and FO3..... smile

I am still confused about one thing. Some stores have back doors and safes, just like SR1, however I have yet to find a safe with an option to crack it. Is there some initiating mission that enables this, or are the safes just for show?

You can rob the safes, but only during store hours smile

Pull out a gun and hold it on the cashier, then keep holding it until they get to the safe and give you the money. I had it automatically hit me with 3 stars right afterwards, so be careful. You also don't seem to get a lot of money. I just dropped around 30k at a gun store and thought I would get it all back, no dice. Got around $500-$1000 I think.

So tempted to get a console but I have a xbox1/ps2 backlog to clear before I can justify a new one. I also like mods so that leans me more towards pc, but yet again the backlog raises its head and mocks me, though that one I am at least working on these days.

That's ok, get a 360 or PS3 anyway. They will play most of those backlogged games. Win/Win.

What it boils down to is this: Some people have real, actual problems getting DRM games to run, either now or in the future. And for what? DRM has no observable effect against piracy (and arguably even encourages it). What's the point in trying to defend DRM when there are only negatives and no positives, even if the negatives don't directly affect you?

You guys keep throwing crap out there like "DRM doesn't work, its useless".  Can you link to something by someone with actual industry experience/expertise that says that?  Because otherwise, I'm going to assume that the software industry is smart enough to do what is best for their product.

This is easy, just go look at any number or warez sites and see how quickly the copy protection is defeated. Sometimes on day 1 or before. It usually doesn't even slow down the pirates. The companies put in protection to keep people from pirating their games, but the pirates crack them right away anyhow. In general, the people looking to pirate software already know where to get it. It may have been different in the past, where you had to be "in the know" in some cases to get to pirated sites. Now they are all over.
Software with phyiscal dongles has been cracked
Software with online activation has been cracked
console and hand held games have been cracked

That is why DRM is useless. It's purpose is to prevent piracy and it doesn't. The days of the casual copier are over. There are probably VERY few of those people left.

If someone developed a new fire extinguisher, but it couldn't actually extinguish fires, I would call that useless too...

Amen.  I can't beleive people are freaking out over this.
Really?  It's quite simple.  It's because some of us do like to replay games years later.  And we don't like people taking a giant shit on our rights.
Holy hell.  Can you be more dramatic?  Your "rights"?  This is amazing, the imagined persecution you guys have worked up over this DRM stuff.

I look at it this way. I fired up Daggerfall on my laptop today. Yes, the old-school DOS based game that was released on 8/96 (I love DOSBox). If it was DRMed with what is out there today (server based activation, limited installs, etc etc), it wouldn't install and would have to be pirated to play.

That is my point. Some of us do like to install and fire up old games for some crazy reason. I own it, and damn it I want to be able to play it when I want to. Period.

I too replay older games after a while. Sometimes it's just to see what kind of performance I get on my new hardware. A game like Crysis or Far Cry 1/2 has loads of eye candy, that some people may not be able to appreciate with the equipment they currently have.

I'm in the camp of any copy protection annoys me. I play multiple games at a time (not simultaneously, but flip through several of them) I hate looking for discs. Also, even keycodes get annoying when I have to re-install months laters. I can usually find the discs and not the manual/box.

I WOULD feel different, if I truly thought that it was protecting the companies software, but lets be real. At least 95% of all software is cracked within the first week of release. Some of it is cracked before it is even publicly released to begin with. There isn't any copy protection that stops or even slows down the pirates. Yes copy protection can help against "casual" copying, but I would argue that, that accounts for a miniscule amount of actual people. For the most part, anyone into casual copying would very easily find the cracks for protected software.

Can anyone honestly say that they fully believe that copy protection has any real value?

even though it would make it more difficult for fast reviews and release date reviews etc. I kinda wish game companies would tell the media to bite it (sorry KD  icon_wink  ) and not give any reviewable code out until a game actually ships to retail. Yeah it might make reviews take longer, and no it won't stop piracy, but it would prevent ass hats from torrenting their stuff prior to release. And to be entirely honest people who buy on launch date would buy a game regardless of reviews, so I think it'd have a minimal impact of early sales.

