Multiplayer Battletech 3025 was the closest I've been to my perfect game fwiw

Not DRM related, but I too am looking for the ultimate Battletech game.... Actually something similiar to what the DS series of games was supposed to be....

I want something where I can run around, jump in a mech, armor, or aerotech vehicle... dock with and pilot dropships and jumpships, board the same, and go anywhere in a large universe... smile

Then don't play it if you are in Australia [...] It's just not that big a deal.

Nice fucking attitude there, Lorini.  It's probably a huge deal if you're in Australia and had really been looking forward to the game.

(With apologies to Vizionblind; I did try and stay out of it, but everyone else is doing it (and my post has been very heavily toned-down from what I originally had slywink))

How the hell is $50 of your entertainment dollar a huge deal? I wish I had a life where $50 was a huge deal. Looking at health, family, work these types of things are huge deals. Waiting for Ubisoft to fix this (which they are doing) is not a huge deal. In fact, if $50 is a huge deal in your life, you need to save for something which really is a huge deal.

It must be nice to feel that you can randomly give away $50.... Can I send you my address?  icon_twisted(Not too mention, aren't games more expensive there?)

Jean Claude van Damme
Carl Weathers
Al Leong
Michael Biehn

Jesse Ventura can do a cameo with Billy Dee Williams.

oh lord, how could I forget Chuck Norris, Mr. T and Steven Segal?

This is planned already and is what the Mayans saw in the future for 2012...

Well i've just picked up Assasins Creed II for £10 in town in an Easter Sale. Such a big drop so quickly makes it seem that it hasn't sold at all well.

Problem is you don't know whether it means DRM the issue or the fact that it wouldn't have sold anyways and piracy would then have got the blame. Either way it's not likely we will see many more games like this full stop if they don't sell.

Well, since they have publicly said that the DRM works and this wasn't pirated properly, they can't use piracy as an issue anymore.....
Maybe they'll realize this and drop all DRM from their future games, this way if a game sucks, they can still have a piracy scapegoat!

Try updating Malware Bytes in regular mode. If you can't, then it is usually a symptom of the malware/virus...

Double check you proxy settings....
In Internet Explorer Goto: Tools, Internet Options, Connections, LAN settings. Make sure proxy is not checked and automatic is checked and retry Malware Bytes update.

Also: Either goto safe mode or get a boot cd and delete all temp folders.
Gotot each user in documents and settings or Users and look for local settings and delete temp and temp internet folders
goto root of C: and delete temp folder if there.
Goto windows folder and into the temp folder and delete all files.
you may get "in use" errors. if you do select the other files and delete again. repeat as needed.
also install, update, and run: Spybot and adaware.... Run all of the tools in safe mode first if possible. Rerun the gambit of tools. some that didnt work before may work now. Then run all in reg mode...

Very time intesive, but the best way to make sure....

I use Go2myPC express for remote access at times and I'll tell the customer to type into their address bar..... 90% of the time it takes them to there search provider because they put it in the wrong spot. I still have many people arguing with me when I tell them that they either typed it wrong or they are NOT putting it in the address bar. I sometimes feel that my head will explode.... Part of me wishes that we had a licensing system for PC use with various levels of allowance.....

1) If paid by credit card, do a charge back
2) Bring it back to a different BB and just tell them you're getting cd errors during install and you want to exchange it.
3) Call the DM back and tell him/her that Steam told you that it looks like the game was used and returned to the store before you bought it.

I'm not a tech guy by any means, but it seems to me that dedicated servers, infrastructure, bandwidth for constant monitoring, personnel, etc., would be far more expensive that what they would have lost from "casual" piracy.  Am I way off-base there?
It would depend on how much they attribute to piracy and IF that was the only reason for the DRM (preventing used sales is another reason)

Don't know how many servers they have, but if the servers are dedicated to the DRM let's say they are $1500-$2000 each.. Maybe they have 25? Thebandwidth for the monitoring would probably be minimal as would the personnel. They have montioried the existing issue for a day now, not sure if it's fixed or not yet, but that would indicate minimal personnel. Not too mention I doubt very much they hired anyone for this, they probably used existing admins... bandwidth for the verification is also probably not that much either..
Also, they could get away with chear/less servers than I mentioned...

I especially like seeing some of the people complaining who kept saying 'no problems here" while other people reported problems...
I hope they are down for a week....
I am really surprised that there are people surprised that this happened.

And apparently Ubisoft has gone into Damage Control mode:

You have probably seen rumors on the web that Assassinís Creed II and Silent Hunter 5 have been cracked. Please know that this rumor is false and while a pirated version may seem to be complete at start up, any gamer who downloads and plays a cracked version will find that their version is not complete.

Yeah, it doesn't have any of your bullshit DRM in it, that's what.

With that said, VE3D went on to say (which I haven't poked around enough to verify):

A spot of clarification: Silent Hunter V: Battle Of The Atlantic has been scene cracked; Assassin's Creed II has supposedly been cracked by someone over in Russia. Applying the scene crack to your legally purchased copy of Silent Hunter V will give you a complete game with none of the Cloud Copy Protection grief. The Russian Assassin's Creed II code floating about may be missing the digitally distributed DLC, which would give the publisher another reason to bandy about the 'incomplete' accusation.

And my bolded part still shows that Ubisoft's DRM has been completely and totally removed by the crackers in the very least.

Well, this means they cant turn around and say bad sales are because of piracy....