This probably wouldn't be a big issue for electronic format reviews, but for print magazines it would those things aren't printed out way in advance. I "think" it takes about 2 months, which would mean that a review for a game would come out 2 months after the release, not good for them...

I have a $37 pre-order for L4D through Amazon, but I'd consider moving it to a Steam pre-order if I can't added the retail version to my existing account.

I don't have a retail copy of Orange Box but I did have a Collector's Edition of Half Life 2 and it added it to Steam just fine.

I have Dark Messiah that I bought at retail and that keycode added to Steam as well.

Hey, different strokes for different folks.  The info is out there so feel free to decide for yourself.  The negative ones always get the most play, it's just how these things work.  I wish they were always all positive, but that never seems to be the case.  If you're interested in a counterpoint, you can check out the 8-page long OXM review.  Long story short, I would say they would disagree.  More reviews will be coming down the pipe soon, no doubt.  You should have all the info you need to make an informed purchasing decision when the appointed time arrives smile

I would never discount anyone's opinions, but I should mention that the one linked above includes something I consider a major spoiler.  It's mentioned very casually so people will probably miss it, but I am seriously unhappy that it got out.  I know I open myself up for accusations that I don't want people to read it, but I just want to put that out there if you are considering playing and don't want to read spoilers.

For what little it's worth, personally I could not be more proud of this game.

Of course you have to like it and get us to buy it... How else will you afford your new solid gold humvee?

Yeah, it was a really, REALLY poorly kept secret, but Namco has finally confirmed that you'll be able to 'purchase' the other secret character in Soul Calibur IV:

Quote
Namco announced this morning that Yoda and Darth Vader will soon be offered as downloadable content for Soul Calibur IV on the consoles in which they didn't already appear. Yep, we all saw this one coming.

The content is scheduled to hit on October 23 and you can expect to pay $4.99 for Yoda on PS3 and 400 Microsoft Points ($5.00) for Vader on 360.

Let's reiterate: $5.00 for a new character. Is Namco asking too much? Admittedly, I'll be downloading Vader onto my 360 (strict orders from my girlfriend), but I'll do it with a grimace on my face and an icky taste in my mouth.

$5 for a single bit which flags your game has having the other character? Oh come now - everybody knows that the other secret character is on the disc already. You're just paying for that bit.

I know I won't be buying it (as I haven't really played SCIV much since I got it cheap via a forum member here). Howabout you?

Well, aren't you buying bits any time you download something.  Isn't that what these computer thingies trade in?

Also, let me explain a little something called economics.  There's this system called supply and demand.  Now, with bits, the supply is unlimited, basically, but the demand for these characters is probably worth about, oh, $5 to the average gamer.

nice to see the point go totally over your head. maybe you need a ladder? I don't have Sc4, so this doesn't affect me. what does affect me is this bullshit of shipping something on the disc and pay for it, again. This is no surprised as namco ALWAYS does this shit from what I hear. so basically everyone buying this paid 65 for the complete game. it's a complete ripoff to ship the data on a disc and then make you buy to unlock what you paid for already.

You don't own every bit of data on the DVD.  You own a license to the software.  Do you get upset at trial programs that won't unlock the full program until you pay the publisher for a key?  Even if you already downloaded the whole thing and the key merely flips a switch on the software that lets you access the latent features?!?  I hope not.  If you don't think the character is worth $5, don't buy it.  If you don't think the full game is worth $60 unless it comes with both Vader and Yoda, wait until it drops $5.

This isn't trial ware though, we've already paid for the game. It would be different if it was an actual download, but if the character was just locked out of the disc, that stinks. No buy for me.

So it took me forever to figure out that you aren't supposed to beat all those waves of troops (well let's say that you don't need to at least, you might get something for doing it.)   You can bend those huge grates in the middle of the room and drop down to the next part almost immediately, instead of trying to fight it out with those endless waves of Imperials.

Absolutely fantastic game.  I had amazingly high hopes for this one and it still delivered for me.  The art was absolutely fantastic.  The music made for the game was awesome.  Combat was superb.  Force powers blew my mind ad advertised.  I really felt like a force wrecking ball.  I think I may play through it on the PS3 now to soak in the (imo) better graphics.

The story was wonderful and neat to see the start of the Rebel Alliance like that.  This secret apprentice sure did wipe the floor with Vader and the Emp though.  I mean he kicks their ass big time.

I absolutely loved the set pieces.  Sarlac stomach....Death Star laser chamber....Executor being built.  I mean they reall pulled out all the stops.  It's a shame they killed him off (even though you know they had to) I wonder if they planned on doing another one with the girl who gets let go....?

Here's what I find odd.....

They claim that they put the crash bug in there on purpose for their pre-release version.
They claim that their duplication company leaked the disk they gave them, which I assume was to be duplicated.

Why would a game company duplicate a pre-release version in the first place?

I think the game was just buggy and they are trying to pull a "we meant to do that" in order to explain the crappy pc reviews for their buggy product...

This was actually explained in a thread on QT3.  Basically it's standard practice to to do a sort of test run of duplicating the game with the copy protection attached and then a QA pass on that.  As this is done about a month before the game goes gold, it is necessarilly a pre-release version of the game and, as such, likely to have bugs that the final duplicated product would not.

Basically,  the duping plant will produce a very, very limited run of pre-release copies that are intended to go back to Ubisoft for testing.  It was this version of the game that was stolen and released.

Well, that explains it then...I never realized that they did this..... So does anyone know which reviews were "official" and if they contained the same issues?

I have a system that I am reformating for someone. It has a Win XP Pro sticker on it. After I format the drive and install the OS, I get an activation warning immiediatly on first boot up. I cannot wait until later since the system won't let me login. If I try to activate over the net, it appears to work, but then logs me right out. Same thing if I do a phone activation. I even tried using the key on a different test pc and the same thing happens, so it looks like a problem with the key. I at first thought it might be a bogus key, but wouldn't the phone activation warn me instead of giving me an access code?
What also happened, was after I put in the phone access it said activated and logged me out and said I still needed to activate. When I tried to activate again, it said it was already activated and logged me out again...

Also, was getting wicked echo on my headset.

I was getting the same thing until I checked my audio settings for the headset. chenage it from the default of headset and speakers to headset only.

MP was fun last night, although I find it funny that the SECOND we spawned in free mode, someone starts shooting.... No discussion of option games or anything. I was hoping for a fun game of mall walkers or parade....

It was fun though, too fun, since I ended up delaying a report for work for over an hour.....better late than never...

the Sopranos had sex scenes all the time, BECAUSE it helps fill out the under world these people live in. Hookers. strip clubs are a very real plot device.  These people like Nico, dont go home and have a Beaver Cleaver lifestyle.

It is all a part of their world.  Again to say that sex is bad, but running people over for fun is OK is hypocritical.

but why do you feel the need to advocate virtual sex when it is handled in such a crass and immature manner?
how do you think it really happens in real life? how is it different and immature.  A john cruises, locates a hooker, drives to an out of the way place, discusses price, gets off, pay.  So how is this game different from real life.

FYi. I dont frequent hookers but I live in the city and its pretty obvious how this goes down.

So in real life would you hide around a corner and watch this happen?
not since my last arrest.....

damn price of gas has already changed my usual routine...

...killings are down in my neighborhood by 75 percent!

  Tongue
Drive-by bike killings may rise... AS I'M INVADING WITH MY RAT PATROL GANG!

Yeah, it was almost a joke.

Can't you PEOPLE BE SERIOUS??? I mean, come ON. Driveby shootings are down ... sheesh. Yeah, RIGHT.

It's not like the cost of bullets has gone up.

not to mention, people doing drivebys will just steal gas if it gets too high..
l
As for changing my driving habits, I have.... I drive a LOT more now...

I just got a promotion and have to go to 12 different locations throughout the week.

I drive either a:
92 sentra
01 sportage
05 H2
I do however get paid mileage and even if I drove the H2, would have enough to pay for the gas (although it would kill the extra for maintenance)
